She was contemplating what to do. Mwako'Nakama hadn't left the Dawnwalkers too long ago, and she was already questioning what she had done. Sure, it hadn't been the firekin sands but it was still sand. Sighing, she tred over the dirt and grime through the underbrush of the area she was in. She wasn't sure which direction she should be going, home, the firekin, or try somewhere new.

But what was truly out in the world that could appeal to her?

She was hard, fiery, but unsure of what to do.

So she walked on and out into a clear open grassland, ears flicking to pick up any sounds that came her way.

Akane'Serkan Enyo had left the loud mouth male behind. She had grown tired of his senseless argument. It wasn't worth her effort to deal with a moody male she didn't know. Let him go howl at bushes, Akane muttered under her breath.

It had been days since she's last seen that lion. Who knew where he was now. For that matter where was she? Akane looked wearily around. She had no idea what lions lived around here. The land was becoming more inhospitable. Should she turn around or keep going? Perhaps she should never have left what she knew. The dark red lioness gave a shutter. No she couldn't have stayed. Her whole family was dead, and the murderers could come back at any time to finish her off. One lone lioness was no match.

She paused to look around. The land to one side was definitely becoming desert, and she did not want to set foot that way. On the edge of yellow, her eyes caught a hint of movement. Was it food? It blended in so well whatever it was. Akane went closer carefully. It wasn't until she was very close that she realized it was a large, tawny lioness. A big lioness.

As she walked, Nakama's ears perked forwards, then to the side. Silver eyes glanced around the grassland, and saw something dark approaching. As it got closer, it too halted. Her body tensed, muscles ready for any strike that came at her. She let out a growl from her throat, let her claws reveal themselves and turned to face whomever this stranger was.

Though the tall blades off grass Nakama could see black and red, and for a brief moment wondered if it was a firekin, but no, why would one be so far out of the pride when they were of true colors?

"Who are you?" she said, demanded, "show yourself to me."

She hesitated. There was no way she could hide even in these tall grasses. Besides it wouldn't help as she had already been spotted or sensed. Akane watched her. She looked vicious. Would she attack if she showed herself, or if she didn't? It was so hard to tell. Finally she stepped where she would be a bit more visible.

"Apologies, I didn't mean to startle you. I am Akane." There she had done as the lioness had asked. Cautiously she watched the other. Now was the moment of truth. "Who are you?" Akane tried to sound bolder than she felt.

"I am Mwako'Nakama," se wanted to say she was firekin, which she was, but she wasn't allowed home, least, not yet. She hd to find a way. "For a moment, I thought you were kin, because of your," Nakama waved a paw up and down at the lioness' coloration, "pelt colors. They are like my home pride. BUt, where is your warrior spirit? Surely you cannot be born of the fire and dunes when crouching so low, hold your head high," Nakama said with a nod.

"For one who hides alone, you should not be by yourself, but seek kin that you can hold a home with, that can support you if you cannot defend your own being, don't you agree?"

Akane was taken a bit back. This lioness thought she belonged to her pride? As if looking for the first time, the deep red lioness looked at herself. Self-conciously she lifted her head. "I'm sorry? What is a warrior spirit?" Talk of the lioness' home pride made her heart ache. Akane shook her head violently.

"I have no choice Mwako'Nakama." There was pain in her voice. "My family, my pride is all dead. I have no home anymore." She might not have much experience living on her own, but she was going to give it her all. Akane looked out to gather control of herself again. Her eyes turned back to the lioness. "Why are you out here?"

"A warrior spirit is what lies within you, what makes you strong, physically, mentally, what gives you strength in any time it is needed. It is what makes you who you are, everyone has one, you need only to find it within yourself," she said with a reassuring nod. Flicking her tail, eyeing this Akane, Nakama shook her head.

"You always have a choice," though with the next words spoken, Nakama knew she had to choose her own words carefully. "Great loss is tragic, but it will make you stronger, can help you with the future. It can help you, if you let the memories lift your heart," she said with a soft smile.

Why was she out here?

Nakama looked to the sky, sighing.

"I've lost my family too...though they are very much alive, as far as I know. I was not allowed...to stay with them, you see," her eyes settled to Akane's, "I was not the proper vision to be able to remain. No true reds, nor blacks upon my pelt, I am the color of the sun, but not the fire reds that coats the others, not the fire like in my heart. They could not see it, so I had to go."

Akane looked as though she fit there though.

"If you wish to find a home, strength, new kin, they can teach you, if you are willing to learn. I would suspect no less you would be brought into their ranks if proven yourself."

She was listening, but she wasn't sure how to respond. Was it this spirit that allowed her to live when so many others perished? Did that then mean her family wasn't strong? Akane looked up at the sky a moment. She wasn't even sure she knew her warrior spirit. "How... how do you find your warrior spirit?"

Choice? What choice was there? She knew if she stayed at her old home she'd have been killed eventually. One lioness was no match for that hoard. Then she blinked. Had been leaving a choice? Just as she could have stayed and accepted her fate to die. It made her shiver. She chose to live. "I don't understand. They are sad memories. How could they lift my heart?"

Akane felt a moment of sympathy, but only a moment. At least her family was still alive. That was more than she could say. But to be separated from them? "They made you leave? Only because you did not match their vision of color?" She wasn't sure what to make of that. What family, or pride, would do that? Hers obviously; what reason for? Suddenly she felta burning need to know.

"Why did they do that? What was the reasoning?" Her yellow eyes bored into Nakama. She longed to belong somewhere, but she wasn't sure this was the pride for her.

"You find it as your journey guides you forward, when you've found it, or it has found you, you'll know and feel it inside. It is different for everyone, so there is no true path to tell another each step to take. You'll know what is best," she watched this female, with time, and strength and perseverance, she'd do well, Nakama thought, or at least hoped.

It was nice to see a female with strength and a desire for it.

"By rising above the sadness, you gain strength, so while the memories are still with you, they will help you succeed by overcoming what once was," she knew it all too well.

"It is part of the pride culture, there is much to it, but I did not match the fire reds, blacks and whites, I was too much of the sun, for that, my strength was not enough."

One day, she'd hope to prove otherwise.

"Let your spirit grow stronger as you continue on, and you will find what you desire most."

Akane's complete attention was focused on what Nakama said. There was something important here, but she wasn't sure she'd truly understand until later. She would remember it though. Finding something on her own she was familiar with. Look how far she'd come by herself already.

As much as she despised her family for abandoning her, she did not want to forget the lesson they'd taught her. That in itself would help her grow stronger. Never again would she place herself at another's mercy. Akane lifted her head with determination.

"I thank you for the wisdom you have shown me. I hope that your strength becomes more." She nodded then turned and walked away from the lioness. What she desired most. She liked the sound of that.
