...they find themselves in a white tent, confronted with a Life Hunter who promptly shrieks like a little girl and runs out, yelling, "CLARIIIIIIIIICE!" Exiting the tent, the trainees witness the blonde assistant snapping out orders, clipboard in hand.

"Set up another triage unit, get their names and accounts during treatment. Dwight, get the rest of them accounted for. Lab units just stay out of the medics' way, these aren't test subjects. We need blankets and warm drinks for those without immediate injury." Turning to the trainees, her eyes merely scanning who was there, not yet willing to try and see if there are any...absences, Clarice continued, "Those with serious injuries, raise your hands or call for immediate treatment. Moderate injuries, get straight to the red tent. That's the infirmary. Everyone still in decent enough shape, assist those who have mobility issues, otherwise stay out of the way, we'll see to you soon."

Within minutes the area fills up and clears out as med units arrive and the injured are taken away. Those still left may notice a few things. Like the penguins, standing in a neat little rows at the tents glowing perimeter, looking on with interest. Also the snow packed ground and chilly air. Eventually they're given warm blankets, and travel mugs full of warm cocoa, coffee, or tea. The Life hunters passing them out greet the trainees with a slightly strained, "Welcome to Antarctica!"

The OOC

Those with moderate to serious injuries, and anyone assisting them, are taken to the infirmary.
Everyone else eventually asked to go see Dwight.
All the new arrivals are at some point made to place a runic thermometer in their mouth, to make sure they're still human.
When they are done, the rest area is here.

If your hunter has questions or comments for her, beyond where these areas are or what to do, post quote for Clarice or whoever has taken her place. Keep in mind that at this point they know less about what happened in the Sahara than you do!

You will have a period of at least 24 OOC hours (and one IC day as well) to just relax and rp, after that your hunters will get put to work.

[ clerise is entering ]

Clerise ran through the portal, still shuddering from the sensation of bugs crawling all over her, their mandibles nipping at her skin. The chill is a shock to her system, teeth chattering as the cooler temperature started to settle into her bones.

She waited until Clarice was done lecturing, barely waiting long enough to attack her with a hug, fierce and too tight, burying her face into the other woman's shoulder.

"I have never been so glad to see you in my ******** life," she muttered, releasing her after a moment, lips turned downwards in a grim frown. Her still healing scars were irritated from the sand, red against her slightly sunburnt skin. She would freckle in a few day's time, but for now, she was rosy pink and sore.

God.

Julie.

Biting her lip, Clerise graciously accepts a blanket and a cup of coffee, the world feeling...

Surreal.

He ran. He got to his feet and ran as hard and fast as he could, numb to everything, caught in a swirling buzzing nightmare. He detached from his own thoughts, almost watching himself run to the portal, desperately waiting as the Sun leader did what he could to get them through it.

As soon as it was possible to go through he did, stumbling into the room, everything reeling and spinning around him. It was like waking up from a nightmare he couldn't deny, the gritty taste of sand still in his throat, the ache of injuries all over testament to its reality.

He'd taken a lot of damage. Three patrols, the centipedes and their acid, the fight in the desert and Julie. Bandages only held together so much. Safe, for the moment the adrenaline drained away and he slumped to the floor. He'd get up. Just..needed a moment.

Just a moment.

[ENTERING]

The bugs they were everywhere he wanted to get out of here, he wanted to... too..... there was Allan. Thank god for Allan. He paused when he saw the hunter's weapon, did it just flicker? As he was drawing the portal to get them out. Oh this wasn't good.

However, Aleister didn't need to be told twice, get out of there. He ran after the others. Stopping in the dead cold. There was a quick flood of goosebumps and he started shivering. Thank god for the warm blanket and cocoa. He looked around noticing Rep was on the ground.

He frowned before moving over to the other hunter. Offering a hand after having shoved his cocoa into a pocket, "Do you think you can stand with help? When you're ready that is..." He asked, trying to keep his teeth from chattering, the blanket hadn't warmed him all the way. "I-I can try and help you to the infirmary if you want."

Aleister knew Rep was in pretty bad condition, he wasn't much better himself limping a bit but he was still able to move.

It was pure madness. Deryk fled for his life as Allan had come by, telling them all to run. He didn't turn back. No, he didn't want to look over his shoulder to see what Julie had become. What happened next was a bit of a blur to him. All he knew was that suddenly it was a lot colder in temperature. When his senses stopped being all jumbled up, he heard someone mention they were in Antarctica. From one desert to another in a way.

"Wait.."

Questions were running through his head, but he was having trouble putting everything together. Clarice was here. This must be where the life hunters were stationed. Or something like that. He was given a thermometer and when that was cleared, he shook and simply dropped down to his knees.

"What's going on here..?" he asked to no one in particular. Everything had happened so quickly.

Where was Allan? And Simon? Had they managed to get through as well? For that matter..

Slowly, he began to look around, trying to see who had made it.

She wasn't exactly sure what had just happened, but she did know that Allan had just saved all of their asses. Again.

They'd been saved by the 'grown up' hunters again. Cass might have been frustrated by this if she hadn't just found a place to collapse and catch her breath. She still held Nicodemus, not daring to unsummon the weapon, even behind what seemed to be safe walls, panting and looking to be trying to find herself inside of her head as she got a blanket and wrapped herself in it. Shaking.

Not from the cold, but from something else.

Some panic she was trying to swallow down. That image. That up close and personal image of Julie. It had looked so much like her, and yet....

No.

She needed to forget it. She needed to get up. She needed her legs to move, forcing them up as she finally..and slowly..relinquished Nicodemus to rest, pulling her scarf down from over her nose and pulling the goggles off, stuffing them back into her bag.

"I... does anybody need a hand? I'll help." she said. She needed the distraction. She needed it desperately.

A voice nearby. Any other circumstances the man would have gotten a sore face for so much as implying that he needed help. But here and now, it was pretty obvious that he could do with it. Not even being able to stand was a pretty clear sign he wasn't doing so great on his own.

He seized the offered hand, hauling himself to his feet with the other man's help, still unsteady and woozy but at least upright.

Someone handed him a blanket. He slung it around himself gratefully, still leaning on Aleister.

"Yeah. Infirmary." was about all he managed to grunt. He had to get his strength back up again, this wasn't over. It was too much to hope it was over.

Aleister was a little unsteady but he could keep Rep from falling which was a good thing. They both didn't need to end up injured worse because of his lack of strenght. Nodding when the other agreed to go to the infirmary. "Okay lets g-go get you patched up."

There was a pause, "I'm Aleister by the way." He added because he wasn't sure if Rep knew his name. It might've been a weird time for introductions but better to know who you're fighting by.

He saw Cass as well. "You okay, Cass?" He asked as they passed her, he'd noticed she'd perhaps been the closest to Julie. He wasn't going to dawdle long but just a second to make sure the Mist was okay. They were moving slow anyways to keep either of them from slipping in the snow and falling. So he didn't see the harm in asking her that question.

Allan came in and saved them all from being bug food, but they hadn't killed Julie. They hadn't been to get the weapon drop. And nobody had pocketed any weapon tablets.

And Julie...

He looked, once, at the table where the tablets had been stacked, and then everything was sucked into a vortex. Julie. Don't think about the hole in her back. Don't think about what was living, eating, inside while she was still... rolling for loot. We can still get her shield, at least. Bring it back...

Bugs were everywhere. Harrison tried to run through the portal with everyone else. He felt like he was moving through water. Shaky. When was running so hard? Every step felt like his last...

He was standing in a medical tent.

Clarice, he registered with relief. Here. Fine. Not...the image of Julie popped up again. Harrison couldn't concentrate on the instructions. He needed a chair. Was there a chair somewhere? He really needed... he swayed unsteadily.

Relief flowed through Wilson when he saw Allan. He couldn’t bring himself to worry about the swarms the leader had brought with him. Only the fact that help was here registered in his mind. He followed the blast of light, toward Allan as he began to draw out a portal. Wilson ignored the bugs crawling up his legs as he raced for the portal. There was no time for him to feel disgusted. There was only time to escape. He only caught another flash of Allan’s sword before he disappeared through the portal.

It was cold. Wilson didn’t mind the cold. He loved it, actually, but considering he had just been in the Sahara the drastic drop in temperature was a shock to his body. He only managed to walk a few steps away from the portal before he tightly hugged himself. Wilson could hear his teeth rattling quietly beneath the rattle of orders Clarice had given. He gladly took the blanket and wrapped it around his shoulders. Wilson forced his teeth to stop clattering to take a sip of tea. Afterwards, he continued to hold the warm cup with his hands. He tried to make sense of the situation. Wilson was in Antarctica and…infirmary. He should probably go to the infirmary.

He hobbled toward Aleister, Rep, and Cass. “You guys heading toward the infirmary too?”

He'd sustained wounds brought on by recoil but he didn't consider himself to be in need of immediate attention at the infirmary or otherwise. He could go at his own time. He had time unlike ... certain individuals. He didn't feel loss or sadness he just felt numb. Too much loss happened before the mission and too much is happening during the mission.

All he felt was numbness.

Perhaps he was starting to shut himself off from never feeling anything again. Maybe he'd just become like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. it sounded appealing to not feel or think you have no heart. To not be afflicted by the world around you no matter what happened.

Yet ... he still felt concern for fellow hunters and those around him and perhaps there was hope still for him to feel something normal other than nothingness within. Maybe there is a bright side to all this: he'll finally understand all those emo band lyrics when and if he finally gets back.

He was barely aware of anything that was going on. He wanted comfortable, dry and fresh bandages.

An idea flashed a fin in the shallows of his thoughts. Had they made it? Panic seized him for a moment as he looked up, scanning the room frantically.

Familiar blonde. Thank ********, Harrison had made it. But he couldn't see Jordan in the erratic crowd of relieved but grieved hunters. He would be there he told himself, they all had to make it out of there. They had to survive this.

He didn't even reply to Wilson though he gave the other man a not unfriendly look, it was just too much physical effort to speak and he was dog tired.

Syd had dried tear tracks on her face, caking the dust that covered it. She looked as if she had just seen hell--the image of the bugs filling the moon division assistant's body-- She shuddered slightly, barely listening to Allan's instructions and only following the crowd as they headed for the infirmary.

Her hand went out, catching on the back of someone's coat for a moment before letting go again. She wasn't going to cling. That was--no. She just wasn't going to cling, not after what had just happened.

Goddammit, Allan. You'd better come through after us. Or come back. Survive. Please. Jordan stumbled through the portal and into the cold air that felt like a slap in the face, the damp cold of a snowy region rather than the dry chill of desert night. He moved aside automatically so others could come through, but remained by the portal, watching as the rest of the trainees filed in in various states of exhaustion and injury.

If someone's missing, there isn't anything we can do about it, Ferros observed in a subdued tone.

I know. Jordan stayed next to the portal. He'd rest in a minute. He was still okay. More okay than many of them, even.

He didn't remember when they had started moving, just a dim recollection of shouting voices and an underlying buzz and a general sense of needing to vomit.

Jerry's boots crunched on snow, dragging Roar behind him to leave a long, wobbling line. He could barely see, and not just due to exhaustion. Somehow, he managed to make it to the tent.
