Arrival

The door opened onto what had once been a settlement. From the size of the ruins and gardens it must have been a significant town. The world seems desolate, the dead in the hundreds of thousands. We encountered several bodies in the garden.
Not long after our arrival the spirits came, hundreds of them drawn to the Spirit Guide and the life sources of Water and Forest. It was almost too much. I calmed them and Spirit Guide drove them home. I have a feeling they will not be the last we see in this dead land.
With the spirits appeased Forest and Water set about nurturing the barren ground.

After rest, Ankou was able to gain a sense of Forge from the mirror. On his direction we travel East.

Raging Sands

The land has been ravaged by destruction and Gehenna. Desert makes for a hard journey. The sun beats down and burns even us gods. It is barren, merciless, though we fight onwards. We have come here to find forge and none of us will leave without her.

~~

Another setback. A sand storm, raging wind and blasts of grit that all but burried us alive. Myself and Lifewater were sheltered by Forest. Burried into a dune until the storm had passed. Tien managed to escape the worst of it outrunning the winds. Together with Spirit Guide we healed Lifewater and Forest of their injuries.

Luck may be born from misfortune.

The winds, though they hindered our progress uncovered the ruins of a settlement.

We took shelter in a home long abandoned. The family were possibly farmers or ranchers in what was once a bountiful prairie. As we explored our surroundings Spirit Guide called young spirits to us. The youthful and innocent dead.

They were playful creatures, inquisitive and full of peace, nothing like those we met on our arrival. Forest planted a sapling, Lifewater nurtured it, the young spirits were drawn to its life force. A symbol representing hope and a future.

Outside Lifewater created a Wellspring, the first of many he would leave in this land. With Forest's aid shoots sprang forth from the ground. The first oasis.

Together we created a shrine, a memorial of sorts to the fallen and to the future generations who might still inhabit the land.
At each resting point we left a shrine, a symbol or token to represent each of us and a message to those who might find it.

Onwards

After close inspection of the settlement, we discovered a map. Trade routes from when the land was plentiful and rich. There are two cities marked on the map. Birnham and Fehlari. They seem promising locations to search for forge.

Birnham

Finally the desert has given way to something more varied. We have reached the coast and the city of Birnham. At least what is left of it. As with all the settlements we have uncovered, Birnham is a ruin, though there is a sense that it was once a beautiful and prosperous city.

Half has fallen to the sea, there is little sign of life other than a few plants and trees. Still, this is the most promising sight we have seen.

~~ within ~~

The city had been ravaged with plague, the spirits were angry and restless. Spirit Guide had to act swiftly to lead them away from the party. As he struck Gungnir into the ground, it opened and took not only the spirits but the god himself.

For hours there was no sign of him but his spear. None of us were sure what had happened. Had he taxed himself too much? Then, he rose. Not the young, half god he had been but a god at his full power. Spirit Guide had ascended.

With his new strength he took the mirror once more and caught sight of Forge. She lay, not in Birnham but a city beyond, Fehlari.

Fehlari

Felhari lay a few days from Birnham. It is a city built into a gorge. Beautiful and spectacular, even as it is crumbling and abandoned. I can only imagine what sight it might have been when it was filled with life.
It is green here too, life given by the river which flows at the bottom of the gorge.

~~

Our spirits high we travelled to the bottom in search of a library that may have been used as a hospital. We were not wholly prepared for the loss we would find in this structure.

Death lay everywhere, a contrast to the greenery outside.
