ROLLING DICE: (you can roll up to 3 times per patrol)

- 1- 20: You see nothing, but you hear the sound of something rumbling, of clashing noises in the distance.
- 21- 40: You encounter a large, oversized insect. It screeches and hurls itself at you! You manage to barely fend it off but you take -10 damage.
- 41 - 60: You see a strange hole in the sand, walking closer towards it. It's a trap! A giant six-foot scorpion springs out and nearly disembowels you with its tail. You barely avoid the attack, but take heavy damage while taking it out. -20 damage
- 61- 80: You hear screeching noises a little further away, and see a Moon Hunter battling with an oversized scorpion. You go to help them, but take damage in the process too. -10 damage
- 81 - 100: You walk around and suddenly hit something odd in the ground. They look like strange flecks of dark red, but the sand quickly sweeps it away.

Clerise scanned the horizon for other groups, going in a direction that was...

Distinctly away from everyone else. She had her Runic dagger out, spinning it, vaguely wishing she had more to try and juggle with.

Then again. The only reason Clerise had this dagger was because her...main weapon was...

The trainee fished her unsummoned weapon out of her pocket, smoothing a finger over his broken face, a dismal expression on her face.

"I'm tired of this s**t already," is all she muttered, kicking at a rock in the sand with a sigh. "I can't believe our goal is to appear as disorganized as possible. I don't think we'll fool ******** anyone."

There was red beneath her toes, but it vanished in the wind.

He was almost ridiculously tired and cursing his body as they wandered along. He'd changed the dressings on his shoulder at the very least, that had helped a bit. Though he was still exhausted and aware of it.

< You think you are aware? William it's me who is trying to hold you together dear. It's not easy. >

He eyed Clerise as they walked, noting the dagger with a tiny frown. "Tell me about it. Though I dunno, I think we come across as pretty ******** disorganised generally. But I don't think its actually a ruse."

There was very little of his usual sarcasm in his tone, something definitely distant about him. "I just take ******** consolation its probably only a matter of time before its over."

Two defeatists plodding along was probably not for the best, but hey, gotta take what's given to you.

I hope you're happy when I ******** die because I can't defend myself. I hope you're ******** happy.

She laughed, cynical. "No s**t. Sometimes it feels like the division heads are organized and have failed to ******** filter anything down."

Clerise thought of Sandy, of Barney, of the various missions where they'd been sent out as little more than bait.

"I wish the end would just hurry up and get it over with," is Clerise's equally distant reply, lips pursed.

"It doesn't even have the decency to be swift."

"Have to agree with you." Earlier he'd had no intention of walking into death, he'd been determined he'd come back home. That he had everything in the world to come back to and fight for. Looking back at his thoughts earlier it felt like another person entirely, an optimistic stupid naive man he no longer related to. And he wasn't even ******** sure how he'd gotten there.

What mattered now was he was thinking clearly again. He'd not done anything stupid. Well okay. Maybe he had done something stupid. Attacking Harrison had been out of line.

"I just wish s**t hadn't gone as wrong as it has on this mission so ******** far. "

He wanted to ask her how she was holding up but at the same time, didn't dare.

And then out of nowhere another one of those ******** BUGS. He snarled in anger again and in a flash summoned Tracey. This one was easier to dispatch than the other had been but it still got a good swipe at him.

Clerise pondered the idea of saying her grand goodbyes.

Clarice. Sasha. Jordan. Rep. Marcus. Dakota. She could practically hear herself spin a spiel for each of them, but there would be no real way to manage it without rousing suspicion.

A pause, glancing over at him. "I think i missed something." She doesn't ask for elaboration, nor does she imply that she needs to know.

From the rumbling in the ground, Clerise leaped back as Rep cut a creature down. Probably one of the babies from the centipede monsters they'd fought before.

God. She feels practically ******** neutered.

"There's no horsemen yet. It could be significantly worse than it is." With a gauntlet clad hand, she points to where she'd seen Rep's scars, then at her own.

The ground shakes beneath her feet, the sound of monsters burrowing far away audible from below the sand.

"You didn't miss much, just me making sure the last few hours of my life will be ******** gut wrenchingly awkward. And realising people I thought were my mates really aren't. Not you at least, you are still sound, you've never done anything that's /really/ ******** gotten to me." he gave her a fleeting honest smirk. "I mean you've pissed me the ******** off but that's about it, and most people have done that."

Once again, he kicked sand over the dead bug as if burying it would somehow make its memory cease to be.

"And there aren't horsemen yet. But its just a matter of time. Hell we are probably the ******** bait all over again. Trainees on a platter, come and ******** get it!" He raised his voice as he yelled the last comment, as if defying the desert to do just that.

And was met with a replying screech. He blinked and picked up his pace to see what the hell the noise was, just in time to see a solitary moon hunter fighting one of the creatures from earlier. With a sigh, he charged in to help finish the ******** thing off. It was his job wasn't it? The guy wasn't as grateful as he could have been. Apparently he was "totally fine".

Rep just sighed and waved the guy off indifferently.

"I'm ******** done fighting for other people." he stated bluntly to Clerise. "All you get back is ******** scars."

Clerise gave him A Look: and it was incredulity combined with an edge of disbelief. "Gotcha."

She wondered what the ******** had happened in such a short period of time. He had been more together than her just a few days ago, and now, he was.

Well, he was certainly in a different mood. Not that Clerise could blame him, but...

"I'm glad we're on the same page, at least." The acrobat offered Rep a weak smile. "I ******** hate you just long enough to get it out of my system."

Clerise offered him a quick shoulder squeeze, the action expressing all the gratitude she could manage.

"Ugh, thanks Willy. I don't really want to think about the fact that I am, essentially, a ******** mozzarella stick."
The acrobat scrunched her nose up, sticking her tongue out at the other hunter.

You have reduced me to an appetizer. I am going to ******** die. It's okay, I guess. I'm sort of coming to accept it.

And then he was off again, fighting things like a good little sunny, helping out some hopeless moon hunter that thought they were too good for his help. She waited around on one foot for him, kicking the sand.

"I'm done, too," Clerise replied tartly. "Only I don't have a choice in the matter, really." She narrowed her eyes at him, just...looking.

Really looking. It probably wouldn't help her understand anything, but maybe he'd spill something.

A smirk was what her comment earned her, he knew what she meant without her having to say so. It was as much as he might as said if the tables were turned. "Out here we are all ******** mozzarella sticks, so you are in good company."

He wandered along in silence for a short time before finally, and seemingly out of nowhere speaking up.
"I saw Jordan and Harrison kissing on the ******** field before we came here." it made him cringe to hear it said aloud like that. Stark and horrible and open and oh ******** god someone cover up that statement before it embarrasses itself.

He gritted his teeth. "I trusted both of them. I was being strung along."

PostPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:39 pm

"Ugh. And our guts will be the marinara." It was morbid, but a hint of her usual playful personality was shining through a little-- not enough to laugh again, but.

She traced the edge of a scar that had cut her to the jawbone, feeling the indent of healing skin. Rep's confession made Clerise stop short, and she turns to him, a hand on her hip.

"Oh is that what this is?" She continued to look at him, eyes narrowed-- her face wasn't angry or even shocked.

Just...

Puzzled.

Puzzled that HE wasn't angry-- not like he had been a few moments ago. It was a different kind of statement, and the fact that he felt betrayed was...An interesting addition.

She tapped her toe, giving Rep this look:

User Image

Obviously, she didn't get it. The stars were not aligned in favour of her brain on this day.

"You know, people are pretty open these days. I'm sure they'd be down for a threesome, dude."

Spoken like a true girl without any concept of monogamy.

He paused mid-step and gave her a puzzled look, feeling as if somewhere his brain had jumped onto other tracks entirely from hers. She wasn't supposed to be flippant about these things, she wasn't supposed to act as if it was no big deal.

And oh GOD. He didn't even know what to say to the threesome comment, his brain just about freezing dead on the spot.

He could always trust Clerise to throw him a curve ball. Maybe that was why he got along with her so much. He crossed his arms and looked offended. "That's not the problem all right? The problem is the fact I'm not a ******** homo."

< ... > He swore he could hear the stern look.

"Or.. I.. I don't even ******** know right? But its not .. I'd never ******** ...that.. no."

He was about as vivid blushing red as he ever got, looking flustered. "It's ******** irrelevant okay because they are together. I was just a ******** retard who they strung along for shits and giggles. That's why I'm ******** done with people. The first ******** people I trust stab me in the back."

He snarled "I knew there was a reason I thought gays were ******** scum."

PostPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:57 pm

"So what's the problem then?" The redhead cocked her head like a baffled puppy, extremely confused.

"If you're not gay, then why do you mind them sword fighting?" She took her pointer fingers and rubbed them against each other, a brow raised high.

But then he...explained.

"Ohhhh." Closeted? Well, it was always the loud one.

"Dude, I get that you're condensing, but I am seriously confused. Let's rewind before you like, disown some decent guys here." Rep's drama was a distraction from her own, and she poked him straight in the forehead.

"So you saw them making out. You are their friend. You are 'not gay'," (Clerise included airquotes) "and you're ******** pissed about it."

Another poke to the forehead. "Have you asked them? Do you know how many people I've made out with without being in a relationship with?"

He probably did not know.

He probably did not want to know, either.

Her hand gesture did nothing to settle his nerves. He just winced at the frankness of it and got a little bit redder. Jesus Clerise, ******** mental images. His face got just a little bit redder, actually rubbing his cheeks with his hands as if somehow this would restore natural blood flow.

The entire time she spoke he eyed her suspiciously, seeking for any trace of mockery, any trace he was walking into some sort of verbal trap that would leave him vulnerable again. But he wasn't sure that was the case, she'd always been brutally frank and honest, even to her own detriment.

"I've not asked them. But the reactions I've had." The look of realisation he hadn't been able to bear to linger on from Jordan. "Have implied that its..serious." Though she'd cast the seeds of doubt in his mind, all he had to go on was a kiss, a kiss and nothing more than that. They were close, but so were a lot of people. The doubt somehow made it worse, like he might have destroyed two friendships over an irrational spike of hurt. If that was the case he didn't deserve to come back from this mission.

"And I know a kiss doesn't mean a relationship." He knew very little about kisses, his first had been mere weeks ago. "But I ******** feel like this one does. And the fact it was hidden from me for what it ******** was... it ******** gets to me right? Its like."

Jordan's words came back to him from when they'd talked. The way he'd reacted when Rep had raged at him for not telling him about his sexuality. Maybe they hadn't told him because they felt he wouldn't get it, he'd be angry over the two of them being together. And he had. But for other reasons entirely.

He wilted. "I'm so ******** lost man. And this is the worst time to be."

PostPosted: Tue Apr 03, 2012 8:17 pm

Clerise actually giggled at Rep turning into a tomato, hiding it behind her metal-clad hands, looking like herself for the first time since the colossal failure of their external mission.

"Before you get buttsore in any so red."

But then he kept talking, and the more that Rep ranted, the more Clerise's heart went out to him. She didn't get it, not really, but he was obviously incredibly conflicted about something. Whether it was having true to heart real dude friends or something more life altering, she was sure that it was like a little warzone in that head of his.

Sex and sexuality had come to her with ease, and Clerise had realized early on that she liked everything humanity had to offer her. Sure, everything had been terribly awkward when she was a teenager, but she had worked it out then, not during a ******** apocalypse.

"Pfft, okay, yeah. We're all kinda close, dude. Minus some dipshits. Plus, we've already determined that we are tasty snackies for the ponies. So, listen. I dunno what the hell they get up to in each other's pants, and frankly, you know them better than I do. I can't pretend to pass judgment on what they could be, or try to make you feel better-- that's not my schtick."

What Clerise COULD do was try to beat some sense into him. Since she couldn't literally, words would have to do.

"I'm just saying, tell one of them what you're telling me. I mean, I'm sure as s**t not going to, so you don't get to have that easy out. If we don't want to be ponybait, we kind of need everyone we can to count own to have our backs."

Rep was given a look that implied ESPECIALLY you, mister running into danger without any ******** given. "Deus expands our ******** world whether we like it or not, dude. You need to deal with it and use your words like an adult."

She was an absolute master of making him squirm, he had no idea how she did it, but every single thing she said was progressively more embarrassing for him than the next. She had not just ******** mentioned the blushing. Had it been anyone else he might have gotten angry, but given who he was dealing with, that wouldn't be worth it at all.

He didn't need her to speculate on them and was glad she didn't seem inclined to, nevertheless listening to everything she had to say. She was right, it was horrible to think about but she was. He would need to address it at some point. Sooner than later with lives on the line. But ******** just the thought of trying to explain this scared him more than the horsemen.

"I wish you weren't so ******** /right/." he grudgingly grunted. "And yeah. Yeah, don't mention.. this.. to anyone. Not that I think you ******** would or anything. But yeah, I'd be forced to like, take measures I guess." he shrugged, it was a feeble threat, but it was meant more as a request than anything else.

"We should head back." he gave her a lazy grin, the first earnest smile he'd managed since earlier. "God, I wish I didn't have to ******** grow up here. s**t was so much ******** easier back home."
