Life was easy when things ran smoothly. For Cassiel, he rarely had those moments in life that challenged his magical ability and his patience. But a young child's spirit by the name of Emmalee pushed him past his boundaries. Not only had she refused to cross over, she had a temper tantrum in the middle of his shrine! Fists went flying, energy soared and she invoked a fear in Cassiel that he never felt before. This was a spirit of a child; if he couldn't handle this then he'd never handle parenthood! But after several hours of failed attempts to cross the screaming child over, Cassiel threw his staff down in defeat. He couldn't do this alone.

"Why Emmalee... Why don't you want to cross over?" He asked the child, desperate for an answer just to calm his own spirit. But as he knelt beside the child, her only answer was, Because, I dun wanna! followed with a fit of laughter. Oh, she had to know she was driving Cassiel nuts. But he was much to kind to harm a child, even the spirit of one. He could never bring himself to forcefully send the child through the gateway, but she was getting rather close to this possibility. He had one more trick up the proverbial sleeve. He was going to ask for help! He knew of another exorcisma in the area, though her name slipped his mind. Ah well, he'd ask when he got there. "Ok kiddo, let's go for a walk." Hand in hand, the tall man escorted the child through the forest, leaving the comforts of his shrine in hopes of helping the brat, er, child.

Some time passed before Cassiel found the cemetery, having followed presence of a kindred spirit. He couldn't arrive any sooner, as his energy was starting to wane. He must have looked comical to Lutea. At one point in their journey the girl had climbed up onto his shoulders, where she now sat. His glasses were on top of her head, his hair frazzled to the tips, and his ears were her reigns. Oh how he wished he could throw her into a deep abyss. Riding his shoulders was no big deal, messing up his hair he could handle, being mildly blind with the loss of his glasses, eh.. who needed to see anyway? But his ears. Every time she tugged them she gave a little squeal of Faster pony! I wanna go faster! Cassiel never walked any faster, but his mood took a quick turn for the worse. He was at his wits end!

"Excuse me." He called out to the woman, or... at least he thought it was the woman. For all he knew he was talking to a statue without his glasses on. "I was hoping you might be able to help me with a minor issue I'm having. You see, this is Emmalee and died this past winter due to illness. I've been trying all morning and afternoon to cross her spirit over, but she simply refuses to go on the grounds of 'I don't wanna.'" His voice held a heavy undertone. He really just wanted the poor girl out of his hair. Perhaps he could simply pawn her off on the woman? No, he couldn't drop this burden on a complete stranger. Not yet anyway. "She simply won't cooperate with me at all. She won't cross over nor tell me why she wants to stay behind. Perhaps a woman, like yourself, could convince her into behaving?" He tacked a charming smile onto the end of his request, hoping it would help persuade Lutea.

It was an old past-time of hers, whenever she found areas that spirits dwelled in some form of normalcy, Lutea would sit and talk with them for hours, should they be decent. Some were human, or like herself, who had found themselves trapped somehow, or simply chose to stay. Others were not human, nor majin, but spirit-creatures little known outside the world the Exorcisma knew. Oh, what wonderful stories they could tell, and sometimes what marvelous advice. Try cooking rabbit with this particular herb, I know it doesn't sound nice, but it tastes of wonders! One might say, while another would delve into giving her overly-detailed and raunchy stories of their promiscuous past that had even her wrinkling her nose.

At this time, she was in the middle of writing down a particularly interesting bit of advice about dealing with humans, when the spirits around her went silent, and she felt their presences hastily diminish. That was...strange. Then, she had heard his voice -- a male behind her, beckoning for help, and he was accompanied by the giggling hysteria of what she presumed to be a female child's spirit.

Lutea stood to her full height from her little patch of grass she had been roosting on, brushing her long hair from her front. "Oh my, my~" she purred, laying her eyes on him. He was one like herself, but from a shrine family she had never had any contact with. He was different, and different had to be played with and...explored.

"Tsk, it's easy to tell when a little girl won't leave. I can't see her happy little face to know, but I think...." Lutea stroked her index finger down his belly, smiling jovially at his reaction and giggling, before leaning close to his ear, giving it a soft little nibble before whispering. "She has a little crush on you, big brother~"

Lutea twirled back a few steps, used to human beings either welcoming her affection or swatting her away. She knew Exorcisma differed...some shrines, like her own, relished their physical bodies and contact with others. Cuddling or being close to share warmth and affection was a normal thing, but other shrines practiced quite the opposite, and could be even more stingy with sharing their bodies than the human beings could. She'd wait patiently to see what type this one was. This one..what was his name, anyways?

"And who might you be, who chases away the little friendly spirits of Lutea~?" She considered what he had requested of her upon his arrival, and continued. "Before you get your hopes up though, I'm not of priestess-calibur. I was a guardian at my shrine, so I can only simply move spirits, I can't cross them over without violence. I can't actually see them, either. Only the priestess or priests at Niflheim's Shrine were capable to see them, all I can do is sense them, and speak with them, and sometimes sing with them."

He never knew what to expect when meeting another Exorcisma. They were all so different and unique in their own ways, much like humans and majin. But as the blue-eyed girl came closer, and her image focused before his eyes, he couldn't help but notice two things. One, she was hardly dressed! Oh how it was hard to keep his eyes up above her shoulders. Two, she was beautiful. For a moment he was so captivated by the color of her eyes that he didn't notice what her hand was doing. But as he felt the pressure of her finger slide down his stomach, his pale cheeks turned a dark pink and he had to take a step back. The distance wasn't enough though, as she continued to invade his personal space and assault his ears. Touching was one thing, but a nibble? It sent bells and whistles off in his mind and the male had to take a much larger step back.

"C-c-cr..." He paused a moment, clearing his throat several times to find his voice. Luukria had a similar effect on him and he thought he overcame this nervousness around females of his race. Boy was he wrong! "Crush? H-how can she have a crush on me?" He was more shocked by that knowledge than the fact she couldn't see the giggling four year old perched on his shoulders. A crush? On him? It was impossible. "There has to be another reason why she won't leave." he said, reaching up for his glasses to return them to the bridge of his nose. He wanted to see who he was speaking to, but almost wished he kept the glasses off... his eyes fell right to a decorative bow where the woman's legs met. Oh god, his head swooned as he put a hand to his forehead.

"Travling all the way to Niflheim's shrine for a child sprit is a bit much, so... I... I guess I'm stuck with her." He sighed, the sound almost pained. But he kept his hand raised, blocking her from his eyesight. He was embarrassed to look and admire the woman, so he spoke towards the ground between them. "And my name is Cassiel. I come from the Araboth shrine."

Females unsettled him, that much she could be sure of. Lutea chuckled softly, placing her hands in front of her hips politely. Though she truly loved playing, she wasn't really the type to get a rise out of those who became uncomfortable, truly uncomfortable. If there was a hint of pleasure within them, however, it becamea truly fantastic game to get that person to admit it, even if not intelligently by their words. How she adored those little whimpers or hungry looks. <3

Cassiel seemed like he was reluctantly enjoying what his eyes couldn't help to drink in, but he seemed like a stubborn one. She'd have to think carefully of the best ways to make him hungry enough for the warmth she might offer, though her thoughts were cut off at the mentiof of going to Niflheim shrine.

Something hollowed briefly in her eyes, before she smiled politely, a gentle chuckle leaving her lips. "It is a long way, yes...a long way to go when nobody will be there. The shrine is all but gone now, dear Cassiel. You look upon all that is left, really. I'm afraid you should abandon all hope."

Lutea stretched as she paced casually around Cassiel, watching his face carefully. "Why do you want the little one to pass over, anyways? Not all spirits find it best to pass on. You'll just have to find another way to satiate her needs if you can't get her to pass on. Maybe she wants your help with.....something or other." Again, her coy smile, her finger sliding down the bridge of his nose as she stopped in front of him.

The man dropped his arm the moment she mentioned the destruction of Niflheim Shrine. How awful for those people... Even though he had no idea of it's past, he still felt sorrow for what was lost. Surely something tragic had to have happened if a shrine was completely destroyed. For a moment he wondered what course his life would take should his shrine be demolished. But that was so absurd he had to shake that images away.

"It's unfortunate..." He started, fixing his eyes into her own. As long as he looked in those sky blue orbs he could, just barely, ignore all the visible skin. "About the shrine. I'm sure a great loss was felt somewhere." His eyes drifted for a moment, taking in her neckline and - no, eyes up. He was a gentleman, and gentlemen didn't talk to women while staring at their breasts. No matter how pleasing to the eyes they were.

"As for the child, her spirit lingers here for no reason. Should she have a last wish, a desire, anything... I'd do my best to fulfill it and send her on her merry way. However, she's a stubborn child and simply wishes to stay for no other reason just not wanting to go. I tried all day to reason with her but it's difficult to reason with a child." As he explained, he removed the girl form his shoulders. Although he could see her, to Lutea he was simply moving thin air. It wasn't long after the girl touched the ground that she started to swat the blue gems hanging from his cape. They jerked violently from the initial touch before swaying still; only to repeat the action seconds later.

"I was hoping you could help me reason with her. Being a woman, and she a little girl... Perhaps you two would have had more in common. Though, if you can't see her I'm not sure how much of a help you could be." He paused. "Sorry, that came out more offensive than I wanted it to."

"It was inevitable, I suppose." she kept her placid smile, which broadened into almost a smirk as she tried to keep from laughing. He must have been secretly....quite a naughty type, trying so hard to keep from staring at her bosom. Had there not been a child spirit about, she may have pressed herselt against his chest and let him have a closer look.

"Don't worry a silly hair, I didn't take offense. A fact is, afterall, a fact...however," she strode closer, kneeling in front of him at the same level as the little girl's spirit. She could not see her, but her keen hearing picked up on more than her words. She could hear the movements, the pulsing of spirit-light, the subtle breathing even though the child no longer needed to. It was a habit many once-human spirits had, that took them so long to break. "...You'd be surprised how good your other senses become if one is dulled."

She spoke out softly then; a human would see her lips moving and only catch breathy noises occasionally, but another Exorcisma would be able to hear spirit-speak. 'You don't have to go if you don't want to. It's too much fun just staying here, isn't it?' she said to the girl. 'I know I wouldn't want to leave if I died, but I think I'd also be curious what else there is if I passed on. What if....!' her demeanor in her speak changed, it was as if she was a little child herself, playing pretend with another and getting excited over some crazy idea she thought of for their pretend-game. 'What if there were ponies everywhere, not just regular ponies, but ones with crazy big wings that ate only donuts and evil men! We could pretend we were some kind of knights and ride them around everywhere~' Lutea's demeanor sulked suddenly, and she lowered her gaze to the ground. 'But I won't be able to see what it's like for a long time still...Say... If you ever decide to go, maybe you could write me a note from there, and tell me what's over there. I hope the man-eating ponies will be there...!'

It was really the best she could muster, though it was more or less sincere. Lutea didn't believe in forcing a spirit to pass on... forcing them out of a location they didn't belong in was one thing, but besides that, well. They had as much right to be here as she did, she figured.

Cassiel went to say something but fell silent as Lutea once again approached him. He could do nothing but stand there as he watched the girl crouch at his side, cocking his head to the side. But his eyes shifted from the other exorcisma to the small child at his side. Honestly, he did feel guilty trying to urge her into passing, but he really didn't want a child haunting him either.

As Lutea spoke to her, Emmalee gripped the fabric of Cassiel's trousers. Her energy shifted, giving off a fearful emotion as Lutea started to speak to her. But as the woman began to paint a picture of what lied in wait for her, Emmalee seemed to get more comfortable. "Ponies?" She asked at first, a small smile coming to her face. She liked ponies. "M-maybe there's sheep too... made of... of... marshmallows!" Now she was into it, her eyes wide with fascination. Reaching out, Lutea would feel her little hands clutch one of hers. "And flowers made of cotton candy! And... And... Maybe the sky is green and the grass is blue!" But when Lutea mentioned not being able to see it, she frowned and tightened the hold upon Lutea's hand. "Why can't you come with me?" She asked, a sudden sadness in her voice. "If you come with me then I will go. I dun wanna go by myself." Ah, so that was it. The small child was staying behind because she was too frightened to go by herself!

Cassiel smiled softly, already forming a plan in his mind now. While Lutea distracted the girl, he could summon the gateway to crossing over. Though, he never tried to summon it off his shrine before. He doubted his ability to summon it without the backing of the spiritual energy and sacred ground. But if he succeeds in bringing it, he could ask the girl to describe it, warm her up to and send her over on the ruse of returning to tell them what in fact awaited them. He knew she'd never double back; it was a one-way trip. Already he felt the guilt rising in his heart. He didn't want to lie to the girl, but it needed to be done.

Slowly he stepped away from the girls, putting a small distance between them. He was looking for a good clear spot to cast his spell while they continued to talk.

Emmalee noticed is movement away, watching him with a frown."Cassiel?" She worried now, releasing Lutea's hand to chase after the man. Again she latched herself onto his leg as she stared up at him. "Cassiel, where are you going? You won't leave me here... will you?"

The male exorcisma smiled down at the girl, reaching to gently pat her upon the head. "I'm not leaving you Emmalee. I told you I wouldn't and I'm a man of my word. But I thought it would be fun to summon that gateway I told you about. This way you can tell us what it looks like. You can even run through to see what it's like, then come back to tell us about it. Lutea and I would love to hear about the ponies and the sheep, isn't that right Lutea?" Gold eyes now peered over at the woman, hoping she would play along.

Lutea's eyes expressed a serious and determined excitement at the mention of blue grass and cotton candy flowers. 'Those would be absolutely incredible.' she spoke to her with the utmost sincerity.

She watched apprehensively as Cassiel moved away, and as he reasoned with the little one, her eyes narrowed and she stood up, scowling in his direction. "You mustn't lie to spirits," she said flatly. "She can't just immediately return, but..." glancing in the direction she heard the presence of the little one, she spoke again in spirit-tongue. '....eventually you will be able to return. Gates that open can't be opened for the same person immediately, so there's a little...waiting time. We can't go with you for this reason, but...it will give you time to explore and find the cotton candy flowers, won't it? You're geting to be a big girl now and you mustn't be afraid anymore. Girls have to be braver than smelly old boys now, don't we? So, we have to grow up a little sooner than them.'

When Lutea looked at him, Cassiel couldn't help but look back. He locked eyes with her, and listened to the tone of her voice change. Oh god. She was angry. If looks could kill he'd be six feet under, if not deeper. But her tone of voice caused the male to look away, diverting his eyes in shame. He almost wished he were the spirit and invisible to Lutea. There were no words to defend him, he was wrong and knew it.

Although a child, she was smart. Emmalee looked between the two of them with a worried look. She didn't know who to believe anymore and gripped the fabric of Cassiel's pants tighter."Why do you want me to go?" She asked, staring u at Cassiel now. "Don't you like me Cassiel?"

"Of course I like you sweetie." He said in the softest voice he could muster, crouching now to get to her level. He'd take her hands into his own, holding them gently. "But, I give up. Lutea is right; I shouldn't lie to you nor force you to cross over. If you don't want to go, then I won't make you." Even though he was smiling for the girl, his voice held a tone that clearly stated he wasn't happy. "So let's say thank you to the pretty lady and head home. Ok?"

Nodding happily, the child ran for Lutea once more. This time it was Lutea's leg that she latched onto with glee. "Did you hear? Cassiel said I can stay with him!" She was happy, it practically radiating from her spirit. "And he thinks you're pretty! Why don't you come back with us?" She asked, tugging on the woman's leg as if to get her to walk. "We can be a family then!"

"Emmalee!" Cassiel's face was a nice shade of red as he stood there. Sure he thought Lutea was beautiful but he didn't need a 4 year olds spirit telling her like that! He just rose a hand to remove his glasses, using his other hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. His blush even crept to the tip of his ears and he didn't feel it fading any time soon. "I'm sure she has better things to do than visit an old shrine."
