She was getting marginally better at this whole "save the world" thing. Marginally. There was still a great deal of wailing and screaming and running for her life. People no doubt stared and wondered who let the ice skater from her rink and why and was being chased by mutant animals. Unfortunately, this time was no different.
The one called Sutai had been wandering the city on one her patrols, telescope wielded like a baseball bat, trying to find trouble and grannies to save. Trouble found her more often than not, her baby starseed shining like candy ready to be taken and eaten. Such a youma took on the challenge - a large and rather agile praying mantis-like thing, long spindles for arms and legs. It cracked and creaked as if made of grinding plastic and took off like a rocket after Sutai. Its shrill cry made her ears ache and broke nearby store windows. It was a sight to behold.
Sutai was having none of it.
"Why does it have to be so hard?!" she shrieked, only managing to bonk the monster on the head when it swiped at her. This only succeeded in making it angrier. Narrowly dodging a claw to the chest, the fledgling page tried hiding beside a building, tucking herself in an alley behind a dumpster to regroup. "This one is so much bigger than the other ones why is this so haaaaaard?" whined the girl, clutching her telescope like a child would her favorite toy.

Chris hadn't planned going on patrol that night. There had been an away game, and when the bus dropped him off at campus that night, he had every intention of heading home and getting some sleep, but obviously that wasn't what fate had planned.
It was the shrill screech that drew his attention first, and then the recognizable energy of a youma registered in his tired head. There was obviously something going on nearby, and he didn't want to wait and see if someone else would take care of the problem.
Valhalla transformed the moment he reached an alleyway close to where he could sense the youma, losing the polo and khakis and gaining leather and fur in their place. He'd only had his backpack with him, having left his baseball gear in the baseball locker room for the next day's game, but it was easily replaced with a strange looking spherical object, chained to his belt and swinging beside him as he ran towards the scene...
... and almost into the Page as she retreated and hid.
"Careful!" he gasped in surprise as he nearly ran into her, having tried to duck behind the same dumpster so he could asses the situation. "Are you okay?" he asked, gently grabbing onto her shoulders to keep her from stumbling or toppling over. Clearly she was being chased by a youma, but she didn't appear to be injured.

Sutai wibbled and clung to the new person like he was the last person on earth. She nearly knocked him over by koala'ing all up onto his broad shoulders. When that didn't work, she attempted to bury herself in whatever clothing she could get ahold of. Monsters were scary and she was bad at defeating them and this was so haaaaaard! Why couldn't she have lasers or something? This wasn't fair! She sniffled and cried out her frustration because, frankly, she didn't know what else to do.
The Polaris Page looked up at her savior, pleading. "Mister! Mister, you're a knight! Could you please please please help me get rid of the monster? I'm no good at it and I'm super scared and I dunno what to doooooo!" The rest degenerated into a fit of wailing and sobs.
Those sobs were music to the mantis youma's ears and it easily found where the two were hiding. Once Sutai caught sight of it, she squeaked and pulled out her telescope only to... try and hide behind it. "Mister, you look super strong can you please do something please please please?" The youma's shrill cry was deafening and it charged the pair hiding behind the dumpster, ready to pry them apart like a can opener does a tuna can.

Valhalla sputtered and did indeed topple backwards, although doing his best to keep the girl from being tossed onto the dirty alleyway ground.
"Shh!" he tired, both wanting to be calming but insistant. If they attracted the youma's attention now they could both end up in a lot of trouble! "It's alright, just calm down!" he said, groaning as he could hear the cry of the youma. Valhalla held onto the girl as best he could, and leapt out of the way of the attacking youma, landing several feet away and trying to set the girl back down on her feet.
"Calm down!" he tried as the youma proceeded to rip the dumpster from the wall, and then shriek in disappointment when its prey was missing. "Look, they're not that tough if you just take a breath and assess the situation," he told her, while keeping an eye on the youma in question.
"You're a Page, aren't you?" he asked, although fairly certain he was correct in his assumption. He could feel her energy level rather clearly as they were so close. "And is that your weapon?" he asked with a nod to the telescope. "That's not bad... I had a beat up, old compass when I first started." Maybe he wasn't reassuring her like he intended on doing, but if she knew she wasn't alone in being thrown out into the city without a clue in the world, maybe that would help...?
"You're gonna have to help me, okay? I'll watch your back, but you have to help me distract it," he told her, wanting to make sure she wouldn't try climbing up again before they could form a counter attack. "Look for something stronger to hit it with. Anything will do. A lamp or pipe... dust mop... just to give you some more distance."

Another shriek and the page was off, trailing behind the knight and trying to keep up. Youma were scary and she didn't like them one bit!. What this guy was saying made sense and he seemed so calm when he said he... surely, Sutai thought, he had to know what he was doing. If one didn't know what they were doing, one couldn't reach knighthood! That's what Sutai thought anyway. Surely they were powerful for a reason! "Umm... umm... okay! Okay, I will go find something!" she sputtered and turned heel and ran down the alley like she stole something. And steal something she did, but Sutai figured it was okay because she needed to destroy bad guys with it! So clearly it was okay. After wandering around in trash heaps for a little while, Sutai returned with a length of chain she found, about five feet in length. Everything else seemed quite lame in comparison. Rushing back to the Jupiter knight's side, Sutai panted. "Well... this... this was all I could find! It was either this," gulp, "or a blender and a blender didn't seem like the best thing to pick." The mantis youma hissed, rearing up on its hind legs to lash out with its long and sharp claws. Sutai jumped behind the much bigger Valhalla. "I... I dunno what to do! How do I distract it without getting torn in half???"

”This is great! It’ll work!” Valhalla nearly had to shout over the hissing of the angry youma, and flinging his arm out to keep the younger page back, behind him as it reared up.
“You’re gonna have to trust me!” he said lamely, never having been that great with explaining things, or at least not in his own mind. He knew it was a lot to ask of someone he’d just met, but there wasn’t much else for her to really do at the moment. If they wanted to get rid of this youma they would need to work together.
“I won’t let it attack you,” he promised, gripping tightly onto his compass as he yanked on her arm to get her out of the way of the youma’s lunge towards them . They would need to be careful, but it wouldn’t be impossible.
“You go that way, and I’ll be over here. We need to get under it, I think... if we can trip it...” he said, eyeing the chain she had. It would have to do, even if it wouldn’t be the easiest thing to manipulate.
“Just get its attention and when it doesn’t expect it I’ll use my magic, then toss me the end and we’ll get it down,” he quickly explained, hoping she would be able to pick up what he meant through context.

Sutai squeaked as she was pulled out of the way of the youma's great claw. Valhalla seemed to know what he was doing but the page of Polaris was simply too frightened to think very clearly. She clung to the much larger and stronger knight like a terrified koala. His promise comforted her a little but part of her wondered whether she would live to see tomorrow. "Umm... um... get its attention?!" she sputtered, eyes wide with terror. But if I get its attention, it'll EAT ME. came the thought. She didn't want to die but a growing part of her became worried that if she ran away, what would the monster do to Valhalla? What would it do to someone without powers? Taking a few deep breaths, she turned to the knight. "...yes! ....yes, okay. I will!" The jittery page took one look at the mantis youma and swallowed her regret. The length of chain was in her hand. "You... you are very ugly and nobody likes you!" she shrieked and ran around the youma, causing it to snarl and turn to face the tasty screaming treat.

Well, that was definitely one way to get its attention!
Valhalla stared in disbelief as the young page ran around the youma, effectively getting its attention. He didn’t think she had to scream like that, but it certainly distracted it from him.
There were a couple times he thought about using his magic a little early if only to keep the youma away from her, but she seemed to have it under control... sort of...
Either way, once she had a good position on its other side, Valhalla did as he’d said and used his magic. As a large claw went flying towards the Page, it was suddenly thrown backwards in the opposite direction. Dazed and confused, the youma hesitated, not sure about how it was now able to move around.
“Now!” Valhalla called to her, holding out his free hand to ready himself for catching the end of the chain.

Sutai almost forgot what she was supposed to do with the chain. She was very busy flailing and calling the youma all sorts of names like ugly, stupid, smelly, unreasonable and that sort of thing. She thought it was a very vicious verbal assault. When Valhalla called for her to do something, Sutai squeaked and leaned back as hard as she could, hoping her body weight and sheer determination was enough. The youma flailed for a bit, hissing and digging its claws into the nearby building in a futile attempt to keep upright, but it was all in vain. The chain pulled taut, caught up its limbs and sent it tumbling to the ground in a mess of tar and carapace. Sutai squeaked again and dropped the chain. "Okay! Okay mister, now what do we do? Can you laser it to death now please? It would be so very nice of you!"

Well, they’d managed to get it to the ground, but now what?? It wasn’t like they had anything big to throw at it, and while he wanted this younger Page to gain some confidence in fighting these things, he didn’t want to deny her request.
Well, he couldn’t exactly shoot lasers, but he could definitely make use of his boots. Valhalla leapt up, aiming to come down hard on the youma’s head, or as close to its head as he could manage.
Probably from a combination of wearing it down, tripping it and making it smash its face, and jumping on it, the youma burst into dust, leaving Valhalla to awkwardly try and catch his balance as he fell through the cloud.
He coughed and waved his hand in front of his face as if that would make the dust disperse faster, and then glanced towards the young woman, wanting to make sure she was okay.
“You’re not hurt, are you?” he asked, brushing the dust off his outfit. “Valhalla of Jupiter,” he added, realizing that he hadn’t yet told her his name.

Sutai squeaked as Valhalla literally stomped the life out of the youma. Part of her wanted to scramble up onto a nearby dumpster like the stereotypical woman-who-saw-a-mouse. Rather this was woman-whoo-saw-a-giant-monster, which trumped a rodent any day of the week as far as the Page was concerned. Once the youma had dissipated into the dust from whence it came, Sutai burst into a flurry of bouncing and clapping in Valhalla's honor. "Wah! That was amaaaaazing, Mister Valhalla!" The endless bouncing made the crystals on her outfit knock together with Sutai sounding like a wind chime in a tornado. "You are so very brave and strong and smart! I hope I can be a very good knight just like you! I am Sutai, Page of Polaris and it is so very nice to meet you!" She gave a short curtsy with her bubble skirt and giggled. Were all knights this nice to people? "I am not hurt but thank you so very much for asking. You are not hurt, are you?" Golden eyes turned to concern as she skipped over to examine the knight. Did knights have medical staff or personnel? Did they have a hospital they could go to if they got hurt? Could knights heal other knights? She pondered this as dark little hands scurried over Valhalla's arms. He didn't appear hurt but men did like to hide such things! Guine So sorry for the wait! ;;

”I wouldn’t really consider it amazing,” Valhalla mumbled as he looked the Page over and made sure she was truly okay, only for her to fuss over him as well.
He blinked in surprise and laughed nervously, “I’m fine,” he promised, offering her a small, awkward grin. She was rather rambunctious, but that was okay. It was better than being subdued about things. Kept her on her toes at least... maybe.
As for him being a ‘very good knight’, he just smiled softly and shook his head. It wasn’t to deny or confirm, but he did think it was difficult to decide on what made one a good knight and what made a bad knight.
“You’ll be a fine knight,” he said, instead. “Just keep being yourself and stay out of danger when you can,” he suggested, although he knew better than to think it would be impossible not to get into fights like this.
“I should get going... but if you ever need anything, you can count on me,” he said with another small grin. He didn’t want to linger in one place with her for too long and potentially draw out more youma, or worse... “Will you be okay...?” He didn’t want to just leave her if she didn’t want him to.Lucifer Force No problem!
