It was eerily quiet, with all the students who had gone to the island and staying left the halls bare. But Jack wasn't complaining, having spent a week over at the conquest isle, his ears had been buffetted by the sound of water and light gossip - it was almost like a bubble had lifted around him, a calmness and echoless void that he was relaxing in to.

Sighing softly as he slumped happily in a corner of one of the endless hallways, his tail softly thumped against the floor, which even seemed to mute itself, offering up solace to the Cat King. He was mixed about coming back, he was so content back at the isle - except for that one day that he wouldn't talk about - but coming back to Amityville, even for a moment was. . . nice.

Looking around, he wondered how long this looming silence would last - and how much time should waste before finding Tomoko, or any one else he had missed while he was gone. Frowning at the prospects a little, he slid his hand in to his hoodie sleeve even more, the raw red skin aching from his trial.

Click-clack, click-clack!

Usually the sound of her heels as they hit the floor put a little happiness in Belladonna's heart, but today they did not. Today she was much too busy and much too flustered and much too worried to find any joy in anything so slight as heel clicks. No, today Belladonna was busy getting what affairs should could in order for her return to Amitvyille.
Er, second attempt at a return to Amityville, if one were being precise.
The last "Attempt to Return To Amityville" (as her family was so lovingly calling it) had ended in her being sent straight back home even though she had fulfilled their request. They had only said "Attend school and participate", they did not exclusively say that "participation" meant "go to class". Because Belladonna had participated. She had gone to the Scarentine's Dance and talked to Westy and some others, but after that she had also... Retreated back to her room for a full week.
Her parent's hadn't liked that.

But one couldn't really blame the poor witch. All her old friends had been busy with other things and she had been gone so long that they weren't ready to pick back up in fear that she would leave again. And, as it turned out, she had. Which was a disappointment not only to the other members in the Divine family, but to Belladonna too. The Divine's had wanted their last daughter to graduate with full honors and blow her sisters out of the metaphorical scholarly waters. Belladonna had just wanted friends.
Unfortunately, if things did not change soon, the witch would fail in both regards.

Nevertheless, it was time for one more try.
The only problem this time around was getting the official stamp of approval from the faculty. And that proved incredibly difficult since the witch could find no one! And when she did find someone they could not be bothered to stop and help her. Everyone was mumbling about a trip or something... And Belladonna had had enough of trips. At least for right now.
So, at the moment, she was click-clacking her way down the hallway toward whatever office she could find with whatever teacher she could coerce into letting her stay on campus. Again.....Again.

"Oh!" The witch mumbled mostly to herself as she spotted someone down the hallway, a slumped figure against the wall. Well, even if they were asleep they wouldn't be soon. "Oh, excuse me!" She called to the mysterious slumped person as she click-clacked a little faster down the hall toward them.

Click, clack, click, clack.

A sound so familiar that Jack had to make sure he was sitting still, the heels of his own shoes permanently glued to the floor. Sure, he wasn't the only person to wear heels, but it was a conforting sound - something that he himself was lulled toward - beckoning the cat to look toward it.

"Oh, Belladonna!" He blurted out, a lilt of happiness in his voice, he hadn't seen the witch in such a long time that his mouth was moving faster than his sleepy mind, but he was excited to see her again. The arrival of his old friend had given him a burst of energy that he didn't know he had. "It's been too long," he peeped out, his hands already out and reaching out to her lightly, subconsciously ready incase something were to happen, his raw hand out, and stinging again from the fresh air.

And he was right in his statement, having misplaced his reaper friend after she had graduated to year two - it had been so long that he himself had graduated year one, and had become . . scruffier, and admittedly a little taller than he rememebered . . . he hoped he didn't put her off with his changes in look.

"How can I help you?" He murmured softly, happy to help her.

Even though she heard her name, even though it had been spoken in a voice she knew, the witch still couldn't stop the loud "UWAAAHHH!!!!" that broke from her as a hand reached out to her. She tottered back from the shape, her mind playing all sorts of tricks on her before she gained some balance and stopped and looked at the person.
And looked at them a little bit longer.
And then she threw herself to the floor and them in a hug that seemed more like a tackle.

"OH JACKB!!!" Maybe her shout was a little dramatic, but once the witch realized this she ripped herself from him to sit back on her knees and look him over, her hands outstretched and placed on his shoulders. "You've grown! And you have facial hair! Its so nice!" Its so attractive! "Its been forever!!"
Then she stopped and her hands momentarily tightened on his shoulders. "Have you... Have you been ok? Has anything happened to you?"
There had been so much that the witch had heard of with students going missing or being attacked, or worse, so she couldn't help but be a little exuberant in her questioning.

Once she realized he wasn't going to jump up and starting prancing the halls with her, Belladonna took a deep breath and let some of her excitement go. She shouldn't be feeling this happy. She had essentially abandoned him when she confined herself to her dorm room and then again when she'd left the school. In fact, Jackb might very well be very angry with her. He was just too polite to say anything.
"Help me?" The witch cocked her head and let go of his shoulders as she repositioned herself on the ground in front of him. "Oh yeah! Ha ha, don't worry about it." She waved a hand at him and smiled. "Oh my Hecate, its been so long. How are you??" Pink eyes bright and her overall bouncy, even the negative thoughts that wanted her could not dim this happiness.

"Oomph." Was all he could come out with when realization dawned on her - her lit up face all he could see before she rushed him, almost forcing him down, he jarred his hands backwards to keep them afloat, a new fresh ache crushing up his arm, but it didn't matter, he was reuniting with his train-friend, and this was more important that the seering pain.

The stare-down she initiated made him squirm just a little under her hands, but he stood still, wild smile on his face as she chirruped loudly at him, stating everything from how long it had been since they saw each other, to his looks, to everything - he couldn't get a word in, but he allowed it. "Yes, yesss, I decided it looked better." he started, answering the facial haire question. "Yes, it's been such a long time since we saw each other - I was starting to wonder." He snipped in, before her face sobered up a little, and she regarded him with a more serious question. "You've changed also."

"I have been okay, I'm alive, and mostly safe." He answered softly, adjusting himself so he could take the pressure off his hands as she sat back, her hands still on his broad shoulders, which was kind of comforting - it helped him recognize that she was truly in front of him. "I watched the trials, I stayed close to the shadows, the only thing I've done recently was go to the Isle of Conquest. . ." he trailed softly, looking down at his raw, bandaged hand, his face quirking a bit, before showing her. "Worse I've done to myself, which, safe to say, is still pretty bad."

He ached so much, but that would come around later, he'd answer any questions she was willing to ping at him, content to talk to her again.

The look of pain did not register with Belladonna and she continued on, hands fluttering in their excitement.
"It does look very nice." The witch agreed and gave a soft almost-pout when he mentioned starting to wonder. Many people had probably started to wonder about her too, but she doubted most of them would receive her as warmly as Jackb currently was. As for the changes... "Oh, pish! Tosh! I haven't changed much at all. My hair has gotten longer and my boobs got bigger--" Errr, Jackb was totally a boil. Maybe she shouldn't have said that. Was he the kind of boil who liked ghouls or did he like boils? The witch couldn't recall as they had never really discussed it, so she hurried on. "And I look taller, but I've only just started wearing higher heels." So, not really changed. At least physically. Inwardly the witch had gotten more... Cautious, about certain things, but right now she didn't feel cautious at all!

"Mostly safe?" A stab of worry punctured Belladonna's excitement and she stilled her own hurried movements as she listened to him. She had heard about the Trials, which had seemed awful on their own, but he too went to The Four Islands? And then... "Oh my Hecate," she began softly, her own hands suddenly drawn up as though she wanted to touch his hurt one, but knew better. "What happened? Are you alright? Does it hurt?"

Instantly the witch raced through her litany of spells in search of one that dulled pain. Did she know any? Even if she didn't, he could just tell her what kind of injury it was and she could certainly find a plant to soothe it. With her eyebrows set, the witch looked almost scary, but more in a 'Please don't make me eat any nasty plants' sort of way...

Certainly later on the two would reconcile their woes and be able to retain their joy, but for the moment Belladonna grew quiet and serious. So much had happened since she had last seen him, it had felt... Forever. It had been so long, it had certainly been before all the bad things had happened. It had been before... Everything.

It took a few moments for the cat to register what she had just blurted out, a moment of dumb-struck showing on his face before his face cracked and he started laughing out loud, putting his bandaged hand on his his forehead, letting the laughter out, which rung out in the quiet hall before he wound down, the smile still on his face.

"Yes, you have definitively grown in to a fine young lady, Bells." He concluded, grinning ear to ear at her. "I'm sure you'll have many gentlemen callers when they find out that Belladonna Divine has returned to the scene." He murmured. She was definitively a pretty reaper, with a strength behind her that Jack didn't see very much now-a-days - a good friend through and through since they met on the trains. He hoped she'd stick around longer this time, but didn't voice it out to her, quite yet.

Looking at his own hand in question, his face squished up softly, nose crinkling up in the movemen, like a child finding out something they didn't like. "The trials available on the great islands are pretty difficult - I basically got in a fight with an eloquent bear trap."He answered, truthfully.

The witch visibly blushed at this as she ducked her face and delicately rubbed the back of her neck. While she was sure that Jackb was being kind, it was still something that she wasn't totally comfortable with yet. The idea of dating someone, while exciting, was stilla bit of a sore subject, even after all this time.
"Gentleman callers? Oh I highly doubt it. It would be lovely, but I do not think anyone remembers me..." Except Jackb, of course.
There was one boil she was particularly fond of and had texted a little while everyone was away on the trip, but she wasn't sure she could call him a 'caller'.
She wasn't even sure what she could call him at all anymore...

"An eloquent bear trap?!" Belladonna nearly shrieked as she slapped her hands over her mouth. That sounded dreadful! "Well, I am glad it only hurt your hand..."
For a moment the witch only sat there in all her poofy skirts and twisted the edge of a peaked out petticoat before she hazard a glance up at Jackb.
"Besides the eloquent bear trap... How are you?" She had asked the question earlier, but with a hand on his good forearm accompanied with a squeeze, it suddenly took on a whole new meaning.

It didn't really mean 'tell me about your day', so much as 'tell me anything that has gone wrong so that I can sympathize with you'. Because, if the rumors she had heard were true, there was quite a lot to have gone wrong.

"Don't be so hard on yourself." He murmured to her as she physically dimmed a little, the admittance that she wasn't sure who would have remembered her set the cat's jaw in place. Belladonna was definitively someone who set an impression in people's minds - a bubbly girl with a content personality. . . and she liked cats! There was nothing wrong with her at all. "If anything, I'll always be here to remember you. We'll be friends for a long while yet - you've been my constant anchor in situations, such as the trains." He pointed out, giving a small shiver at the memories of those blasted things. "Also, you have a bright personality, even if you meet new people, I'm sure you'll strike it well with them."

Giving her a reassuring smile, he tried to liven the mood again, pushing himself up in to a more comfortable sitting position, his tail lashing slowly out from behind him, flickering a few times to get the blood flowing through it again, having being stagnent for so long behind the cat-god as he thought of how to express himself further, her onslaught of questions coming to him quickly, and the squeeze of his forearm just warmed him up further.

It was always nice to have someone who worried about you.

"It was a very pretty bear-trap. It had these orbs in them, very shiny - like as if someone knew me personally and had set up the trials." He offered up, grinning wildly. He still had the orbs, and wouldn't allow them to take it back, asking to keep the charms as a fortune charm, along side the talisman he had received. "But, beyond that, it's been okay. Nothing severe like we've had before, Bells. I did some interesting classes and saw some lovely sights while I was on the Conquest Island - I've just been so tired since I came back. It takes a lot out of you." He stated.

"Amity side, I had to leave for a bit, but came back to find that things have changed - I had to get my feet wet again - I even got to see the human world once!" He chirped, realization dawning on him from the field trip. "To be honest, if Tomoko hadn't been around to help me get back in the groove, I'd probably be lost still, though."

It was safe to say that the Kitsune was almost his savior of a sort, keeping him on his feet and helping him re-kindle friendships and learn a-new.

When Jackb said such nice, kind things, it was hard to be down about oneself, or even feel poorly, so Belladonna gave him a small, sheepish smile and nodded her head once. She mumbled a soft 'thank you' and resolved not to be sad anymore. Jackb was a wonderful friend and had always been there for her during the train rides. He had always pulled her out of her despair and made her feel much better. Maybe he was a natural at it?
"You need to stop getting hurt on field trips." Belladonna told him in an almost scolding voice.
He had gotten hurt on the first train ride, had stayed in the injured tent after the train to Christmastown crashed and now this? Goodness, why did the nice ones always have to get hurt?

But then he started describing the eloquent bear trap and though Belladonna tried to picture what it would look like for Jackb (most likely some variation of green in there), all she could imagine were diamonds and pink.
"It does sound rather lovely... " If Jackb had been tricked into touching this trap, then it was very lucky for the witch that she had gone home and not attended the field trip. It could have turned out very poorly for her, indeed.
And just as Belladonna was about to pat his arm when he mentioned not experiencing anything as traumatic as their shared pasts, he said something else that made the witch stop. Though she blurted it out, she said it softly, a little hesitantly, as though she didn't really believe him.
"You left the school too?"

If Jackb had taken time off... Than surely it wasn't something to be ashamed of. It wasn't something that the witch should continue to hold onto like a ghost or a scar.
And the human world?! Oh Hecate! That sounded... Actually rather fun. Belladonna had always wanted to visit the Human World, just to see what all the fuss was about.
"What was the human world like? I've never been, but I'd like to visit... Scare somebody, maybe." She paused and pursed her lips for a moment as she thought. Tomoko... Tomoko... Didn't ring a bell. "Is Tomoko your ghoul-friend? I don't know her!"

"Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm becoming a masochist." He said non-chalauntly, raising his hands in a "who knows" position, a wild grin plastered on his face - he couldn't help but play, he lowered his arms after a few moments, tilting his head left and right softly. "I don't intend to go places to get hurt, I didn't when I went to view the Trials, nor the human world, so I think I just have arse luck when it's important." He admitted.

Leaning against his corner again, he curled his hands together to form a ball, letting it rest in his lap as he listened to her, his face staying soft and content as she riddled off. He was comfortable here, with people he knew, and seeing her still so lively and content was good enough for him. After a few moments, his tail started thumping softly beside him, keeping time with a song not even begun.

"I did leave the school for a bit." He murmured, leaning his head back and looking away for a moment. "My past tried to catch up to me, and I decided to give him the slip for a few years more. I wasn't ready for it, you know what I mean?" He murmured, not trying to give too much away. He was not ready to conquer his past, or come close to comfort with it, so he just sort of made a short shrug.

"When I came back, it was nice to know that there were people around; so I understand where you're coming from." He offered up, before her last struck him in the feelings, he lurched forward a bit, snorting softly. A giggle wracked him quickly, he put his hands up, palm out.

"No, no. Tomo is more of a close friend!" He chirped out, blushing profusely at the idea. "I care about her a lot though, she keeps me company and helps me get through things. Like mornings, waking up, and homework. Electronics. That kind of stuff."

At the humorous mention of being a masochist, Belladonna screwed her face up into a strange pouting-frown and forcefully shook her head. It was supposed to mean 'But you're so nice! Please do try to stop getting hurt because it would be very sad, indeed, if something dreadful happened to you'! But whether or not all that got across was another matter entirely. Finally, the witch only nodded once in agreement with the idea that he didn't intend to get hurt, it just happened.
It seemed a common occurrence of these trips, but lately Belladonna had started to wonder about the casualties. How many more? Or would it ever stop?

Thankfully, her depressing thoughts were banished with the flick of Jackb's tail and Belladonna couldn't stop herself as a hand shot out and touched the fur. It was so soft! And she recalled her holding it through most of their Krumm Car experience, so she didn't really think he'd have a problem with it.
It was good that she had decided to pet it when he got a little quiet and spoke of his past and its attempt to catch him. It was extremely difficult not to jump up and start demanding answers for the cryptic way he was speaking, but as Belladonna listened she reasoned it would do her no good. Already it seemed a point of contention with the boil, and she certainly didn't want to agonize him over it further.
And besides all that, it wasn't really her place to demand answers. She wasn't awfully close to him (though she wished one day they would be better friends), so it was just be prying at this point if she asked.
So, she finally settled on a soft smile and a mumbled, "I understand."

"Just a close friend? She sounds like a ghoulfriend to me." The witch mused for a moment, her mouth turned in a skeptic manner. "But you're blushing! Does that mean you like her? If you do, you should tell her! Or maybe not directly tell her, but let her know." Here she paused and her own cheeks got a little pink. "Its better to know that someone likes you than to just be stuck in limbo about the whole thing!" Her tone was one of lecture, but her face seemed to belie the fact that she was speaking from experience.

"Just a close friend." He admitted, almost as-a-matter-of-factly. Jack couldn't help but start picking at invisible lint on the pads of his bandaging, something to keep his attention as Belladonna held his tail, which idly flickered at the end at times whilst they conversed, the black and green fur highlighting her pale skin.

"I don't think I'm a very suitable Gentleman Caller, persay."He started, screwing his face up a little as he went to his bandaging again, glowing eyes fixtated on his invisible infatuated. "I'll probably chase dreams and follow the wind when I'm old enough and graduated - I'm my father's son, I can't be in one place too long," he admitted, before snickering, "except here, of course."

"I won't impose myself on anyone, I'd rather someone was content with their life than expecting a wandering Cat-god to find himself in their neck of the woods again. I wouldn't want to be that guy who ruins someone life because I couldn't leave the environment I was raised in, you know?" He admitted, feeling shy again, his face flushing again. He was going to probably be by himself for the rest of his years, and he knew it - it had been a decision he had made when he was younger. . . probably more foolish also, but he didn't want to disappoint the Jack of the Past.

"Unless they come to me, I suppose, but I'm not bothered much." He stated, looking at her, cracking a normal-ish smile - he didn't want her to worry about him, or his lack-luster love-life too much. He'd survive - he had been for years already.

Careful not to pull or snag anything on his tail, the witch idly petted it as she listened to Jackb talk about his personal affairs. Though they were friends, she couldn't help but treat him like a cat every so often and just give him a good pet and hoped that he'd purr for her. Maybe his explanation was a bit of a purr. A cat's purr was almost like a reward for being kind to them, so though she continued to softly pet him, she listened too.
And what he said wasn't very optimistic.

While he talked the witch started to pout ever so slightly, like a petulant child who isn't entirely happy with whatever it is the adult is telling them. So when he was finished, Belladonna looked up at him with a curious gaze.
"I understand all that... But it seems to me... That Miss Tomoko has come to you and shall continue to do so." Here the witch held up a finger as she explained herself. "You said she helps you with waking up and other things, but she also seemed to wait for you to come back. You're still close, even though you've been gone. And even if you weren't close before, surely she is well enough in your confidence that you have explained all this her. And though I don't know the girl, I'm sure she likes you enough to follow you wherever you go, so long as you ask her." At this, Belladonna gave him a small, hopeful smile.

But she mentioned nothing of the fact that he might not have any actual feelings for this mysterious, but surely very adorable, girl. Belladonna only assumed because he blushed and if she were wrong, well... Whoops.
But she just couldn't shake the feeling that she were right and perhaps she could help Jackb see that and in so, help him be a little bit happier.

A smile grew on his face as he listened to the witch riddle off her ideals to him, comfortable in her presense as he allowed her to ramble. It wasn't something that he was hoping to do in the future, but he was content in knowing that someone was rooting for his happiness, which ever it would be.

Patting her hands softly on his tail, he gave her a little shrug, smile never wavering. "I am not sure what my future brings, I'm not a fan of dabbling in that kind of thing. I'll just let what may come, come." He offered up. "It doesn't bother me, Bells, as long as I have people who I can trust and care for me, I'll be happy." He stated, and it was true. Jack was too much of a wandeirng soul, and he knew it. If something were to come his way, he'd worry about it then.

Giving a little stretch, he looked down to her again, green eyes glowing softly in the hallway. "I want to hear about my Bells finding someone special for her if she does though. I'm sure you'll find a good person who'll treat you right." He stated, giving her a smile before his eyes hardened.

"If anyone tries to do you wrong though, come to ole' Jack and I'll show them a what-for, since we're totally bonded from our Train adventures. I got your back." He promised, crossing his heart with a claw, before laying back again. "I'm feeling much better though."
