Corvus sat flipping through a gaming magazine. Nothing overly impressive inside and he was feeling a bit disappointed with the issue. His gold eyes flicked from line to line, his helmet lying nearby on a couch. He sighed and tossed the magazine on the table bored. He was tempted to go boot the computer and go play something but there was always the faint hope that something more interesting would happen.

Mana wondered if she should try picking up some new games. She had read rumors somewhere about a new trading card game, but she wasn't sure if she was interested. It seemed to have more niche appeal than anything else, and it wasn't her niche. She probably wouldn't be able to find anyone to play with anyway. What was the point of playing a game if you were the only one playing it? Was there anything she could play alone? Would I want to play alone if I could?

She sighed and made her way to the shop. She was feeling lonely, and she hated that, and the shop was usually good for finding something entertaining to do, even if it was watching someone's argument.

Corvus looked towards the door and saw the green and purple femme slip in. He blinked and rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't seeing things and had to admit to himself that the girl did glow slightly. He pushed himself off the couch and made his way over to her.

"Hi." he managed to get out. "I hope I'm not interrupting or anything, but uh...I noticed you from over there and I wanted to say hi." he finished with a blush realizing he sounded like an idiot. "So...hi." he mentally kicked himself and wished the ground would swallow him. "I...I'm Corvus."

As she walked in, a stranger walked up to her. Briefly, she went through her memories, trying to figure out if she knew this noodle or why he might have some reason to talk to her. Is he a customer? Have I seen him before? I don't think I remember seeing him, I mean, I would think I remembered seeing him, right? Maybe not. Oh, this is going to be so embarrassing. Mana's glowing lips spread a little in a nervous smile, even as she felt warmth on her own cheeks. The stranger who had come to greet her was kinda cute, and it seemed he was just that--a stranger. At least, he hadn't said anything yet to imply that she was supposed to know him.

Her only comfort was that he seemed as nervous as she did. "Hi," she said. She stuck out a paw. "I'm Mana. It's nice to meet you, Corvus." She flashed him a larger smile, willing it to be less nervous.

Corvus took the outstretched paw and shook it. "Nice to meet you. Um..so what brings you to the shop today? You don't have to tell me though...I'm just curious. Umm..." he sighed. He had no idea why he'd walked over to talk to this girl. He felt absolutely foolish. "Maybe you'd let me get you a drink or something." he managed. "If you're not busy. Cuz maybe we could talk...you look really interesting and I'd kinda like to get to know you." he coughed and wished he was wearing his helmet as he felt himself start to blush.

Mana shook his hand back. An unfamiliar feeling of unease began to grow in her, coupled with mortification. She'd felt enough strong emotions to recognize an emotion she was picking up from someone else. I'm glad I'm only mildly empathic! "Oh, um, I'm not really here for any reason, really. I just didn't have anything else to do. I just got off work," she added. "And I thought I'd come here and find something to do." She tried smiling again. "I'm not at all busy right now. Maybe we could play a game or something? Do you play games?"

"Oh? What do you do?" he asked motioning towards a table where they could sit down and be more comfortable. "I myself am a slacker and don't have a job...I know it's pathetic, and I really should, but...okay fine I don't have an excuse." he smiled back at her.

His ears perked up and his tail wagged a bit. "I love games! What kind in particular."

Mana sat down at the table, grateful to feel his feelings of nervousness begin to subside a little. "I work at a game store. Traditional games, so far as 'traditional' can be used to describe them. Card games, board games, game books, racks and racks of miniatures and buckets of dice, that sort of thing. It's not much of a job, but hey, it's an income, and it keeps the 'rents off my back. Well, it would if they were pushing for me to get a job." She realized suddenly how difficult that might be to explain. Ah well. Maybe he wouldn't ask.

Her grin grew. "Me too! I like card games and tabletop roleplaying for the most part. I've been maybe considering getting into video games, but I don't know anyone who plays a lot of them and can teach me."

He nodded listening semi-fascinated. "That sounds like a great place to work. Lots of fun. I bet you could have some really great conversations with the patrons, you know the ins and outs of games. Least it works in my head. I'd love to work at a game store, stand around and debate stuff with the customers..." he sighed. "Probably get himself into more trouble than I'm worth." he chuckled.

"I've actually done some reading on tabletop stuff. Seems interesting, complicated as hell though, least to me the untried rookie." he paused and blinked. "You'd...wanna play...?" he schooled his features from grinning like an idiot. "I play...a lot...no not a lot! Sometimes. it's a hobby...my family plays...you know...casually." he knew that sounded all sorts of stupid, but couldn't help it, and that was just how it was gonna have to lay.

"Eh, sometimes I have conversations with the patrons. The other day I overheard a couple people wondering if Robo Rally had ever been reprinted, and we had a long conversation about that." She smiled at the memory. Another game on her mental list of ones to play. "Tell you what, I'll tell you if there's ever a job opening there?" She leaned over to pat him on the shoulder, then hesitated. Would it make him nervous if a casual acquaintance patted him on the shoulder? Especially if his nervousness earlier was, as she suspected, caused by some sort of...attraction to her? She decided to pat him on the shoulder anyway. Not to do so now that she had started would send the wrong signal.

"Yeah, tabletop games can be complicated at first, but you eventually get into the rhythm. It just takes a while. The trick is to find a group of gamers who are patient enough to help you through your first few games and explain everything to you." She felt his enthusiasm for the subject of games grow with the mention of video games. So! A video gamer. Her own excitement grew. "Well, games are a hobby of mine, too, and I'm always interested in getting in on new games. I'd love to play! I'll probably be horrible at it, though."

He blushed just slightly when she pat him on the shoulder. "I'd...really like that, get me out of the house some." he said with a slight cough and regained his composure, trying to look sauve and casual...yeah right! Nerds did not pull of cool...but maybe she'd find it attractive anyway? Oh who was he trying to kid! He felt pretty sure he'd be on the floor soon when her big jock boyfriend walked in and unseated him. Cute, seemingly nerdy girls always had huge jock boyfriends. Tradition demanded it. He frowned slightly mentally...where had that come from? Probably the overractive imagination he'd gotten from his mother.

"I'm sure you can't be that bad. I'd bet you'd be great, just have to get you into the right sort of game. Wouldn't want to overwhelm you. Gaming is an art as much as anything." his eyes darted off to the side as if he was reviewing what he'd said...Sounded good to him and let rolled with it.

"Then I'll be sure to tell you, Corvus. That is, if I can contact you somehow? E-mail, maybe?" She didn't have a computer of her own, but she could easily borrow one from someone else at the House to check her e-mails. It seemed like the best option, and surely a gamer like him would have access to a computer for e-mail and gaming. Video games are all on the computer anyway, aren't they? But that wasn't right, was it? After all, a couple of her housemates had consoles, and those weren't computers... I've got a lot to learn, she thought.

"Yeah, I heard the Supreme Court finally made a ruling on that. I never really understood the argument against it. I mean, video games are like books and movies combined? Except you choose how things go down? So like a movie version of a choose-your-own-adventure book. What sort of games are there?"

He nodded. "I've got one...well several. Need a back up to catch all the spam that goes out." he said. "Easier than trying to sort through what's good and what's the latest herbal supplement for my..." he trailed off. "Well you know...junk they advertise through email..." he coughed and scribbled on a napkin.

"Here's my primary." he said passing it over to her. He twisted his mouth slightly thinking about an answer to her questions. "Sort of. There are games that give you more control than others, but honestly, moral choice systems always lead you to the same ending, yes they may trigger different happenings throughout the game, but endings are always pretty concrete. Well there are shooters, role-playing games, puzzle, old style arcade, platformers, and the list could really go on and on."

Mana nodded and picked up the napkin. She ripped it in half and wrote her email address on the other half before passing it to him. "This is my...well, it's my only account, to be honest. Just so you don't think it's spam or something." She smiled at the comment about spam. "Most of what I get is political emails or whines from social networking sites to go back to them because they're feeling under-appreciated or something. It's annoying, but to be honest, I'm too lazy to unsubscribe myself from their emails."

It didn't take Mana long to get a bit lost in the list. "I'm not sure what sort of game I'd like," she admitted. "I have a bad feeling that if I started playing some shooter, some of my veteran housemates would get into arguments about the mechanics or start leaning over my shoulder and telling me what to do." And that was the best case scenario. She didn't want to accidentally trigger PTSD. So far as she knew, none of the ex-military at the House suffered PTSD, but she didn't want to find out the hard way. "Really, anything you think would be good for someone new to gaming? Actually, the roleplaying games sound like fun. Or at least familiar territory."

Corvus chuckled. "I don't know what's worse, politicians begging for money, or social networks whining you don't love them enough. I still do believe that despite what they think there are other ways to be social." he glanced around and then smiled at her mischievously. "Unless I've managed to sleep log on to a chat site. You're not some 40 year old fat man from Florida's avatar are you?" he said playfully.

He nodded a bit. "Ah, you live with a bunch of those. That's no good for your first time, you just get frustrated and don't have any fun." He bit the inside of his mouth as he thought. "First time RPG...hmmm...probably best to start you out on something old school..." he looked back at her. "Computer or console, do you think?"
