"Chuuu!" A yellowish-orange paw waved in her peripheral vision, pointing vaguely at something up ahead of them.
"Hush, we're nearly there," the agent said calmly to her impatient Pikachu. The electric-type sighed and huffed, resigning himself to perching on her shoulder quietly. That didn't mean he couldn't still be excited, though.
It had been much too long, in his opinion, since he had last played Guitar Hero. He enjoyed the game very much, despite not being very good at it, and he couldn't even remember the last time Claire had taken him to play it. He really wished she had it in her room, rather than having to go all the way to the rec room to play it. None of that mattered anymore, however, as the agent turned a corner and was heading toward the rec room. Zeus made a noise but otherwise attempted to be patient.
Claire spared him a sidelong glance, one eyebrow raising at his behavior, but for the time being she didn't say anything else. He wasn't being unreasonable, and she couldn't help but realize just how much his behavior and attitude had changed since she first caught him. It was almost as if he were an entirely different pokemon, although she knew better. That was what - what, a year and a half? - of training did, although some Pokemon were easier to train than others. Zeus had not been easy.
He was now though, she thought as she stopped in front of one of the rec rooms. After turning the handle and glancing inside briefly to see if it was in use or not - it wasn't - she entered and shut the door behind her as the excited Pikachu jumped off her shoulders and bounded towards the tv.

Hallways. Hallways. Hallways. The sterile halls of the headquarters building were bland and uninteresting. They would be easy to reproduce as a stage set, of course, but who in their right mind would set a production in a place like that? The desert was an interesting backdrop, though, as uncomfortably warm as it was. Far enough out one even began to get the silhouette of the nearest city in frame, and that had implications all its own. Just think of the character development--
If the idle nature of her thoughts were of any indication, Catherine was rather aimless for the time being. She had finished her given duties and had been rewarded with some spare time, and, with nothing special on her agenda for the day, she decided to spend it watching others. And ah, fortune, as the voices of pokemon and trainer summoned her attention from down the hall. A woman and a Pikachu, apparently. Catherine slowed her pace to observe as the pair turned and started off in another direction. Were she the expressive sort, her brow might have furrowed in knowing confusion, and she might have frowned at what she noticed. Her black hair had the texture of hair that was dyed rather than natural, perhaps even straightened. The colored contacts were a more difficult catch, but their recognition was aided by the almost nostalgically familiar facial structure. It had been many years, but not so many as to make her unrecognizable. How incredibly unexpected.
Catherine followed with an uncharacteristic purpose to her step, noting the other female's movements and tracing them swiftly. This was far too interesting to overlook. As the door shut, she reached to open it again, ducking her head in through the doorway ahead of the rest of herself. "Lucretia?"

The span of time between Claire shutting the door and Catherine opening it was very short, but not so small a time that the agent hadn't done anything. She had crossed the room and knelt down in front of the tv by the time the door opened, had even registered the fact someone else had opened the door, but she was trying to figure out how to turn this stupid game cons--
The blood turned to ice in her veins at the same instant she felt practically her entire body tense. Lucretia. She hadn't been addressed by that name in years. Hearing it from anyone - here, especially - was a veritable shock. Her head snapped up and she stared wide-eyed at the other woman, eyebrows raised and lips parted very slightly, her hands hovering over the device she had been concentrating on only moments ago. Zeus didn't seem to notice what the big deal was, or if he did, he gave no indication save for his continued impatience.
No, it wasn't Tethys or anyone that wanted to kill her.
Slowly, very slowly she felt herself begin to relax, and her face cycled through a variety of expressions in rapid succession. The initial shock gave way to a brief spell of disbelief, followed quickly by a healthy dose of confusion. This was replaced with a more focused, concentrated expression. While this girl was obviously familiar - she had to be, she'd known her real name, after all - she couldn't really remember her... It must have been from quite a few years ago, certainly not in Galactic... Oh, but that would mean... Ah. "Please don't call me that." Her expression was more neutral now that confusion wasn't clouding it. "I go by Claire now. You're... Catherine, correct?" My, it had been quite a few years...

Catherine was vaguely taken aback by Lucretia's response to her own name. People didn't generally associate their names with knee-jerk reactions of shock and terror. Analysis aside, that was... very strange. She tilted her head slightly aside, staring as the woman made her motions through a predictable set of emotions. Coral eyes watched intently as she came to a conclusion that dispelled doubt and confusion, replacing the characteristics of her features with a neutral recognition. It would be a fine poker face, had Catherine not seen everything that led up to it. Claire. Strange indeed. "Understood," she confirmed briefly, mentally filing the note away. Claire, Claire... Lucretia. All the letters were present, discarding few and substituting none. Either she liked her name so much that she didn't want to throw it away in its entirety or she simply lacked the creativity or concern to come up with something more different.
She nodded once to confirm her identity, passing fully through the doorway and quietly shutting the door behind her. Claire, hm. And add to that, a deliberate change in appearance. Not a terribly thorough one - it was just simple stage makeup - but enough to make people wonder. Lucretia was hiding from something, it seemed.

If Catherine was at all surprised by Claire's reaction, she gave absolutely no indication. She was also... Surprisingly quiet. Quiet and different. Then again, she couldn't fault the other woman for changing when she herself had changed so dramatically. It had been, what, eight years? Arceus, had it been that long since acting school...?
After studying Catherine for a few moments, the agent went back to setting up the game for Zeus. Violet eyes were focused on the console while she spoke, rather than her company for the time being. "It's been quite a few years since I've seen you. How have you been?" Last she knew, Catherine was a friendly and outgoing girl in acting school. She couldn't remember how many friends the woman had or if she had been dating anyone at the time - it was hard enough to remember Catherine herself, let alone people she knew that Claire herself didn't - but she at least had a few foggy memories left. They had never really hung out or spent too much time together except during plays or rehearsals.

She nodded, confirming the great amount of time that had passed since their last encounter. Her days at the acting academy were well and truly far behind her. Passingly she had the thought that Claire might have been confused by disposition; the actress used to perform on a more permanent level, leading her day to day life as she lead the stage, her every facet a performance intended to sell herself as a charming individual. She had, of course, dropped that guise long ago, living instead as herself regardless of how unappealing that self was to others. Lucretia seemed to have changed significantly as well, though from what Catherine assumed from her flagrant display of emotion earlier, it wasn't the same parting from a mask as it was for Catherine. Rather, it seemed an honest change in character, earned through whatever events she had experienced in the years that they had not known one another. The silent woman was insatiably curious, but only her steadfastly searching gaze indicated this in any way.
"Well," she answered curtly. "Yourself?" Never as little as a breath wasted.

As Claire had her back turned, she didn't see Catherine's nod of affirmation. Her silence, however, was regarded as such anyway while she finished setting up and turned the machine on. After plugging something in, she finished and stood just as the other woman spoke. "There," she exclaimed, more to the Pikachu than anyone else - at the word, he immediately dove towards a plastic guitar nearby and started fiddling with it - before turning towards her company to be more polite. "I've been... Alright, I suppose. Better now than the past few years - things sort of went downhill after I got kicked out." Catherine would have heard of that, she was sure - it wasn't exactly something that would've been kept quiet. Teenagers loved to gossip, after all, and something so bold more than likely would've garnered attention.
She gazed at the electric-type briefly before walking to the couch and sitting down comfortably, folding her legs half beneath her. "When did you arrive here?" If she'd been here very long, she would've noticed her before now... Although Catherine was being rather quiet - wasn't she much more.... Lively in school..? This was odd. Did people really change so dramatically in so short a time?

Interesting what trainers would do for their pokemon's entertainment and overall enjoyment. Interesting what pokemon enjoyed and found entertaining. Catherine indulged Liepard with a little pampering from time to time, but she couldn't imagine setting up such an intricate game for the dark-type's amusement - and that was assuming that there was such an intricate game that the feline would want to play. More notable than that were the words Lucretia - Claire - spoke, the intonations and the pauses, the phrasing and the deliberate word choice, the things mentioned and left unexplained. There was something to be learned from all of it.
Catherine had indeed heard tell of Claire's expulsion, though the rumors had been regarded with a grain of salt. The story surrounding it was a poorly-told play with its would-be narrator ejected from the stage, and Catherine had by now given up on ever learning the intricacies of the situation. It was a shame, but conclusions drawn from rumor were endangered by inaccuracy, and now, years upon years later, it hardly seemed of much significance. The Claire now likely would respond differently to the situation Lucretia had been in then, and her nonchalance on the matter suggested that she didn't regard the turn of events as highly impacting. That was telling in itself, and that was what was important.
"Recently," she replied simply, advancing a few steps to separate herself from the door in case anyone else entered. She decided to provide a rare substantiation to her words for the sake of maintaining a flow of conversation, "I was sent to provide extra hands in addressing the matter of your missing teammates, but it seems the matter has been resolved."

Claire smoothed out the fabric of her pants with a hand before laying it on her knee, the other resting on the arm of the couch so she could focus entirely on Catherine. She listened closely while the other spoke, offering a nod before speaking. "Yes," she replied with a sigh, her tone very relieved as a similarly relieved smile touched her lips, "it has. I'm glad, too; a close friend of mine was taken."
Cue pause.
"Do you know the particulars of their kidnapping?" Surely she had been told of Galactic, right? It would be absolutely ridiculous if she hadn't yet, considering the actions of the rival team. They very nearly remade the world, for Arceus's sake.

She didn't have to say that a friend had been involved for that to be evident, and stating it outright left few conclusions to be drawn the words. Catherine instead looked to posture and body language, the full attention Claire offered the other woman. She was being very frank, then; she nodded when she offered confirmation, and she smiled when she said she was glad. This was also interesting, though, given her earlier professional demeanor. Though the incident at the acting academy no longer seemed to have any influence, this incident clearly held sway over her state of mind.
Catherine shook her head once at the prompt. "The kidnapping itself was a rumor I only managed to confirm due to the circumstances of my transfer." The information was kept very tightly - or attempted to, at least. After the agents had been informed of the situation, it was only a matter of a very short spell of time before rumors abounded in all ranks.

Claire nodded once to show she understood. Violet eyes darted to the screen when a song suddenly started playing, the Pikachu trying his best with three paws to play the part of the guitar. His trainer leaned over to grab the remote from a nearby table and turned the volume down - it didn't need to be that loud. Arceus...
"Anyway," she said slowly as she focused back on Catherine, "I can fill you in on the details." She politely waited a moment to see if the other woman would decline before she continued. "A group of Rockets was sent to steal an item from a museum in another region. I believe... Seven went - an executive, an elite and the rest agents or grunts - but only two returned, an agent and a grunt. The rest were kidnapped by our rival, Team Galactic." She paused again, brow furrowing very slightly as a decision was reached. "What do you know of Galactic?"

The Pikachu's activities were peculiar. Was this recreation or some form of coordination and reaction training? Perhaps both; it was obvious, after all, that one would be more receptive to exercise if it appeared in a form of entertainment. The matter of Galactic, however, was more interesting than a Pikachu playing video games, and Catherine chose to keep her attentions on the more significant matter.
"Factually, little," she said. "When leaving the base for field missions, we were reminded to watch for suspicious activities and report back immediately if we saw any sign of Galactic presence." The implications were clear enough that Catherine didn't feel the need to state them: Galactic was presumably a dangerous group that often meddled in Rocket affairs. The fact that had kidnapped not only grunts but also agents and even an elite confirmed that much easily.

"They built a machine that could harness the power of legendary pokemon in order to recreate the world however they wanted. In theory, anyway; I don't know if it would've actually worked, but their leader is an unfortunate genius with technology. It probably would've, had one of our mission groups not destroyed it." Claire raised a hand to tuck a few loose strands of hair behind her ear casually before placing it back on the couch, then frowned softly. "One of our agents died as a result of that mission; I'm pretty sure one of theirs did, as well."
She glanced over at Zeus when the song ended and saw that he'd somehow scored (barely) enough points to avoid failing the song - while some might consider that sort of pathetic, it was a great improvement over time. He used to fail every song after about fifteen seconds in.

"I see." She lowered her eyes slightly and was silent for a time. What a childish solution to being unhappy with the state of the world. But the circumstances themselves couldn't exactly be called childish if they had led to someone's death. It was evident that the death hadn't affected Claire personally to any significant extent, given how she was able to deliver the information with as little emotion as a frown, but it was good to be aware of this. An agent - a high-ranking and respected officer of the organization - had perished; thus, Galactic was not a matter that was to be spoken of lightly.
"And current affairs?" The tides had evidently turned if Rocket had managed to rescue their missing crew, but to what extent, and where did that leave Galactic now?

Claire leaned back and hummed lightly as she thought, her gaze focused on a corner of the ceiling as she considered the best phrasing for her response. "A high-ranking member of Galactic defected and joined us in exchange for providing information as to Galactic's mobile headquarters. He'd apparently rigged explosives in one of the departments, which necessitated immediate grounding for repair work. Once he acquired the coordinates after a week - he was waiting for some sort of homing beacon to activate, I think - a mission team was sent out which I was not chosen to attend. They successfully recovered all missing Rockets and incurred minimal injuries in the process, as well as somehow encountered their leader, Deimos, alone and managed to capture him, and no doubt used him to secure safe passage back. They returned in a Galactic jet, which I'm thinking they would've had trouble procuring if not for their hostage," she explained. Wow, that was a lot of talking. "To my knowledge, he's sitting in our brig as we speak, and we haven't heard from Galactic since. They won't take this lying down though, I'm sure, although I don't know what they intend to do about it just yet."
