(I don't know if there's already a thread for this sweatdrop )
What type of food are you making right now? What will you be making? What's your favorite thing to make? Favorite spices?
Lets geek out over food and share recipes!

I've been baking like CRAZY lately.
I've made this cake twice in two weeks: http://joythebaker.com/2009/07/vegan-chocolate-avocado-cake/
It is SO GOOD. Especially for being a completely vegan recipe. I used a different avocado frosting, though.
Today, I'm making ice cream with an ice cream maker for the first time. I'm not sure what flavor yet. I'm thinking apple pie or avocado....(I've been all about avocados lately)
I also might make tiramisu today.

I actually got a pink bakeware set from a P&G promotion today, so this weekend I'll be baking something from the new cookbook I got a few days ago. I don't do too much adventurous cooking, but I love when I have the ability to try it. Local cookbooks, I find, have some crazy ideas in them that you might have never thought about, but turn into fantastic meals.
Tonight was tilapia and crab cakes with mixed fruit on the side. My significant other had control of the kitchen. >.>

There is a thread for sharing recipes already but this seems a bit more general. Maybe share recipes in the recipe thread and keep this to more general food discussion. As always, Josh will have the final say. I don't bake terribly often but I do enjoy cooking. I like to use a lot of different seasoning blends, all of them salt free. I don't care for salt much so I like to have a lot of control over how much is used. Some of my favorite blends are Herbs de Provence (I really like the lavender in it) and Chinese Five Spice. I also really enjoy anise seed, it goes well in pizza and spaghetti sauces. @ Hella Uncool- Avocado ice cream? I've never heard of that, is it any good? Cardamom ice cream is pretty good if you can find cardamom pods. @ Sinful Nana- Local cookbooks are great. My grandma had one that had a zucchini crisp recipe in it that tasted so similar to apple crisp that if you didn't know it wasn't apples you couldn't really tell.

Yes, this thread serves a different enough purpose that it is certainly distinct and different. As I don't bake or cook, I will have little to add, personally. I have more often put Sculpy in my oven than food.

I haven't even touched the cookbooks my fiance got from a friend at work. I have so many recipes I've bookmarked online already.

hella uncool Sweet deal! I get most of my bakeware from goodwill. I got an excellent bundt pan for a dollar the other day. I haven't even touched the cookbooks my fiance got from a friend at work. I have so many recipes I've bookmarked online already. Most of my actual cookware was given to me when I moved here. The transfer from one area to another had the family freaking out that I had no pots and pans. When married, I got a lot of cookwear as well. Bundt pans are awesome. I got this set of green marble coasters from Goodwill years ago, and these things will probably hold up forever. The only breakage they will see is causing one to my foot when it drops.

Now I know biggrin I use salt in small amounts when I cook. Just enough to enhance all the other flavors. I generally don't use spice mixes. I have a gazillion bottles of spices so I just kinda rummage through them and pick out what I think will work. I like five spice in small amounts, but I hate star anise D: Anything that tastes or smells like licorice makes my stomach regress up my spine. I ended up not having enough avocados for any of the ice cream recipes I found, so I ended up making cinnamon ice cream. It tastes like the delicious milk left over after eating a bowl of cinnamon cereal ^___^ I think I'll add a bit of honey next time.

I just can't afford to by whole bottles of all of the components in them. I wish I could though so that I could fine tune them to my tastes. I actually don't like licorice either but I do like the anise in small amounts. Not enough to make it taste like licorice though. That's too bad, cinnamon ice cream sounds pretty good too though.
