Artifact Search
This mission can be taken on solo or with a group. You can run this mission more than once.

Equipment Pack:
- red flag set (for marking your trail)
- 1 bandage (roll 1d cool
- 1 FEAR scanner
- GPS mapping app for your cell phone (to record locations of FEAR spikes)
- 1 days worth of MRE's
- 1 pair of spare socks and an apple with a smiley face on it

Division Bonuses:

- Life hunters have extra bandage kits (trainees roll 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20; the number of these heals is not unlimited, but rather equal to the number of people in their party)

- Death hunters need to scout ahead of the group, looking for signs of danger, avoiding it when possible, and reporting back to the group. They're skilled in avoiding damage. (trainees get 4 auto-damage instead of 5, intermediates get 3 auto-damage instead of 5)

- Sun hunters are usually a group's most effective offense force. (During a battle, a trainee is capable of two recoveries, and an intermediate is capable of three.)

- Moon hunters create the defensive line that enable groups to take on and survive powerful opponents. (trainees roll to block battle damage using 1d12, intermediates roll 1 d20)

- Mist Hunters fill the gaps as needed. (trainees can fill each role one time, in battle or in response to prompts, intermediates can fill each role twice. Both use the trainee rolls of other divisions)

Prompts: Group leader rolls 1d100.
If you have multiples of a division, they can all roll when prompted to try and thwart damage

1-20: A peaceful white landscape. Maybe a little boring, but better than certain alternatives. Careful! There's some precarious footing ahead! If you don't have a Death hunter to scout, everyone gets 5 falling damage!
Death hunters: roll 1d4, if you roll 1-3 you successfully navigate the party around an icy path. If you roll 4 everyone gets 5 falling damage.
(FEAR scanner reading: low)

21-40: There's a loud cracking sound in the distance! In the distance a large group of penguins flee the area! The ground begins to shake violently under your feet! If you don't have a moon hunter, everyone gets 5 quake damage!
Moon hunters: roll 1 d4 for every member of your party to try and protect them. For every 1 you roll, you fail to protect 1 person from damage.
(FEAR scanner reading: moderate)

41-60: You're crossing a a large stretch of ice, when someone looks down and sees something odd beneath it. Once you've passed beyond it and reached higher ground, you look back and see what resembles a massive eyes beneath the surface. It suddenly swivels to stare at your party.
(FEAR scanner reading: SPIKE)

61-80: You hear something snap behind you, and turn just in time to see the last flag you've planted get sucked underground. When you inspect where it was you see nothing but a hole going down further than your eye can follow. All of your other flags have met a similar fate. Any party without a Life or a Death hunter lose 10 hp due to getting lost.
Death & Life hunters: roll 1d4 to scout the way back or tweak your phone's mapping. If you roll a 1, you are immediately successful, no one take damage. Roll a 2 or 3, you take a little while to figure things out, everyone gets 5 dmg. Roll a 4, and you're unsuccessful, in a few hours the search crew finds you and leads you back to the base.
(FEAR scanner reading: moderate)

81-100 BOSS FIGHT!

Once again the ground beneath you shifts and buckles eventually cracking open as a massive tentacle bursts from the surface and strikes out at your party! When defeated, rather than dissipate, the tentacle slithers back underneath the surface.

Before figured simply loitering in the camp wasn't going to be very good for him, emotionally and mentally. He needed to keep busy, keep moving, make it feel like he was doing something instead of just going with the flow and reacting to his situation. He should be more proactive but at the same time, he was rather reluctant about it. Whether it was intentional or not, his feet somehow led him to where Tori was. Coincidentally, it was also where a certain Sunny was not too far away,

"Hey," he greeted to the two trainees. "You, uh, you wanna go do something that isn't us standing around? Um, heard there was a mission we could go on..."

Up until this point, Jeremy had done a very good job at just taking up space. Everyone had taken care of everything before he could get the chance to assist, and eventually he'd just given up in favour of being there if needed. When Before approached him he was picking at his nails, getting some dirt out from underneath them and simply just...existing.

"Hey~" He greeted, glancing up at the intermediate Before, golden eyes peering through his cropped hair as he was not only addressed, but invited along on something. "Sure!" Jeremy nodded with a moment of consideration. Hurray, something to do! "Lead the way, bossman~" He shifted his weight from a lazy 'just there' stance to a 'okay, ready to follow' one, standing on both legs instead of leaning on just the one.

He didn't even care what kind of mission it was; it was a mission, and something to do.

Tori had gotten something more appropriate to wear for the cold weather and a little rest that didn't end too well. She had gotten a bite to eat and was now wandering around trying to keep things together. She still really wanted to read something but she knew that would be a bad idea at least here and with her own division leader here as well. She had also heard that there was something else they could have done in one of the other tents but that didn't appeal to her.

"Hey," she replied to the both of them. "That sounds liked a good idea," she added as it was better than wandering around doing nothing or taking up space somewhere else. But she was also glad for the distraction as well were she didn't have to think too hard on things she didn't want to think on. All she wanted to do was to forget the best that she could and get on with what they were suppose to do to what Tori had no clue.

The Misty felt encouraged with the reception. Sure he already expected Tori to agree but he was surprised with Jeremy. "Haven't seen your face for a while," he grinned to the Sunny, then motioned for them to follow him to the tent where they could get their survival supplies. "Story, this guy in the same batch as me. He knows Bo-er, Ariane." Before corrected himself, gesturing to the two trainees, "Jeremy, Story, Story, Jeremy." He introduced just as they began the mission.

One would think having gone to the North Pole before would have made this mission easier for the Misty. But nope, he'd spent most of that mission indoors plus, the Alaska mission was mostly them staring at a crashed plane. And fighting off scary-a** monster dog things. "Oh shi-!" he gasped as they came across a precarious section of snow O_________________________O!!!!!!!!!!

Before motioned to his team to wait while he went ahead to scout. He took his time but he hoped the wait was worth it. "Okay, we can get past this, we just... gotta be real careful..."

"Yeeeah...I'm doing a good job at just existing." He gave Before a thumbs up, notreally wanting to explain what he'd been doing and the general lack of anything else. "Story? That's a neat name." It had to be a nickname...what parent would name their kid Story? Granted, it was Before...and Before was nice and special.

The going was decent, right up until the sudden TERRIBLE SNOW! He only happily leaned back and waited for Before do to his thing, but while he waited he looked over at the female with them as if trying to decide if he'd seen her or not. In the end, he decided not.

"So. How're things?" He asked conversationally, an upbeat hitch to his voice. As Before returned, he outstretched a tanned, gloveless hand. "Ladies first."

Tori listened quietly when Before was talking as that would have been rude to interrupt as she got her own supplies for the mission. "That is cool and I met Ariane before we had a spar together. She total kicked my a**, but it was a good spar," Tori replied. "Its nice to meet you Jeremy and thanks and I also go by Tori too," she added since Story was the nickname that he had given her.

It had been nice until the snow was being evil, but she had been behind and let Before scout ahead for them. "They go good, but I do think I don't like the cold much," Tori answered to Jeremy a little nervousness in her voice. "Why thank you, Jeremy that was kind of you," she replied as she followed where it was safe to walk really carefully.

Once they made their way past the treacherous snow, Before let the other two trainees go on ahead so he could plant the flag for their trail. "Existing is good," he remarked, "Means you're still get the chance to be of help!" he added encouragingly to Jeremy. "You can totes come bug me anytime you want! I mean, iun think you were a Beta buuuuuuut, neither was Story and she's, like, my girl!" then he quickly added "Best friend! Best girl friend. I mean girl that's friend that's-" he began to ramble when thankfully he heard something crack behind him.

"W-where'd the flag I just planted go?" DDDDDDDDD8

Glad to be pasted the treacherous snow as she when ahead of Before while listened to the both of them talk as she really didn’t know what to say. Then hearing what Before said made Aklin chuckle a little as she didn’t know why her weapon was doing that and just didn’t pay too much close attention to how it was said.

“I don’t know I will go look then,” Tori said as she carefully walked to were the flag had been and then tried to walk on to show a safe way to walk but as she walked on Tori heard more cracking sounds as she carefully walked. But it didn’t matter as she took another step and met a fate similar to the flags. Tori was really sorry and now knew that she sucked at navigation.

((I'm sorry as it looks like the dice really hated me and tolling me really hard))

Before gave Tori a reassuring pat on her shoulder. He wasn't blaming her. If anything, he was blaming himself. And in his distracted moment, he failed to realize just where he had led his team. D8 Oh s**t, it was this place again. And with no Deather in the group, it looks like it was up to Before to try and navigate their way through again.

It took the Misty some time to sort out which path was the safest. Actually it took him a ******** of time to sort out which path was the safest but he'd done it before and he had done it again! His teeth were chattering from a mixture of cold and adrenaline, the amount of tension one undergone through navigating a treacherously icy path was not something to sneeze at! No siree Bob! "C-c-c-c'mon, let's k-k-keep m-moving," he ordered through chattering teeth.

As the trio trudged through the snow with Before taking the lead, the Misty was too preoccupied with the surroundings and the scanner to be trying to keep up a conversation going. Plus, they were searching for something and it was probably best that they didn't alert anyone that shouldn't be alerted of their presence. The FEAR Scanner suddenly screeched to life in Before's hands, indicating a massive FEAR spike. Maybe if he hadn't been so preoccupied with the readings, he might have noticed the large eye beneath the ice.

By the time Before finally looked down beneath his feet and spotted the large eye, the ground was suddenly beginning to shake. At first he thought it was just him being cold and nervous and shivering in his boots. But the squawks and honks of panicked penguins reached his ears and made it very clear that what was happening was real and it wasn't all in his head.

"Oh shi- WATCH OUT!" he hollered to Jeremy and Tori. He tried to motion for them to avoid the incoming rush of snow and snow and more snow. Plus the occasional boulder here and there and the rare penguin. But as he tried to move forward (or just, y'know, move) the violent rocking made it nearly impossible to do without sustaining injury.

The Misty didn't care about personal injury, nor did he care about the risk of being buried alive. At least he'd be properly preserved and who knows, he might even fall into suspended animation or something cool like that. But he did care about what would happen to his fellow trainees. As a particularly stone-riddled pile of snow and ice descended, Before somehow managed to shove Tori and Jeremy out of the way.

And end up being buried in the process, with just his hands sticking out of the snow bank. Hopefully one of them would think to dig him out and maybe call for back up or something. Before didn't think they'd be finding that artifact soon and they only had enough MRE's for a day anyway.

((saved Tori and Jeremy but took damage in the process, Before is at 45))
