The room was generally quiet, save for the occasional hum and pounding from the forges nearby. She didn't mind it much, accepting it as music to her ears. It was a part of them, a part of all of them, and showing distaste for something they all shared...well. That just seemed so unnecessarily negative to her. The decently-sized table near the center of the room was surprisingly clear for once, devoid of miscellaneous crafting materials, half-finished schematics, and incense ash. Today there was just a centerpiece, a box, and an empty teacup.
With a fresh kettle of tea on to steep, Ylaria settled into her most comfortable chair, pleased to have a moment's pause after the hectic schedule imposed on her by the previous week's class. It never occurred to her how comfortable a routine could be, but as she found herself returning to the embrace of ritual, it felt like nothing could be more right.
She sighed happily, taking in the intermingling scents of light incense and warming tea, and reached to remove a small, velvet-lined box from the corner of her table. Within it was a meticulously crafted gift that had still not managed to find its way to its recipient - a pity, really. They were far overdue for a good chat.
"I do hope the guests are faring better this week," she mused aloud to the little box, turning it over in her hands.

There was a merry smile on a certain horseman's face, not that there wasn't usually one anyway- but this was the I-smell-delicious-tea smile, and it was mostly reserved for one person in particular. In fact, the delicious aroma of this particular blend of tea was how he had found her in the first place; Alke had simply followed his nose until it led him to Ylaria's quarters, boldly sauntered in, and seated himself, waiting for her to pour him a cup.
It was a wonder she had been patient with him, considering his attitude, but as a result, Ylaria was one of the few that Alke felt he could relax around.
Today he'd popped in to visit- if she asked, it was because he'd smelled brewing tea, though that most certainly did not explain the fact that he had brought gifts. In a small box he carried were little cakes he'd flirted with one of the kitchenmaids to acquire, cakes that would perfectly complement Ylaria's tea- it was almost as if he'd come to see her on purpose, instead of by chance.
"I take it you've met the little pests," he called out, walking in without bothering to knock. "Talking to yourself, Ylaria? Or have you been missing my company?"
With a roguish wink he set the box of treats down on the table and made himself comfortable on the chair opposite, grinning widely at her.
