I have heard a lot of rumors that pain can accompany losing your virginity. Is this true? If so, I'm kind of wary, well, more so than I already am, about having sex. It's not like I'm a prude or anything, just a gigantic wuss about pain...

Sex can hurt, but it doesn't have to. Pain during sex is usually due to the woman being too dry, too nervous, too tense, and/or not fully in the mood. Those things can happen at any age and regardless of how many times a woman has had sex. But it's especially common for women to be dry, nervous, tense, and not fully aroused their first time. That doesn't mean the girl has to feel pain her first time though. If she is too dry, she can use a store bought lubricant. If she is nervous or tense, she can wait until she is more comfortable. If she is not fully aroused, she can engage in more foreplay. So while those things can all cause pain, they are also pretty easy to fix, and the pain is completely avoidable in almost every single case. So why do so many people feel pain their first time even though pain is avoidable for almost every single woman? Well, a lot of girls don't realize that the pain is avoidable. They think that the first time is supposed to hurt. They think it has to hurt. They think they just have to suffer through it. So they don't even try to avoid the pain, then they go off and tell their friends that sex hurts! So if anyone ever tells you that sex has to hurt the first time, that it is supposed to hurt the first time, or that it always hurts the first time, they don't know what they're talking about! While pain during sex certainly does happen, it's almost always avoidable and therefore not something you have to worry too much about. If you are ever well lubricated, relaxed, comfortable, in the mood, yet still feeling pain, then talk to a doctor about it. While it's not as common, sometimes infections or other issues down there can cause pain during intercourse. xChibi Cannibalx Losing yer virginity hurts, yes The p***s has to break or stretch out the lil flap of skin But theyre shouldnt be pain every time you have sex Like Lorien said :3 That is not true. Reread my post and check out the link that I posted again because it sounds like you misunderstood. Sex does not have to hurt, even the first time. Pain during sex (yes, even the first time) is usually due to the girl being too dry, too tense, too nervous, and/or not turned on enough. All of those issues can be fixed pretty easily, which means that most women can have pain-free sex, even their very first time and even if they have never inserted anything into their v****a before. The "little flap of skin" that you're thinking of is the hymen. People used to think that the hymen stays intact until a girl has sex, that the hymen breaks when the girl has sex the first time, and that there is a lot of pain and blood when it breaks. Now we know that's not quite how it works. The hymen is not some vaginal guardian that proves virginity until broken down during the first intercourse. It's folds of mucous tissue. The tissue can tear, stretch, or wear down even if a girl hasn't had sex. Or it can also appear to be unchanged even after she had sex for the first time. Or it can tear even though she's had sex many times before. So you can't tell whether or not a girl is a virgin just by looking at her hymen. Even her doctor can't tell just by looking at her, unless she's been pregnant or has an STD. If the hymen tears or stretches, there can be some pain and/or bleeding. But most women have little to no pain or bleeding even if the hymen does tear or stretch, and any pain or bleeding doesn't have anything to do with being a virgin. So there is no part of your body that has to be broken in order for you to have sex, and you're not doomed to feel pain or to bleed during your first time. Most women do not bleed their first time, and most women can have a pain-free first time.

Well, for me it was, but that was due to the before mentioned nervous/tense/etc., and due to the fact the boyfriend hadn't done it in a while due to a health scare and because he wasn't umm... 'fully ready'.

xChibi Cannibalx So now i have a question... I wasnt tense, i was wet, and everything else needed for it not to hurt, so why did my first time hurt? D: I can't say for sure since there are a few possibilities, but I'd say that dryness and/or tensing up are the two most likely culprits. Since you thought sex had to hurt, it's possible that that expectation of pain made you tense up even if you were comfortable with everything else that was happening. Sometimes a woman isn't as lubricated as she thinks she is either, and tensing up can interfere with the production of a woman's natural lubrication.

I have a question as well...Could a reason for feeling pain be because the guy is "larger" in that area?

Kit_Kitter I have a question as well...Could a reason for feeling pain be because the guy is "larger" in that area? Yes, size can cause pain or discomfort even in otherwise perfect conditions, but it's not quite as common as a lot of people seem to think it is. A lot of girls assume their pain is a result of their partner's size when it is actually a result of something else. So if you're feeling pain and have a large partner, it could be a size issue, but don't assume it is right off the bat. First of all, make sure you're well lubricated. Dryness is the most common cause of pain. If you are not sure if you are making enough on your own, get a water-based lubricant from the store. Also, make sure you're in the mood before you have sex. The v****a actually expands when a woman is in the mood, so that makes more room for the p***s. And make sure you are relaxed. If you're tense down there, your v****a can clench shut, and that can make sexual activity uncomfortable, painful, or even impossible. If you still feel pain after you have all those things under control, talk to a doctor about it to make sure you don't have an infection. Then, if everything looks ok during your exam, it could be size, especially if you're feeling the pain deeper inside your v****a. Sometimes a guy's p***s will hit a girl's cervix, and most girls don't like that feeling! But your cervix moves up and down at different points in your cycle, and certain positions can make it easier or harder for the guy to hit the cervix. So if that is the issue, you can experiment with different positions and different times of the month to see if that helps.

If it isn't done right, it can be uncomfortable (if you rush into it and aren't lubricated).
If it really hurts (like jabbing pain), it is probably more serious, like a sexual disorder, an allergy to sperm or there's other reasons likely.

We haven't done it that much, and only a few times it hurt, like once or twice, (right at the beginning, i lost my virginity to him, and i was nervous.) but he is larger and i am pretty small in all ways, especially for my age. If it still hurts, i will consult a doctor.

RedMageKyo the first time you have sex,yes it can be a lil uncomfortable maybe even slightly painful.i mean do you think a clam is in pleasure when its pried open? The first time a woman has sex doesn't need to be any more uncomfortable than any other time she has sex. And sex should definitely not be anything even remotely like prying a clam open. If a woman is relaxed, well lubricated, in the mood, and infection-free, then sex will probably not be uncomfortable, even the very first time.
