Nyyrikki hadn't really been than interested in seeing the dorms. He could sleep or rest or whatever later. This was a new place with all sorts of things to learn. Things that didn't have to do with reading or the history of human dust bunnies or what have you. And top of the list of things he wanted to look into; weapons crafting.

He'd gone as far as to take Danny by the hand and all but drag her to the pine tree that housed the crafters' den, and bounced on the balls of his feet the entire elevator ride up. Between leaving the orientation and making his way here, he had discovered that his chains were gone, so he was itching to get his hands on some form of weaponry. "This is going to be really neat, Danny. I've never used and actual weapon other than my own."

Well, he'd used a rusted pipe before, but he wasn't sure that counted.

Rikki's hand was fiercely gripped in her own. It wasn't that she was afraid of the island or anything. It was just that after the trials of war ... she wasn't letting anything past these people. There could be a spike filled pit just at the top of this tree waiting to kill her. She had a distinct frown on her face, but it lifted when she saw how excited Rikki was. He had these tiny little moments of boilish excitement that were just adorable.

"D'you think they'll let us keep them?" she asked idly, not nearly as excited as Rikki was. Then again, Danny hadn't used one weapon her entire life either.

As the elevator opened she gaped a little, but the head crafter's harsh voice stunted her awe and wonder. She found a seat at one of the tables and said, "My dagger's gonna be way better than yours." Her words were a challenge but she kissed his cheek lightly and then went to get her supplies.

Weapon Crafting

While the Horsemen of War can summon their Clan weapon to them at any point, many take pride in mastering a variety of mundane weaponry as well, both combat and manufacture - no sense in limiting oneself to only one mode of battle, after all! Even 'decorative' weapons bear a brutal edge.

The Crafters' Den is a sheltered platform halfway up a massive pine, with all the materials one might want, other than metal. The head Crafter, a sharp-eyed older Horsewoman, carefully watches all students under her care to ensure a.) nothing goes missing and b.) nobody gets stupid. "You can have enough to make one knife," she grumbles. "And don't waste it, either!"

Can you impress her with your craftsmanship? ... Probably not. But it's worth a try.

Phase One: Weapon Creation

Create a weapon of War and test its mettle. If your craftsmanship is good, you may be victorious and gain the head Crafter's favor. For a minute or two, anyway.

In your first post, roll 3d4 to determine what your knife is made of, how well it is made, and how it is decorated.

First Dice: Material
- 1: Wood (+1 point)
- 2: Seashell (+2 points)
- 3: Bone (+3 points)
- 4: Stone (think flint or obsidian; +4 points)

Second Dice: Craftsmanship
- 1: You're in a bit of a hurry, so... (Shoddy: +1 point)
- 2: You throw something together. It looks kinda close? (Mediocre: +2 points)
- 3: You spend a bit of time on it, and come up with something okay. (Acceptable: +3 points)
- 4: You throw yourself into your work with passion, paying close attention to detail! (Awesome: +4 points)

Third Dice: Artistry
- 1: It's a knife. Does it really matter if it's pretty or not? (Ugly: +1 point)
- 2: You wrap the hilt in leather. Good enough. (Decent: +2 points)
- 3: You wrap the hilt in leather and add a feather. Pretty! (Shiny: +3 points)
- 4: You wrap the hilt in leather and add stylish strands of beads and feathering. That is one cool knife. (Stylish: +4 points)

Roleplay out your knife's creation! At the end of your post, put the specifics of your knife's creation (i.e. Shoddy Stylish Wood Knife) along with the total score (the total of your dice roll).

Phase Two: Weapon Testing

In the Clan of War, there is no such thing as a decorative blade! Even weapons destined to hang on the walls of huts are finished to battle-ready quality. You must test your knife and prove its worth, attacking the simple leathery mannequin kept in the Den for that purpose.

Take your knife's point score from the creation post. This is your knife's HP. You must now do battle until your knife breaks! The number damage your knife does AND the number of posts your knife survives determines the number of points you get.

To Do Battle:
Roll 2d4 in each post. The first dice indicates the number of damage your knife does to the test target. The second dice indicates the amount of damage your knife takes from the attack.

Battle ends when your knife shatters. Aw. (And yes, this means you can't take it with you. Sorry!)

Nyyrikki shrugged. "I don't know," he admitted. He'd like to be able to keep whatever they made, but he couldn't imagine they'd let them run around with shoddily made weapons when he couldn't even keep his chains. Still, he was in it for the weapons practice. That was worth enough for him.

He smiled and watched her run off, and then went to collect his own supplies. Which really, consisted of mostly stone and leather. He knew stone would be the best choice of the materials present, because it was the sturdiest. He'd contemplated bone for a moment, but bones broke easily. He had yet to meet a rock he could break.

He spent a long time working on the shape of his knife. He didn't know much about how to do it or make it look right, because he'd only ever worked with his chains, but he put a lot of effort into it. Often throughout the process he could be caught with his tongue hanging out as he tried to get just the right angle. In the end it probably wasn't the absolute best knife, but he was pleased with it. He only bothered to wrap strips of leather around the handle, decoration-wise, and even that was more practicality over aesthetics. He wanted to protect his hand from the rough cut of the handle.

It was a decent knife, and Rikki was happy.

Danny looked at the supply table. Which thing did she taaaaaake? Rikki was going for the stone, but Danny didn't see how she'd be able to work with that. Stone was hard to didn't bend at all. The bone looked REALLY JACKIN' NEAT but the dice won't let me have it it didn't strike Danny's fancy as working well in battle. So she stuck with wood. She understood wood quite well. It cracked and burnt under her powers, and she felt comfortable with utilizing it as best she could. So she grabbed it and headed back to the table.

She squeezed into the table until her thighs were right up against Rikki's. Even in a foreign land she was all up on her boilfriend. She ignored the tools that were on the table and just began shaping the knife with her fire. Once that was done she took a claw and a tiny TINY flame and began etching skulls and thorns and bats onto the flat surface of the blade. It essentially ended up looking something like a very fancy kitchen knife- but she put so much effort into it that it was practically pathetic.

After that she went to the table once more and grabbed as many shiny objects as she could. She attached leather to the hilt and then basically bedazzled her butcher's knife. It was the sparkliest death machine in the world.

And she loved every part of it.

She looked over at Rikki's blade and said, "Yours isn't pretty at all!" She held out her own blade for him to see just how pretty hers was.

Rikki scoffed at Danny's over-decorated knife. What need was there for feathers and beads, except maybe to collect the blood of the target. "It doesn't need to be pretty. It needs to be functional." As if to punctuate his words, he flipped the knife so he was holding it by the blade and then tossed it at the target. It only stuck in by the tip, but it held up to the impact.

"See? Functional." Was Rikki a little egotistical because he used a weapon every day? ... Yeah, a little.

"But Rikki!" she whined, very defensive of her new best friend the knife. "It's okay knife. I think you're BEAUTIFUL."

She watched Rikki throw the knife and clapped, mouth agape. "Rikki you're awesome!" she said, completely adoring her boilfriend's skill. It made sense- he did work with a weapon every day. She was proud that she had such a great teacher to show her how weapons worked.

Danny imitated his stance and chucked the knife at the dummy, landing a hit right in the dummy's face, breaking the leather. "Did I do it right?" she asked, eyes sparkling.

His pride definitely swelled a little, but what immediately squashed like a bug by how well Danny threw. She was stronger than him, that much was fact, but couldn't he just be better at something for once? He was starting to look a little pathetic next to his own ghoulfriend. Still, he kissed her cheek and praised her. "You did fantastic," he told her as he fetched their knives and handed hers back to her.

He held the blade of his own again and tossed it like he had before. It just barely stuck again, and this time it seemed to be a little more jarred by the throw. That.. wasn't good.

Danny smiled and felt accomplished with herself when Rikki complimented her skill and kissed her cheek. Getting praise from the master himself! The head crafter glared at them and she looked away, but she she was giggling. She was so glad the war island was much better than she was imagining. She hadn't seen a single spike pit anywhere.

She took her dagger from Rikki's hand and started slashing at the dummy without throwing it, taking her own approach to it. It was like punching with her fists, but with a dagger. Sort of.

Danny was discovering something very strange. She actually liked this island.

Nyyrikki let out a laugh as Danny just went full blast at the dummy. He would try that, but he figured he was probably a lot better at ranged fighting, and more seasoned at it, so he practiced tossing the knife once again, as soon as he had a window where he wouldn't stab Danny.

The knife stuck it what would have been the dummy's eye, but upon jarring impact there was a loud crack, and the knife dropped to the ground in two pieces. "Jack dammit," he growled.

Danny took a few steps back and chucked her knife at dummy, but she wasn't even paying attention and it grazed the side lightly.

She was distracted because Rikki's knife had just cracked and broken into two pieces on the ground. "Ohhhh Rikki!" she said sincerely, running over to pick up the pieces. "I'm sorry!" She frowned and held out the pieces for him, mourning the loss of his knife.

"Stay here until I'm done though?" she asked with big eyes. She really didn't want to be alone with the head crafter. A shudder went down her spine at the thought.

Nyyrikki took the halves of his knife, but promptly tossed them to the side. There was no point hold on to something that was useless. At least Danny still had a working weapon, which was honestly... Infuriating.

"Of course, I'll stay," he laughed like it was a ridiculous question. "You should work on your stance since your knife is still strong, though." He stood behind her and pushed her legs open wider with his own, and pushed her elbows up. "You can control where the knife goes better like this."

Danny stumbled into the stance he'd given her, but keeping it was the hard part. With him so ... close it was rather difficult to focus on anything but his arms holding up hers. She ended up breaking the stance he was trying hard to teach her, and flopping and flailing her arms all over the place. Rikki should probably give up on his pupil. She was doomed to fail.

The knife went flying and indeed hit the mannequin, but it bounced of the side and clattered into the table, and ricocheted off the beads onto the ground. Her eyes went wide and she looked at Rikki and then started laughing.

The head crafter didn't think it was very funny though. She picked up the knife and threw it at the mannequin. It just narrowly missed Danny's nose and smacked in the direct center of the dummy. With a gulp, Danny went and grabbed her knife.

"She's not very nice. We should get out of here," she mumbled.

Nyyrikki scowled at the crafter with all the displeasure he felt at the obvious threat to his ghoulfriend. Horseman or not, he didn't well tolerate someone being rude and nasty to Danny. But to prove he hand been fazed, he shook his head. "No. Try it one more time. Elbows up, knees apart," he reminded her.

Danny nodded and threw the dagger once more, but her heart just wasn't in it. She was bored of dagger throwing and wanted to go explore more of the island. Lucky for her, as soon as it smacked into the dummy the dagger crumbled and cracked around all of her designwork. She practically cheered as the thing hit the ground.

"Aww darn. Okay let's go find something else to do!" she said excitedly, already taking Rikki's hand and pulling him towards the elevator.

The Toxic Cave

Sometimes you just end up in places not really… good for scaring. Or just not good for one’s health. Which oddly enough, can be a toxic cave filled with noxious gas. Sent down an elevator, students wait at the bottom as they are sealed in. Even those who can fly find they must go down…to get back up. Several outposts exist in the cavern to make sure that no one ends up dead, horsemen having taken a certain mixture that allows them temporary immunity. A clank and a light purple gas starts to fill the room. The test has begun, so students better start to run!

Quote:
Rules:
-Running out of HP means game over, regardless of any saves you might have
-If your student falls into two or more of the automatic HP reductions, please only apply one! You may ignore the others.
-If you use a save start at the place you left off

Stage 1
RNG 1-3 in your FIRST post. Subtract one to see how many lives you have. (IE get a 2, subtract 1 you have 1 save)

Stage 2

Running, the hall ends in a pit. You need to descend into the thick of the poison haze to go further. But- it’s hard to see where it might be safe. Thick ropes hang from the ceiling and rocks just from the sides. Roll 1 d4 to advance!
1- You grab the rope and slide your way down but ouch! Rope burn! -5 HP
2- You try to go down the walls… and make it! Better move though the gas is thick down here!
3- You jump down… not the best idea. -10 HP
4- You try the walls but miss a step falling and knocking you out (Fail)
If your a student that can fly/has wings in any form, you take an automatic -5 HP

Stage 3

Running down yet another hall, you have to dive into a pool of dark water and swim through a tunnel.
Roll 1 d6 to see what happens.

1- You manage to swim quickly and reach the other side just in time!
2- Fish bones dig into you, slowing you down and making you swallow some water! -10 HP
3- Weird. It feels like- Uh oh. You somehow managed to end up at a dead end. No time- you fall back and let the gas overtake you(Fail)
4- Something brushes past your body but lucky enough, you make it to the other side.
5- You try swimming up too soon and bump your head! -5 HP
6- Something bit you, but you can’t tell what, -5 HP
If your student is aquatic, or fire based -5 HP automatically

Stage 4

The path seems to be getting smaller, looks like you’ll have to crawl you way out but- which path do you take? Roll 1 d8.
1 and 3- You run into a spider who bites you for a nasty sting! -10 HP
2 and 4- You end up taking a wrong turn and hit your head! -10 HP
5 and 7- You managed it somehow to crawl you way to the next room, which has yet to be filled with that gas or…
6 and 8- You get lost and get…sleepy… (fail!)
If your natural form is bigger than that of a dog, take -5 HP

Stage 5
The last part of the tunnel! You can see light at the end but-
It seems that in order to get there, you’ll have to beat the doors that are closing, trying to trap you in the poison caverns! Just as you make it to the end- the door slams down, leaving you stuck. You’ll have to break your way through!
Roll to attack! For each miss -10 HP, you may keep going until you break free or pass out.
For year 3, you must subtract versus the normal 6! It seems the horsemen expect a bit more from you.
