The grey lioness was chowing down on a downed zebra savagely. The past several days had been frustratingly fruitless hunting for Ieiunium and she was taking out her anger on her meal. Not to mention that it tasted divine after such an enforced fast. Those who had met her under other circumstances might be surprised at the appearance of the savage hunter instead of the gentle, caring lioness. And those who had met her in the uncomfortable situation otherwise known as a pride would probably be shocked entirely. Iei reasoned that she should probably try to overcome her shyness around large groups of people, but that (as with most thoughts unrelated to survival) was a much lower priority at this moment.

He was starving. He had no good huntings lately. Every time he found a good herd, a team of lions from a pride came and chased him away. He stood no chance against more that one or two. The females of the hunting parties gave him hell because they were feeding cubs and he was only feeding himself. It's not like he asked for his life outside of a pride. He just didn't fit in with any he'd ever found so far. He was either too blunt, to mean or just too lazy to join a pride.
Sighing hard as he walked, Shakeat Hashemsh was quietly trying to sniff out a decent place to hunt that was near the den he'd carved himself in a mountain face. Just as he put his head to the wind, he picked up the scent of blood. His mouth watered and, with that, he took off towards the direction of it. He could only smell one other scent mixed in with the blood. Perhaps it was a hyena. He could take one of those.

She was no longer so hungry that filling her stomach blotted out all other thoughts, and the lioness' thoughts turned towards the hunt she had just finished. The zebra had been separated from its herd, lost and lamed. The perfect prey, with no family to help defend itself. In fact, there was a noticeable lack of life in this part of the savannah. Few creatures to hunt, and nearly as few to eat them. She wondered why.
Iei continued her meal, now eating more slowly and delicately, as well as taking the time to start cleaning parts of her fur of excess blood. No reason to be a glutton now that she'd taken the edge off her hunger.

There.
Just ahead of him was a lioness and a good sized Zebra. She was alone, he couldn't smell anyone one else around her. A smirk played on the red lion's muzzle as he crouched low in the grasses, trying his hardest to stay quiet. He didn't want to alert her just yet. What Sha really wanted was to surprise her, tackle her and run her off before stealing her kill.
He prayed to the gods that would help him to do just that. Sneaking up on a hungry lioness wasn't the easiest job in the world. They were usually sharper than males after a kill, more alert. Still, here he tried to sneak up behind her.

Thank all the gods there were that she was no longer wholly focused on hunger. Otherwise she would surely have been too distracted to notice the odd feeling at the back of her neck that usually meant someone was behind her.
As much as she hated having to pause a meal when she was so hungry...some things had to be dealt with immediately. Iei whirled around, zebra blood dripping from her jaws and foreclaws. Her eyes were narrowed as she scanned around, looking for whatever was watching her.
She couldn't hear anything unusual, but there was something in the movement of the grasses that the lioness doubted was due to the wind. Ieiunium snarled wordlessly in the spy's general direction, a silent warning to go away.

The growl made him stop completely, his fur standing on end. Sha had to bite back his own growl in order to stay hidden. It wouldn't be good to have himself found out right now. He was still too far away to pounce her. Charging would just alert her and she'd have time to move, too. Gods, sometimes Sha hated the stupid instincts lions were born with. It made this five hundred times harder than it should be. Anything else and he would have had it by the throat or running off by now, but no. This female had to figure out someone was here.
He laid down on the grass carefully. Now he would be playing the waiting game. Biding his time before he got even closer to her.

Oh great, now the grasses stopped moving. Iei snarled to herself as she contemplated the situation. Some creature was watching her and instead of fleeing when she staked her claim, they had instead settled down to wait.
She was not in the mood to deal with this. She wanted to eat her meal uninterrupted, not have to play some sort of waiting game with a stalker.
"Leave," she hissed at the now-still grasses.

Ahaha, she didn't fall for this. Well, oh well. Maybe he could talk her into giving him a portion. Sighing hard, he rose to his paws and faced her. Well, she wasn't what he was expecting at all. His orange eyes met hers before he moved a little closer. "Why should I leave? You're in my hunting grounds. If anyone should leave it's you." His voice was deep and gravely sounding. He sounded older than he was, but it worked for his build.
Sha was all muscle. He hardly had any fat on him from his recent days without food, but he was stocky in muscles. "Who are you and why are you here?" Direct, blunt questions without any hint of malice. No, he wasn't ready to attack her just yet.

The lioness mentally raised an eyebrow as her stalker revealed himself that simply. With fur like that, she was surprised she hadn't noticed his hiding spot sooner. She was interested, however, to hear that he claimed this land as his territory. What was it with males and ownership anyway? Whatever, he seemed to be solo, else he would have said "our" instead of "my". Which meant that he had no backup out there.
Of course, she didn't either. Which put this into an interesting context.
"So it's your fault there's next to nothing living here?" she asked harshly. Yes, a lion had to eat, but that was no excuse for depleting the prey to a point where the range was virtually deserted.
Oh and he'd asked her a pair of questions. Should she answer? Eh, might as well. After all, once she left this area, no one ever said she had to come back.
"My name is Ieiunium. I'm here because here is where I am." There. Let him make of that what he would.

He rose a brow at her ballsy answers and comments. Well, had she been a male those were fighting words. As it was though, she wasn't, so he didn't fight with women at all. Sighing a little more, the red male just watched this pale female do whatever it was she was doing now that she wasn't eating.
Orange met blue and a smirk drew to his face. "You've got more balls than most of the males who come through." It was a simple statement, one he thought needed to be said, obviously. "No, Ieiunium... It actually isn't my fault. I chased off a male who was living here prior to me and because I did, he chased the herds away. There's still plenty of rabbit and badger to go around, though." He looked to her food, his mouth watering slightly before looking up at her.
"I'm Shakeat Hashemsh." He would let her shorten it however she wanted. However, Sha wouldn't repeat it for her. "Since there's not much here, I think you should share your food. You did kill it on my land."

Well, she wasn't sure if that was a compliment or not. What was it anyway, with males and talking about reproductive organs? Probably something about self-consciousness and asserting themselves. Whatever it was, she was glad that females generally had more sense. But she should probably focus on what he was saying. Now was not the time to lose track of the conversation.
But still, to chase off all the herds because he'd lost the territory? That was utterly ridiculous. The sensible thing, at least in Iei's book, was to team up with a friend or two and take back the range from the lone invader. Not that she was going to suggest that to Shakeat - he might get the idea she was offering to help defend it and that was precisely what the grey lioness was not going to do.
The point of sharing her kill, however, now that she wasn't sure she wanted to concede. Iei could see that the red lion didn't look particularly healthy, she supposed he'd been having a hard time since taking this place and really, what was the point of living here if he couldn't kill anything to eat? But she certainly didn't want to be seen as paying a fee for the use of the range.
"I think you're a pretty piss poor hunter, asking me to share mine with you," she retorted. Honestly, had he no pride?

This woman was going to be a difficult one, he had a feeling. The red star pelted male didn't even know if he wanted to deal with her honestly. Frowning to himself and rolled his eyes and let her say what she wanted. Piss poor hunter? Hardly. He was just lazy. Sha didn't want to track down a herd, stalk it for hours or days and then make a move. He was hungry now and she had food. Flicking his ears this way and that, the male shifted his weight from paw to paw.
"Whatever. Are you sharing or not?" He asked, just watching her with a little sigh. Seriously, she needed to stop jawing and throw him a leg or something. Meat was meat, however much she was willing to share. He wasn't about to turn his nose to it.
Pride? He'd lost that a long time ago. One learned to have no pride after getting with a couple hyenas to hunt for food. He'd helped them with their litter of pups and he got himself a good meal out of the deal. That was while he was younger, though. Pride wasn't important to him. Living was. Living equaled food. Food in which she had and she was on his land. If he had to con her to get a bite to eat, so be it. He'd be the bad guy. Not like he cared what she thought. They had no life together. They had only just exchanged names, so why bother caring? She'd be passing through after she was done eating, he was sure. All the rogues did after meeting him.

"No," she answered firmly. What was it with males, that they seemed to think a lioness existed only to feed and pamper them? She wasn't doing his work for him, not at all! The last time she'd shared her kill with someone was with her own cubs, by the gods!
Iei also resented that this single lion, alone, laid claim to this entire territory, called it his land. If he could really be said to be in possession, it must've been because anyone with sense and skill preferred a more plentiful area. She didn't care to be told what to do, and had no patience for lazy fools.

Her answer was blunt and firm and didn't surprise him. Rolling his eyes at that and just watched her, frowning a little. Oh gods, this was going to be even harder than he thought it was going to be. She was clearly no pushover. How the hell did he do that?
"Then drag your meal somewhere else and go away. Don't come back here," he said, glaring at her. He really didn't want her to go with the meal, because he was hungry, but if she wouldn't share what else could he do.mouselet Nooot how I thought this would go. XD Sha, what are you doing?

Honestly, what was it with this lion? Iei supposed he must be pretty desperate, as any other sensible creature would have given up by now. It was her kill. She wasn't sharing. He laid some sort of tentative claim on these lands which she refused to acknowledge. And now he insisted that she leave this place with her kill since she wouldn't share.
Truly, his maturity seemed about the same level as her own cubs. Which was pathetic in a grown lion and nothing at all to be proud of.
"I'm sorry, I thought I was dealing with an adult lion," the grey lioness replied sarcastically. "It seems that I was mistaken and you're nothing but an oversized cub, dependant on others to hunt his meals for him, childishly territorial even though he cannot possibly hope to hold what he claims and rude beyond all understanding or forgiveness." Her tone became sharper as she spoke and her dark tail whipped angrily behind her.
"Why don't you go sit in time out while I finish my meal?" she offered him, treating him like the child he acted as. Then, almost surprised by her own daring, the lioness turned back to her dinner.
