It had been nearly a week, perhaps more time than that even, since Ujuzi came across Haiji and Dhati, agreeing to join their ranks. The female was taking some time aside to herself to think things over just for the sake of being able to. Ujuzi liked to think, she enjoyed analyzing her life and why things were the way that they were, and in doing so she'd taught herself many valuable lessons along the way.
In uncovering her deeply rooted, more selfish desires she'd found that knowledge meant control. She could control her feelings and wants if she understood what they were, unlike her needs.
For a basic example, she needed a drink of water, so here she was at the riverside quenching her thirst. She instinctively wanted someone to talk to, but because she was aware of this she was able to distract herself with other thoughts, and therefore cope with the fact that there was no one around to fill that want.
Yes, life was fair enough, but company still would've been nice.
Once her throat no longer felt dry, her belly full with liquid life, Ujuzi rose to stand straight again and set off idly down the river while licking her muzzle dry. What adventure would life bring to her and her newfound pack today, she wondered?

Haiji loosely followed the mostly black and white dog, who was beginning to seem more and more like a confidant to her. Someone she could confide in but also rely on. Sure there was Dhati, but he had some things to learn. The way the pack was going to be like and how to hunt. She had noticed him spending more time off with Mataka - what kind of leader would she be if she didn't notice things like that. She might have to talk to him later. Certainly she didn't mind him getting close to another.... but if pups were on the horizon then it was something that would affect the whole pack. They should at least know.
But back to Ujuzi. Haiji looked back over at her from a short distance away. She seemed pretty happy on her own for now. Maybe she wanted some quiet time by herself? Like Haiji did too on occassion. Well, she wouldn't interrupt then, and so laid herself down on the soft grass near the water.

((Just another disclaimer, sweatdrop Ujuzi's ideals and opinions are pretty to the point and come across as very harsh biggrin ;; they don't reflect my own, for one, and 2: She really, really does mean well and is just looking out for everyone's benifit. If she ever comes across as singling anyone out XD;; please don't take offense or think that's the case.
I worry over these things, so I really wanted to get that out and in the open. <3))
Ujuzi was also aware of the pair spending more time in one another's company, but didn't seem to pay it any mind. She suspected that something serious might come of their playing, as both were growing adolescents, but she was sure that Haiji had noticed as well. Ujuzi's own thoughts on pups within the pack? It seemed far too soon. If they birthed a large litter how were three pack members to care for them all? Ujuzi was possibly the oldest amongst them, Mataka wouldn't be able to hunt much, someone had to watch the pups and they couldn't very well hunt one dog at a time and provide for the entire pack.
No one could ever say that Ujuzi sugar-coated anything.
She hadn't noticed being followed at first, or perhaps she did and simply thought that Haiji would approach if she was needed. When the other didn't, however, Ujuzi decided to indulge in her urge for company, and paused. Circling back around and ambling towards the younger female, Ujuzi gazed over her green eyed alpha with a softened glimmer in her eyes.
Haiji was... not quite like a sister, not quite like a daughter, not quite like a niece but not quite a friend either. Ujuzi felt protective towards her, wanted to see her grow to reach her fullest potential. She wanted to see Haiji's dream realized and the pack flourish, was this what it truely meant to have faith in someone? She'd known she did for some time now, but this seemed far more strong than before. Perhaps she was coming to consider Haiji as... laside from her alpha... a sister-friend. Someone that you truely cared for but weren't related to by blood, someone you shared a bond with that wasn't as simple as that of sibling-affection.
"How's the afternoon finding you, Haiji?" She greeted with a faint wag of her tipped tail.

(( I've always thought that Tahja. wink And it's the same with myself. Sometimes being especially mean to a character while rp'ing means I'm closer to the ooc prson that I'm playing with. Because I know them better and like them more, I feel I can take such risks while rp'ing. 3nodding I'm sure no one would take it personally. ))
Black coloured ears flicked at the very quiet sound of Ujuzi's footfalls turning and coming towards her. Sure enough, the older female was seen and Haiji's green eyes looked up. Somewhere in the back of her mind she was relived not to been asked to leave, but then that wasn't a very alpha-like thought. She was leader here, though younger than Ujuzi, and could go where she wanted and call the shots. Perhaps the feeling of relief was because of who this particular wild dog was, a mentor of sorts as well as being a friend.
"It's a quite afternoon." Haiji nodded and gave a yawn of relaxation. "I think the others are enjoying the break. We're still quite small to be staying in any one place for too long but I don't think one afternoon will do any harm." She smilled to herself and then up at Ujuzi. "And some seem to be enjoying these rests more than others I think... especially with each other." She remarked.
"And how about you Ujuzi? I haven't disturbed anything have I?" Again, not a very confident-alpha-comment, but one of a polite friend.

"I've nothing of importance to see to." She replied, not seeing a need to add that Haiji would know if she did.
The older female seated herself and looked off distantly in the direction the other two pack members had taken.
"They do seem to be rather fond of one another." She agreed, settling to lie down now as she had a thought. She supposed that one day she'd like to find a suitable mate and have a litter of their own, but that seemed like a far off future. The pack needed to find it's footing first. "And no, I also see no harm in resting for a day. How does pack life suit you so far, Haiji?"

Haiji gave a small non-commital nod. She hadn't really told the others what she might expect of them but at this early stage she didn't think there was alot of need. They all pitched in when hunting, although Dhati still needed practice. And it really was only her task to lead them onwards in their treck, although she didn't mind them wandering off by themselves for a while.
"Yes...." She replied slowly when it came to the topic of her cousin and the newest member of their little pack. "Do you think there's anything to it? Anything serious I mean? Maybe I should ask him..." She seemed to think on it for a moment before answering Ujuzi's other question. "Oh I am enjoying it! I haven't been this well fed since mother... died. And the company is good too. How about you? You were used to being on your own when we first met, weren't you? Must be something of a change."

"I did live with my birthpack for a while before I set out by myself. I... do believe I made the right decision. I didn't quite fit in back home." She offered a small quirk of a smirk, saying this in confidence to Haiji.
The pup wasn't so young anymore, Ujuzi did notice her growing in the passing days. Now as the two lay in the light of the open skies the older of them let loose a yawn and shook it off after with a whine.
"I rather like the notion of traveling rather than being tied down in one place for the rest of my life."

The younger female returned the small smile after a while. A family difference perhaps? But it wasn't Haiji's business really. Ujuzi might have joined so as to leave her past behind. And Haiji looked up to her enough not to ask more. She'd be told if Ujuzi wanted to share it.
"Well I'm glad youre here with us." She nodded. "We need you." This made her smile more before breaking eye contact and looking up at the sky and then out to the horizon. "Ah yes, travelling. It's how I lived before. I don't know how I would feel staying in one place. Maybe if it were nice enough? But you never find one place with everything I feel. And then you would never know what was laying just over the hill or beyond the horizon. Not to mention this way lets you enjoy more, see more. It feeds my spirit in a way, makes life always exciting."

Ujuzi seemed to take that in for a moment, then smiled and nodded. It was a good feeling to be needed, or rather, appreciated. She hadn't been certain before now, but was reassured by now. There really was a good reason behind her urge to leave home.
"Yes, well, you know my father used to always say to me that the best way to live life to the fullest is to simply live it and see what ways it takes you."

Haiji gave a soft laugh under her breath. "Make it sound easy when you say it like that. Just live it and see where that takes you..." She repeated. "But it sounds right. Following our paws and our noses." She grinned again before a yawn came upon her.
She sighed heavily and tiredly once she'd finished her yawn. "But to travel and follow your paws you need to get enough rest when you do stop. I think I might sleep now. Thank you for the company." And with that she rose to her feet and wandered over to lay closer to where the other two dogs rested. Ujuzi was welcome to join the slumbering group of course, but she might want some more time alone.
