As far as the color choice, yes it is. The colors you used are a lot easier to look at, as well as the gradiants for the background.
As for composition, the smoke in front of the piller gives it some depth, which is good.
So, overall, yes there is improvement. Good job. 3nodding

You're adding in a lot of shading, and some highlights, so that's good. I'd say it's definitely an improvement.
