Secretly, however, she does want to make at least one good friend who can accept her.

Ayame was born as the youngest of three: two girls and one boy. Ayame, meaning Iris, was thought to have been “the flower of the family”, always so kind and happy, but it would all soon change. While her father and brother were out in the village, the girls were home together, and someone broke into the house. Their mother was killed immediately, but the eldest daughter at least put up a fight before ultimately meeting her fate. At least she brought down the intruder before he could harm Ayame. The six-year old, being taught some puppeteer techniques due to the fact that her father (and only her father; brother, sister, or mother weren’t) was a puppeteer as well, started to preserve her older sister’s body to be changed into a puppet later. When her father and brother came home, the brother took Ayame away from Suzuran’s body while their father continued the preservation process. However, it didn’t go as planned, and instead, their father just made a replica of Suzuran to the last finest detail. The process took nearly three years to complete, and over that period of time, Ayame was becoming paranoid about the perfection of the puppet. By the time their father completed the replica, it truly was perfect, except the eyes. They weren’t exact, and to help keep the rouse that this was supposedly the real Suzuran, he blindfolded the puppet to hide the eyes and just said that it was better than looking at the real Suzuran’s eyes. Ayame agreed, and began some private training with their father to become a puppeteer.
A year or so before Ayame would graduate from the Academy, she suffered from another loss in the family: her brother. This time, it was her brother Daichi, but at least it was natural. Unable to get better from a certain illness, his body shut down and he passed away in his sleep. Again, Ayame’s father created a second puppet, preferring not to make a human puppet out of his son. So, just like he did with Suzuran, a perfect replica was created and blindfolded to hide the lifeless eyes.
However, that wasn’t the only thing that changed over the years. Ayame herself was in for a face-off with death, as she too grew very ill. Her father, however, wasn’t going to lose his precious flower and thus performed a series of operations on his only surviving daughter, and turned her into a puppet as well. Only with this type of process, however, Ayame was forever preserved at the cost of her humanity. After the successful operation, her father tried to teach her some ways of humanity to help her get along with her future allies of the shinobi world. It’s still a work in progress though.
