Aleister had refused to go into the infirmary to rest instead trying to find things to do around the camp where he wouldn't be in the way. Eventually settling on building some sort of snow fort. Be it an igloo or just a wall, he wasn't really sure where he was going with it but it was better than doing nothing at all.
His gloves kept his hands from being too cold and he occasionally used pookie's chain to fix some of the edges.
<You do realize, I'm not a tool for snow building don't you?> Pookie sounded a little irritated.
"Humor me. I have nothing better to do." He said to the weapon as he continued his work.

Syd had gone to the infirmary. She had gotten healed. She had tried to sleep--and slept for all of half an hour before she woke, unable to sleep any longer. Her mind was racing and her dreams were troubled. Bugs turned into Julie who turned into a killer whale--
Well, it was no wonder the mist girl was strolling through the camp, looking for something to distract herself with. And she saw it just then. "Aleister?" she said, heading for the teenager. "What... um... are you doing?"
Although that was pretty obvious. "You should be resting!" And now she was a hypocrite, too!

"Doing something productive." He answered as he didn't bother to stop. How it was productive was beyond any rational concept but.... He was trying to show he wasn't useless.
He paused, "You should be resting...." He countered brow lofting, "I wasn't hurt...." He sighed as he continued ducking behind the snow brick to start another one.

"I can't sleep," she admitted. "The bugs turned into Julie, then Julie turned into a whale and then--" She sighed, hugging herself slightly. "It wasn't... a good dream," she finished. "I just..." Idly she got on her knees and started digging at the snow, trying to help. "I need to NOT think right now."

Aleister's brow lofted when she said she couldn't sleep and stated talking about how the bugs turned into Julie and.... yeah he nodded, "Mm yeah I know what you mean."
He was probably going to have nightmares after this too, which is why he didn't want to think about even trying to rest. "Why do you think I'm building a fort? Not to mention I at least... maybe look useful doing something." He sighed as he picked up Pookie and used him to get the block unattached from the rest of the snow.

She dug silently for a moment, wondering how to put it. "You know... you kicked my butt when we sparred," she said after a moment. "It was the first time--only time so far--that I've had my FEAR shield broken. It was scary. I mean, before this I didn't even have a FEAR shield, but now I'm so confident because I have one--" She let out a breath of air, watching it cloud in front of her.

Aleister stopped for a second before going back to making the block straight as well as the same height and width as the others after having moved it in place. "Yeah?"
He wasn't really sure what to say, but it was a question he could ask without sounding... rude? He sighed. Just because he beat her once didn't mean he wasn't useless. "You're better at this than I am... that was just a fluke." He added as he continued to work.

"No, no it wasn't," she said. "Your ability--that heavy hit of yours--that wasn't a fluke. All I can do is blind people, you are a very... a very good fighter," she told him, looking extremely serious about it. "That is not worthless, especially when we're fighting for our lives."

Aleister paused, "It's worthless when you freeze in the middle of a battle." He answered.
Turning to get more snow. "Or when you constantly miss your targets." He added as he packed in the snow, "I'm suppose to know signs, be able to guide you guys away from danger."
He smoothed out the block a bit, "You were the one that ended up doing that. I almost got everyone hurt." He was speaking quieter as he answered sighing as he looked at the block still rubbing snow off of it not satisfied.

"Aim can be worked on," Syd told him. "Finding safe ways of going can be worked on. But hitting harder naturally--I think there's a runic tool I can get," she said. "But we both know how runic tools work," she added dryly.
"Aleister... you're one of my closest friends. I won't blame you if you don't feel the same, you've been on the island far longer than I have and met more people--but I don't want you beating yourself up like this when you did the most important thing of all. You survived."

Aleister paused looking at Syd. Leaning on the snow block he'd made both hands pressed in the snow and standing up a bit to try and make her understand his point. "I survived because I ran. I survived because I didn't do much in the way of helping." He paused, "Almost everyone else was hurt or injured because they fought that monster. They were the ones to sedate it. I did nothing to help." He added.
"I couldn't even find our way back and we weren't that far away!" He dropped back to his knees, and sighed. "There's no honor in being a chicken. If Caelius knew I'd be dead anyways."
He turned back and started working on another block ignoring the hand prints he'd left in the one he'd worked so hard to get even and straight. "I should've just tried to find that pearl... we... could've had a leg up..." He sighed remembering the eyes he'd landed in and when he screamed like a little girl at all the bugs.

Syd stared at him. "You're a DEATH HUNTER," she said finally. "Your job is to get out of there in any way you can. You did your job, Aleister. You survived." She seemed quite stuck on that one. "When there are leaders dying every time we turn around, don't you think we should try and have a little more self preservation?"

Aleister heard what she was saying but it wasn't any consolation. "I'm tired of running..." He muttered before turning back to look at her.
"That's why we went for that pearl thing. It was to help us survive." He shook his head, "If those artifacts are going to improve survival rate... there's more to it than surviving; we don't even know what we're fighting."
He stopped working on the block and ended up sitting down and leaning against the ones he'd managed to build. Staring out over the frozen wasteland.

Syd stood and moved to stand beside him, leaning against the snow. She didn't quite touch him, but she could feel his body warmth. There was so much cold around that she appreciated even that.
"Then..." she said quietly. "No, I won't tell you not to run. I was almost eaten by a whale and dropped onto a giant eye--if I hadn't ran I would be whale poop by now," she said straight faced and serious toned. "Are you angry at me for trying to help?"

He sighed and packed a ball of snow as Syd stood beside him. He didn't look at her. "Angry at myself." He answered tossing the snowball up and down watching it. Pookie was sitting beside him in the snow.
