 The main room of the HQ was unusually quiet today, at least until you considered how nice the weather was outside. Many of the residents that had been cooped up for most of the winter had abandoned the indoors in favor of the fine weather, and the empty interior seemed almost forlorn for the sudden lack.
It wasn't exactly empty, however, though most of the locals were even still unaware of the strange shadow-being that called the building home. Fewer still knew what he looked like, or how to pick out the darker patch within the natural shadows in the back corner of the room that belied his location. And he was content with that.
Darkside was resting today, as it were. After Pearl's sickness, and then his son coming home somewhat dumbfounded as the new guardian of his female friend's fourth child, the Heartless savored the quiet. Pearl had gone to her other home to assure everyone she was not dead, Lucent had taken Kumori out to play (or probably to nap under some bushes somewhere, knowing his son). He was on his own again, for a while at least... and as much as Darkside loved his family, it was nice to have some time to himself.

 Makoto padded into the HQ not sure where to find Lucent and her child but wanting to visit them, Onyx and her had a falling out over trust again and she just really needed to talk to someone who would be able to see things from a logical rather than emotional perspective. She couldn't see anyone in the HQ at the moment but that didn't mean he wasn't here, he could be playing hide-n-go-seek who would be better at playing than him? She stuck her nose in every shadow whispering " Lucent?" If anyone walked in at the moment they would think she was crazy

Anyone? Well, anyone aside from Darkside and his family, and those who had helped to raise Kaale'Indon. When Makoto's nose approached his own hiding space the two glowing moon-like orbs of the Heartless's eyes appeared there, floating all but disembodied on eye-level with her. -Lucent is out, Miss Makoto. He thought your daughter might enjoy the sunshine and weather today. Alas, my son gets along better with bright light than I do.- Not that he minded the quiet reprieve.

Makoto took a sharp intake of breath the sudden appearance of disembodied eyes not something she was accustomed to but she smiled and relaxed once over the immediate shock "Ah thank you, you must be Darkside, Lucent mentioned you but we've never had the pleasure to meet" She backed up a few feet not wanting to crowed him "He had mentioned you before, in regard to books I believe, do you like to read?" Ok she was being silly now talking for the sake of talking something she hated but she didn't know what else to say to a pair of floating eyes and just walking off seemed rather rude to do to her best friends father so she just sat there talking to floating eyes and asking silly question

The blacker bits of the shadow seemed to drift away from the walls and floor, slowly condensing into Darkside's actual form. Moonlight that could not possibly be present lit his form and completely ignored the proper natural lighting of the room. The shadow tendrils that composed his mane whipped about of their own accord for a moment before his spiny wings tightened and he seemed to focus rather intently on something, and then they stilled. There was little more he could do to help alleviate the effect his odd, and often intimidating, appearance tended to have. He gently clasped his talons together in front of him and inclined his head to the female. -Well, it is a pleasure to meet one that my son thinks so highly of. And there is no need for embarrassment, Miss Makoto. You have done better to handle a possibly awkward situation than many I have met.- How could the Heartless miss those feelings radiating from her? It would be easier for him to ignore the heat radiating from the fireplace when it was lit.

Makoto smiled, she liked Darkside already all the heart of Lucent with more social grace even if Lucent's lack of social grace was something she craved now and again, there was a freedom in it she found in little else, still she couldn't help but like his father. "Your son has given me ample time to practice" she smiled almost laughing remembering her first encounter with Lucent, she had nearly had a heart attack though he had quickly won her over. She stilll wasn't sure what to say conversations weren't her strong suit but she didn't want to lose the company of Darkside she was already forgetting her troubles for the time being so what to talk about? "I'm glad to know he is as fond of me as I am of him, he really it quite a wonderful friend" She wondered some what Lucent might have said about her, if there was anything more in it than just the facts

Darkside nodded subtly. -As you have given him, in turn. I am glad one of my children at least has managed to make friends. They all seem to be rather socially awkward... I believe Lucent was simply unaware of being such, initially.- There was a distinct sensation of chuckling coming from Darkside, even if there was no "sound" to it.
The Heartless was silent for a long moment after that, moonlit orbs giving Makoto a searching look. -Pardon me if I am stepping out of bounds, Miss Makoto, but you were troubled when you came in. May I inquire as to why?- The female was likely used to Lucent's uncanny knack for picking up on what she was feeling by now. But whatever talent Lucent had for reading the emotions released from a heart Darkside had tenfold more.
He spared an idle thought to wonder if Lucent had ever explained to his friend what it was that made them so in tune with such things... or about how they ate the stray emotions left over after hours in the HQ building. Likely not, if only because Darkside was uncomfortable with others knowing. He was no longer the monster he'd once been...

Makoto smiled "Something we have in common, I think it's what helped us become such great friends, Lucent gave me someone to practice the few social skills I posses without fear of judgment and so" she opens her arms to show herself better "I've become better at it"
When he asked about her mood however she slumped a bit, was this something she should talk about to Lucent's father? Lucent didn't do anything wrong but she was afraid he still might get in trouble, perhaps she should just be vague. "My... mate and I are having a fight again and I just really needed to get away.. everything had been wonderful before the kids but now he's just so over protective that ..." she sighed "I don't know, I really don't" She looked to Darkside hoping against hope that he had advice that could fix everything. Too much to ask of anyone she knew but there was that hope against all logic that just pleaded for a fix. Maybe she should have just stuck to her books stayed celibate ... become a nun... something. Maybe she should have pursued Lucent more, she shook her head to clear out the thoughts, too late now to go back.

Darkside sat for several long, silent moments in thought, resting his chin upon his folded paws and giving a soft mental "hmm" to indicate to Makoto that he was indeed thinking and not paying her silent plea no heed.
-I have no magic "fix" for such a thing, I am afraid. Matters of the heart are often more complicated, and more simple, than even one such I can offer an easy remedy to. But perhaps it might help...- He paused, lifting his moonlit orbs to peer intently at Makoto. -As fond as you are of books, perhaps it would help you to write down what these things are that he has begun doing that upset you, and then to write down why they effect you so. He is "overprotective" now. Are you feeling stifled by this? Hemmed in? Why is it bothering you like it does? You might find If he could be convinced to make a similar list as well, perhaps you could find a label for these issues and then come back and discuss them at a time when they are not currently making you want to bite each other's heads off. And then... then perhaps you can actually discuss solutions, instead of just the problems.-
He paused again, bowing his head to her solemnly before lifting his gaze again. -I might also suggest finding someone to... mediate? Someone both of you can feel comfortable talking to. I fear Lucent or I, or anyone we might suggest, would make your Onyx fellow a bit suspicious right now. You would probably do better to look toward your own families for a hand there. You have someone with outside perspectives that you feel comfortable going to right now, and he does not seem to have the same. I think he needs some outside advice, whether he would wish it for himself or not.-
Darkside could read between the lines of a feeling, and Lucent had obviously discussed the matter with his father as well. But the fact remained that the Heartless and his family made Onyx uncomfortable right now... and that left them with far less ability to help than they might wish.

Makoto sighed fearing further confrontation but she had a feeling Darkside was right and his suggestion was far better than any she had come up with, which was basically fight about it or avoid it. She nodded her agreement, "You're right thank you... I don't know who I might ask but I will have to find someone capable... for now I suppose I should start the list..." she closed her eyes and groaned, she much rather her books over so much drama... this was one of the reasons she rarely read fiction, now she was going to have to go poking around with her own emotions just to get her head straight. She frowned. "I don't even know where to begin"
