ROLLING DICE: (you can roll up to 3 times per patrol)

- 1- 20: You see nothing, but you hear the sound of something rumbling, of clashing noises in the distance.
- 21- 40: You encounter a large, oversized insect. It screeches and hurls itself at you! You manage to barely fend it off but you take -10 damage.
- 41 - 60: You see a strange hole in the sand, walking closer towards it. It's a trap! A giant six-foot scorpion springs out and nearly disembowels you with its tail. You barely avoid the attack, but take heavy damage while taking it out. -20 damage
- 61- 80: You hear screeching noises a little further away, and see a Moon Hunter battling with an oversized scorpion. You go to help them, but take damage in the process too. -10 damage
- 81 - 100: You walk around and suddenly hit something odd in the ground. They look like strange flecks of dark red, but the sand quickly sweeps it away.

It felt good to be walking finally.

Away from the tent, away from the people back there. Just him and the desert.

He summoned Tracey too, the sun overhead quickly warming the black metal of the axe, making it.. him feel almost alive.

am alive.>

<><******** hell the desert was hot. That was probably a given, but it was hard not to think about it. Especially when he was wearing a heavy jacket and a scarf he refused to take off. In any event the desert was much ******** better to think about than the false friends he'd left ******** traitors everywhere. He wanted to hate them both. He really really did.

A comforting hand on his shoulder.
Witty retorts that always cracked him up.

But he couldn't even manage that.

Suddenly the sound of buzzing, screeching reached him and he froze in his tracks like he was in a nightmare all over again. He panicked as the massive insect flew straight at him, taking a moment or two to even get his brain in gear to swing at it, horribly reminded of the lair, of the unfortunate victim eaten from the inside.

The ******** thing managed to cut him up pretty decently before he managed to smash it on the sand, hitting it again and again, long after it was dead.

After a while, he gave up on taking his rage out on the mangled bug, getting no pleasure from dicing the thing to tiny pieces and kicking sand over it to hide it from view. Despite the fact it was scorchingly sunny, he shivered, the thought of the ******** bugs sending a shiver along his spine. He was starting to hate them almost as much as snakes.

The angel was right, that he should focus. But it was being surprisingly difficult to do so, he wasn't disciplined enough to keep his mind off things and the more he ******** tried to keep his mind off the current problems, the more it circled back to them, with a vivid intensity.

How the ******** had he ended up in this mess anyway? He should have just been like.. disgusted or some s**t and gone on his way. Why had it /hurt/?

<< I don't want you to say it >>

< Then I won't. >

Tracey was right though, deep down he assumed he did know. Even though it was unacceptable to him, intolerable against everything he'd known. He kept thinking about the guy he'd stabbed and his reasons, realising more and more it was him who'd been at fault. He hadn't felt guilty then, he was starting to now. It should have been him.

< William > the angel gently insisted, but it was too late.

Next thing he knew the sand was shifting under foot and he was slipping into a hole in the ground, scrabbling for traction. "******** SCREECH and he was narrowly missed by the thing's massive tail, raw primal terror really taking hold as he realised he was forced to deal with it. It was impossible to run away with the exhausting lack of resistance of the sand underfoot.

He drew Tracey and turned to fight it head on with a frustrated snarl of anger. The unfortunate creature was subjected to all the pent up hurt and rage the sun hunter could manage to muster into his already exhausted and injured body.

"Play me like a ******** FOOL." he roared to no one. It was good to be alone. "******** with my ******** HEAD."

He swung Tracey around in a massive arc that sent the creature reeling backwards before with an indignant hiss and a swipe of razor sharp pincers, it lashed back at him, striking him and sending him sprawling in the sand. He laughed like a madman. "Gotta do ******** better than that."

Another slash. "You." and another "can't ********" again and again he swung at it "hurt me" the adrenaline was like a drug "like they can."

He felt invincible. This was why he fought. This was why he'd come here to fight. All that mattered was the dance of life and death.

Once again he was caught out, this time lashed by the razor sharp sweep of its tail. It was agony, but pain he hardly felt, the physical was always easy to tune out. Again and again he swung, even aware as he was that he shouldn't even be fighting in his current state, but he didn't care. Last mission, last chance, he didn't need to think about the future.

They didn't have a future anyway.

"Never again." he snarled as with a finality he buried Tracey almost to the handle in the twitching dying creature. He was almost disappointed as he won.

He eyed the sands, considering heading out there anyway, feeling at this point there was little to lose and all the thrill to gain.

But he felt the angel's fear at this thought and couldn't do it. It was one thing to do it to himself, but he couldn't do it to Tracey. "Yeah. Lets head back."
