Frozenheart impatiently tapped his paws on the ground. That and alternating between pacing like a mad dog were keeping him busy. Though not busy enough to keep the bad thoughts away.

What if she'd decided against meeting him?

What is she got hurt?

What if she was with another male laughing about him, right this very second?!

Groaning in his head, he shook the bad thoughts away and rose his head to the air. It was only dusk, or sometime near it. He didn't have to be so impatient with her. She would show up, when she was here and he just had to be OK with that. But the jitters remained, despite his common sense. He couldn't help it, he was a dog in love and you just didn't mess with a dog in love.

Paws flying she raced across the grassy plain. Her scouting trip had taken fa longer than she had planned, having run across a pride of hostile lions when she had been on her way back to the pack, she had been forced to take a very wide detour to avoid catching the horrible creatures attentions. It had added considering distance to her return trip and the sun had suddenly decided to move faster through the sky as she raced across the ground, as if punishing her for being so cocky as to think she knew how things worked in the world and had not expected anything so big as a group of lions to crop up between her and home.

Panting hard she stretched her sleek body even lower to the ground, legs pumping as she struggled to make up the time she had lost. She had been so looking forward to seeing Frozenheart that evening, but she feared he would have grown bored and left long ago... for who would hang about when the one they were meeting was rude enough to be late?

A soft, breathless whine of stress escaped her as she scrambled round a corner in the path and darted through a thick scrub of thorn bushes, bursting out the other side only to almost run smack into the very dog she had been thinking of. Swerving at the last possible moment she lost her footing and went tumbling across the ground to end up in a dusty, panting heap up against the trunk of an ancient beo beo tree.

Slumping over the ground with a wince she nervously cracked one eye open, worried she had hurt him in her mad dash. Goodness.. what was he going to think of her... arriving in such a manner...

The first thing to catch his attention was the sound of sticks crunching under paws. The second, was the crazy blur of brown and gold that tumbled past him at a blinding rate. For a moment he merely stood there, not really sure what he had seen, but then the scent captured his senses and he went into panic mode.

Making a dash for her side, Frozenheart gently bent down beside her. His eyes quickly scanning her over for cuts or abrasions, he saw nothing. But he feared it might be what he couldn't see that would be the worst. Chills ran down his spine at the thought, and he lowered his head to her's gently. "A-Are you OK! You came out of nowhere, what on Earth were you doing?" The questions came out very quickly and without warning. Almost as though he were chastising her for being so careless with her running. But he wasn't, he was just fearful of losing the one thing that actually understood him.

"Can you stand? You didn't hurt anything did you?" His Mother hen antics continued as he looked her in the eyes expecting an honest answer.

For a long moment she stared up at him, slumped on her back against the trunk where she had tumbled, all four paws in the air. Surprise and shock filled her expression at his worried tone and the gentle nuzzle he gave her. He wasn't angry at her! Relief and joy spilled through her as she suddenly blushed brightly, forelimbs reaching up to wrap about his shoulders in an almost frantic grip.

"I'm so sorry!" She cried, hanging onto him tightly even as a bright, vivid blush burned across her cheeks. "I thought you might not be here so I came as fast as I could. Thank you!" Sniffling as relief filled her, body going limp with the emotion though she did not lose her grip on him, though let it relax so she wasn't clinging so tightly.

"I-I'm fine... I had to avoid some lions so it took a lot longer to get back, I was afraid you wouldn't wait for me..." Releasing him at last she folded her forelegs over her chest, still resting on her back submissively as she gazed up at him pleadingly, hoping he would forgive her tardiness and embarrassed at her own actions. But she couldn't help the way her heart jumped when ever she thought of him, and when she imagined him not being there for her she had panicked blindly. He was special and she didn't want to loose him.

Her instant apologies quickly took him off guard, he had no idea what she was apologizing for, and for a split second he worried she might have bumped her head. Which of course led, to his awkward physical head rub, to check for bumps he may have missed on a visual scan. He let out an audible sigh of relief once he realized she still seemed perfectly healthy. He could feel her fur warming a bit as she gripped her paws tightly around his shoulders. But he wasn't worried about that, he'd noticed that even his fur seemed to get warmer on occasion so he simply brushed it off, and listened to Lightfoot's frantic words. As he listened, he slowly began to realize she had been going through the same mental panic as he had.

He giggled slightly at first, but was soon in an awkward giggle fit as he tried to fight back the urge. He knew she would be looking at him strange by now, and so maybe it was time to explain. "I'm no- I'm not laughing at you - I promise!" He smiled nuzzling her cheek once more. "It's just, that I feel the exact same way. I was worried you weren't going to show up either." Slowly he found his way back to a normal tone of voice, but not before a few high pitched notes slipped into the conversation.

As Lightfoot loosened her grip, Frozenheart placed a gentle lick right across her cheek. A comforting gesture to let her know it would be all right. "I would wait for you, as long as it took. Nothing could have drug me from this spot." With a solid matter of fact nod, he smiled once more down at her. "But you -" He adjusted himself so that his nose was even with her, and poked her gently with his. "Have to be more careful. What would the pack have done without it's swiftest pair of feet?" He paused a moment letting his words sink in - "And what would I have done without the light that always finds me in the dark?"

The sudden press of his fur against her own as he rubbed their heads together made her words come sputtering to a stop, a deep blush spreading across her face to make her muzzle glow. His giggling confused her and yet, she felt relief that he was not angry at her. Not that she expected him to be angry, he was not that kind of dog, but she was still worried she may upset him somehow. Yet he seemed as relieved as her and then he explained, between giggles, that he had indeed felt as she did...

Sagging where she lay she finally let a soft, warm smile curl across her muzzle at his words. He wasn't going to leave her.... even if she was late.... Blushing still she herself giggled softly as he poked their noses together, making her want to melt into a puddle of happiness at his feet, not that she could get any lower as it was.. He was so amazing, loving and gentle with her. His words made her heart sing and a shy, tender smile warm her expression, for although she was not very good with voicing her thoughts, her expression was a clear as a warm spring morning and her feelings for him were clear in her gaze. "I'm sorry... I will be more careful next time." Reaching up with her forepaws again, she gently caught him round the shoulders and pulled him down to her, so she could nuzzle against the warm fur of his chest.

"I don't know what I'd do without you.... " Blushing she hid against him, her heart filled with warmth and happiness. Never had she imagined she would ever feel like this when she first arrived at the pack's boarder, but now, she could not imagine a life without Frozenheart in it.

Watching that warm, bright smile spread across her face was all it would ever take for him to forgive her. That is, if he was the grudge holding type, which he wasn't. He was far more carefree and footloose. He enjoyed every moment with Lightfoot, but if he had to truly put a number on best moments, this one would make the top of the list. Just being alone with her, and being able to witness those rare moments that she didn't share with the pack. That was what it was all about.

As she pulled him down to her level, he couldn't help but let out a blissful sigh. He'd never been this happy in his life! Not even when he helped those around him. This was a bliss, that was entirely on it's own level. "Well, you would be careful of course." he patted her lightly with his tail. "Because even if I am not here with you physically, my spirit will always be with you." It was a corny line, but it was how he felt, because he couldn't imagine himself without her by his side either. From nearly day one of his life, she had been at the front of his mind, and he couldn't picture her not being there now. "Truthfully, I don't quite know what I would do without you either. You have always been a focus in my life, and now that I have you back - i'm not all that willing to give you way." Frozenheart could hear his heartbeat rising as he spoke, and he knew she would take note of it. "And I imagine it's kind of hard to fight your destiny. Which, is what I think this is. I think - you were meant to find me as a pup. Then as an adult, I was meant to find you." Nodding along with his words Frozenheart continued. "When the gods hand you something this perfect. You can't just give it away."

As he settled against her, she squirmed about until she rested comfortably against him rather than the tree, her head across his paws so she could stay close. Giggling at his words she felt the blush warm her fur again. "Where ever you go, I will follow..." She murmured shyly in return, knowing her reply was as corny as his original comment but simply couldn't bring herself to care.

As he turned serious, she tilted her head, gazing up at him with a kind of soft shy expression, eyes full of feeling. He was claiming her... actually claiming her as his own. She felt happiness wash like sunlight through her body and make her toes tingle. His last words made her blush so hard she was certain he would feel the heat radiating from her face. Lowering her gaze which put her eye-level with his chest, she fumbled for words. "I-I agree... I know I don't deserve this happiness, but I don;t want to ever give it away... I... " Stuttering to a halt she buried her face in his chest, pressing close in embarrassment. "I want to stay with you.." She mumbled from somewhere in his fur.

The corny comment didn't seem at all that to the male, it was flattering and it gave him a sense of grounding. Something he had been searching for all of his life. A feeling that someone wanted him for who he was, and not what could he could do for them. "And I you." He smiled a broad smile and nuzzled his face lovingly against hers. He could feel her fur warming, and thought for a fleeting second, that he was glad she was warm. The sun had finally set, and the cool air was quickly filing in around them.

Her words, caught him off guard however and he shifted his position slightly so that he could get a better look at her. All things considered, she looked entirely sincere that she didn't deserve him, or apparently happiness in general. He was confused by it, entirely confused. How could someone so selfless, be so undeserving? For a moment, he contemplated correcting her, but perhaps hearing her out was a more logical step. "I don't get it." He interrupted quickly, not entirely to be rude. "How can you feel as though you are this undeserving? You are a very selfless wild dog, and I have experienced this first hand. Why do you think you don't deserve happiness?" He nuzzled her lightly once more, hoping to pry an answer out of her. "You should never think that about yourself, I won't let you." And with those words, he placed a paw tightly across her chest and smiled. "Feel free to try and stop me." He giggled lightly.

Feeling him shift above her, she finally peeked up from the safety of his furry chest to sneak a glance at his expression, feeling her heart constrict at the look of concern she saw there.

A rich, warm blush slowly crawled up her neck to bloom on her face as he spoke, at first confused, then chastising, then with an almost cheeky challenge that made her heart skip lightly. He cared... he truly cared about her.. Swallowing the lump of emotion that had lodged itself in her throat, she ducked her head back into the relative safety of his thick fur. Shrugging one shoulder a little awkwardly, considering she was on her back and stretched half over his forepaw now, she took a deep breath, tasting him on the air, his warmth flowing though her as she breathed him in, settling and reassuring her that he was real, he was there, and he was hers...

"I don't know... I just don't feel like I am..." She finally answered, her voice so soft it was barely audible, but then she felt the solid, strong weight of his paw over her chest and a soft giggling breath escaped her as she finally looked up to meet his gaze more confidently, her insecurities seeming to fall away under the strength of his conviction. She may not feel as i she deserved such happiness, but she was damn sure she wasn't going to ruin his in anyway... and if that meant accepting the gift of him without question, she was more than happy to do so.

"I don't wish to try... I only wish to stay with you..." Leaning up she shyly licked his muzzle lightly, her own amber moon eyes shimmering with emotion. She had taken a massive step in becoming the adult she had always strived towards.... someone he could be proud of to keep at his side.

A strong feeling of warmth swept over the male's body as he lie there next to his mate. Nothing in the world could make him happier at this moment - he was more than sure of that. Well - his thoughts were cut short as Lightfoot spoke up once more. He would be much happier if she could see how deserving she really was of happiness. He knew no amount of words would be enough to persuade her otherwise. But within his heart he truly wished she would. Perhaps one day he would make her realize just how special she was. But for now, even if he didn't like it, he would allow her to keep her feelings.

"Well .. I may not be able to see the future, but I don't foresee myself leaving..." He paused a moment a licked Lightfoot's cheek gently. "And even if you left, I would follow you for as long as I could." He smiled boldly, as an airy laugh slipped through his lips. "So I guess that means, we're stuck with each other!" Frozenheart ended the sentence abruptly trying o catch her slightly off guard. He enjoyed seeing the silly faces she'd make.

"And I wouldn't have it any other way."

Suddenly blushing brightly, she hid her face against his furry chest. She had no idea how she had ended up with this amazing male, or this feeling of pure, exultant happiness, but she hoped they never went away.

"Me either." She whispered against his warm coat, contented and happy.
