The pains had started a little while ago, and instinct had driven her away from the rest of the pride. Near them she was protected, but the adolescent stole away to a small den, not wanting to be where any others could see her. Her cubs were coming, and darned if she'd be where anything might get at them. Rehani lay on her side, stretched out when the first of the really bad pain started.

[Time Skip!]

Three of them. Her green eyes scanned the varying colored bodies of the three newest Pridelanders. They were all still rather dark, but she could tell. As she looked over them, pride and love sent her heart fluttering. Cubs!

Light!

Oh, it was so dreadfully bright out, so cold, and for one of the rare times in this young cub's life he'd admit that he was scared. The little red-eyed male was frightened. The light it was blinding. It was cold, and he squawked out his complaints.

Little legs tried to move themselves, but all he managed to do was move his body less than an inch with each push. It taxed his strength, it weakened him, but he had the sense that he had to move. There was a warm body in front of him, and that warmth he wanted. Closer he inched to it, and the warmth began to wash over him, envelope in him a safe haven.

Mother.

This was what this warmth was. It was his mother, and his nose touched her fur, taking in the familiar scent. This was his mother, so sweet, so warm, and such a comforting presence in this world that he was unused to. His mouth searched, looking for food. It came in contact with warm skin, and he clamped down on it eagerly, taking the much needed milk from his mother and into himself.

Not so bad. His mind seemed to say, agreeing that he could learn to like this new world.

Wait, what was this! Where was she? Something was wrong here. Where were her friends whom she spent the first months of being alive with! Feeling a nudge from a greater force, the small newborn seemed to calm down greatly. Slowly, she was forced to where he older brother was suckling, only to be joined by the other wombmate in a few minutes.

It was warm here! Not that it wasn't warm inside the body. Baridi squealed, blindly pawing at her mother's stomach with small claws extended. Food had to be around here somewhere, right?! She squeaked, finding the gracious milk and suckling it greedily. Precious, precious milk!

--

Denahi panted as the firekin border was passed. They were getting suspicious! This wasn't good. He crouched low to the ground, loping quickly to get away from the sand lands and into the pridelands. He wanted to see his precious Rehani!

With darts to the left, and a few pivots to the right, a sound of something in pain caught his attention. Soon, those groans were cut short and small squeals took their place. Could it be...?

Racing to the north, he raised his maw into the air, spotting the den a few feet infront of him. Coughing nervously, he called out to her. ".R..Rehani?"

Being born was not to be his happiest moment in time, as he mewled angrily. He had gone from warm to cold in a short amount of time. That was, of course, not to say that he hadn't been somewhat pleased by the warm tongue that soon rid him of most the stuff he and the others had been since life had come.

The other source of warmth that was their mother called to him, causing the cub to first get close before he felt something sticking out. He bit on it, sucking to free his milk from its imprisonment. Baakir continued to drink hungrily, curling up close to mom.

Thankful that her only daughter's claws were only a small prickling, Rehani watched as, one by one, they all started getting food. No death lingered here, unlike her own birthing. As she scanned them yet again, her gaze lingered on the golden cub. If it weren't for the brown mark, she supposed he could have passed as Kami's twin. Then again, she knew not yet what the color of their eyes were. They could take after hers or Denahi's, for all she knew right now.

Denahi's voice reached her ears, and her first instinct was to growl. Once it registered who the voice belonged to, the thought crashed and sank beneath a wave of others. "Denahi," she called softly, "come here."

He didn't like this. There was a body beside him, and it was near the source of warmth. The warmth was his! Mother was his! The cub whined, squawked, trying to nudge at his sister. Mother was his, he had her first. At least he thought so. The little cub was sure that he had been the first to encounter her warmth, her life-giving milk.

She spoke! Oh, he must've been the first to hear her too! Her voice was purely angelic, a gift from the goddesses. This was the voice of his mother, and whoever she was speaking to he hoped it was himself. He wanted her attention. He wanted her to love him, to willingly give him her warmth and everything else that was so precious to him.

He squawked.

Attention, it meant. He wanted attention.

Denahi's ears perked, hearing the soft call over the loud mews. "Oh..Rehani.." He breathed out, his heart dropping slightly. No other was around...that meant he had left her alone to bear the pain on her own. He sighed, nuzzling into her as his eyes scanned the little cubs. Each bearing markings of him and her. Some were even from Asi and Mufasa!

"They're....They're..." He was at a lost of words. "They're beautiful..." He said, lowering himself on the otherside of her, where the three nursing cubs lied.

She growled lightly as the younger male squawked and squealed, nipping at Rehani's stomach to get more food. Once she had her fill, she curled up quietly next to her mother, mewing softly as she fell asleep with a full belly. A cub could only do so much in one day.

Rehani watched as Denahi entered, smiling warmly. As he nuzzled her, the youngest cub seemed to want something. She nodded in confirmation to his statement, turning her gaze towards their last cub. "I named them when they were born... I didn't know you'd be here or I would have waited. Baakir, Baridi'akali, and Ezeoha." She said, nodding towards each one when she said their names. "If that sounds good enough to you." The female said, turning her gaze back to Denahi.

Any more and he would pop, honestly. Baakir's head drew away from food as his little brother started making noises. The tan cub turned his head towards the sound, before another voice broke in that he hadn't heard before. This one was deeper than mother's, and excited he became to hear it. It was his turn to make a noise for attention.

Someone else was here, and near his mother! The little cub seemed to try and growl, tossing his head to the left where Denahi's voice had entered his ears. It was evident who the squawking was at, Denahi. How dare he get so near to mom!

His stomach was full now, but he was in no way as calm as the rest of his siblings. Bari was fast asleep and Baakir was immitating him and squawking. Ezeoha could squawk louder, though! So, the cub did, squawking for attention. He wanted it, needed it, whether from mother or this new voice.

"Warrrwwrr!"

The noise came out demented, as if struggling to push through his lips. His mouth, he was so unused to moving it. He was tiring, but pushing sleep away he continued his squawking. Ezeoha would not bow down to the sleepiness yet!

He loped through the tall, golden grasses with practiced ease and a sense of knowing where he was going. His lanky body had an odd gracefulness about it as he took each careful, slow step. Home made him feel awkward, now. But he'd been here a couple of days, his mind was on the verge of panicing. He was supposed to be back there. Exactly two days ago, in fact. He wasn't even supposed to leave those lands. It was just proving Syeira right, something he hated doing. But since getting here he'd been putting off going back, making silly excuses to himself.

Maybe even his twin would show up. He missed some form of companionship that Kiuma had brought him, a more friendly kind than any one else had shown him. Besides maybe mother or Kib. But Kib was long gone from these lands and he could not bring himself to see mother.

He could smell Rehani on the light breeze, though her scent was very strange. And strange still was that he was getting hints of Denahi's scent as well. His frown increased as he headed toward their little family's direction. A bad move.

His sky blue eyes glanced over each and every cub as they were introduced. "That one," He pointed to Baridi, "looks like my father. And that one," at this his paw motioned towards Baakir, "Looks like you." However, the little golden cub was a mystery to him. Perhaps on her side of the family, yes?

"They're perfect names. I'm so sorry I wasn't here with you," He said to her, ears drooping down lightly as he gazed towards Ezeoha. He couldn't help but chuckle as he nudged the golden male lightly. "Fiesty one, isn't he?" He grinned, but frowned as another scent lingered in the air.

Growling lightly, he moved in front of Rehani. /He/ was coming.

A louder voice had begun to drown him out, and he didn't like it. Stop! He wanted attention, too! The tan cub gave a puny growl, backing up next to his mother. Fine, he could have the deeper voice. He had milk and warmth! He rubbed his head in the fur, giving a small purr-like noise before curling up and following his sister into sleep.

At the mention of his father, she wondered if the cubs would ever see their grandfather from Denahi's side. "It's fine. I'm happy you came." There was no one else anywhere she'd rather be spending right now with. She smiled, nodding. "He is, apparently." However, there was soon something. Denahi moved in front of her. Protecting her? From what? A growl rumbled in her chest. If anything was coming to threaten her cubs...

Something warm nudged against his body, and the voice of the other he did not know echoed in his ears. Sluggishly his paws reached out, trying to grab at Denahi's face. But, he was too slow, and they fell back to his side and he cried out weakly in frustration. This new person... He wanted to know them as he knew mommy!

Then there was a sound he didn't find so nice and welcoming. A growl, once more ferocious than one he could ever produce. It was frightening, and he shivered, trying to crawl back to mommy but found the distance too far. So, who did he crawl to? He crawled right to Denahi, rubbing his small body against his father's leg, crying out softly in confusion for the sudden tensity in the air.

Shut eyes could see nothing, but, somehow he knew something wasn't alright. No, something was far from alright.

"Rewwerr!"

Attention, comfort, he needed these things, and now!

His ears pressed back against his skull as he came ever closer toward the small family, of which Uumikaji did not know of. The den was coming into view and he slowed his steps further. His crimson eyes narrowed lightly. "Rehani?" He called out, unsure. As much as he didn't like spending time with siblings his curiousity got the better of him. Rehani's smell mixed with Denahis? That was very intriguing.

Uumi might even get a laugh out of Denahi being such a hypocrite. Well, hardly likely. But it is still amusing.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 24, 2006 6:10 pm

Denahi's maw formed into a snarl as he heard Uumikaji's voice. Why the hell was he here?! Shouldn't he be off with his sister down in the Kusini lands? He growling ceased as Ezeoha rubbed against him. Violence infront of kids were bad, even if they couldn't see . They could still here, could they now? Lowering his head, he grabbed Ez by the scruff of his neck, bring him back over to Rehani before focusing his attention back on teh cave entrance. That's it Uumi, come into this den and see what happens.

Rehani watched her son, feeling sorry for him. He shouldn't have to worry yet. At the sound of her brother's voice, her eyes widened. he had his own son down in Denahi's old lands, why was he up here? "Uumi." She said, a growl still in her voice. It was not, by any means, the same voice she'd treated Denahi with earlier. "What do you want?" She asked, her eyes moving as Denahi put their cub next to her. She curled her tail up, trying to block Eze's path should he try to go back to his father. "Ezeoha," she whispered to him, though her brother was outside and she did not want him inside. She continued to whisper his name, trying to keep his attention.
