((Day 2: Kumiko))

Malodore had found the previous day's experiment with Diplomacy to be intriguing, but also a bit tiring - while it was observant by nature, tracking delicate social and diplomatic patterns was not its forte. Today, it would try something a bit different...

Everything available seemed unusual to it, some activities particularly intriguing, some not. The most intriguing was also the most complicated - a game of scents, symbols, and symbolism. Thus, the plague doctor made its way to the appropriate pavilion, seating itself attentively before its young instructor.

The young Horseman's movements were elegant and not-quite-effortless; there was something tense in his stance, a tension that was absent in the older Horsemen Malodore had seen. He seemed friendly enough, though - perhaps he was just concerned about doing everything properly for their guests?

The Horseman laid out a selection of tiles, each lightly scented. The goal, it seemed, was to determine which scents matched each other, and then set up blocks in a corresponding patterns. These patterns were apparently symbolic of chapters from a Human World work... somewhat surprising, given the contempt most Horseman seemed to have for humans.

Hm.

The plague doctor carefully picked up each tile, sniffing delicately. The scents were very subtle, but it was pretty sure that the last four tiles were all the same, while the first one was different. It carefully stacked up the pattern, then looked to the Horseman for direction.

The Horseman surveyed Malodore's pattern, then set up another set of blocks... apparently the correct answer. Hrm. So there was a difference in the last two scents after all... still, it had gotten three out of five correct, and created the pattern called Usugumo.

... Not that that meant much to it, but hey. It bowed pleasantly to its instructor and rose to leave. That had been an interesting exercise. Very introspective and calming. It approved.

((1-5-5-2-4: Malodore got the first three correct but missed the last two; matched existing pattern.

((Etiquette))

Malodore had ventured outside the perfectly ordered halls, and discovered a perfectly manicured lawn. How on earth did the clan of Conquest keep everything so... so perfect? The amount of labor that must go into it all was mind-boggling, but Malodore had yet to actually see a laborer, as such. Unless the birds before it kept the grass trimmed by eating it?

Ah, yes - the birds. Adara, apparently. They had long necks and beaks and were rather disorienting. From the shoulders up, they bore a resemblance to plague doctors, at least in silhouette. But it should have a good handle on avian language, being partly avian itself... shouldn't it?

Malodore walked up to a bird and gave it the best bow it could manage, but its unfamiliar clothing tugged at it and it stopped before going as deep as usual. The bird seemed to detect this, and turned up its beak after bobbing its head. So far so good, though the Adara seemed unimpressed by the whole affair.

Snack time... Malodore took the offered cracker, flattening its palm and holding it out to the Adara. The bird took it, carefully, tilting its head back before beginning to chew with surprising gusto. Crumbs fell out. It was all rather messy.

And then it started choking. Oh, oh dear. Malodore stepped forward, unsure if it should be doing some kind of emergency maneuver, but then the bird puffed up and reared its neck back, horking up a blob of crumbs and spit. Ewww.

The Horseman hurriedly steered Malodore away, though not before it picked up a feather dropped by the Adara in its throes. Well. That had been rather uninspiring.

((Performing Arts))

Malodore had only danced in a school dance context, never in a performing one. It wasn't intimidated, not exactly, but it had no illusions about its own physical prowess. Failure was always an option.

Still, at least it had the classic clothing Invictus had allowed it to borrow, from the closet of the Heir's Lady Mother herself! Nobody could find fault with its attire, it was quite certain. (Except for the hat. Which was not remotely matching in any way other than color. This did not matter, though, because it was The Hat; it being on Malodore's head was enough to make it match, in the plague doctor's opinion.)

Malodore poked through the box of props and came up with a fan. Fair enough; it knew how to use such things for their practical if not their artistic purpose. Maybe it was to cool it down should it become overheated during the dance? Given all the layers it was wearing, that was a distinct possibility...

Taking a deep breath to calm itself, Malodore stepped forward under the attending Horsewoman's calculating eye. The music began. It began to move -

Its hoof caught on a bit of unfamiliar trailing fabric. It flailed. The fan did nothing to help as the plague doctor tumbled to the ground. The music stopped.

"Ah..."

The Horsewoman didn't even have to speak. Just her eloquent gaze was enough. Ducking its head sheepishly, Malodore returned the fan and fled the pavilion, moving as carefully as it could to avoid another fall.

((k-k-kumiko~))

Malodore had returned for a little aromatherapy practice, as it were. The plague doctor sat down cross-legged before the young Horseman, carefully inhaling the fragrance off of each tile before placing them in a pattern. It then nodded to the Horseman to show it the correct sequence. Was it close this time?

((3-1-4-1-2: this matches the pattern Kabagiri~))

The Horseman smiled, then revealed a pattern rather different from what Malodore had made. Ah, well. At least the pattern it had set up had a name: Kagabiri; 'Flares'. Pondering the nature of this odd Human World text, Malodore left the pavilion.
