There wasn't enough room in the underground barracks. Everywhere Aria went she could feel the press of both the hunters and the walls alike, the constant buzz of noise prompting her to shift from room to room in a futile effort to escape. She became a frequent visitor of Killzone's meditation room for a bit until the windy chords of Enya's vocals weren't enough to soothe the rough noise that hedged in on her.
She needed to think. No, not that she realized. A mental prod yielded a sharp disapproval that cut through the intangible white noise. Her weapon was still there; and she still wasn't speaking. Aria couldn't talk to her. Besides, what would her weapon even say? Aria couldn't help but to shake her head as she moved through the tunnels, making her way through them and up to the surface. Symphony had a rather... unique view and opinion on Aria's choices. She would be no help.
Lance? Aria shoved that thought aside quickly, concentrating on -- wait! The division leader reached out and took hold of Candace's arm, pulling the trainee along with her. "Good timing! This way, we're going to help clear out the dorms a bit. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of this place." Aria didn't let go of the trainee's sleeve, babbling as she dragged her along. "I mean, it's nice that we have these here. Otherwise we'd be pretty S.O.L., right? But these caverns are pretty... Cramped? Enclosed? No. Noisy. How have you been managing? I haven't been able to find a quiet place. It's so..." Aria shook her head, letting go of the trainee's sleeve as they reached the dorms. "I just. I can't wait until we get these cleared out and can move back. You?"

Candace felt she'd spent enough time up on the surface for the day. Meaning she'd spent none. Yes, none. She was eating, damnit. She didn't need to go up there and be reminded that she was terrible at killing things, especially on her own. She would ask Harrison but he seemed to be..busy.
Busy with boys.
She wanted to be busy with boys too. She tried not to let the jealousy show, not even sure why she even had to have this problem. Candace was happy for Harrison; she wanted him to find someone, and from the looks of it he had Jordan. She was glad. Why did she feel..jealous? Every time she thought about it the voices returned, filling her head with hisses and whispers that made her wish she could just shove her head under a pillow and drown it all out. Atropos was doing her best to drown out the voices, but she could only do so much. Candace appreciated the effort, though.
She had been distracting herself with a disappointing MRE when an arm suddenly grabbed her. Candace's eyes widened and she nearly choked on her food when she turned to see who the hell was grabbing her and why had she not cut their arm off yet let go let go let go she'll kill you she'll ********! "Aria!" Candace was very happy to see her leader was doing well. Impatient, very chatty but well. It was very different from the usual Aria she knew. She flailed for her food until it was out of reach and gave up, pouting like someone who just lost something they had been looking forward to all day. All damn day, Aria!
Ten minutes is all day, right?
Candace followed alongside Aria, eyes wide. What the..she was so..chatty! "Well yeah but--yes I am--it's very conven--yes they're very--I've been oka--" Oh my god Aria stop talking what the s**t. She was bewildered by this behavior. She had hung out with Aria before but even then she had never babbled on like this; usually Candace was guilty of that.
"I can't wait for the facility to be cleared out, too. Being underground is very..stuffy? There's no air and stuff and...uh..are you okay? I've never seen you this, uh, talkative." Candace sounded amazed. There was a single hiss in her head from the voice that wasn't Atropos but Atropos hissed right back, 'chasing' it off before Candace could even notice it. "You want me to help you? I'm honored!" She finally got to work alongside her leader! This...this was great!
Just don't ******** up like you always do, Candace. Atropos hissed again, causing the young woman to flinch. Sorry.

The division leader stopped as Candace asked her question, looking over her shoulder. Was the trainee serious? The division leader turned, her arms crossed. But they weren't crossed exactly. Aria's hands were gripping the sleeves of her coat tightly, one hand strangely bare save for the hints of a beaded bracelet half-hidden beneath the wide sleeve of her dirty hunter coat. "Okay? No. No I'm not. I'm alone, Candace. Symph won't speak to me and the last conversation Lance and I had ended in a shouting match that I think all of Deus heard."
Aria turned and began to walk forward before stopping and walking back close to Candace, stopping. "I just think everything will be okay if we get some more space. You know? Or at least some privacy. There's too many people, too many eyes and ears listening while we wait for everything to sort itself out. It's... It's so hard to get some quiet." One of Aria's hands rose as she began to rub at the side of her head. "I've gone through this before, you know. Or I think I have? It's so hard to think and concentrate. It's like I left a radio on at a low volume halfway between stations. Not exactly music, but not just white noise. I think I can catch glimpses of something that seems familiar but -"
The division leader broke off, focusing on Candace again abruptly. "You don't have to come if you don't want to. You can go back. I should have asked you if you wanted to help out or not first. Right? Ugh, I'm so bad with this."

Alone? But ho--what? Candace looked shocked to hear that Aria's own weapon wouldn't speak to her. Atropos had been shrieking and hissing in her head to ward off the voices as best as she could, but Aria's weapon wouldn't..what? But...what? But she had so much more experience on her! Shouldn't their bond be like..perfect or something? How did that even happen? She was also surprised to hear that she and Lance had a fight. That actually surprised her to hear! She wasn't sure what to say. It's not like she could offer advice on either problem. Atropos had never stopped talking to her before, and the last time she spoke to Jerry it had simply ended with her crying and running to Harrison to make sure he was okay and get some hugs out of him.
"No, yeah. You're right. Space is..great. It'd be nice to sleep in a real bed, too." It had been weeks since Candace had slept in a real bed. Sure, she'd slept two whole days away and that felt amazing but bed please. Plus she missed her shampoo, the shampoo that kept her hair from feeling like she had a goddamn sheep on her head. "You've..gone through this before? Like, this what? The whole underground thing?" Her eyes followed Aria's hand to her head and she frowned. A soft whisper echoed through her head, accompanied by a giggle that had her wincing and clenching her fists at her sides so she wouldn't start holding her head and freaking out in front of her leader. That would be terrible. She didn't want to do that. No way. Not in front of Aria...
But..but Aria was describing the exact thing that was happening to Candace. Aria was feeling it too! Oh thank god! Someone who understood! Harrison had thought she was having a mental breakdown for no reason but that hadn't been it at all!
"N-no! Nonono I want to go. I'll help you." Candace said quickly as Aria became unsure of her desire to accompany her. She even reached out to hold Aria's arm. She wasn't going anywhere. "No it's fine really it's okay. I understand, okay? I..I've been ******** up a lot lately I don't want to ******** up please I don't want to disappoint you or anyone else anymore I'll do better, okay?" She bit down on her lip and shook her head, rubbing it with her free hand and closing her eyes. The voices got louder just then. Stop that. Stop it!
"You're not alone, okay? I'm here." Candace frowned up at her leader, opening one eye to peer at her. "Don't ever worry about me saying no to you wanting me to go somewhere with you, okay? I told you nothing but death could take me from the Mists." She gave Aria's arm a squeeze, an attempt at bringing a little bit of comfort without hugging the woman. She didn't seem to like it. "That's not just because I like doing All The Things."
Pouting, Candace gestured toward the dorms. "Lead the way."

"Underground? No. No, no, no. Maybe once. Twice. But that was a cave. Not here." Aria ran her bare hand through her head, visibly jerking back in order to get away from it before grabbing and pulling the sleeve of her coat over it to cover it completely. "This place, this basement? Not for this long. Once or twice? Yes. This was a good place to go to. To be alone," Aria explained quickly. "But now? It's so much smaller. And crowded."
Aria jumped when Candace took her arm, the division leader jerking back in surprise. A startled look was sent between her arm and Cadance's expression before she took a deep breath, holding it and letting it out. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe. Relax. Right, Sym? ... You're still not talking to me, aren't you? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.
There was no response.
"You're not the one ******** up," Aria replied to her, a strained shaky grin and a shrug accompanying the words as she pulled away. "It's me. I don't think anything you've done can compare. I mean, hell. You're not the one who set fire to an entire room then proceeded to run through it for starters. Or tangle with a horseman, no, several who call their clan War. Deus I was so stupid!"
Aria shook her head and turned, leading the way up towards the dorms. "I just... I just need to get away from here and spend some time, you know? But even now we should probably keep working and get better. If not the Insanity, then..." She trailed off, stopping to consider a stray thought -- or was it a voice? It was difficult to tell.
"What role do you want? Sun, moon, life, death...?"

Wow, Aria seemed really frazzled. She really wasn't okay. Candace watched the way she gripped her sleeve, paranoid worry taking over. She even jumped when Candace held her arm..that was more than just thinking she was being attacked or something of that nature. "Ma'am? Is something wrong with your arm?" She was okay with going back to treat it first if that was an issue! Really! Aria was really worrying her.
As Aria claimed to be the one ******** up Candace opened her mouth to protect, at least until she mentioned the whole fire thing. And the horseman thing. Candace pouted. "One? s**t happens. Lance set me on fire did you know he did that?" Narrowed eyes turned to Aria as she said this. She wasn't angry at him, but the fact remained that she was set on fire. "Two, fighting with several War horsemen sounds pretty badass." She grinned, nudging Aria playfully with her elbow. The voices were blasting in her head like an AM radio that couldn't pick up any clear signal. Ignore them. Ignore them. Ignore them. Stay strong. Be there for Aria but what if Aria didn't need her of course Aria didn't need her she was strong and a leader for a reason ******** style="color: #7507AE">"I understand..I await the day one of the hunters or other trainees starts experiencing cabin fever." Candace sighed, rubbing the side of her head. Annoying.
When asked what role she wanted to play Candace blinked, humming thoughtfully. "I usually fill for Life when I don't have one around? I could do a different one instead if you want." She wasn't a fan of Moon, preferring to be in on the action and not someone's meatshield...that and she was bad at it. Sun, she had that down. She didn't generally need to recover from misses..and Death..ehh...

The inquiry of her arm prompted Aria to tighten her grip on her sleeve and look down, away. "No. I'm fine. It's nothing. Don't bother." The division leader stopped trying to pull the sleeve of her coat further over her hand, releasing it with effort. That did not stop her from grabbing the loose sleeve in her free hand, holding it in place to cover it completely.
Aria dropped the subject, her eyes narrowing upon hearing the news of Lance. "Did he," she began flatly. "He wasn't supposed to utilize his flamethrower unless ordered. And even then those orders were to be unlikely, however circumstances favored us differently." She scowled, her dark expression shattering as Candace elbowed her. That caused the division leader to look at her startled, then shake her head. "With backup and we got the drop on them. Any other way? I don't want to think about it. I've fought against them before when I was younger than you."
The division leader turned abruptly and began to walk down the tunnels, not waiting for the trainee. "If you take Life, then I will act as Death. Or sun. I am not very good with Life or Moon myself. It's... difficult to protect someone when your own weapon can do as much harm to yourself as it can do to the opponents." She reached down to her hip, adding, "Sym, you'll at least help me out once we get up there, right? ...I see."

Oh. s**t. Wait. Did she just get Lance in trouble? ********, that wasn't..no that hadn't been what he'd done! Candace's eyes widened as she waved her hands a little. "No! Nononononono that's..no not that way. He wasn't using a flamethrower. He impaled me with his lance. He was like a friggin' fireball in a pinball machine." At least she stopped looking like she was going to kill someone. Though when Aria said she had been younger than her and fighting horsemen there was a pang of jealousy in her heart. Aria had been a hunter at an age younger than her. She almost wished she had that kind of experience. It wasn't fair. Why did they wait so long to take her it wasn't fair why did she have to wait and waste all of that time and stress on something so comparatively insignificant why it wasn't fair it wasn't--Candace. Candace frowned. Right, sorry.
"Yeah, I can do Life. I'm terrible at Moon." The thought did cross her mind to call Harrison. Would Aria mind? She probably would. Aria didn't seem a fan of people from other divisions. But Harrison...Aria..but...but what if..what if she..ugh. Great. Great. She couldn't get the worry out of her head now. Just ignore it. You're good at that.
And Aria was having problems with her weapon..oh dear. Candace smiled anyway, following close by her. "I used to worry about Atropos cutting up my shins. Less of a worry since the shape of her blades adjusted themselves. Kind of like a baby tooth falling out and the grown up one coming in." She chuckled.
When they reached the surface, Candace looked out at the facility, worry filling her gut. "Well...ready?" She had a feeling regardless of if they were ready or not they had a job to do.

Even with the clarification, it looked like a certain Mist assistant was going to be in the doghouse for awhile. Aria took a deep breath and held it, letting it escape in the form of a sigh. She wasn't pleased to hear what Lance did, and yet... Didn't she do the same thing? It wasn't that different. And yet there was still a sense of something, a dis-pleasurable sensation that Aria couldn't put a name to at the very thought of it. It made her want to curl her hands into fists, to clench them tightly and -- and what? Strike? That would be silly. Aria took another deep breath, forcing her hands to unclench and release. "It is different with Symphony and I," Aria began as she lead the way to the surface. "While she and I both work together, the fire she produces does not. Fire itself is a mindless, hungry beast that seeks only to burn and consume. There's no way to make fire burn a certain way or in a certain direction. You have to be mindful of it yourself. But even then..." She trailed off with a shrug, thinking of the chilled runic bandages wrapped loosely around her legs. "Even then you can't anticipate and be prepared for everything that happens. As it is mindless, fire is also quite unpredictable." Upon reaching the surface, Aria nodded towards the facility. "Ready as I'll ever be. The sooner we get this done, well," Aria couldn't help but grin. "The sooner I can get some alone time. Not that I don't mind speaking with you, Candace, but the rest... I need to get away from it all." The division leader left the relative safety of the underground entrance, watching and waiting for any signs of an approaching Insanity monster. "Incoming! We've got company!" Quote: 90-98: A small, fairly solid creature swiftly begins attacking you! Mob Stats HP: 15 Auto Damage: 5 (hit or miss)

It must've been so hard for Aria to have a weapon with such an uncontrollable and unpredictable element. Did anyone else have anything that shot out things like that? Roar simply roared out painful sonic booms...crossbows, bows, Lance was a charging fireball? But other than that..
"...We'll pitch in and buy you a fire suit." Candace said with a light grin, an attempt to lighten Aria's mood with humor. She fell quiet after that, rubbing at the back of her neck with a small pout. Poor Aria. She needed all the support she could get, huh? Well..she had Candace! And Lance! And the Mists. Candace smiled again, walking more energetically beside her leader. She'd protect Aria.
She could understand the desire for privacy. The sooner they were out of the barracks the better. "Aww, you like me? I'm glad." She grinned, nodding. "I understand. I'll help you, 'kay? Just call on me should you ever need help~." Candace said with as much confidence as the whispers in her head would allow.
She wasn't at all surprised with how quickly a creature appeared. She gasped, summoning Atropos quickly and giving the creature a hard kick away. It stumbled, growling like a dog and getting ready to leap at the two hunters. "Oops. Think I made it angry.."

Aria groaned. "Uggh, no thanks. Most of those suits look like they were thrown together out of aluminum wrap. And I think I'll pass on a runic suit. The life division is going to have its hands busy for awhile, I think." That is, even if they could fashion such a thing. Aria knew the basics to get by and assist with the creation of runes. The more complex things? Yeeahno, too far beyond her grasp and she wasn't about to volunteer to check whether or not it would work properly.
After Candace attacked it, Aria pulled her weapon free. As soon as the knife left the sheath it summoned itself, turning into its full flamethrower form. the weapon growled.
I didn't have any choice!
What would you have me do, then?!
I am not as strong as you are, nor will I ever be!
Aria tightened her grip on her weapon. Their conversation took less than five seconds, more than enough time to raise the weapon up and pull the trigger at their shared enemy, even as it charged and struck her.
"..Well. That takes care of one." Aria began conversationally. "Want to take the lead or..?"

Candace laughed. "No! I mean like..what race car drivers wear! My father used to invite me to his house to watch Nascar and stuff..wasn't really my thing but it made him happy." She shrugged, raising a brow. A runic suit? That'd be weird. Though it did remind her of the runic gloves Clarice had agreed to make for her. She looked down at her hands, at the gloves that had been made to substitute for said runic gloves until they were finished. She had thanked Clarice over text but...she wanted to show her appreciation in person. But Clarice had been so busy, there'd been no time at all to get even a minute of the woman's time. Hopefully soon... The creature struck Aria and Candace cursed. Perhaps she should've taken on Moon again..it'd gone so well with Molly. Not. "Yeah that one was simple...way easier than the one Molly and I had to take down in the main building." She sighed, looking surprised by what Aria said next. Her? Take the lead? Well..she... She could. She could lead. She'd done it before, several times even. Candace looked ahead of them, her heart racing. But what if she messed up? What if she did badly? What would Aria think of her? A year as a trainee and she couldn't even lead herself and one other person on a simple clearing run. She would ******** up, she was sure of it. You'll do well, Candace. Atropos purred, her voice like a hug around the woman as she sighed. Candace looked back at Aria, looking nervous. "Sure, I can do that..." There weren't many places to go in the dormitories. Candace pointed down the hall. "This way, then." Candace said, keeping Atropos summoned for once. She was difficult to travel with but she didn't trust this fog. Nothing terrible jumped out at first. They just walked down the hall, Candace looking all around until she nearly tripped on a body. "Ohgod.." Candace gasped, stumbling back away from it with a hand pressed against her mouth. A tablet. Just like last time. "s**t! Grab it before it brea--" It broke, crumbling to pieces and dissolving into a cloudy creature that snarled at them. Goddamnit. The division leader stared, arching one eyebrow. "What... race car drivers wear? I'm afraid I don't follow you," she winced as her ignorance raised its ugly head. "I wasn't much for sports growing up, less so after becoming a hunter."
Aria shrugged at Candace's comment. "There's all sorts of different monsters. Sometimes you'll find easy ones, other times difficult ones. But even the easier ones can take down an experienced hunter, either due to underestimating them or while they're recovering from a different one. It's best to take each one seriously, but -" The mist leader glanced around, confessing, "It doesn't hurt to beat up on the easier ones while you can. While Symph thinks they're a waste of time, there's just something... amazing about watching them fall so easily to you."
She gestured for Candace to take the lead, following behind her. Aria glanced left, right, behind -- always watching, always listening. She reached out to steady Candace when the trainee stumbled back, her attention brought forward to -- "Oh hell."
Aria stepped out from behind Candace and attacked, careful to aim the stream of cold blue-fire at the creature itself. Now would not be a good time to coat the ground with her attack considering her teammate needed said ground to maneuver.
She cut off the fire, side-stepping as the creature charged her. "You're up! Do your thing!" Aria called to Candace. "Let me know if I'm in the way!"

"Sports were pretty much everything where I grew up." Candace sighed, giving a shrug. It wasn't a big deal, really. Doing sports had helped her though...she was glad for that.
She was nervous having Aria behind her, mostly because she was being asked to lead. What if she messed up? What if she lead them to their dea-- Candace! Jackdamn. Seriously, do you doubt me?! Candace's eyes widened. No. No. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. She frowned, biting down on her lip and shaking her head.
Candace stepped aside to avoid Aria's fire, watching her barely hit the damn thing. Wait...what? Aria could do so much better than that. Candace watched her with a wary eye. "..Are you holding back on my account?" She asked with a pout, shaking her head. "It's okay, Aria. I'll be fine." She apparently spoke too soon. Candace tried to get around behind the creature but was shoved against the wall instead.
Lovely.
