Um. I've been approached by some guy recently who's got a graphic novel he needs an artist for - the pitch sounds very cool, this guy's credentials check out (real person, has had work actually published by real comic book companies), and he wandered across my site and liked the cut of my jib. I'm totally stoked by this, and well up for the project.

Only problem is, I've not worked in the sequential art/visual storytelling/graphic novels medium before. I've done individual pieces, and that's about it. I've read quite a few comics, though, so that hopefully means I've got some grasp on the conventions of the format. But I need more.

Can any of you people recommend someplace I can read up on the principles of Drawing Comic Books? Not the anatomy stuff or whatever, I've got loads of references for that. But stuff like panel layout and composition, allowing space for speech bubbles, stuff like that? I need to cram the visual vocabulary into my brain, and fast.

So, yeah. Talk to me. domokun

Well...right at the top of my head... http://www.polykarbon.com/
but personally I feel that with comics you learn by doing. So just get the dimensions and play around. . B.

I wish I knew. I've been operating on trial-and-error... which is really how I do everything.
