NAME: Masoal Fadyas
___Masoala National Park - One of only two protected areas thought to have 500+ adult fossas
___Fady - Malagasy taboos, or more specifically, beliefs related to actions, food, or days of the week

BLOOD COLOUR: Tealblood [ #386e70 ]

GENDER: Male

SYMBOL: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

PERSONALITY: Raised in a largely solitary environment, Masoal is a bit of a loner, preferring to remain within the bounds of the forest where he is most comfortable. The trees provide many natural necessities, however there are times he's forced to travel into Four Fronds for supplies, namely troll-made items such as bells, which he collects to pacify one of his many outrageous superstitions. He has an affinity for the round ones—as well as other round objects such as beads, marbles, and rubber balls—and enjoys collecting them. Sometimes he'll play with them too, rolling them across the floor or creating small patterns with them.

In town is where his superstitious nature becomes most apparent in his interactions with the environment and other trolls. To a random passerby, the way he walks down the sidewalk can appear unusual, humorous even, with how he's always trying to avoid cracks. But laugh at him and risk unleashing his heavy-handed defensiveness. His combativeness, in part, stems also from the way he's raised. Even at this young age, Masoal takes part in lessons of skill and speed with Fossamom, and though she would never intentionally maim or fatally injure, the tealblood learned quickly the value of fighting back, and more specifically, winning. Be it in a physical or verbal altercation, he seems to have taken that ideal to an extreme. In a way, Masoal wants to be the best, wants things to go his way.

Though he's only been training a few sweeps, he's gained a decent understanding of the basics of not only in combat, but also movement, like climbing. In order to even reach his treehive, he has to climb, a setup by Fossamom. Oftentimes, as long as he expends a decent amount of effort, she is willing to take him the rest of the way, or even all the way next time it is necessary. Because of this, Masoal very rarely leaves the branches on an average day, preferring instead to jump from tree to tree where distance allows. At his age, that isn't very far, but his lusus is always around to ensure he doesn't fall, and carry him where he can't reach.

From the trees he often watches the lowblood hunts, though he isn't interested in getting himself involved with other trolls, and certainly wouldn't be able to fight on his own at this point. The hunts can be entertaining, however. He uses them as a learning experience, a way to gain access to new ideas in hunting, tracking, and hiding. Similarly, Fossamom will also take him into town at times, even if nothing needs purchased, in order to observe other trolls. From them, she believes he can gain insight into the nature of others, their habits, movements, and interactions. This he can use to his advantage in situations when she might not always be around to protect him.

He believes that everyone should be able to survive on their own merit. If the lowbloods don't survive the hunts, it was because of their own weakness. If the highbloods lose their mark, their skill was simply subpar. Similarly, the tealblood almost never acknowledges the hemospectrum. Respect is due only to someone's ability, not their blood color. Whether challenged by lowblood or high, even rising into blue and purple, Masoal will lash out if pushed too far.

Despite all of his training, the young troll's superstitious nature can, at times, be used against him by someone inventive enough. Pranking him with something he already believes, like pretending to be a ghost, would stop him dead in his tracks. At least until (if) he figures out it's a fake. On the other hand, trying to fool him with a new, unheard of voodoo might stop him for a second, especially in fast-paced situations, but he's quick to rebuke something that sounds fishy. Later, once he's had time to look into it, he'll either scoff and chalk up the lie to another thing he was right about or end up adding another superstition to his list and spend a few nerve-wracking hours waiting for something bad to happen if he went against it earlier.

STRENGTHS:
Decisive - Masoal knows what he wants and that makes things easy in the decision-making department. It only takes a moment of thought to come to a conclusion in most cases (although some might say he acts mainly on instinct). Either way, he's not afraid to make split second choices, for good or bad, and will stand by his decisions with pride.

Limber - This guy's good in situations that require flexibility, physical flexibility, that is. Movement comes easily to him and he can stretch into positions that some trolls might find painful. Something stuck in a tight space? He could get it for you if he felt like it. His increased range of movement, thanks to Fossamom's training, helps him remain physically unpredictable. He's also quite good at climbing and coiling himself before he jumps to gain more air.

Diligent - Not the type to give up, Masoal is stubborn and will push to see things through to completion. It hurts his pride when he's unable to complete a task or reach the levels he sets for himself. Though he has a hard time playing well with others sometimes, if they're striving towards the same goal, he'll do everything in his power to help see that goal achieved. And achieved properly. He likes to see things done wholly and done right.

FLAWS:
Superstitious - To a T. Masoal is scared of ghosts, the idea of an afterlife, and most anything that can't be readily explained. Besides dislike of the unknown, the tealblood has a mental laundry list of superstitions he adheres to, for fear of igniting the wrath of some unseen entities if he doesn't. For example, he won't step on cracks, that would break Fossamom's back, he believes the ringing of bells will keep away the terrors of the day and has some hung around his hive, and he will only pick up a beetle off the street if it's face up, he doesn't want bad luck. And those are only a few things. At times, his superstitious nature can be crippling, leaving him without much action to take, simply because he feels like the only available choices are bad ones. In situations like that, he often choses to do nothing, because that's certainly the only viable option.

Combative - Masoal is rather sure and set in his ways, even at a young age, and when someone challenges that, he gets extremely defensive. He'll try to argue for his side at first, as well as he can for a child, but push him or simply continue to disagree with him too much and he's likely to start yelling. Just like he's quick to make decisions, he's also quick to jump to conclusions.

Selfish - If something will benefit him in some way, Masoal will go for it, even at the expense of other's feelings. This guy is number one in his own eyes and doesn't see that changing anytime soon (unless you're Fossamom). Don't expect him to respect any opinions but his own, unless said opinions serve him or coincide with his own. He's also not very good at sharing. His things are his things and if another troll likes it enough, they can very well go and get one for themselves!

WEAPON: Karambitkind - The karambit is a small, hand-held, curved blade, which according to folklore, was inspired by the claws of big cats.

APPEARANCE:
Hair - Messy and uneven, sporting a few little blood colored beads on the left side.

Horns - Little and claw-like, they curve forward.

Build - Lean and long-limbed, even at a young age he seems to move with ease.

Clothes - Lightweight and kept mostly close to the body to prevent snags.

HOME: Masoal and Fossamom live in a treehouse sort of hive nestled within the forest of Four Fronds. The only way in or out is through the trees, which requires either climbing or catching a ride with mom.

LUSUS: Fossamom is very vocal, matching her dominant personality. She keeps a close reign in on her charge and can call Masoal to her side with nothing more than a high pitched noise he has come to recognize. Due to her methods, the tealblood is very attached to her, and they spend quite a bit of time together. Fossamom has taken it on herself to train Masoal in the ways of swift movement and strong strikes. A practiced hunter and climber, she expects her charge to be able to keep up with her without issue, and so they train together on a nightly basis. The times she can be seen active vary, as unlike the usual Alternian inhabitant, she is sometimes awake during the day. However, she does adhere to a lot of Masoal's schedule and is more often awake at night, when he might need her.

To a random passerby, the way he walks down the sidewalk can appear unusual, humorous even, but laugh at him and risk unleashing his heavy-handed defensiveness. He wouldn't be afraid to tell another troll straight up that they were the strange one, with words or claws.

His combativeness, in part, stems also from the way he was raised. Even at a young age, Masoal took part in lessons of skill and speed with Fossamom, and though she would never intentionally maim or fatally injure, the tealblood learned quickly the value of fighting back, and more specifically, winning. Be it in a physical or verbal altercation, he seems to have taken that ideal to an extreme. In a way, Masoal wants to be the best, wants things to go his way.

The sweeps in training left him fairly strong not only in combat, but also movement, like climbing. In order to even reach his treehive, he has to climb, a setup by Fossamom to ensure his love of the trees, where she spends most of her time outside. Because of this, Masoal very rarely leaves the branches on an average day, preferring instead to jump from tree to tree where distance allows. From the trees he often watches the lowblood hunts, though he's never attempted to participate in such a thing himself, from either side of the spectrum. He isn't interested in getting himself involved with other trolls. The hunts can be entertaining, however. Sometimes he uses them as a learning experience, a way to gain access to new ideas in hunting, tracking, and hiding.

STRENGTHS:
Punctual - If life was supposed to be lived without a schedule, there wouldn't be such a thing as time. Masoal believes firmly in the idea that it's rude to be late, and although he usually doesn't take other troll's opinions into consideration, he also doesn't want to make himself look bad by showing up tardy. There's no excuse for it, it's simply wrong. Likewise, there are certain things he does every night, such as lessons with Fossamom, that he keeps regimented to the same time, every time.

Decisive - Masoal knows what he wants and that makes things easy in the decision-making department. Having a hard time choosing something? He's your troll.

In battle, his swings and dodges can sometimes be difficult to judge due to his increased range of movement and Fossamom has made perfectly sure to hone his ability to be physically unpredictable.

And those are only a few things. At times, his superstitious nature can be crippling, leaving him without much action to take, simply because he feels like the only available choices are bad ones. In situations like that, he often choses to do nothing, because that's certainly the only viable option.

Finicky - Everything that's his—including his hive, his person, and most anything else he interacts with on a nightly basis—has to, has to, has to be a certain way. When things are out of whack, even if it's the smallest of changes, he's apt to take notice and even more likely to flip his s**t about it. At times, he even projects this need for the just-so onto other trolls. If he feels like someone arranging themselves or their possessions differently will serve them (or his eyes) better, he'll say so without hesitation.

Combative - Masoal is very sure and set in his ways, even at a young age, and when someone challenges that, he gets extremely defensive. Debating his position is generally the first stance, but push him or simply continue to disagree with him too much and he'll start to argue and yell and make little to no sense half the time. Just like he's quick to make decisions, he's also quick to jump to conclusions. He's also equally quick in brandishing his knives if he feels a threat of physical violence.

Selfish - If something will benefit him in some way, Masoal will go for it, even at the expense of other's feelings. This guy is number one in his own eyes and doesn't see that changing anytime soon.

APPEARANCE: Full-Size Reference - His hair is messy and uneven, sporting a few little braids on the left side, and his head is topped off with little, claw-like horns that curve forward. His fangs are relatively short, only poking out a little from his mouth. And while all of Fossamom's fighting lessons are, for the most part, not deadly, she pushes him hard. The scars across his belly are from one of the first spars where she used her claws, and though he's been scratched since, those were the only wounds deep enough to leave noticeable scars. His clothing is largely kept close to his body to prevent it from catching on things when he climbs.

HOME: Masoal and Fossamom live in a treehouse sort of hive nestled within the forest of Four Fronds. This location was chosen by Fossamom in order to provide a good training ground for her charge. The tealblood has since become adept at climbing and hunting and moving through the trees without being noticed.

LUSUS: Fossamom is very vocal, matching her dominant personality. She keeps a close reign in on her charge and can call Masoal to her side with nothing more than a high pitched noise he has come to recognize. Due to her methods, the tealblood has become very reliant on her and also very protective, going as far as to say no other troll is ever allowed to meet her. She doesn't much mind, she's a fairly solitary creature by nature. Fossamom has also taken it on herself to train Masoal in the ways of swift movement and strong strikes. A practiced hunter and climber, she expects her charge to be able to keep up with her without issue, and so they train together on a nightly basis. The times she can be seen active vary, as unlike the usual Alternian inhabitant, she is sometimes awake during the day. However, she does adhere to a lot of Masoal's schedule keeping, just to sate him, and is more often awake at night, when he might need her.

weh, this is a hard crit. everything you've got down looks good. does masoal have any hobbies, or activities he likes to do when he's not training?

i really love the superstitious flaw, it adds a lot of personality to him and makes him stand out from other trolls! apart from that, i'd just recommend you find a way for him to be able to get out of the forest and visit other trolls. it sucks if your troll can't join in events or interact with other people because you can't think of a reason for him to leave his home! sad

Made some updates.

Kid-ified the quest, removing a strength and flaw and editing the others a little bit where necessary. Same for the rest of the sections.

Added a hobby/activity - collecting/playing with round things.

Added another reason to leave the forest - observation of other trolls for edge and experience.

cant stop
reading frossa
frossamom
oh god no
OH GOD NO

also just to be 100% clear this crit is only for kid stage, i didnt look at the small text stuff - v-

okay anyways supersititious trolls yes! awesome.
in personality you mention the way he walks? im just curious as to what you mean by that, haha. like, because he's watching for cracks and stuff?

honestly i don't have much to say crit-wise, he seems pretty solid! just some random questions for expanding if you feel like it, i guess.

would you consider him gullible? i only ask because of his superstitious nature- not to say it in itself makes him gullible, but what if someone were to tell him of some new hex or something he had never heard of? does he research this kind of stuff thoroughly, or does he just do anything preventitive he could possibly think of?

He's a pretty strong willed guy and as a tealblood no one's really gunna mess with or question him. But how would he react to some douchebaggy highbloods, be it blue or seadweller? Living by the Fronds must mean he runs into them sometimes, so i'm just curious if he'd roll his eyes and suck it up or challenge them or what? :3
PostPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 11:48 am

Thanks for the crit, Mea. And don't you think Frossa would be a good mom. I think so. >> Definitely.

But yeah the tiny text stuff is just a copy of the teen stage so no need to worry about it.

Made a few updates:

the way he walks - To a random passerby, the way he walks down the sidewalk can appear unusual, humorous even, with how he's always trying to avoid cracks. ((Sometimes he'll also look for round spots to step on, but I didn't add that in because it's not as common.))

gullibility - Despite all of his training, the young troll's superstitious nature can, at times, be used against him by someone inventive enough. Later, once he's had time to look into it, he'll either scoff and chalk up the lie to another thing he was right about or end up adding another superstition to his list and spend a few nerve-wracking hours waiting for something bad to happen if he went against it earlier.

highblood challenges - Whether challenged by lowblood or high, even rising into blue and purple, Masoal will lash out if pushed too far.
