Mercy had been stunned really when she'd found out she'd been given the position of Second Weyrling Master - true she'd given her speech and even hoped for the chance to help out her Weyr..but she hadn't actually dared to really get her hopes up. There were some other good candidates for the position that had spoken up as well.
Aerith however wore the smug expression of a dragon biting her tongue to keep from saying 'I told you so', as always the white had a great deal of confidence in her rider, perhaps more then her rider ever had in herself.
Once she had gotten over the initial shock however Mercy had quickly gone into action, spreading the word through the Weyrlings ranks that she would conduct a lesson the very next day and spent the remainder of the night thinking up said lesson. The Weyrlings had had their dragons long enough by now that the basics of dragon care seemed rather moot - they had all learned these quite well by now and while there were upcoming lessons that could do with a bit of background work, like learning how to take care of your riding harness such things just didn't seem to be as pressing or as needed as a lesson that Mercy thought would be useful - even if it wasn't exactly what one thought about when they thought of a Weyrling lesson.
"Do you think anyone will even show up?" She asked Aerith, a hand on the white dragons soft neck while they waited in the large clearing she had designated as today's 'classroom' along with the tables of supplies she'd had set up.
'they will if they know what is good for them and theirs' Aerith answered seriously. 'After this lesson we must go and congratulate Moriath and her's' The white continued in a matter of fact voice while they waited.
"Of course we will" Mercy agreed with a slight laugh - Aerith like most dragons forgot things pretty quickly, but she never seemed to forget anything to do with her favorite crimson hero. Hold still Bolth. Stop flopping around like an injured wherry. C'rci scolded gently from where she sat on the floor the growing blue stretched across her lap as she oiled him with an eye for detail.
But it feels so good Mine. The steely blue crooned his eyes whirling green and blue as Fasha the little crimson chirped down at him from her owners shoulders adding in to her owner's reprimand.
Oh I know dear heart, but I want you gleaming for our first lesson. Ok lift your chin~ ah there! She replied rubbing the oil carefully over her life partners face for the second time that morning only pausing when she was satisfied with the glimmer and glow of his freshly oiled hide. Even the little crimson on her shoulder had been oiled, much to Fasha's pleasure. After all the stubborn little flit certainly would never have let her's life it down if she had not gotten equal oiling to Bolth.
"Ok you two try not to get dirty for a few seconds while I throw on a clean tunic." C'rci ordered with a bright excited smile unwrapping the crimson from around her neck and setting her down on the weyrling's bed beside Bolth.
You're quite excited over this aren't you Mine? Bolth inquired watching with lazy happy eyes as His rushed around the room grabbing a clean light blue tunic and tossing it on after she pried her oil stained one off.
"I want us to make a good impression." She replied a low excited thrum echoing from rider and dragons throats as the fiery haired woman bent over the basin of water she had set beside her bed dipping a clean rag in to carefully wash her face grabbing a blue ribbon to tie back her wild mane of hair. Chittering Fasha lept from her spot taking wing to settle on her owner's shoulder lashing her tail around C'rci's neck like a ruby necklace and settling down to peer around her neck with flashing eyes.
Her's looked very very pretty today. Very pretty, Fasha crooned, Bolth adding in his own voice to the compliment making his rider beam.
We will do well Mine. We've practiced very hard and if we do not do well then we will surely practice harder until we do. Do you think the others will be there? I wonder how they and theirs are doing? The blue mused his cheerful voice a comforting ramble in his rider's mind as she reached out scratching his eyeridges affectionately.
"Come along Bolth, we can't be late." C'rci urged as Bolth bolted up to his feet with a cheerful bugle trotting ahead of his rider and down the hall only pausing to allow C'rci to jog and catch up. After waking up extra early and all that time of preening and all those days of training and coaxing they were finally going to get some action. He could practically feel C'rci vibrating from excitement and anticipation. Though Bolth wanted to help, wanted to do good, he knew his rider of late had been chafing against the constraints of time trying to distract herself with other tasks until lessons began.
They'd promised to attend to the lessons, to listen and trotting down to the clearing Bolth promised himself he would try not to get too distracted by all his clutchmate's and their interesting conversations.
Don't worry. You'll do great Bolth. She assured him as they approached the field noting that the two seemed to be the first pair to arrive.
"Good morning Weryling Master Mercy. Good morning Aerith." C'rci called out with a wave Bolth trotting ahead to greet rider and dragon alike with a playful bugle pausing to rise to his haunches little wings spread before dropping back to all fours and sitting down beside his rider.
Good morning Aerith. Mine is very excited. What do you have planned for us today? Is it interesting? Bolth asking tilting his head up to look at the white eyes whirling cheerfully.

Enyo fidgeted about her things as she had Jineth ready but she wasn't sure what to bring. She wanted to bring paper and writing supplies should she need to take notes but then what if they were to do a hands on thing. She was over thinking with her nerves and Jineth cooed softly, Mine, relax. Just bring a small bag of writing supplies and let us be off to learn.
Enyo looked to Jineth and smiled softly petting the Green's head, "But what if the Teacher wants us to show how our bond is? Does that need paper?"
Jineth gave a soft nudge ad the Flits chripped as one as they all tried to fill Enyo with confidence. Enyo sighed and tucked her small book and writing utensils in her pouch. She then tied her hair up with a brown string before fixing her chained tunic and facing the group. This part bothered her, she didn't want to chose but at the same time she couldn't take all her little flits. She scratched under Dinchara's chin and smiled, "I trust you to keep them in line since I know you are a Great leader."
Dinchara sat proudly though his eyes fell like he was sad she wasn't taking him. She then picked up her dark green Flit Xiena and placed her on the shoulder. She looked to the other three, "You behave and listen to Dinchara. When we return I'll get you guys some treats." The four flits thrilled and swayed their tails playfully. Enyo, Jineth and her Flint left heading to where their teacher was at.
All the while Jineth kept telling Enyo she'll be fine. When they arrived Enyo saw Bolth and C'rci; very softly she spoke, "Hi Bolth, C'rci." She then looked at the White Dragon on her new teacher barely speaking loud enough she smiled lightly, "H-Hello. I hope your day is well." Jineth looked to Bolth and then Aerith bowing her head softly, Hello Aerith, Hope today wont be a hard lesson.

Though she knew well in advance about the classes Mercy was running Morgaine was ill-prepared to leave to attend the first one. The fact was, even with Palooth's help and encouragement she just didn't do well socializing with others. It was better now, as the black did do his best to keep her calm but there were situations that still got to here. She looked forward to what Mercy would be teaching, but did it have to be done outside? The one place that she couldn't easily disinfect. Were there not rooms they could use to learn in? Somewhere that you knew just who and what had been in there before you. Morgaine was too busy fretting to realize it was time to get going.
"We are going to be late Mine." Palooth reminded her, though that only seemed to get Morgaine more worked up. "It will be okay Mine, Palooth will protect you." That made Morgaine smile. Reaching over she scratched the dragon on his ridges. He was perfectly clean, having only just had a bath minutes before. "Alright let's go." Morgaine grabbed a satchel that contained several notebooks and pencils, pulled on a pair of gloves and headed to the training area.
It took a lot of effort for her to walk in the area and not fret over every little spec of dirt and possible germ that lurked out here. Already a few others had arrived, and while Morgaine knew their names she just wasn't up to speaking with them yet. Leading Palooth to a spot that looked clean, though she was certain something terrible lurked in the dirt, she stood, arms crossed as she surveyed their surroundings. She would have liked to go and talk with Mercy, they hadn't gotten to talk much lately, but with her friend now the teacher it felt a bit awkward. So instead she simply waited, attempted to keep her fears in check and was grateful for Palooth's presence and support.

Z'en was nervous, but Kataith's steady nature made it easier for him, she was there giving him the calm reassurance he needed. They walked side by side towards where their lesson was to be held, Kataith's pace steady, she refused to be rushed. Z'en tried to hurry her but all he got was an amused rumble and no change in her speed "we're not late mine" was all she said.
When they reached their group Kataith settled down quickly, she was with Hers and for the moment was perfectly content. "Greetings, Bolth, Jineth, Palooth, I hope you and Yours are all well" she said calmly, eyeing the fidgeting Bolth. "Good day Aerith" she added.
Z'en merely nodded to his classmates, which earned him a well meaning nudge and he impression from Kataith that he needed to make a little ore of an effort. "Hi" he said quietly, leaning against his Green.

One by one people started to show up - although Mercy knew that there were still a good many missing she wasn't about to let the day waste away while waiting on them. If they wanted to learn then they would show up - if they didn't..well she could only hope that they would do well on their own. Weyrling lessons might seem like they weren't important but Mercy knew that a good working partnership created early would be beneficial in the future when these pairs had to face the horrors of thread.
As such she was determined to strengthen not only the bond between each Weyrling and dragon but also ensure that they could work together when things got difficult. Of course today's lesson was only the start and she wasn't about to throw them into the deep end quite yet - besides she had decided to teach them something else this first time, something that she thought might be a bit more practical given the Weyr's current situation, a situation where wounds were plentiful and healers...not so much.
She was not entirely surprised that it had been C'rci and Bolth that had arrived first, the blue was an excitable little thing and C'rci seemed like the eager sort. "Morning C'rci" Mercy greeted her with a smile for both her and her hatchling while Aerith crooned a greeting of her own.
'Hello Bolth' Aerith greeted the little blue 'Mine has something fun planned' The white assured him.
Next to appear was Enyo and her green Jineth, they seemed to be a rather quiet pair and Mercy gave her an encouraging look "My day's well so far and I'm sure it will only get better" She told Enyo pleasantly.
'Today's lesson will be fun' Aerith repeated to the green in an encouraging tone 'I'm sure that you will do fine'
Mercy was a bit surprised to see the next arrivals - to entice Morgaine out of her clean dorm and into the rather dusty clearing she'd selected for today's lesson was no small feat, she could only imagine that Palooth had had something to do with it and surely the little black would be good for her friend - she had to learn to relax and enjoy herself more. She smiled and nodded at the pair, inwardly holding in a laugh at the sight of the gloves. Morgaine would probably relax a little bit when she found out about today's lesson.
Z'en and Kataith came last, the boy looked a bit nervous, but that was fine - it was the first lesson after all, surely everyone would loosen up once they got to know each other better. "Hello Z'en" She greeted him.
'Kataith', Palooth' Aerith greeted the last two arrivals with a warm tone from where she hunkered close to her rider. It was kind of strange she reflected to be in the presence of other dragons and be the biggest one around. Even the two greens would tower over her when they were grown.
"Welcome everyone, I know you all might be a bit nervous - but don't worry! We're here to learn yes but I also hope we have a bit of fun along the way"She told the group cheerfully enough. "Today's lesson might not be exactly what you were all expecting - but given the current circumstances in Pern and the return of thread I think it's a necessary one, and its a way that you can help even before being able to fly thread." She concluded before motioning to the table of supplies she had set up.
On the table were boxes that looked to be filled with some ripped up hides, string, old bed sheets that had been torn and rolled to look suspiciously like bandages and some jars filled with...something. There were other things in the crates but they couldn't be seen at the moment.
"So if you haven't figured it out by now..today we're going to be learning some basic first aid" She told the gathered students brightly "I know that some of you have a bit of medical knowledge already and others helped out in helping the riders and dragons after the first fall and this lesson will likely be fairly easy for you - but a refresher is always good and you might still learn something you didn't know before" She added
"Now I'll go over what you can find in these crates as well as the basics of how to use them and then we'll get started on the exercise" She told the students before pulling out a white roll of ripped up bed sheet and holding it up "For the purpose of today's lesson these are bandages, don't worry..they're perfectly clean, we just couldn't afford to waste actual bandages on a practice lesson, now bandages are obviously used to bind wounds - but they can also be used to stop bleeding if you ball them up and use them to apply pressure, they can be used to tie on a splint and hold a broken bone steady while it heals..or to wrap up and support a strain or muscle sprain, for the most part after thread you will be using them to bind threadscore but be aware of other uses, some wounds require you to think outside the common use of things. Also most threadscore's are relatively clean since they are recieved in the air and simply don't come into contact with dirt and debris - however if a rider or dragon falls the wounds could be contaminated, make sure you thoroughly clean the wound before binding it"
Putting the bandages back she rummaged around in the box some more, ignoring the ripped herdbeast hides and pulling out some different types of string and needles "Some wounds simply won't heal just from being bandaged..at least not properly and leaving a deeper wound open only invites infection, most of the time simply bringing the two sides of the hide or skin together with a few quick stitches will be enough to do the job, obviously people and dragons each need a different strength to the needles and strings, thus the different sizes"
Setting down the stitching material she pulled out what appeared to be a flat stick "A splint - commonly used to help keep broken bones in place while they heal. It's probably pretty unusual to see this type of wound from a threadfall..however once in a while it does occur if the thread eats deep enough, a rider falls off upon landing or in rare events a wounded dragon lands badly, there isn't much we can do to set a dragon bone - they are far to large for the most part for us to treat and most dragons afflicted with this type of injury sadly go between, so it will mostly be riders that you'll have to splint. It's very simple..merely straighten the limb so that the bones are lined up as best as you can, place the stick alongside the limb and tie it in place with some bandages"
Setting the stick down she went on "Now that we've gotten the most common injuries out of the way we can talk a bit about pain management..for open wounds obviously we all know to smear on some numbweed" And here she help up a jar of the mysterious paste..which was really just some ground up chalk and water "...but some injuries require a different sort of treatment, broken bones for instance since the wound is not on the surface numbing the surface is of no use. In these cases hearlers normally use fellis juice...but fellis juice can be dangerous, it can be addictive and it can cause a sort of disjointed mental feeling that can obviously be bad for dragons and riders. I don't think I need to warn any of you about the dangers of a confused dragon. Because of this Fellis juice should always be used very sparingly, the least amount possible dosed and should never be given to riders with young dragons such as yours or those with head injuries"
Pausing she looked around the class to make sure those gathered had been listening. "And now for a bit of practice" She stated with a happy clap of her hands" Picking up a crate she set one in front of each dragon and rider pair. "Now pretending that your dragon is wounded - for the split use the tail, that should work well enough in the absence of a human leg to practice on, I want you all to practice what you've learned..and since I obviously don't want you stabbing your healthy hatchlings with needles - use the herdbeast hide to practice your stitching, drape it over your hatchling and stitch up the rips I put in it." She told the riders
And then she turned to the dragons "...and since real wounded dragons and people don't always stay still and be model patients..feel free to have a bit of fun and moan and writhe and act in any way you think a wounded dragon might act..within reason of course, don't be hurting yourselves or anyone else of course" She finished with a motion for the students to begin.

Rider & Dragon - Z'en and Kataith Attempting to - Stitch List passed sections here -
Z'en, with prodding by Kataith, decided to do what he thought might be the most difficult task first, stitching. He took the scrap of hide and put it against Kataith's shoulder. "Are you ready? ... remember Mercy said to wriggle as if you really did have a big cut or something ok?" he said, still unsure of himself.
Kataith nodded and gave her shoulder a little wriggle, as if she had an itch, since he hadn't started stitching yet. She caught his memories of his scrapes and scars, especially the faint silver lines on his arm from the wild Wherry when he'd rescued his blue flit Grym. Speaking of flits, they were all currently perched along Kataith's neck, all being very interested in what Z'en was doing, well .. all except for Mud and Merla, the younger Brown following in the older one's clawsteps and keeping him company.
"you all had better behave" he said, looking pointedly at Viska and Draska, the two more troublesome of his fair. His youngest flit, the black Bronx, refused to leave Z'en alone though and hopped onto the young man's shoulder, wrapping his tail around his neck and peering out. "ok i'm going to start now Kataith." he told her, making his first stitch. Kataith flinched and Z'en stopped, thinking he'd hurt her "I'm fine Mine, i am trying to help, you will need to know how to do this even with a thrashing dragon or person" she said, nosing him gently and he carried on. In due time he'd managed to stitch them well enough. It wasn't perfect but in the real situation it would work well enough. He looked at it and sighed, frowning a little and picked up another scrap of hide.

Enyo & Jineth - Attempting to - Stitches List passed sections here - 3 on Stitches *
Enyo looked to Jineth as her nervous raised. Jineth smiled and lightly cooed before flopping her tail and laying on her side, Mine will do great. Just try.
Enyo nodded and gathered the items for the stitching. She placed the hide at Jineth's back leg and began to stitch the hide best she could while Jineth moved her leg pretending to be in pain. Jineth made no sound of pain but did thump her tail like she didn't like the 'wound'. Enyo Finished and though her stitching wasn't perfect she feared trying it again.

C'ric & Bolth - Attempting to - Splint Rolled a 3 -
C'rci greeted the other weyrlings with a nod and a smile or in some cases a wave and a polite good morning in turn. Bolth though was more then happy to chirrup at them.
Good morning Jineth, Palooth, Katiath. The blue crooned happily his cheerful pitch going up an excited octave at Aereth's assurance that today's lesson would be a fun one.
C'rci on the other hand had trained her golden eyes on Mercy her attention narrowed down to their teacher the moment she'd mentioned first-aid. The brief flash of pain, and the memories of the horrors they'd seen not long ago jarring even Bolth from his excited chatter as he twined himself lovingly around his rider's legs.
We are good at making things better Mine. You will fix everything and I will help. The blue replied with blatant love and confidence in his rider seeking to comfort her in her fear though the little dragon shook in his hide at the slightest idea of thread.
Not thread, anything, but thread. Thread could not take his from him, he would not let it. The little striped blue shuddered as C'rci still keeping her ears open for Mercy's explanations took one knee beside her dragon looping her arm over his neck and pulling him close against her side to bend and press a little kiss to his eyeride before standing once more.
It was a simple wordless gesture from a girl who preferred action to speech, but to Bolth it spoke volumes as C'rci's unwavering love steadied the sometimes skittish hatchling. Collecting her gear the crimson haired weyrling laid out her supplies while Bolth settled himself down fit to catch a little sun and perhaps gossip with his clutchmates.
Palooth, Mine and I have not seen you and yours in sometime. How is your wingless one? She seems quite nervous yes? I am sure she will do well though. She seems quite clever. Bolth inquired eyes whirling a merry blue and green though he made it a point to try and please Mercy and fidgetted some forcing his rider to carefully grip the blue's tail to practice splinting it.
Luckily for Bolth and C'rci this was not something the girl was unused to doing since it was common in mines and on duty for a wher to fall or have something fall on it to break it's tail. "Enjoying the sun dear heart?" C'rci asked her voice tinted with good humor at her dragon's actions though her eyes never left her work and soon enough the blue's tail was obscured with a well set split. It certainly wasn't healer quality by any means, but it would stay and do it's job.
Bolth curious of the contraption on his tail rolled onto his back arching to eye the device. Fasha herself cracked one sleepy eye open letting out a little snort of amusement at the her owner's bonded's silliness. Chuckling C'rci lifted a hand to scratch the little crimson's eyeridges before grabbing the hide that would be used to practice stitching.
"Come on Bolth roll back over unless you want me to stitch this to your belly." She called out to him cheerfully reaching one hand out to run it over the soft hide of her blue's stomach.
And ruin your expert oiling job! Why never Mine! Bolth answered with a trill flipping back onto his back and curling his wings tight to his body at C'rci's urging still making it a point to twitch and shift as he eyed the others.
Everything was just so interesting!

Rider & Dragon - O'thor and Silver Adamanth Attempting to - Stitch List passed sections here -
O'thor showed up about the time Mercy was beginning to explain the instructions. He hung back, not wanting to interrupt the proceedings while she was speaking. He and Adamanth had been distracted with another task in the weyr, and only his Silver's comment that some of his Clutchmates were going somewhere together reminded O'thor of his lesson. That, of course, was unacceptable, but accidents happened. He would just have to be more careful in the future.
When Mercy finished speaking, O'thor approached her. He inclined his head to her first, and then to Aerith. "I'm sorry for being late, Assistant Weyrlingmaster. It won't happen again."
After taking whatever chastisement Mercy offered, O'thor returned to Adamanth and his box of medical supplies. The Silver watched with curiosity as O'thor drew the first materials-- the hide for stitching and a threaded needle-- from the box and laid them over his body. The concern that O'thor might stab him accidentally didn't even cross his mind.
Good, mine. This is exactly as the others are doing. Our lateness has not caused us to fall behind in any way. You see?
It's always better to be on time, O'thor replied, focusing himself on the task at hand. Thankfully, Adamanth was not a dragon prone to rash movement except where it was absolutely necessary, so O'thor had a very still patient for his first attempt. Mercy's instructions to "play around" with it went in one ear and out the other with this Silver. It also meant that O'thor's attempt at stitching was passable, though not perfect. Perfection required experience and practice, after all.
He set up for a second try. "Try moving around a bit this time, Adamanth. Let's see if we can do this under pressure as well."

C'rci & Bolth - Attempting to - Stitch Rolled - 3 + 1 = 4 due to experience stitching thread wounds
While Bolth chattered away twisting his head this way and that to eye his clutchmates C'rci kept her head bent low to her work only lifting her head with O'thor and Adamatnh arrived. Arching an eyebrow at the late pair she shot them a small smile before continuing her work on one of the large rips in the hide.
Careful not to accidentally stab Bolth with the needle C'rci kept her stitches tight and small drawing on her knowledge from wherhandling and the less pleasant memories of the thread injuries.
Catching sight of the silver out of the corner of his eye Bolth turned his head trilling a cheerful greeting to Adamanth. His sudden move forcing C'rci to shift and brace lest she drag her needle point over her beloved dragon's steely blue hide. Recovering without too much trouble she tied off the end of the stitches surveying her work and reaching a hand out to stroke Bolth's head te blue crooning with half lidded eyes in response.

Enyo & Jineth - Attempting to - Splint List passed sections here - Stitch with a 3
Enyo then pulled out the stick and some the bandages as she looked to the thumping tail, "Jineth, I'm thinking I must split on your tail... Alright?" Jineth smiled and nudged Enyo on the shoulder with her nose, Mine will do fine just focus alright?
Enyo nodded and moved to the thumping tail as she proceeded to lay some the bandages under the motion and ready them for the splint wrap.

Enyo & Jineth - Attempting to -Bandage List passed sections here - Stitch(3), Splint(3)
*4* (bounces)
Enyo smiled as so far she felt she was doing alright. She then looked to wrap the front left leg of Jineth for the last item of Bandage. She moved over and smiled at Jineth, "Alright I am to wrap and use this weed on your leg ok?" Jineth nodded as she had faith in her rider. She softly unrolled the torn sheet and looked to the leg that Jineth was kicking out as though it hurt. Enyo selected the weed for the pain and softly applied it to the leg as she tenderly wrapped the weed and leg. When the leg was wrapped and secured she smiled. Jineth looked to the bandage as she saw the great work Enyo had done. She smiled, Mine did great! Mine can see the progress from the tail too.
(So any sewing? Then cause I have Enyo trying to find a talent and her practicing tailoring would that mean I can add 1 to her roll on Stitching? Sorry I had only read it just now cause the last two times I was half awake.)

Rider & Dragon - O'thor and Adamanth Attempting to - Stitch List passed sections here - 3
Adamanth acquiesced to O'thor's request with a great deal more movement than his rider necessarily needed. The result was skewed stitches, to put it lightly. O'thor winced when he saw his awful attempt and began undoing the stitches. They would try the movement stitches again, perhaps with less wriggling this time.
