Bio: Her
name was unknown to her. It had been erased with all the other memories that
she held. Her family, gone. All she knew
was that she was left on a island to fend for herself. The island had many
foods that were edible. But she had to leave the island soon, as the island was
filled with horrific creatures wanting to eat her. For four years she was able
to live on the island before finally being able to build a boat that could
survive the sea’s terrible currents. She found populated land after a week of
being out to sea. Once she got off her boat, the men and women so nicely
dressed in clothes that were clean, dismissed her as a street beggar and threw
food and garbage at her when they saw her. She needed a way to somewhat fit in
as her clothes were dirty and wet. As she walked she was able to grab money off
of the ground. This soon added up and gave her enough money to buy herself used
clothes. She now had a gray t-shirt and a pair of jeans with a rip in one of
the knees. She watched from her little shelter as people walked by her, buying
things then putting the money in their pockets. Not knowing what a job was, the
girl gave herself a job, pick pocketing.
Within a month’s time she got so good at pick pocketing that she had
plenty of food and some brand new clothes. She could easily fit in here, but no
one still accepted he due to the fact that she didn’t have a name and acted
like she was wary at all times. In which she was, she was unknowing to the
world away from that small island. So she decided to leave the town. She was
going to hopefully find a better place to live. So off she went. It took her
five weeks before she found a city. Life on the road wasn’t so hard for her as
she knew how to live off the land due to the years she spent on the island. After two days of traveling she came across a
road, strange machines were going she saw these machines once before in the
town that she had been at before. These machines scared her. They carried
people in them and they went really fast. It seemed that if she had ever went
anywhere near one of them she could easily be killed within seconds. This was
not an outcome that she wished for. So she moved away from the road continuing
on her journey. It soon grew dark, so
the girl found light to follow which led her to a small motel. It only cost
five dollars a night. She had a total of thirty dollars on her. So she decided
to give the five up for a safe night away from the moving machines. When she
had entered the room that the motel gave her, she was greeted by a bright light
and a bed. The bed was comfortable yet she could not figure out how to turn off
the light. So she slept with the light on. It was about twelve am when a sudden
knocking came on her door and woke her up. She went to the door and opened it.
A man was standing there “Hello?” the girl said to him looking suspicious of
him. “Good Evening young lady…” he replied. “Is there something you need from me
sir?” she asked very tensely this man wasn’t giving off a good vibe to her.
“Well yes I was wondering why in the middle of the night do you have a light
on? Shouldn’t you be sleeping young lady? Where are your parents? Or are you a
runaway who was carried by the wind here?” He said with a strange look on his
face. She had only shut the door on this man. He wanted to know too much from
her. She decided not to sleep any longer that night and leave as soon as the
sun rose. Once the sun rose she left the motel heading away from the dangerous
road with the very fast machines. She traveled through the woods. She walked
until she couldn’t walk any further. After weeks of her
walking through the woods living off small berries that she found in the woods
she came to a city. She ran straight for the sidewalks of the city and started
working at her trade; pick pocketing so she could hopefully get some food. By
the time it was five o’clock at night she had made a good fifty dollars from
being in such a huge and busy city. Not once was she caught by the police that
roamed on the streets. So she had found herself a kind diner that wasn’t too
expensive. They had tons of foreign foods that she had never heard of. She
looked at the menu that had fish, sushi, crab, clam, steak, burger, fries,
potatoes, corn and beans on it. She had only known names of fruits in which she
learned from the small town that she had been in previously. She had eaten
fruits for a diet mostly on the island also. So she had come to trust fruits as
safe. “So what can I get ‘ya?” the waitress came over to her “Umm… how about the su-s-hi?” she tried to
pronounce the name of the strange food. “Sure thing it will be right out.” The
waitress then left. The girl could not help but to notice the waitress’ features,
she had blonde hair and had really red lips with seriously pink cheeks that
looked unusual. This made her nervous and kept on high guard. After about ten
minutes the waitress came back with a plate with a strange food on it. It was a
small circle each one an individual one formed in the shape of a larger circle
on the plate. The outside of it was green with white and pink on the inside.
“Here ‘cha go.” said the waitress setting down the food in front of the girl.
The girl looked at the strange food cautiously. It had no smell to it and came
with no silver ware to eat it with. So she picked one up and put it in her
mouth. The most disgusting taste ever came to her mouth. She spat out the
sushi. I may not know what this food is but it is nasty! The girl thought so
she then after making it look like she ate the food ordered herself a bowl of
strawberries. This fruit grew on the island she was trapped on and it was her
favorite. She could never get enough of this food. She ate the whole bowl
suddenly feeling better and went to pay her bill which came out to be thirty
dollars. Once she was done with all this it was about six o’clock so she went
to find a store to buy herself some stuff. She spent fifteen dollars on clothes
a backpack and a blanket. She put her newly bought items in her backpack and
had also in the store pick pocketed another twenty dollars, just enough for her
to get a nice room in a decent hotel that she saw walking to the store. She
then went right to the hotel after she had left the store. When she walked in
the floor was a pure white and the walls almost bare with small paintings and
clocks. She went to the front desk where the man behind had been wearing a gray
desk clerk outfit and he didn’t look to happy. His hair was a strange reddish
color somewhat hidden by a small hat on his head. “Hello welcome to the Balsh
Hotel do you have a reservation?” he said to the girl. “No I don’t have a
res-er-vation sir. Could I please get a room though?” She said having problems
pronouncing the large word that she had heard and known the meaning of but
couldn’t pronounce correctly. The man looked over the girl in disgust. Her
clothes looked slightly dirty and looked as if she had bathed in a small lake.
In which the girl did traveling here. “Hang on just a moment madam.” He said
and then called someone on a strange device that she didn’t recognize. Soon men
in a suit came over to the two and looked right at the girl and said to her
“Get out of my hotel now! You filthy street scum!” and with that took the girl
by her hand a led her out of the hotel “And don’t come back!” and with that he
left her on the side of the street. It was too late for the girl to go and find
another hotel it was about nine at night and she was too tired to walk any
further. So she took the blanket that she bought and curled up next to the wall
of the hotel. She was almost asleep when she was awoken by bright lights. A car
was pulling up next to her. She watched as an older man got out of the driver
side of the car. Then out came a boy who didn’t look too old but old enough to
maybe be whatever age she was. The old man and the boy started talking they
were too far way for her to make out what they were saying when suddenly the
boy pointed her way and the old man also looked at her. She tried to make
herself press up against the wall into the shadows the best she could she
didn’t need this man to insult her further than what she was. He walked up to
her and then said “Hello are you okay?” “I am fine thank you.” She said
sounding a bit mean. The boy looked at her surprised by her response “What’s
your name?” He then said. She looked at the man with his strange spiky black
hair. He was wearing jeans and a white long sleeve shirt, he also looked as if
he was wearing make-up under his eyes but once he drew closer the girl realized
it wasn’t. He had this warm trusting look in his eyes. She decided to then
speak the man “I have no name. I have no memory. I am sorry.” She said and
looked away from the man upset by the memory of none. “Why should one who can’t
remember anything be sorry I’m 100% sure that it wasn’t your fault. Now I must
ask one more thing why are you out here in the cold?” he replied not moving at
all. She had expected him to of had walked away in disgust already. “Because I
had been kicked out of the hotel because I am street scum the man in the suit
said to me…” She said looking back at the man. The man said nothing else and
grabbed the blanket that she had on her and grabbed her backpack that was next
to her. “Hey!” She said thinking that he was going to steal the little that she
owned. The man ignored her yelling and then also grabbed her by her hand a
dragged he behind him back into the hotel. Then he looked at the older man and
said something in a foreign language. Then the older man had then got back in
the car and drove off. “Where are you taking me? Let me go!!” She said getting very
nervous by him. “You are NOT sleeping out there. It’s not your fault that you
are forced to live in the streets and when you have money to live in a hotel
for a night you should be allowed to.” He said and went right into the hotel
where the man at the desk had noticed the girl being brought back into the
hotel with the hotel’s top paying resident he was speechless. The
man then brought the girl into the elevator and brought her to his whole floor
room. He brought her to the third bedroom in his hotel area and then looked at
her and said “This is your room you have a bathroom right in it. I want you to
live here with me and my co worker. I noted you reading my facial expressions
earlier when we were talking. You have some great observation skills.” All she
could do was nod. He then pointed out the bathroom “Go on ahead shower. Then we
can talk more over tea and cake. Okay?” And with that he left the girl to her
room. He went to the front door to wait for the older man to come back. The
girl had walked around the room. Then boy had shut the door behind him. The
room was a nice dark blue and the bed had a really cool black comforter with
green and purple stripes on it. There was a dresser with a strange flat screen
thing on the top. She then went into the bathroom which was a pale blue with a
shower, toilet and sink. She looked at the shower...I know how to bathe but how
do you operate a shower? She thought. She soon figured out the shower and got
clean. She had never felt so clean and warm before. She took her backpack and
got out her new clothes which consisted of a plain black shirt and a pair of
blue jeans. She dried her hair the best that she could and walked back out into
the main room of the hotel. It had a pink and white couch and a chair with the
same colors. There was a coffee table in the center of this arrangement and
over towards the window there was a strange set up….The white haired man walked
into the room and set down a tray with two cups of tea and two small plates
with a cake with a strawberry on the top. “Hello madam. You may call me
Wilkes.” He said to her and walked away. She looked around for the man with the
spiky hair. She really wanted to see this guy again. The whole room seemed to
be spinning. Why did he bring me here? Who is he? Why was he kind to me? What’s
going on? These all questions racing through her head. Finally he joined her in
the room. He sat on the chair so she sat on the couch. “So you have no idea
what so ever what your name is?” He asked her as he gave her a tea cup and a
plate of cake. “No sir…I have no clue.” She said putting her cake back down on
the table and taking the tea cup and drank the wonderful drink. It tasted so
sweet and warm. “Well then with your
permission can I name you?” he asked tilting his head slightly at her. “Why no
I would enjoy having a name to call myself by.” She said now setting down the
tea and eating the cake leaving the strawberry on top for last. “Hmmm…what to
name you?” He said. She noted just then that he didn’t sit normal. His feet were
placed on the chair with his knees up close to his chest. “Aha! Zalea! What a
beautiful name don’t you think?” he looked at her eagerly. “I like it thank
you! But what should I call you?” Zalea said to the man. “I want to tell you
this now I will call you Z for short okay? But you can’t tell anyone to call
you Z. Only Wilkes and I can call you by that.” He said his dark eyes shining
brightly at Zalea. “But you never told me your name or why you brought me
here!” Zalea said trying to get the answers she wanted out of him.“My name? You
may call me Law but when I call you Z you may call me L. I am a detective and I
saw potential in you. I mean, if you would like to.” Law said looking right at
Zalea. “Well um….you are going to have to explain a lot to me as I forgot most
things. But yes I would love to help a detective.” Zalea said. “You just tell
me what you need to learn how to do and I will teach. I hope you are a very
fast learner.” He said. “Okay well how do you turn lights off? And what is that
strange machine in the corner?” She said to him. He laughs and says “So you
need technology help then?” “I don’t know what tec-no-ligy is…” She said. He
then got up and led her to the light switch and showed her how to turn on an
off the lights. The man named Wilkes walked in to make sure everything was
alright and smiled when he saw Law laughing with Zalea teaching her how to use
different things around the hotel. Zalea had so much to learn but with Law
helping her it should be easy for her Wilkes thought then walked back into the
kitchen where he was baking. By the end of the night Zalea knew how to work
everything in the hotel room. “Well you should go to sleep Zalea.” Law said
“Yeah I am tired…” She said and went to her room and shut the door behind her.
Just before she went to turn off the light in her room, she noticed a small box
on her pillow on the bed that wasn’t there before. So she went over and opened
it. Inside was a small red heart necklace on a gold chain. She smiled and put
it on her dresser. Then she turned off her light and went to sleep. The
next day she found Law sitting in a desk chair he was talking into a microphone
into a computer and seemed to be listening into a headset. Zalea decided to
stay quiet until Law was done with his work. She looked around the room as she
went to sit on the couch the room was kept dark for some reason. Soon Law
finished with his work and started to type directly afterwards, and didn’t
notice Zalea’s presence. Zalea had after about ten minutes of Law typing opened
the curtains and let the glorious sunlight flow into the room. “Good Morning
Zalea.” Law said without turning around. “Thank you and good morning Law.” She
said looking a little bit disappointed that he didn’t turn to face her. “Well I
thought you should own something nice.” He said this time finishing his work
and facing Zalea. “Is there anything I may do for you Law?” Zalea said “Hmm…not
at this moment Zalea. Today I have it arranged that we go shopping for you.
Since you only have two outfits.” “Are you sure? I mean you don’t need to do
that for me I mean I should get money on my own and get clothes that way.” “No.
In a way you are street filth. You gained money by pick pocketing people. But
you have a talent, so you deserve some new objects plus I can’t now completely
blame you for stealing. You in a way didn’t know better than to steal. So for
once you will be buying stuff with money given to you. This money is from me.
Don’t worry about it.” He said looking at Zalea with a small smile on his face.
“Will you be joining me?” she then suddenly asked and turned to look outside
again. “If you want me to I can. I just finished my latest case. Well two of
them, one of the pick pocket ghost. This in the end gave me a true friend.” At
noon Wilkes drove Law and Zalea to a mall. Zalea and Law went and joined the
busy crowd leaving Wilkes to have an afternoon to himself. Zalea noticed that
Law was watching her every move in the crowd making sure that she didn’t pick
pocket anyone. Zalea though didn’t want Law to think of her as a criminal so
she decided to try to forget the habit. She decided to bring Law into a store
called ‘Once’ which had some pretty awesome stuff. Zalea bought ten outfits
from there. Law just sat in a chair sitting the same strange way as usual until
Zalea was done picking out clothes. “Would you mind if we stopped at my
favorite sweet shop before we leave the mall?” Law asked Zalea “No why would I
mind you have been so kind to me buying me all these clothes!” Zalea said
following Law to the shop. Once they reached the shop Law bought three bags of
candy. Zalea followed Law out of the shop and watched him as they passed a
jewelry store and stop to look at the rings and necklaces. Zalea just stood
there waiting for Law to continue but instead he just stood there. It seemed as
if he was waiting for something. So Zalea decided to walk over to Law and stand
next to him. Once she did this Law looked right at her. “Yes Law?” She said
“Mmm…nothing Zalea shall we move on
then?” he said and started to walk again until they got out of the mall and sat
on a bench waiting for Wilkes to come back and pick them up. Law seemed to be
lost in deep thought so Zalea started to day dream. Zalea was shocked when Law
grabbed her by the hand yet again and made her follow him to the car. “Oh sorry
Law…I started to day dream..” she said “Its fine for the time being but you
should n** that habit, for once I send you out to help me on cases it will
distract you from the task at hand.” He
said. “Oh right!” Zalea decided to stay quiet until they got back to the hotel,
in which upon their return to the hotel the moment Law and Zalea got out of the
car, Wilkes drove off yet again after privately speaking to Law. Once in the
living room portion of the hotel floor Law shared with Zalea, Law grabbed Zalea
by her arm “You will be leaving me for a while for a case soon okay?” he said
to her refusing eye contact with Zalea. “Oh? Okay. Please tell me about the
case and when will I be leaving?” “You shall be leaving in two days time. I
need you to figure out who is behind large company burglaries. You will be
acting as the treasurer of the company ‘Times Electronics’ which is what I
believe to be the next target. Or you shall join the group and tell me their
identities and I shall have you also arrested with the group and make it seem
like no one had ratted them out so that you don’t get killed or injured.” He
said still avoiding eye contact with Zalea. Zalea turned away from Law and
started to walk to her room “I will do what you think will be easier for me. I
shall be ready to leave by tomorrow.” And shut her door behind her. Wilkes soon
came in the hotel and saw Law on the couch just sitting there not doing
anything. “Is something wrong Law?” Wilkes asked. “We are putting her life in
danger Wilkes. Already. I’m not sure if she will be ready for this kind of job.
I don’t want to have her blood on my hands if something goes wrong.” Law
replied “She’s clever enough to know how to not get her own blood on your
hands. I think she will be smart enough to remove herself of a too dangerous
situation. You worry for no reason. Why don’t you go ahead and take her out to
dinner before she leaves?” “Thank you Wilkes. I think a dinner with her might
be nice.” Law said and went to knock on Zalea’s door. Zalea opened the door
“Yes?” “Uh…would you care to join me for
a dinner out tonight?” Law said he was rubbing his leg with his foot looking
uncomfortable. “Sure why not?” Zalea said stepping out of her room. “If you
don’t mind Law I would like to join Wilkes in baking? I don’t know how to bake
nor cook so it would be a very educational experience.” She said looking
towards where the kitchen was. “Why not?” Law said as he watched Zalea run off
into the kitchen joyfully. “Heh…she will be a joy to have around. But her
intelligence is what makes her useful.” Law mumbled turning to Zalea’s open
room and walking in setting down yet another small box. I hope she will like
this also….He thought as he walked back
out and sat down to make the arrangements for Zalea to be flown to her first
case. Soon Zalea walked in with a tray in hand and came over to Law. “Umm…I tried to
make you a cake….” She said holding the tray out to Law. Law turned to look at
Zalea and had his gaze taken away to the cake. “Why thank you Zalea! It looks
wonderful!” he said as he grabbed it and looked over the slightly burned cake,
but to make up for it she had put five ripe strawberries around the cake. Zalea
smiled and walked back to the kitchen where she was going to eat her slice of
cake. The man Wilkes was lurking in the corner of the room smiling at the sight
of Zalea and Law communicating. Law really did need a friend and Zalea turned
out to be the one who could be a friend and also at the same time be an amazing
worker under Law. He smiled at this thought and went to join Zalea in the
kitchen. “It’s a little bit burned…”Zalea said to Wilkes upon his arrival.
“Don’t worry you will get the hang of it soon! Why don’t you go ahead and get
ready to out with Law?” He said “Are you sure you don’t want me to help you
with something?” “Yes now go get ready.” “Okay!” Then she went to go to her
room to prepare herself to go out yet again with Law. Once she closed her door
yet again she noticed yet another box on her pillow. She went over to grab it,
once she opened it she saw yet another necklace, this time it was an old
English text style L. It was unique and cool looking. So she put it on and took off the heart necklace.
She put on her nicest jeans and her nicest tee shirt. She then walked out to
Law “Hey. Thanks for the necklace what does the L stand for?” She said. “It’s
my detective alias. Just look at it if you need inspiration on a case.” He said
he was so monotone “Are you ready for us to head out? I figured that we could
walk today.” “Okay I’m ready whenever you are!” she said smiling at Law as he
held open the door for Zalea. Once outside Law led Zalea to a decent restaurant
that looked quite pretty. “Would you like to eat here?” Law said looking at
Zalea. “Sure!” She said and with that he swiftly grabbed the door and led Zalea
into a beautiful restaurant. They looked really out of place here. There was a
fountain in the center of the whole restaurant with its marble floors and white
walls. Occasionally Zalea could hear the clinking of silverware and the faint noises
of people chatting softly. Before she knew it her and Law were being led to a
table near a window. Law sat his usual way even in such a fancy place. “I see
you are observing everything.” Law said to Zalea “Yeah…there’s so much going on
around us!” She giggled and then let her gaze fix on Law. Before Law could
respond a waiter came up to take their orders. Law spoke rapidly ordering for
the both of them. “I got you a steak with onions. I thought you might like to
try it. I personally like steak myself so I ordered the same thing. Though
usually as you might of picked up on already is that I prefer to eat sweets.” He
said to Zalea once the waiter left. “Thank you. And yes I did notice that habit
along with your habit of not sleeping that often.” She said taking a sip of the
water that was placed in front of her by the waiter. “You really are a lot smarter
that what I thought for Zalea.” Law said giving Zalea yet another small smile.
Geez Zalea thought, his smile kind of creeps me out yet it’s almost cute and
rare on him…so she returned the smile and then let her gaze fall on the outside
world. People rushing throughout the city the cars that she was once afraid of
zooming by also in a rush. “Zalea….Zalea!” “Huh?” she looked at Law who must
have been talking to her as she had let her mind drift away watching the
business of the outside world. “Is everything alright?” he said suddenly
looking sad “Yeah I’m fine sorry I just had let my mind escape me that’s all.” “Well
as I was saying before you have never really told me too much about you. Where
did you come from?” He said suddenly looking serious yet again. “The last thing
I remember is waking up on a island. After what seemed like forever I escaped
the dangerous island and landed in a small town. The towns people threw garbage
at me and shunned me. So after a while of being there I decided to find a new
area leading me to this city and then now with you.” She said trying to read
what Law was thinking. “Sounds like you have been through quite a bit. Perhaps
that’s why I decided to help you. I can see your innocence in your eyes. You
truly are not street scum but someone who had no guidance and was alone since
you can remember.” His facial expression hadn’t changed a bit until their food
arrived a moment later. Zalea looked at the huge thing on a plate in front of
her called steak. “Are you sure I can eat this?” She finally said to Law after
staring at her steak for a few minutes. Law watched as Zalea’s face have a
slight look of distrust in it and laughed “Yes you can eat it its fine!” So he then
took a knife and a fork and cut himself a slice of the steak and ate it. “See?”
He said after swallowing his piece. Zalea mimicked his actions and also ate a
slice of steak. A sudden smile came across her face and she started to eat the
steak like mad. Law ate his also but had to giggle at the sight of Zalea with
the steak she loved it. Once the steak was gone Law paid the bill and led Zalea
out of the restaurant and instead of walking back the way they came he grabbed
Zalea’s wrist and dragged her along the dark city streets that were light by
only street lamps. “Where are we going now Law?” Zalea said “It’s a surprise!”
Law said cheerfully as he led Zalea to their mysterious destination. Zalea
looked all around her there were few people walking the streets now and she
could see shops still open with their bright lights on. Finally they reached a small shop and Law held the
door open for Zalea once again and they were both greeted by the best smell
ever, baked goods. Law brought Zalea to his favorite bakery where they could
sit down have a slice of cake, tea and just enjoy each other’s company. This
was a first for the both of them, an actual friend that they could just have a
great time with. “So you shall be leaving me in the morning huh?” Law said to
Zalea as they waited in line to order a pastry. “Yeah…already thinking about it
almost makes me sad…” she said looking at all the people in the shop. It was
mostly filled with young couples sharing cake, until they reached the counter
Law kept quiet. “What cake is your favorite Zalea?” He said suddenly “Uh…that
one!” She said pointing to the cake with a small strawberry on the top. By
looking at it she could tell it had whipped frosting on it, what Wilkes put on
the cakes he makes. Zalea soon saw the door of the bakery open and a strange
group of people walked in. They looked up to no good so Zalea moved a little
closer to Law as he got the cake and tea for them. “Are you okay Zalea? You
moved kind of close to me…” he said grabbing their order “Yeah I’m fine sorry I
tripped on my own feet…” she said following Law to their table still watching
the shady people closely. Once Zalea sat down she had to break her gaze on the
strange men and turn to look at Law. He had bought only one cake, for them to
share and gave her a tea cup and put tons of sugar in his own. Zalea looked at
Law with a slight look of happiness but it could barley shine through as the
strange people made her very nervous and want to leave the shop as soon as
possible. “Zalea…” Law said making Zalea feel a bit comforted by his voice “You
don’t look so good. You have a bit of fear in your eyes what’s wrong?” “Nothing
Law I am fine.” Zalea said taking a small bite of the cake. “No you are not.
Don’t lie to me Zalea is it those men?” he said gesturing towards the strange
people in the shop. Zalea didn’t respond but only watched as the group of three
came towards her and Law. “Aww what a disgusting couple!” One said to Zalea “You
would be better without that guy!” Zalea just took a sip of her tea tensing up
greatly as they reached their table. Law just stared in surprise by the men. “Come
on why aren’t you talking little one?” the second one said to Zalea but Zalea
just tried to ignore them, until the third one said “Come on guys lets grab her
up and take her to go!” Then Zalea just seemed to be going to get a piece of
cake with her dessert fork when she took it and stabbed the leader in the hand
with it. “You leave Law and I alone you got it?!” She said to the leader
without looking at him. Law watched Zalea’s actions with a slight smile. He
predicted that she would do this sooner or later. “Aww come on sweet heart don’t
ya want away from that guy?” The leader said trying to ignore the pain in his
right hand. “If you dare insult Law one more time…”She mumbled her knuckles
turning white because of her gripping the fork so tightly as she pushed it
further into the man’s hand soon drawing blood. “Okay okay girlie we will let
you and the creeper her alone if you take the fork out of my hand okay?” The
leader said about in tears. She sighed as she forcefully pulled out the fork
from the man’s hand. The leader turned around and motioned for the group to
follow but Law noticed the leader whispered something to the third man. As the
other two left the third man hung back watching Zalea. Law tried to get Zalea
to notice this but it was too late Zalea was silent just looking at the floor
when the third man had suddenly came up behind her and tried to strangle her. “ZALEA!”
Law shouted and got up trying to get the man away from her. Zalea had looked up
the moment the man’s hands grasped her throat her eyes seemed to plead to Law
for help. She was slowly fading away because of the
strong grip of the man. Law finally grabbed Zalea’s dessert fork and pierced
the man’s ear with it. The man yelped and ran off to join the rest of his gang.
“Zalea..” Law said seeing the unconscious Zalea, she was still breathing but
was knocked out good. So he grabbed Zalea up and carried her back to the hotel
and put her in her bed. Once Zalea woke up, she saw L sleeping in a chair next
to her. She smiled he was still sitting in that strange way. What happened last
night? She wondered. Suddenly a sore feeling came from her neck, she gently put
her hand on her neck. It hurt really badly. She couldn’t move her neck either.
Wilkes soon peeked into the room to see how Law and Zalea were once he saw
Zalea awake he came in a whispered to her “How are you?” “I’m fine. What
happened?” “Law said some guy tried to kill you because you refused to go with
his gang.” “Wilkes why can’t I move my head?” She suddenly said nervously.
“Your neck is injured it will be a while before you are able to move your neck
again.” He said looking at Law “He fell asleep here after he solved the case
that you were supposed to finish today.” “WHAT? NO! That was supposed to be my
case! I want to help!” She said upset “You two have been so kind to me and I
haven’t helped at all to help pay back for the kindness!” “Calm down so you
don’t wake Law up and injure yourself further.” Wilkes said as he sat on the
end of Zalea’s bed “You have paid us back in a way that means more than a
solved case, you gave Law a friend and allowed me to see Law happy. That’s how
you paid us back.” Zalea just stared at Wilkes in astonishment. Suddenly Law
started to wake up so Wilkes quickly left the room. “Good morning Zalea!”Law
said now awake. “I’m sorry Law. I’ve put you through a lot of trouble…and now
I’m hurt…” Zalea said almost crying “Don’t cry! None of that was expected there
was nothing that you or I could have done other than what was done. So forget
about it all.” He said getting up drawing nearer to Zalea. Zalea just watched
as Law came up to her looking at the red marks on her neck. “Give it a week and
it should feel better and you can move it then.” He said and walked out of the
room leaving Zalea all alone. “Law…” She said in a small voice as he left the room.
Soon after a few minutes he came back in the room carrying a tray with waffles
and strawberries on it. “I asked Wilkes to make you breakfast. Enjoy! When you
are done eating I will help you get out of bed if you need help.” He said and
sat back down on the chair beside her bed in his strange way of sitting. “Okay
thank you!” She said taking a bite of the waffle “This is delicious!” She said eating
the waffle in large bites until it was gone and Law got up and took the tray
and put it on the chair he was sitting on. “Ready?” He said to Zalea holding
his hand out to her “Yep…” She said taking hold of his hand. He slowly helped
her up. Once she was standing she tried to walk but ended up almost falling and
Law caught her. “You’re so nervous that you can hardly walk.” He said putting
her arm around his neck so she could walk. After about a half hour of Zalea
trying to walk she was finally able to walk on her own once again. “Phew!” Law
said sitting on her bed. “Thank you Law!” she said with a smile grabbing
clothes to go and shower. Law got up and walked out of Zalea’s room to give her
privacy when he walked out Wilkes was standing right there he had been watching
the whole time. “You sly dog.” Law said to Wilkes as he went to his favorite
chair. Wilkes just smiled at Law. “Its…it’s not like that!” Law said turning to
face his computer. “Yes sir. Shall I go and get you some ice-cream sir?” Wilkes
said trying to hide his smile. No matter what Law said Wilkes knew the truth. “No
just go and do something for yourself or something…” Law said dismissing Wilkes.
“Yes sir.” Wilkes said turning to go to his room. Twenty minutes later Zalea
came out of her room wearing the L necklace Law got for her. “Law…?” She said “Yes
Zalea?” “Why does Wilkes keep watching us? It creeps me out a little…” She said
looking towards Wilkes room where she could see his eyes watching through the
small opening of his door. “Because he thinks that we are more than friends for
some crazy reason.” Law said without taking his eyes off of the computer
screen. “And we are…just friends…right?” Zalea asked “Yes nothing more nothing
less.” “I understand…” Zalea said in a small voice and turned to go back in her
room leaving Law biting his tongue. Law sat there just staring at Zalea’s door hoping she
would come back out and keep him company but she never did. So Law got up off
his chair and sat on the couch. Wilkes came in and looked at Law, he could tell
that something had made Law upset. “Law you know that in a way you are my son
so you can always talk to me you know…” Wilkes just sighed when Law refused to
answer and just stared at the floor. “You told her that you guys were only
friends and she didn’t like it huh. I think you are also regretting saying this
aren’t you?” Law just sat there silent Wilkes watched as a single tear rolled
down Law’s cheek and hit the floor. Law hadn’t cried since he was little when
his parents were killed. Leaving Law alone Wilkes went and knocked on Zalea’s
door. Zalea thinking it was Law ran to the door and opened it with a slight
look of disappointment when she saw it was Wilkes. “Zalea come and bake with
me.” Wilkes said. Zalea nodded and followed behind Wilkes. She noted that Law
was just sitting there just staring at the floor. Once Zalea and Wilkes reached
the kitchen Wilkes looked right at her and said “Law is very upset what
happened?” “You heard so why must you ask?” She said as she gathered the
ingredients to bake a chocolate cake. “Because you guys can’t fight like this.”
“Well I don’t consider it fighting just as gathering thoughts.” “Well go talk
to him!” Wilkes said taking the stuff Zalea had in her arms away. “I can’t see
you or Law like this!” “We have nothing to talk about Wilkes.” She said sitting
on a chair in the kitchen. “JUST GO!” he said pushing Zalea off the chair and
out of the kitchen. Zalea walked back out into the main room where Law was
still sitting. So she went and sat on the arm chair across from where he was
sitting. Before she sat down she studied the way he sat and sat the way he did
on the chair and instead of looking at the floor she stared at him. This went
on for about ten minutes until the unbroken stare of Zalea burned Law so badly
that he had to say something “What Zalea?” He said looking up “I guess I’m
sorry for getting mad at your snide comment.” She said shrugging at him. “No
I’m sorry. We are friends but I shouldn’t of put the fact so rudely to you.” He
said looking down again. I have no clue what I feel about her….he thought
sadly. Zalea just looked down at the ground also when suddenly Law’s computer
beeped. Law ran over to it and sat in his chair reading something then turning to
face Zalea “This time you will be helping me now…” “What’s the case?” Zalea
said with a smile. “A petty crime that I feel that you can help with. The
police can’t figure it out. But I’m sure you can. ” He said beckoning Z to come
over to the laptop. She read the case file. A man was selling drugs. He was the
largest drug dealer around. But the people who bought the drugs were only
caught not the source. “If you ask me the man is rich hiding on an island south
of where most of his dealings take place.” She said. “You are correct. I solved
this case before you finished reading the file and evidence. It’s painfully
obvious.” He said writing an e-mail to the police on his findings. After about
an hour of waiting the laptop beeped again with and e-mail from the police
saying they caught the man. Zalea had solved her first case and wanted another
one to solve. She and Law might only be around 16 years of age but already were
they far smarter than others their age. A jump into time (9 years after Law and Zalea meet)
Zalea was in her hotel making herself a bowl of strawberries when suddenly her blue laptop started beeping. She quickly grabbed her finished bowl and sat down on the chair in front of her laptop and clicked ‘enter’ on it. Suddenly a large old English text style L appeared on the screen. Through it came a computer altered voice “Z?” “Yes L?” Said Zalea eating her strawberries “How far have you come on this case?” said the voice. “All I need is one more bit of evidence and I should be returning to London with you in two days.” She said back to the computer “Okay well until then stay safe.” And with that the computer went back to the background and stayed silent. Zalea sighed. It had been nine years since her and L meet. She had been moving from hotel to hotel with Wilkes and L for a year after her first case with L until she could go off as an investigator for L. So for eight years she had only talked to L briefly through computers and rarely in person. The only time he would come to visit her was on the day she first meet L. That was months ago now. So she had been really happy to find out she would be visiting the orphanage that Wilkes set up after she solved this last case. Currently the millionaires in Hollywood have been repeatedly robbed. There was no evidence left behind. No finger prints no openings even the security systems that Z had set up in a few house had no trace of any robbery at all until the next day when a priceless vase or painting was stolen out of the houses. Making this the hardest case that she had ever tried to solve. But each house had one thing in common, each were private houses and weren’t these rich people’s primary homes. Also because they were all in the same area, they had the same security go around each morning to check the houses to make sure nothing was missing. They had recently hired a new guard who took over for his grandfather who retired earlier in the year. Everyone pointed their fingers at the new guy. His name was Zack and had blonde hair with gray eyes. He knew about each robbery and wanted to find the person as much as Z did. But from all the evidence that Z had gained all lead to him but she knew that most of it was set up. His grandfather had given Zack his uniform cap, which was not used by the staff any longer. This hat of course was found in the second robbed house. But Z had noted that Zack didn’t wear his hat during work. He told her that he lost it after his grandfather gave it to him. Tonight Z decided due to her lack of evidence that she was going to camp out in the house that she thought to be robbed next. Later that night Z had hidden carefully in the closet next to the priceless artwork next to her. At about two o’clock am the robber had finally arrived. Z was just barley awake when she heard the noise of a door being carefully opened and left that way, quiet footsteps approached the painting and before the person could grab the painting she opened the closet door with such force that it knocked the criminal out. She quickly turned on a light next to her. Then man was older. He looked like Zack’s grandfather. She then called the police group that she was working with and helped them confirm this was their man. Sure enough he was and he was also Zack’s grandfather. After the conviction of Zack’s grandfather Z returned to her hotel and fell asleep right on the couch, but was soon awoken by the loud beeping from her laptop. She answered the laptop call “Ello?” she said in a groggily voice. “Z? It’s L again. I heard the good news you finished the case good job.” Said the computer altered voice “Be at the airport by eight at night to be brought here to London with me.” And the computer went dark. “URGGHH!” Z looked at the time she would have just enough time to pack and leave. Can’t sleep until later…. She thought gathering up her thing within a half hour. She then got on a taxi and headed for the airport. L’s private plane was there waiting with Wilkes inside. She sat down next to Wilkes. “Hello Wilkes” She said “Long times no see huh?” “How are you Zalea?” He said and with that he started the plane and off they went to London to meet with L. Z couldn’t wait at all. Once the plane arrived in London, Wilkes brought her to the limo where L was waiting. “Hello Law.” Zalea said smiling at Law trying to resist the urge to hug Law. “Good day Zalea.” Law said also resisting an urge to hug Zalea. It had been so long since they were together where it wasn’t for just a little while. Zalea was going to be with L for a year so she could rest unless a major case came up. “So we are heading to the place where you grew up huh?” Zalea said “Yep.” said Law. For the rest of the car ride the two stayed silent, giving Zalea some time to think about the past nine years. Law had seemed to shell up a lot during the years. After two years of first meeting him, a huge case came along during one of her cases that Law had to solve on his own, the Los Angeles BB Murder Case. Law told her nothing about this case nor did she want to know much about it due to the fact it changed something inside Law. He rarely spoke to Zalea when they were together and seemed to be very suspicious of her. Those two necklaces that he got her, were a symbol of the old Law. She never received any gifts from Law after this case.
