In her wandering about the day before, Mitzi had discovered one of the training opportunities open to the students that actually was not up in the treetops. And with the way she kept getting separated from her friends, and having to deal with the swaying walkways and dead drop edges on her own, she had made a point of remembering how to get there. That way if she found herself alone again - like, surprise, had just happened - there was something new she could try.
She was a little uncomfortable as the elevator lowered her down into the caves, especially after the bumpy ride yesterday on the way up to the class, but she too a deep breath and did her best to stay calm. Toxic air - don't breathe too much. Right. Calm was important. And then it was time to start moving.

As the ghoul made her way through the cave, she did her best not to breathe too deeply, and tried to take the less-strenuous routes, but she could feel the toxic gas starting to get to her. So when she saw the pit, with the thick gas inside it, she figured faster was better. Unfortunately, she'd underestimated how deep it would be. The drop hurt, a lot. She managed to shift into a roll as she landed, but her legs were definitely aching, and the rocks on the ground certainly didn't help.

Up ahead the tunnel ended in a pool of water. Mitzi too a deep breath at the point where the toxic gas looked least dense, and then dived in. There certainly wasn't time to go back, after all. As she was swimming, though, the dark water confused her, and she was having trouble picking out which route might lead her forward. She reached a dead end, and started to flail, not sure there was time for her to get back and pick another route.

Somehow the ghoul managed to backtrack far enough to find the way forward again, and this time she took the other branch. She continued on in darkness, feeling her way, and felt something brush up against her. It was all she could do not to cry out and lose what little air she had left. Then there was light ahead, enough at least to see the surface, and she was breaking free and gasping for breath. She'd made it!

Now that she was soaking wet but at least past the pools, the tunnels started to close in around her. She tried to pick the largest ones, if only because the smaller ones were likely to turn into dead ends, or at the least would have a risk of getting stuck. Somehow she got lucky, and none of the tunnels were blocked. She did at one point, though, when the way was too dark to see, suddenly find herself tangled in a mess of cobwebs. She yelped, and did her best to brush them off, but that only seemed to have brought the webs' maker. She felt something sting her, and she quickly continued on, before it could bite again. Nonetheless her shoulder started to throb around the bite, and it slowed her down.

And then in front of her was the way out, and the door was falling. She tried to pick up her pace, but between the spider bite and the dense poisonous gas, there wasn't anything she could do. She reached it just as it settled against the ground, and slammed her fist against it in frustration. She'd been so close!
But she felt the door give a little under her hand. Wait, maybe she could break it down!

Well, this was training, right? So she was allowed to summon her weapon. She held out her hand, her spear appearing in her hand, and sliced at the door. She felt it shudder under the impact, noticeably damaged. One more solid hit would do it!
But if she didn't get that hit, as woozy as she was feeling, there was a good chance someone would have to carry her out.

One more swing, and the door gave way beneath her spear. The gas started to billow out, and she followed it. The first breath of fresh air sent her into a coughing fit, and she had to have help to somewhere she could sit down, and breathe, and slowly let the toxin fade enough that she could move again.
But she'd made it. By herself, without help. She was actually pretty proud of herself.
HP: 5 Cumulative damage: 9 (and this darn well better be enough)
