It was noon and Precipice had been on the hunt for some lunch. Her meals were rather intermittent, one kill usually being enough to last her a day, maybe a day and a half, but even if she could go a little longer without one, she wouldn't refuse a good opportunity. And that opportunity had just moments ago, when she'd picked up the trail of a young foxbun and flushed it out from the underbrush. It had taken off and she had pursued, chasing it into this particular clearing of swamp, sure she'd be able to use the clear to pick up speed and finish the deed, when suddenly the little thing had disappeared. In a clearing.

Edge had done a double take, eyes narrowing but pushing her frustration down in exchange for focus. There weren't exactly many options for cover, not at the edge of a little clearing like this, she just had to figure out which one the foxbun chose. She closed in on where she'd last seen it, carefully searching the underbrush and the mangroves, when she saw a certain layering of brush that seemed not quite natural. That was what brought her to her current thought -- Now what had we here? -- and she brushed aside the covering to find the entrance of a den, and, sticking her head in, she saw the shuddering frame of her prey curled into the back corner.

With a gleam in her eye and a predatory grin, Edge ambled into the den, closing in on her prey, ignoring the scent of another kin that permeated the shelter. Whoever he was, he wasn't at home at the moment, and she had her lunch to kill.

User ImageIt wasn't often that Home heard an extra pair of footsteps enter his den. When he did, it was usually one of two things: An animal dumb enough to wander its way into his den, or his brother, Away, who was also dumb enough to wander his way into Home's den.

Generally, Home would notice these things before they entered. After all, when you're this anti-social, you tend to develop a deep sense of paranoia. Today wasn't the case... In fact, when the stranger wandered in, Home was still half asleep, and had been for the last several hours. Last night was long, you see. When he was bored, and had no need to hunt, Home often wandered into the swamp in search for its more... Interesting plants. He'd spent his evening in a fuzzy stupor, as he often spent evenings, before finally crashing to the ground and falling asleep in the far corner of his home.

The small pitter patter of the Foxbun caught his ear just as he was regaining consciousness. It was too early, though, to hunt. He would let it go for now. It wasn't until he heard heavier footsteps that he finally lifted his head and looked around, blinking blearily, staring at the fuzzy shape. It was vaguely shaped like a Kin, so he uttered the words he had said so many times, a phrase well rehearsed, in a gruff voice. "Augh, brother. Go home. Find someone else to entertain you. I will not be playing your games today."

The shadows of the cave stirred, and suddenly the head of a kin lifted from the eaves - it was impossible to tell if it startled Edge or her prey more. The foxbun froze in place, and Edge did the same, having assumed her prey wasn't stupid enough to jump into an occupied den. Apparently she had been mistaken. Now both their eyes turned to the bleary-eyed buck, who for some motherfather awful reason started calling her his brother.

"I'm not a-" but the snappy words stopped in her throat as the foxbun chose that moment to make a run for it. It skirted the far side of the cave, away from the buck, and would have gotten around Edge had she stopped to finish her sentence. Thankfully she hadn't, taking that split second to sidestep and lunge, her jaws clamping around the foxbun's spine just above its haunches, pinning it to the ground. The foxbun screamed, a high pitched keening cry, before Edge cut the sound short by smashing her hoof through it's skull.

Edge tossed her head, spitting out fur, her prey safely between her forehooves, before turning her golden eyes back to the buck who was probably wide awake now.

"I'm not your brother," she replied simply.

Wait a minute... This wasn't his brother. This looked nothing like his brother. In fact... Even Home was still hallucinating and this Kimeti wasn't really there, there was no way it could be his brother. It was... A doe? When did that happen? A doe hadn't been in his den in... Well, never. He'd never had a doe in his den. He'd never been in a does den. Heck, he didn't even think he'd talked to a doe, other than the two or three times he'd spoken with his mother.

What was he supposed to say to a doe? Could he be brash and rude like he was with his brother? Did he have to be polite to her? Did he he know how to be polite? Was this how babies were made? "Oh no..." He muttered under his breath, face going pale, his eyes wide. He was just as frozen as his two house guests. He didn't want to be polite. He didn't want to decode how to speak to a doe. He definitely didn't want babies. Oh, how he despised social interaction.

The Foxbun was the first to move. His brows knit as his eyes darted towards it, and then towards the doe as she started to move. The scream was ear splitting, and definitely not what the buck needed to hear this early in the morning, after the night he had. After letting out a groan, he huffed and finally spoke. "Shut that thing up...!"

Finally, after the screaming stopped, the doe spoke. His ears laid flat against the back of his head as he frowned, watching her carefully. "Yes, I can see that now."

Now that her prey was dead, Edge was able to size up the buck for the first time. A handsome brown pelt, glowing blue eyes, but altogether not a particularly impressive physical specimen, at least as far as she could see in this light and with him laying down. Especially given his expression, almost as fearful as the foxbun's had been -- she had to fight the urge to chuckle.

"You don't get many visitors, do you?" but the question is more of a statement, a light-hearted smirk playing across her features before she turns back to her kill, absently licking at the blood that is beginning to pool from its crushed skull.
