Seraph's Two-Cents & RPing Tips For 90% Better RPing!
Hello and welcome to Seraph's Two-Cents & RPing Tips for 90% Better RPing!
I created this thread due to the lack of RPing experience I've noticed by looking around the guild. Perhaps it's not the case, but I've decided to waste my good sweet time in hopes of improving your posting lesson by lesson.
Why?
Because I adore each and every one of you... but the posts need to get better, otherwise I'll feel as if I've failed all of you.
The thread's content is completely off of my own hat, so do not take it without permission. I do not tolerate peopel 'borrowing' my things without warning.
If you'd care to share my knowledge with those around you, please PM me and request that you use this in your guild. But you must state the guild and give me credit somewhere along the line.
Thank you.
NOTE : DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD. CREW MAY POST.

Alright, so I have noticed that many people just post wherever they want, when they want. I apologize to say this, but... the world doesn't just work like that. You can't be in two places at once.
You must also tell others that you are ENTERING or EXITING a forum through OOC (Out of Character). OOC is to be placed in brackets such as (( )) or [[ ]]. Why? Because it's common courtesy, that's why. Would you like to try and RP with someone who left the thread but didn't warn you? That's tragic, isn't it? Then don't do it. Thank you.

-- * Addressing: A Fulfilling Post * --
Have you ever watched someone who posts nearly two to three paragraphs simply... well, leave you with little warning? Or maybe they just stop writing a lot?
"y3@ sur idy"
Then this is the post for you... because it's not that they're stuck up. It's because you aren't giving them enough to work with or they can't stand reading THAT texting crap that is today's most commonly used langauge (alright, I just made that up, but cut me some slack...). Those that have a tendancy to write a lot seek others that also write a lot or are at least literate.
A good RPer doesn't write one-liners. A good RPer writes as much as they can with what they are given and turn it into something fabulous! Giving someone else enough to work off of is probably the most fulfilling post that you can grant yourself and others around you.
-- EXAMPLES --
NOT TO DO: Minnie blushed and walked over to Mickey "I love you!"
TO DO: Minnie had been sitting on a bench and had been thinking all day and all night about how on earth she'd express her feelings for Mickey. As if by magic Mickey walked into the park, being tugged along happily by Pluto, and she couldn't help but wonder whether fate was finally smiling on her. When he stopped to let Pluto off the leash, she blushed and walked over to him and gazed up at him shyly, "Mickey?"
He looked over at her and couldn't help but note the twinkle in her eyes. "Hi, Minnie! Is there something you need?"
She kissed him on the cheek and said, "No, not anymore." Then, after she had gained control over her shaky legs, she ran off.

NOTE: PRETTY POSTS ARE WELCOMED BUT ARE NOT REQUIRED. PLEASE SKIP THIS POST IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BEAUTIFUL POSTS, ARE NOT WANTING TO MAKE THEM, OR JUST DON'T CARE WHAT I HAVE TO SAY.
Ah, a topic that I highly suggest that people check out if they are lost in the arts of coding or creativity. In all of my RPing days, I've never had been too addicted to pretty posts until I reached Gaiaonline and they gave use the toolbar above (the colors/sizes/ect.)! It made my life so much easier when it came to coding.
Varying in sizes and colors is always attractive to the eye, but there are several tips that I must tell you before you go making a fancy one: - Bright/light colors are not pleasant in the least. They hurt the eyes and will annoy your fellow RPers. - When varying in sizes, make sure that your character's name is bigger than the rest of the other fonts, but not so large that it's all you see. - Make sure that your actual post is the main focus of the post, so don't get too carried away with pictures, lyrics, icons, ect. - That the picture of your character (if any) isn't like Godzilla in comparison to everything else.
Other Tips: - "Talking should be bolded." - - Thoughts should be italicized. - - Books, movies, inns, or proper nouns that are not people, animals, or the like should be underlined. -

-- * Addressing: An Extensive Vocabulary & Spelling * --
Now that everyone has realized what a grammar nazi I am, I would like to post up another lesson in hopes of improving your RPing!
This lesson: extending your vocabulary and improving spelling!
Now, we all know that having a large vocabulary is based on how much you read (published works, NOT fanfictions or other things that are posted up on the Web). It's not solely based around that, but reading has got a lot to do with it. In order to improve your vocabulary, I highly suggest expanding your reading horizons. What? Try reading different catagories of books. Such as if you read a lot of sci-fi, try reading some realistic fiction or maybe even some good ol' non-fiction. *gasp* Also, there are plenty of thesauruses on both the Web and on your computer. smile They are quite useful when trying to use words that mean the same thing, but are completely unique from your everyday words.
To improve your spelling, all it takes is a little thing called MicrosoftWord, or whatever other word processor that your computer has. Some browsers automatically have spellchecks, which come in handy. For those of you, like me, that type really fast and make a lot of typos, I find that to be alright. I understand that mixing up a word or two doesn't mean that you're dyslexic.

-- * Addressing: Midnight Munchies * --
"Midnight munchies...?" "What the heck is she talking about?" "Seraph, are you a sleep-eater?"
As a matter of fact, I meant exactly what I said above. I call posting at midnight or later times in the night (or earlier in the morning, whichever you prefer) 'the midnight munchies'. It's that urge that you feel when you believe that you have to keep RPing with someone though it's a school night and you need sleep in order to get through the next day.
Late night posts are not only some of the worst posts I've ever written or seen, but they are often confusing and people have a tendancy to get lazy and not read your posts fully. This means that you could miss something as extraordinary as a peck on the cheek or even a knife in your back.
Here's my three tips on fighting off this case of 'midnight munchies':
1. Find times earlier in the day to post and save your evenings to complete homework or ect.
2. If you know someone that gets on in the later hours and you are RPing with them, try to set up other times that could work for you.
3. Make weekends your priority times to post. So, save the posting sprees for the weekends, when you may have more time and less school or work to deal with on top of everything else.

-- * Addressing: Expanding Your Horizons * --
Welcome back to another episode of Seraph's comedic how-to's! Today's lesson: Expanding your horizons.
Now, we all know that feeling of comfort when RPing around people that you have previously RPed with and can do virtually anything together without fault or fiction.
But what makes a good RPer a good RPer?
The ability to take on any type of RP or any type of RPer (yes, people have their types, so don't get all jittery on me now) is one that is desirable and is easily developed fi you put the effort into spending time outside of your comfort zone. This means that you should not only try different forms of RPing or different genres, but you should also try to make contact with other RPers that you have never had contact with before. Not only will you make more friends, ut you will also be exposed to different types of RPing styles and you, too, could improve your RPing skills by quite a few levels.
Whoot! Go leveling up!
