Weapon Crafting

While the Horsemen of War can summon their Clan weapon to them at any point, many take pride in mastering a variety of mundane weaponry as well, both combat and manufacture - no sense in limiting oneself to only one mode of battle, after all! Even 'decorative' weapons bear a brutal edge.

The Crafters' Den is a sheltered platform halfway up a massive pine, with all the materials one might want, other than metal. The head Crafter, a sharp-eyed older Horsewoman, carefully watches all students under her care to ensure a.) nothing goes missing and b.) nobody gets stupid. "You can have enough to make one knife," she grumbles. "And don't waste it, either!"

Can you impress her with your craftsmanship? ... Probably not. But it's worth a try.

Phase One: Weapon Creation

Create a weapon of War and test its mettle. If your craftsmanship is good, you may be victorious and gain the head Crafter's favor. For a minute or two, anyway.

In your first post, roll 3d4 to determine what your knife is made of, how well it is made, and how it is decorated.

First Dice: Material
- 1: Wood (+1 point)
- 2: Seashell (+2 points)
- 3: Bone (+3 points)
- 4: Stone (think flint or obsidian; +4 points)

Second Dice: Craftsmanship
- 1: You're in a bit of a hurry, so... (Shoddy: +1 point)
- 2: You throw something together. It looks kinda close? (Mediocre: +2 points)
- 3: You spend a bit of time on it, and come up with something okay. (Acceptable: +3 points)
- 4: You throw yourself into your work with passion, paying close attention to detail! (Awesome: +4 points)

Third Dice: Artistry
- 1: It's a knife. Does it really matter if it's pretty or not? (Ugly: +1 point)
- 2: You wrap the hilt in leather. Good enough. (Decent: +2 points)
- 3: You wrap the hilt in leather and add a feather. Pretty! (Shiny: +3 points)
- 4: You wrap the hilt in leather and add stylish strands of beads and feathering. That is one cool knife. (Stylish: +4 points)

Roleplay out your knife's creation! At the end of your post, put the specifics of your knife's creation (i.e. Shoddy Stylish Wood Knife) along with the total score (the total of your dice roll).

Phase Two: Weapon Testing

In the Clan of War, there is no such thing as a decorative blade! Even weapons destined to hang on the walls of huts are finished to battle-ready quality. You must test your knife and prove its worth, attacking the simple leathery mannequin kept in the Den for that purpose.

Take your knife's point score from the creation post. This is your knife's HP. You must now do battle until your knife breaks! The number of posts your knife survives determines the number of points you get.

To Do Battle:
Roll 2d4 in each post. The first dice indicates the number of damage your knife does to the test target (for RP flavor!). The second dice indicates the amount of damage your knife takes from the attack.

Battle ends when your knife shatters. Aw. (And yes, this means you can't take it with you. Sorry!)

Using the piece of wood that he had been supplied with, Thanatos started on his knife, carving the rough shape of the weapon out; it might be the first time that he was working with wood, but he liked to think that he was pretty good with tools... And possibly his hands. It took a long time, but he was able to fashion out what looked like a dagger - sharp and narrow on one end to act as the blade, thick on the other end to act as the handle... Not a bad attempt at all, really, all things considered.

In fact, he was pretty pleased with it.

However, while he was usually one to be fussy about details, and the aesthetics of things, he had a feeling that he would not be able to keep the knife. More likely than not, he was going to end up walking away empty-handed, judging from the other students' attempts at this little workshop... Which might be why, instead of painstakingly carving details onto the hilt, or even finding something to decorate it with, he left it as it is - a practical, but rather plain and ugly looking, wooden knife.

From Biskoto's perspective, however, it looked... Like a knife-shaped block of wood. Even if he had carved any details on it, she probably wouldn't be able to pick them up easily.

Acceptable ugly wood knife : 5

Arriving at the Den's practice area, he walked straight towards the leather mannequin, wooden knife in hand; judging from the scratches, holes, and cuts on it, the mannequin must had seen better days... He had to wonder how much abuse it must go through each day, especially since the start of the exchange program with Amityville High.

"Darling?"

Biskoto's hiss snapped him out of his thoughts, and he quickly got to testing the knife, stabbing the mannequin. While he left a dent on the leather, the mannequin managed to cause his wooden knife to splinter - thankfully, the wooden splinters did not hurt him or his familiar.

After the first attempt, he became a little wary; while he didn't mind splinters, it would be back if some got into Biskoto... No doubt the snake would mind, especially since wooden splinters are suck tricky things to pull out of flesh.

Striking the mannequin again, he made a slashing motion instead, wondering if that would work better than a stabbing motion. Leaving a nasty looking scratch across the leathery chest of the mannequin, Thanatos couldn't help but grin; there, much better. The knife held together, although the edge will quickly becoming dull.

Round: 2

At his next strike, however, the wooden knife shattered the moment he lifted it off the dummy, cracking and falling apart in his hand, becoming no more than a few pieces of useless wood on the floor. Despite that, it had done a considerable amount of damage to the mannequin, as there was another scratch right below the first scratch, the "wound" deeper and longer than the previous.

It wasn't a bad knife at all, despite its short lifespan.

Round: 3
HP: -1/5
Damage done: 4
Damage received: 2
