So.
...She was a penguin now.
A long, sleek penguin with..purple eyes. Penguins didn't usually have violet eyes, did they? It didn't matter, because Candace did. And Candace was a penguin now. A real penguin, not just she thought she was a penguin.
For now she was just trying to get used to waddling around, flailing her little flippery arms as she stumbled and waddled through the snow. This was so awkward.

A long time had gone by, Jerry knew that much. He... should have turned back, right? Turned back to... what though. It was getting increasingly difficult to think about anything but his rumbling tummy and the idea of glorious fish the longer time had stretched on. Nice big fat ones. None of the tall creatures he had been- he stopped himself mid waddle, shaking his head again but careful not to lose the glasses they had set back on him once he had set off so he could at least see... but they were growing increasingly unnerving. His friends. Right. Humans- shut up, fellow hunters....
You are seriously losing your mind, aren't you? an unfamiliar voice grumbled in the back of his head, but it was getting difficult to recognize the words.
Where was he going again?
Right. Fish.
I'm going to make sure you remember all of this, guy. Roar was in stitches.
Hip-ho, he waddled forward, mind buzzing numbly, but honestly... he felt happy. Light. He wanted to go for a swim.
And maybe find some fish.
He passed by tents and busy people who ignored him, flippers spread proudly as he marched forth on his search, but paused when he spotted... oh! Another one like him! Maybe this other penguin knew a good fishing spot? He had been waddling around the camp for what felt like forever, but hadn't spotted a sign of water. She had very pretty feathers, too, nice and shiny, and the right amount of fat placement to warrant good egg laying qualities.
Maybe she'd go find fish for him? That's what girls were for, right?
He paused just in front of her, twisting his head this way and that to try to get a clearer look through the scratched lenses of the glasses.

Unlike certain other hunters-turned-penguin, Candace still was well aware of who she was. She was Candace Pennington, a badass Intermediate Mist hunter trainee who had a smoking hot body and a pretty face. She was not some strange little penguin with a very mild craving for fish. That was weird! She had eaten so much food! How could she be craving fish? Maybe it was a side effect.
She was still trying to get a hang of this waddling thing when she spotted another penguin nearby. A penguin that was staring at her.
...Those glasses looked familiar. How did that penguin get Jerry's glasses? Damnit! Was he stuck somewhere blind now? That ******** idiot. She squawked, hopping through the snow closer to the other penguin until she was close enough to crane her neck up so she could nudge curiously at his glasses with her beak. Yup, those were Jerry's glasses.
Annnnnd those were scars.
...
Jerry was a penguin? No ******** way. That couldn't be Jerry.
Candace just stared, blinking and tilting her head to one side. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Not all penguins were flawless.

Ah! She wasn't leaving! That was a good sign. He puffed out his chest, tilting his head to one side before stating, very flatly in fluent Penguin, "Fish?"

Okay, maybe it wasn't really Jerry. It wanted fish. It just happened to have Jerry's glasses and scars in a similar placement.
Yeah, let's roll with that. Candace was glad she was a penguin right now and had limited facial features with which to express herself with. He wanted fish...but she had no idea where the closest source of water to fish in was. Wait, why was she even considering this? That's ridiculous. They can't go in the water just anywhere a killer whale or a leopard seal could get them--what the hell why did those thoughts cross her mind?!
There was a chuckle in the back of her head. Atropos was amused.
No, she wouldn't be getting him any fish. It was too dangero--stop thinking like that!
Well.
Maybe...
It was kind of cute how he puffed out his chest, too. It was adorable. Were she human she'd be hugging him right now. "Fish where?"

Omgomg she responded, she responded she responded oh god- he fluttered his flippers, dancing back and forth a moment in excitement before suddenly waddling away frantically. She was going to get him fish! She was going to get him fish oh goodness oh goodness all he needed was to seal the deal, he didn't know why, but he could feel it in his gizzard. He poked along the tents, head tilting this way and that as he glanced around at a discarded boot here, a cantine there, no no no useless, useless, all of it, except- THERE! Where someone had built a firepit!
He could hardly contain his excitement, nearly losing his glasses as he nipped at the precious object, fluttering his flightless wings as though it would help him go faster as he waddled back towards her, reverently sitting it at her feet.
"Fish?" He exclaimed hopefully.

Suddenly the other penguin was flipping his ever loving s**t with joy, and Candace stumbled back a little as she watched him dance around and waddle away. He seemed to be in search of something. What was he looking for..? She waited patiently if only because she was very curious about what this search of his.
The other penguin returned, placing something at her feet.
A rock.
He just...gave her a rock.
Candace tried to remember what this meant, all she could think of was that this rock brought her an inexpiable feeling of joy and happiness. She leaned down and nudged the rock with the tip of her beak, tilting her head this way and that as she inspected the rock. Why was she inspecting the rock? She knew it was a rock. But it smelled nice, like a camp fire. She did so love the smell of camp fires and fireplaces in the dead of winter. It was smooth, too. Very smooth. And it was pretty. She liked this rock. Candace lived it in her beak with a squawk, her feathers puffing as she wiggled her body a bit and then began to waddle away closer to the edge of the camp's perimeter. They had to find fish, right? She wasn't aware of any place to find said fish inside the camp.

What... are you doing, exactly?
I gave her a rock! I gave her a rock and now she'll go get me fish and we'll have an egg and it'll all be amazing and perfect!
Blitzed out of your brain. It's only been a couple hours, man. You're going to pop back human again and be really ******** embarrassed.
The penguin wobbled in place, head shifting this way and that as he tried to process this inner voice.
But... there will be fish, right?
No ******** fish! Okay. What's your name, guy?
The penguin glanced back to the pretty female, only to see her waddling ahead, and he hurried to catch up, quacking aimlessly as they went if only to drown him out.
Alright, idiot, I asked you a question. Only repeatin' myself once.
What a nice Female and he found her so quick oh there was going to be so much fish he could tell. He knocked his glasses off as he tried to experimentally prod at her with his beak, and stopped to stare down at them in the snow. His head twisted. Blurry, it was all blurry now...
Suddenly, his brain exploded with noise, a shrill howl mixed with a hideous barking, and the penguin gave a frantic, terrified quack, stumbling off their path, JERRY JERRY JERRY COLLINS I GOT IT I GOT IT OH GOD STOP!!
His brain went quiet, giving him a moment to try to compose himself.

Candace continued to waddle along, completely unaware of the other penguin's mental argument. She only stopped when she felt him poke at her with his beak, turning in time to watch his glasses fall to the ground. What was wrong?
The other penguin freaked out and she jumped, very nearly dropping the rock held in her beak. Was he okay?! She gently placed the rock down and waddled closer to the other penguin, nudging him with her beak. He was her penguin husband now, she had to look out for his well being. Was he alright? Did he see something dangerous? A bear, perhaps? Were there even bears here?
Why the ******** was she thinking like this. Don't lose yourself, Candace. You're not a damn penguin.

Jerry blinked at her, beady penguin eyes trying to focus on the other penguin, his mind racing. Wait... was... was this another trainee? Or a real penguin? Somehow, wires were crossing- did it really matter if she was full penguin or not?
Hey hey, I'm losing you, kid. Put your damn eyes back on. What's your name?
Sorry... sorry I was just... distracted... he shuffled to try to prod at the glasses with his foot to get them at just the right angle in the snow to poke his beak down and scoop it up onto his head again.
He waddled forward.
And where are you going?
To find-
If you say that word again I swear-
He stopped again to blink at Candace. His mind raced. Crapcrapcrap why did the penguin language seem to have six hundred different ways to say 'Fish'?

He picked up the glasses again and Candace tilted her head. He wasn't okay, was he. Oh dear. She lifted her head to stare back at the other penguin as he watched her.
Uhhh...was..she expected to do something? He began to waddle away, heading for the edge of the barrier.
Oh s**t! Wait! That was bad! Squawking, Candace picked up the rock and quickly chased after her penguin husband, hopping and waddling as fast as she could until she could get in front of him and physically stop him. No! Bad! Badbadbad! It was safe in here. No leaving. Bad husband.
There came more laughter from Atropos.
She needed to distract him...um..oh! How about this! She gently placed the rock down, nudging it toward the other penguin and giving a happy chirping noise. She was returning the sentiment!

Jerry narrowed his eyes down at the rock.
This was not a fish.
Silly girlpenguin. He quacked irritably before adding in a more stern, "Fish."

Geeze! What a bossy and demanding husband! Candace would have pouted if she'd had lips, but alas she only had a beak. She picked up the rock again with a huff and waddled off. She find those fish! Somewhere within the barrier...maybe there was a place where they had fish. Candace started to lure the other penguin back toward the camp, waddling along with a determination in her step. She would get him his fish.
She stopped partway through the line of tents, her head suddenly tilting back as she lifted her beak to sniff the air. Something smelled like...water..fishy water. She looked up. Tent #3? What was in here? She looked back toward her penguin husband and gave a muffled squawk, leading him into the tent. The techs ignored them, well aware that several trainees and hunters had been turned into penguins thanks to Minnie's experimental bandaids. Candace stopped at the sight of what was in the tanks.
FISH! Dozens and dozens of FISH! Granted they were minipet fish but they were still fish!

Jerry beamed. LOOK AT THEM ALL He wanted to go swim he wanted to go swim so bad. Eagerly, he waddled forward, but before he could even start looking for a way up, a Lifer spotted him.
"Oh, no you don't!"
He was grabbed, roughly under the flippers and promptly thrown out of the tent with a startled "WAARK!"

Yay! She made her penguin husband happy!
Why the ******** did she care about that? Stop that, Candace. You are not a penguin. She watched him approach the tank, hoping this was indeed just a random penguin that resembled Jerry and not actually Jerry. Minipets aren't food, man.
A nearby Life tech stopped them from thinking about getting into those tanks. Candace watched her penguin husband go flying from the tent, looking up at the tech. He moved like he was going to pick her up as well until she raised a flipper and waved it at him, turning around and waddling out of the tent on her own.
