Samril was eager to be out in the world and hunting dragons. Though, the Dovaa wasn't hunting for sport. He was secretly hoping that he could befriend a dragon and bring it home, not as a pet, but as a good friend and they could live happily ever after together! Sure, he'd been told repeatedly that it would never happen, but "never" was a word that Samril didn't believe in. It could happen and he'd prove it!
And so the happy-go-lucky Dovaa was searching the forest for a Ysali dragon, the smallest and, therefore, hopefully friendliest dragons. But Samril had been wandering the forest for hours with no luck and even this happy boy was getting tired.
With a long sigh, Samril sat at the base of a large tree to rest for a few moments. After all, he'd been walking and walking with no success. Perhaps if he was still for a few moments, a dragon would come up to him! But the long, tiring walk wore on the young Dovaa too much and as he was still for a few moments, he quickly drifted off to sleep.

It was some time before Samril awoke with a start. He'd fallen asleep!! Blinking, the Dovaa stood and stretched. It seemed he hadn't napped too long as it wasn't dark yet, though it would be before too much longer. With a sigh, Samril turned in the direction he'd come from, hoping to get home, or at least out of the forest, before dark.
The young Dovaa walked maybe ten feet when he suddenly ran into the thing he'd been searching for: a Ysali dragon! Both Samril and the dragon both seemed caught by surprise by the encounter. Samril recovered and smiled, softly speaking to the dragon. "Hello there. I don't want to hurt you. I just want to be friends. Do you want to be friends? I like friends."
The Ysali hissed, its tail flicking. It was clearly scared, being alone as it was. And now there was this other thing that was not a Ysali.
Samril slowly took a step forward, still talking to the dragon.
That step was all it took for the dragon to go on the offensive. It launched itself at the young boy, who gave a startled yelp of surprise. He did his best to dodge the Ysali's attacks while still trying to explain that he just wanted to be friends.
All thoughts of friends went out the window when the dragon managed to land a rather painful bite on Samril's calf. "Owwww! That's it! If you don't want to be friends, you could've just said so!!" He got no reply though and so started taking to attacking to keep the dragon from hurting him completely.
Caught up in the battle, Samril began to attack more and more, each time holding back less and less until he was attacking at full strength constantly. Fresh from a nap, he was strong and ready for the fight while it seemed that the Ysali was tired at the start and exhausted before long.
Before long, a lucky strike on the behalf of Samril ended up with the dragon collapsing at his feet. Startled, the boy quickly knelt by the Ysali's side, but it was too late. He'd done too much damage and the dragon was soon just a pile of bones.
"I'm sorry... I'm so so sorry... I only wanted to be friends. I didn't mean to..." The boy's words were soft as he fought back tears. He really hadn't meant to hurt the dragon. But he had, nonetheless.
Though it was almost dark already, Samril found a spot of soft dirt near the base of a nearby tree and, using his hands, started to dig. Before long, he had a small hole dug, dirt all over his hands and face. Gently, he moved the bones into the hole, tears cutting paths through the dirt on his face.
The small grave filled back in, Samril patted the earth covering the dragon's remains one last time. "Sorry." Then, standing, he headed through the darkness towards home.
