You are not allowed to have more than five weapons at one time, and only one of them can be really really effective.
I've seen a few people loading up like bad asses. But the thing is, nobody here is a badass. Therefore you must start off low.
As you go on, you may later find a different weapon, but only once per chapter.
We are currently only on chapter one, so you may end up finding a gun
or sword or whatever later. Try to be realistic though,
your chances of finding a sword, battleaxe, or katana, should be pretty low.
You are never going to find a rocket launcher, laser cannon, or Kawaii super power in this. That only can be done in the New Fear Mode forum.

James just have his handgun and maybe later I will give him a different like a pipe or something. For Valerie...she was a cop when she entered Silent Hill. She brought a shotgun and a handgun and that's it. Are those characters okay?

When Harry sees her, he constantly meets her in dream sequences to uncover memories, and to find out where his daughter is. The first time they meet, Lisa gets up and hugs Harry, and doesn't understand what was going on. The second time, Harry wakes up there, and she tells him about the cult or something... I might have this backwards, but she basically keeps pulling up old memories of hers. The third time Harry sees her, she starts to lose it more, she gets constantly more afraid. Lisa's eyes twitch, and she finds out why "everyone else is dead even though I am still here." Harry finds her for one last time and she is like, "I'm one of them..." She is now one of the undead nurses, and at the end kills Kaufmann. Kind of bring you back now?
