Where oh were was the calming voice of reason that used to be her muse when she needed it? The black lioness paced the face of the royal's cave, waiting for Shandor Riddlemouth, Gypsy King. Rani had a tendency to put her foot in her mouth or make a bad impression from the get-go, she prayed this wouldn't be one of those times.
Did she show up too early? Perhaps the sun had not been up for long enough before she made her appearance. For the female the morning had been nothing but agony and angst, cursing the sun for taking too long to rise. This was no casual courtesy call, there was no celebration to bid him good tiding, Rani'Kob was here on business.
There's a passion deep within the lioness' eyes, often mistaken as a twinkle or naivety, but a furnace lay deep down fueled by showing what she's made of. Her muse had always torn her down, incouraging her to be proper above all.
Calm down, Rani, you can do this.

He still hated mornings. With his other-self gone, however, mornings were slightly more bearable. There wasn't another voice complaining about beating the sun into the sky, there wasn't grumblings about his being lazy, gaining himself a head of den-mane, none of it. He was free to enjoy the whisper of water creeping over the sands, sliding between rocks, and bubbling back out to sea. He could hear the gulls crying above and the sea air blowing through the small, shriveled trees that sat twisted and knotted along the higher cliffs of their territory.
It was a beautiful morning. But he hated mornings regardless. It was bright, noisy, and the sun never failed to wake him just as he'd found a warm, comfortable spot curled in the back of his den. A reasonable lion would trudge out and stretch himself over a stone, enjoying the heat of the sun on his back for the rest of the day. Night time, after all, was when a proper lion woke up to the world. It hid them in its shadowy embrace, it was full of stars, and the light of the moon shone off the backs of the lovely lionesses as they danced through the ocean waters.
He sat himself up and took a few moments to groom back his mane, dust off his coat, and adorn the assortment of coins, trinkets, and the simple violet headwrap. Both he and Ame had decided that they would set the standard for their pride's 'look'. They were entering into a new generation and a new culture. The trinkets were, more or less, symbols of the new way of their livelihood.
He stepped from the mouth of the cave and raised a brow. Good gods he'd over slept...
"...Ah Rani. My apologies. Seems I've kept you waiting."

Rani'Kob would not screw this up, she was determined to hold her childhood tendencies in front of the King. Unfortunately a rouge itch snuck itself up the base of her tail and she had the most ferocious urge to bite it, but with her luck that would be the moment the royal would come out. There was no way she had fleas or any such nasty flakes, she was a female of pride and appearance. She hoped the message would come across clearly with the pelt cape the crafter Mako'Croft had made for her as a token of appreciation for her hunting skills.
The time that she was waiting for the King allowed Rani apply her self-soothing techniques and the fog dissipate. Time to Rani meant nothing in the day time, especially the early day; honestly this was the first time she'd been in the pride so late in the morning. This meant no work out for her today, another first. This really was the turn of a new leaf, and she was proud (which was a relatively new experience).
The King was received with a genuine smile and a bow, "No problem at all, sir. I work at night, this is my work-down time. I hope you are well." Trinkets happened to be one of Rani's favorite things, she wondered at them for a moment. It was a sign that she was talking to the right lion.

He snorted and waved a paw dismissively. "Sir is for the elders." He hated the formal title, really he did. It made him feel old or respectable. Perhaps he'd earn it one day but for the moment he was content enough speaking on the same level as everyone else. A leader was, after all, just a bossy individual who got his way. He liked it, but it didn't give him any desire to have a fluffy title used in addressing him.
"I am well enough, well enough. There are plenty of new faces and stories to keep myself entertained. And yourself?" He smirked. "You look like you're up to something. Let's not be greedy now, do tell."

A coy, respectful smile spread across her face as a conceeding to the King on what to address him as. In the excitement this morning she had neglected to eat, not the smartest move in her state. Up to something? Rani could not help a smirk pop into the corner of her mouth.
"I must need to work on my poker face if it's that easy to read, I am a thief after all. Well, I'm sure you've noticed the number of new bloods in our pride is dreadfully low and it pains my heart to think this pride isn't meeting it's fullest potential. What is a pride without brothers and sisters to hold in arms after all?" Rani was completely surprised how articulately she was speaking and hoped her point wouldn't come across in the wrong light.
"In my own life while I've yet to find love I've tried to help by," she hesitated, "I believe 'hooking-up' is the term they use now with a safe male rogue. I'm not too sure how wonderful of a mother I'll be, but I will do anything for the pride. Including what some may feel would be against their own moral fiber, I am a thief after all." This time there was subtext dripping from her words, hoping she wouldn't need to further explain herself too much.

Riddlemouth chuckled and shook his head. "Come now, even the best masks are useless against one who is so used to them himself. Play the part long enough, you begin to recognize your fellow actors. There is no shame in that." He flicked his tail and listened, his dark eyes thoughtful as the female continued.
The lack of new blood was troubling. Almost as much as the fact that so many had left. Upset by the loss of their muses- rather, their insanity. Why anyone would cling to such a plague was beyond him. His muse had been a cruel thing, biting and gnawing at the back of his mind without tiring. He was glad to be rid of it and was unwilling to sympathize with any that paned for their loss. Those that left- well good riddance.
"Yes, it is a problem. A growing one. As bellies grow fat and those little ones become old enough to fatten bellies themselves, or become heavy themselves, the bloodlines grow closer and closer. It may come to the point when brothers hold sisters in their arms." He shuddered to think. Not under his watch. "I agree that something must be done."
He looked over. "Well, my thief, you sound like you have thought of this already. What comes to mind? What would your solution be?"

This was the prompting she had been preparing herself for, finally talking to the only lion that would actually be able to make a change if he saw fit. Her respect for him was overwhelming, expelling energy from her vibrant eyes as if he were an idol, her idol. But this was no time for her girly feelings to stir, it was the hormones she determined and pulled herself together. Rani's abusive, terror of a muse would just about have her to tears by now, warding her to fail. Good riddance.
Rani flicked her tail in one direction and her orange hair tuft in opposite directions in unison to redirect her attention to the time, so she didn't appear to be just another daydreamer crazy pride member. Although, they often had the best ideas, sometimes its the sane ones who are crazy not to listen.
"I believe we need to organize the talented thieves in our ranks and fill some of those vacant Prince and Princess positions." She paused to try to read the King's reaction then continued. "Our neighbors, Bahari'Mtoto has just had some unfortunate losses and are beginning to rebuild their numbers but I've noticed not so much with their security forces." A sly, but not devious smile crossed her face, she had been doing her own recon, under the radar of any creatures.
"I humbly suggest we open the blood lines, my King. In my own attempt to open the bloodlines, I'll soon bare the children of a rogue who agreed to only take one cub for as his own, the rest are for the pride."
