If you're reading this thread, it probably means you want to apply to be a part of Catalytic Productions comic studio. Hooray! *throws confetti* Read on to find out how to apply.

The applications process goes like this: post in this thread, or PM the Catalytic Productions account, with your application form. (Found below). We'll get back to you as soon as possible with the next step, which is a simple aptitude test for your chosen position. If you applied for more than one, we'll send you the next test after you complete the first one. You can apply for as many positions as you think you can handle.

If we take a while in getting back to you, don't bug us about it. A tactful reminder every so often is appreciated, since we've probably just lost track. (Ah, to have enough applications to lose track of x3). If we decide not to accept you, we will do our best to provide you with constructive criticism on your test and give a decent basis for the decision. You can feel free to apply for a different position instead, or to reapply for the same one at a later stage.

Now before you fill the form in, there's just a few things we expect from our members or things that you should be aware of, to make sure we're on the same page for the future. ^^

  • We don't offer any kind of payment for being a part of the studio, be it gold or real money. We make comics for the sake of enjoyment and experience, not for profit (at least at this stage). If you're happy to collaborate with us on that basis, then please read on :3

  • We expect regular activity from our members once they join. What does that involve? Things like posting in the guild and chatting with readers, providing updates to comics in progress, as well as working on the comics themselves. We understand when real-life issues can make working on internet stuff impossible, but in that case, just let us know. Above all don't simply go AWOL and stop responding to messages, because that's very frustrating for us.

  • You should also be able to keep to deadlines. For the moment these are mainly for us, to make sure work gets done on a regular basis, but later we may have to produce content on a tight schedule for our readers.

  • Please be prepared to give studio work an equal or higher priority to any other personal projects you might have underway. If you have several other artistic commitments that would take priority over studio work, this isn't for you.

  • Please don't come to us hoping to find an artist who will draw your personal project for you, or a writer to develop it. We create our comics together from scratch so that we're all equally invested in them; if you want to find a collab partner for an existing project, try looking in the Comic Creators forum.

And now if you're happy with all of that, here's the application form!!

Name: (Real name, username, nickname, we're not fussy. Whatever you want to be called. Though nothing along the lines of Lord and Master or anything, because we still pwn you x3)

Position you would like to request: (Positions and their availabilities are listed in the next post. Make sure you read to find out what positions are open before you fill this in.)

About: (Tell us a bit about yourself. How long have you been writing/drawing/editing? What kinds of comics, if any, do you like to read? What makes you want to apply here? Stuff like that.)

Gallery or Example: (Whatever you need to show us to show that you can do your requested position well. For example, a DA account, a fanfiction.net account, a website you designed. If we like what we see, we will ask you to produce a more specific example, e.g. a comic script, or some character art using a description we give you).

N.B.: Please do not post actual images in the thread. Have some consideration for those with slower computers and link to them.

Contact info: (Your preferred and most reliable method(s) of contact. We will work with anything from dA note to Skype, but you must give us an email address along with these. It's proven to be the best way of contacting people in the past, and it's useful for other things like our blog and Project Manager. So list whatever methods of contact you like here, but an email address must be amongst them.)

Other: (Whatever other random stuff you feel like adding ^^)

CHARACTER DESIGNER - FULL! Like the job title implies, a character designer will design the most important characters for a comic and the outfits they wear. We've recently merged the Character Artist and Costume Designer positions together, so now, anyone who applies to this position will be expected to have both costume-drawing and character-drawing skills. You will need to be able to competently draw characters of both genders; a variety of races, statures, body types; and of course, costumes of all sorts. We've got a few applicants lined up for this position, so we're not accepting any more for the moment.

COLOURIST - WANTED! We are on the lookout for a colourist for our short one-shot gag strips, as well as someone who will be able to do shading and colouring for our comic Butterfly's Delight (see below). Ask in the thread for more details!

COMIC ARTIST - NEEDED! At the moment we most need an artist for our short ten-page comic Butterfly's Delight. The comic is rather sinister, so we need someone whose style will fit the subject matter. But in general terms, we're also looking for any artists of decent skill to draw some short comics of around 10-20 pages, and also some humorous gag strips of a few panels. We love to see comics drawn in a variety of styles, so the more unique your style is, the better!

EDITOR - WANTED! These are people who will look over the comic scripts and un-inked pages, and critique things like flow, pacing, dialogue, panel layout, speech bubble placing, grammar errors, and more - anything that you think needs improvement. Applicants for this position will need to know what they're talking about, so you will have to have read a lot of comics of different kinds, preferably have drawn/contributed to at least one yourself, and have solid English skills.

LETTERIST - NEUTRAL Couldn't be simpler: the person in charge of the lettering for each comic. A letterist would need to have access to various fonts and be able to decide which is the most appropriate for sound effects, headings, dialogue and so on, bearing in mind the genre of the comic. Letterists also need to be able to draw speech bubbles and decide on the best placing for them. We have two letterists, but both hold other positions in the studio, so an extra one or two would help ease the workload.

TONER - NEEDED! No, not the stuff you put in your photocopier. A toner (and I'm not even sure if that's the name for it, but that's what we've named it) is someone who does shading, shadowing and/or screentoning on the comic, and basically turns it into a polished final version. Bonus points if you can do inking as well. We are currently in dire need of someone to do screentones for our main project, Domino Disaster. Please apply within!!

WEBSITE DESIGNER - FULL! As our current 'webmaster' in charge is of the opinion that she can handle the entire workload of the site by herself, we're not currently in the market for web assistants x3 But keep checking back in case she gets overloaded changes her mind.

WRITER - FULL! A writer is someone who writes up a script for the artists to draw, either based on their own idea or by developing one that has been suggested by another member of the studio. For the moment we're closing this position as we have quite a few writers working on projects - but no artists to draw them!
