This is an open RP

Where: A sandy turf in the Club's waterpark
What's happening: The annual children's sandcastle building contest!

Malo did not like his current attire. He wasn't going in the water, being a lit fire type, so why did he need waterwings and a bathing suit? Preston had bought it today on the way into the contest and it was starchy and uncomfortable, nothing like his usual silky over-cover. He huddled under his towel, trying to hide his pale chest and body from the others all around. The nearest pool was about 40 meters off and there was an imitation beach it ran over. This was the stage for the annual sandcastle building contest, open only to children.

There was a screeching noise as a person stepped up to a microphone and cleared his throat.

"Now, I know everyone is excited to start, but let me first go over the rules!
One, the only ones allowed to participate are the children.
Two, Adults may supervise from the side but cannot help build.
Three, you may have teams of up to three people.
Four, each team will only get one building kit.
Five, please stay away from the pool. If you need water, please get it from the hose over here.
Six, there will be no interfering with other's castles or construction.
Seven, please put the flag provided on your castle only when you are finished.
And of course, eight, have lots of fun!"

He sure was loud and that microphone looked like great fun to play with. But then he was talking again.

"You kids have fifteen minutes to make your teams and get your building kits. At the sound of the buzzer, we will begin! After two hours, there will be pizza and ice cream while we judge the castles. The winning team will get a special prize!"

There was a loud ring of applause from the parents and everyone began to bustle, making teams.

The litwick looked around, noticing teams of three already going to the spokesman to pick up their building bundles. As he drifted passed a team, he glanced at what they had. He saw two buckets, three shovels, some shells, some sticks, decorative beads, some sand shapers and a little red and black flag.

He knew he'd have no chance at the special prize if he didn't get a team. So, kicking into the air, he began to look for any friendly or familiar face.

Tobias loved the water park, only he didn't go there a whole lot. When he did go, it was on his own, just like when he went anywhere. The team was always too busy and he was only ever under foot when he tried to stick near them, so he was often sent away. Sometimes, Dodger even gave him little coins now and again, though money was hard to come by for the poor saps that pitched the tents and ran carnival games.

Today, the young politoed was dressed in only a pair of cheap swim trunks, ones he had eagerly bought a few days ago, as soon as he heard about the contest. He had been too afraid to ask the furret for money, not wanting to seem like an ungrateful child, so he spent days wandering about Clubs, his emerald eyes pinned on the ground, hunting out dropped change. The skin of his chest was pale, but his arms were somewhat bronzed from his days cavorting around Clubs, giving him something the others jokingly called a "farmer's tan," even though he sure was no farmer, whatever that was.

The child listened to the announcer state the rules, fidgeting anxiously, when he caught sight of Malo. At least he wouldn't have to team up with children he didn't know!

Tamaki took a few hesitant steps onto the sand, unnerved by its shifty, gritty feeling on his bare feet. He turned to look back at Matcha, who was standing on the sidelines with the other adults. The Sawsbuck motioned for him to keep going, and Tamaki turned back to his task.

When Matcha had heard about the sandcastle competition, he had been thrilled. Tamaki needed other children his age, but Matcha wasn't sure where to find them.
He dressed up his charge in the cutest of swim trunks and a goofy looking visor to keep the sun out of his eyes, and then ushered him over to Clubs as quick as could be.
Matcha now stood, beaming and grinning like the proud parent that he was, oblivious to Tamaki's discomfort.

Tama had been excited about the competition, but as he heard the mention of teams, his face fell a little.
He didn't know anyone here...
Sure, he could build the best castle ever all on his own... But, everyone else would have help.

Hesitating at the edge of the crowd of kids, he scanned it for friendly faces.
There was a really pale kid floating in the air, oddly enough, he looked friendly. And then another one who looked as anxious as he felt. Maybe he should talk to them.
He edged closer to the kid on the ground, but failed to think of what to say, his mouth just opening and closing without sound.

Malo paused in his flight, seeing the familiar blue curl on the red head of hair. He waved a little arm, looking a bit like a bat with his towel on as it was. "Toby!" He flipped as he went over to him, not noticing the Togepi for that moment.

He tackled the froggy boy in a display of affection, rubbing his cheek against the other's face and then pulling him back up to his feet happily. He floated in circles around him, giggling playfully, then landing. "Wanna make a sand castle with me?"

He paused, looking up at the Togepi and tilting his head from side to side. "Oh, hi!" He greeted, floating and smiling at the newcomer. He drifted around him too, then took his glasses off and looked through them, forward and bold as usual. "Woooaaaahhh. Who's this, Toby? A friend of yours? Does he wanna build with us too?"

"Malo!" He winced ever so slightly at the boy's rather showy display of affection, still not quite used to all the touching, though he really didn't dislike it. A broad grin seemed to take up the majority of his face and his vibrant green eyes sparkled with delight. Though he didn't know the ghost-boy that well, he was already growing fond of his soon to be bestest friend ever. He didn't notice the silent togepi either, instead too enthralled by the chatty ghost, who looked very much like one of those little bats that flittered around the lights, snapping up moths, in the evening times.

"'Course I do, silly. I don' wanna be makin' no castle wit' myself an' I dunno a lot of t'kids what are 'ere."

It was only when Malo pointed Tamaki out that he noticed. All traces of the nervous boy had vanished and he smiled toothily at the strange child, who seemed uncertain of himself. He wasn't physically affectionate, not like Malo, and certainly not with strangers, but he wasn't rude, either.

"I dunno, I ain't never seen 'im 'round these 'ere parts a'fore. Y'been t'Clubs? I'm Tobias. You oughta build wi' us, okay?" He practically adopted the child as his next best friend, at least for the competition. He really didn't know if he'd ever see the baker's son again, nor did it bother him too much. Hell, he was delighted to see Malo, too! But generally, people came and went out of his short life fairly regularly and he always just went with the flow.

Tamaki was startled by the sudden explosion of energy from the floating boy, and even moreso at the, unorthodox greeting that resulted in his glasses being swiped.
He didn't react defensively though, blinking owlishly at the now blurry figures, with a wide smile on his face. The invitation was an instant ice breaker for him.
"I'm Tamaki! This is only my," he hesitated, searching for the word, "second! Second time here... Ma-ma brought me once before..."

He trailed off for a second, his smile turning sheepish, "Can I really build with you? You don't mind?"
The warm welcome was unexpected, but not unwanted. Inside, Tamaki's heart and mind were racing at a mile a minute, excited for these new friends, the competition, and everything.

Malo liked the glasses, but they were making his head a bit achey, so he put them back on the togepi. "And I'm Malo!" He smiled rather toothily and shook Tama's hand. "I'm from Hearts but I like Clubs lots and lots." He looked over his shoulder to Preston, who was reading with disinterest. He didn't know what a ma-ma was, but there were more pressing matters to deal with. Like sandcastles!
"I don't mind at all! Its more fun!" He looked between Toby and the Togepi, then seized both their hands and dragged them along with him to the host.

"Alright, kids. Here's the building kit! Go have fun!"

Malo nodded and gladly took the bag, then released his friends' hands and began to shuffle along, kicking at the loose-topped but packed below sand. "Wegotta find just the right spot for it." He mused. "And...what do you guys wanna make? I was thinking we could make it look like my home in hearts, but since you two dunno what that looks like..."

"Secon'? You oughta be comin' here more, s'a load of fun." The amphibious boy grinned broadly as Malo played with the glasses, but didn't bother trying to take them. True to form, the other boy soon returned them when he was bored with them. Quite frankly, Toby didn't know what a ma-ma was, but if it was anything like a woman, he was curious. He'd never seen of either of those pokemon, before.

"Me neither, the more the merrier, s'what Dodge allus says!" He wasn't that surprised when Malo grabbed his hands and jerked him forward, something he was starting to get very used to. He was excited, though, and didn't have to be dragged too far, before he started running with him, eager to get going.

"How's about right 'ere?" The frog boy hopped with excitement over a damp, sandy area. "Annnnn, why don't we make a big ol' tent, like the ones what the good shows done get done in, yeah? Issat like a castle?"

Tamaki beamed at his new-found friends. This would turn out better than he could have ever hoped! He agreed with Toby, Clubs would have to be a regular place to visit if every trip was exciting as this one!

He let himself be swept up, quite literally, by Malo and the excitement of the event.
After they were handed the building kit, and Toby had chosen a spot for them to build at, Tamaki finally managed to calm himself down enough to get a few words out.
"Well... I don't know what Hearts looks like... But shouldn't castles have lots and lots and lots of towers? So you can see eeeeeverything around, right?"
He squatted down, grinning to himself as he traced a small outline into the sand.
"Andandand... In this book Ma-ma read to me, there was this thing... a turn-a-mint, with all these big tents and things where knights rode around!"
Bouncing up and down where he crouched, Tamaki looked up at the other two, and breathlessly asked, "Maybe we could do something like that?"

Malo sort of scrunched his face at the idea od a tent instead of a big, beautiful castle. "Tents aren't castles, though." He corrected, but that smile swam back to his face. He didn't want to fight the only friends he had, he listened to Tamaki.

His eyes widened and his mouth broadened as he nodded. "I've seen a tourny-ment before, too! There were tents! And lots and lots of towers and stuff!" He watched the Togepi drawing and bobbed his head. "Yeah, yeah! We can do that! Lots of towers!"

He dumped out the building kit, then paused. "It needs a moat, too! Moats are so cool!"

"I ain't never seen a castle, 'afore."

Tobias bit his lip doubtfully as Malo shot down his idea. His cheeks flushed with slight embarrassment, but he watched the pair and took in their suggestions, even if he wasn't quite sure what they all were. He'd do whatever they suggested, without a doubt.

"Uzza moat? I ain't never seen that, either." He gawked at the sketch for a moment, before fighting for some ground. He felt out of place in his own home, which was really rather unusual, but it was just cos his new friends were so smart.

"I wanna do et, though, whate're it is." He bobbed his head in resolution, a broad smile painted across his pale, green-flecked cheeks.
