Ash was waiting in Thackery's dorm for his return, surrounded by minipets.
Hisstofer had not been invited, of course. He was no fool.
Next to him on Thackery's bed was a fresh box of pizza, with as many assorted meats as he could add before the company he ordered from began to ask him if he was kidding.
In his gloved hands was a tin full of sweetrolls, drizzled with honey and powdered sugar.
And he waited.
In the dark.
That is one had a surprise party of one plus minipets, correct?

His stay with the Death Clan had not been particularly strenuous. Of the enemies Thackery faced between his classwork and his training, he was able to defeat most of them with relative ease, embracing the failures that came when he was just too worn out to carry on. The 'mirror images' were particularly taxing...more so mentally than physically, wearing down on his psyche in a way that he wasn't too excited about. Still, he seemed to have made it out a little better than those who ventured to other islands, if the weary students wandering the halls on the way back to their rooms were any indication.
The pep was definitely out of his step as he walked the familiar route to his own room. He might not have had the most difficult of weeks, but it was still more taxing than a week at Amityville.
The Cerberus wanted a puppynap. And Ash. Mostly the latter.
He opened the door to his room, slipping the strap of his travel bag off of his shoulder. What was that fantastic smell? He sniffed the air with a contented smile as he reached to flip on the light, sleepy eyes half-lidded as he tried to focus on the scent of something yummy.
Light flooded the room.
Thackery screamed a scream that was extraordinarily unbecoming of a future Cerberus King.
Holding shaky arms in front of him to shield him from an inevitable attack, he could just barely catch a glimpse of the terrible murder...er...oh.
"Ash!" he laughed, relieved and excited and full of happies. He bounded over, smashed his hands in some unfortunate sweet rolls for support, and gave him a kiss that made up for a whole week of missed kisses.

Time was of little concern to the reaper. He merely sat up on the familiar bed, his weight dipping it in the middle. After a time, the various minipets tired themselves out with play, resting on Ash as if he were a giant mountain and they were the goats. A stubborn boafox had decided to become his scarf, and an invisible boafox was taking up resident by his left foot. Princess Cinders had chosen to rest in the Pyramidkind's helm on the floor, spooning with a basilisk Ash had brought from his own room.
He was startled into movement as the lights came on, the minipets screeching in protest as they tumbled off of Ash and onto the floor. However, he wasn't paying much attention to them-- the reaper had a lap full of puppy, wiggling and exciting and providing him with much needed kisses.
"I have missed you," he murmured against Thackery's lips, each kiss more insistent than the last. "I believe the little things wish to express their joy at seeing you once more, as well."
A pause.
"That, or they wish to get into the sweetrolls that you are squishing." A smile, toothy and earnest.
It had been a long, long week.

"I missed you, too! But you probably know that. With all of the texts and stuff. And because you're really smart anyway." He glanced at the persistent minipets, frowning at the difficult situation they were diligently forcing upon him. "They can wait," he decided. Only after he stopped himself from looking them in the eyes. "...sweetrolls!? That was the yummy--aah, you're the best!" He moved his hands from the tin, trailing a few strings of crumbs and honey, and brought an open palm up to his mouth for a taste. The sleepy, contented expression returned as he savored it for a moment, smiling as he offered his other sugary palm to Ash. "Maybe I can skip next week without anyone noticing. We can have more food and you can stay here...or I can stay with you...and we won't only have to talk through texts. Because that makes me lonely." He added a kiss to sweeten his suggestion in the most literal sense, ensuring that Ash was going to have a taste of the confection one way or a another. The texts he'd received had all encouraged him along, pushing him towards trying something new, and he'd gone with it for a while. But he was homesick now, and something inside him really hoped that he wouldn't be able to say no this time.

A smile. The voices are at bay, today. The whispers silent, the sorrow buried.
"I appreciated every last text for what it was," Ash replied solemnly, knowing that Thackery would be able to pick up his underlying meaning.
I missed you. Are you okay?
His smile was gentle as Thackery feasted on his snacks, and let tranquillity wash over him. A blessed reprieve.
"No," Ash murmured with a shake of his head. "I am as lonely, but you need to finish up the week. For your own good." He pressed a kiss to the boil's temple, wishing he was more weak-willed.
"You do not want to be seen as a quitter, do you?"
Appeal to his pride. That was the trick. He kissed Thackery again, long and slow, to distract him from any argument he may have had.
