Death Hunter DEATHSWEEPER General Information The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.
If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.
If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.
Mechanics roll 1 d10 check for hp loss and death decide whether or not to use your bonuses if you survive, repeat. roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are! -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. live 04. live 05. - 50% HP 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. live 10. horrible death
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.
(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

Madison had never done the course of her own division - true, that was because her division had changed when she'd become an intermediate trainee, but still. She wasn't quite fully comfortable in Death yet. Maybe running their - our, she corrected herself mentally - would help her feel more prepared.
The course itself was quite a bit more intimidating than the Life division equivalent. She folded her arms and glared at the tiled floor, then at the smiley face. Whose horrible idea was the smiley face, anyway? It didn't seem like something Caelius would do. He didn't know what a smile was.
Stealth. Survival.
Right.

Madison studied the tiles nearest her - for a moment, she considered jumping over the first row entirely, but that seemed a little too ambitious. Maybe another time. Instead, she crouched on the sidelines and looked, and looked, and looked... Okay. She had a decent gut feeling. Tensing, she slid forward onto a tile, bracing herself for- ... Nothing happened. Anticlimactic, but that was a good thing in this case. Status Step: 1HP: 50/50 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 1

Right. Second row. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. The anticipation was absolutely horrible. Something she'd need to work on. Being a Hunter was all about knowingly going into danger, and she couldn't let that knowledge freak her out and sabotage her before she started. Another breath. Okay. One of the tiles looked slightly off; not that one. Another, bloodstained, was intimidating, but it seemed level. Maybe the tiles moved around? Maybe it was a red herring? She didn't like the look of any of them... Bloodstains it was. She hopped over, wincing in anticipation, but nothing happened. Nothing slid or shifted or shot out to murder her. Okay. Good. Emboldened, Madison carefully lined up her next jump, aiming for an innocent-looking tile - but as soon as her foot hit it, a shock of electricity jolted through her body. She nearly lost her balance and fell, but forced herself to land both feet on the tile. Ow. Ow. Ow- The current died, and she was left shaking and feeling unpleasantly fried, but still mostly okay. The ******** smiley face seemed amused. Damn that face. Status Step: 3HP: 25/50 Flags: 1 Instinctive moves: 1

She was more careful this time, and one thing was starting to worry her - how the hell was she meant to get off this thing once she'd gone the required distance? Was she just doomed to 'die'? Ooh, yeah, that had Caelius written all over it. She scowled and inched forward, scrutinizing the tiles ahead of her. Wait, maybe if she started edging over, she could make it to the side before getting fried. Hm. She picked the most likely looking tile that was heading in the rough direction of the nearest edge, then leapt. Her landing was jarring, but no trap revealed itself. Closer. Okay. She rolled her shoulders and stretched, trying to loosen up; tension made her movements awkward and clumsy. This was a pretty good course for agility, at least, and she could always use practice there. Finally, Madison picked her target and jumped- Not that one!! She spotted the fine holes in the tile in mid-air; she twisted herself off-balance, landing with a heavy thud on the tile next to her original destination. Nothing happened, thankfully, but she could tell now that her first choice had definitely been trapped. Thank god she'd noticed... She had just gotten lucky with that one. If the tile she'd deflected onto had been trapped as well... ugh. Madison winced and stretched again on her safe tile. Still a way to go to get out to safety. She moved quickly, this time stretching to try and jump two tiles at once. It worked, just barely - and the tile she hit was completely inert. Phew. That jump had worked, but one of her calf muscles was now twanging at her in annoyance. Ugh. She'd have to be more careful. This time, she picked a tile right next to the one she was currently on, sidling and poking the new tile with one toe before committing to it. Fortunately, it was fine. Huh. She was so close now, but... ugh. With her leg, she couldn't make the two-tile leap directly to the safe edge of the floor. She'd have to move quickly and hope. Well, she still had her flag, maybe she could... Madison leapt, using the flag's pole to push off the first tile; she felt the trap go off under her, but by then she was past it, and the rising spikes merely shredded flag and pole instead of her. One tile left, she'd hit it with one foot and go- -Her toe hit. Fire gushed. Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow ow-At least when she woke up later, she'd know that she'd made it a full 8 steps. Not half bad for a first try. Status Step: 8HP: 0/50 Flags: used but IT DID NOTHING! Instinctive moves: used
