The sea was eerily calm. A small form bobbed gracefully in a patch of seaweed as she took careful notes of the surrounding vista. Miracle glanced at her otter familiar tangled up in the aquatic kelp before shaking her head. At least Argent seemed to be enjoying this rare trip to the surface. The seathi was bored. She'd been alone with Argent for too long and longed to find someone that she could call a friend. Solitude in this case was a dangerous thing. The little mare propelled herself through the placid waters until she was at the edge of the shore line. The risk of beaching herself was always there but Miracle was curious about those that seemed to live on land. Taking notes was one method she had to help paint a picture of what land-dwellers might. It wasn't research more just observations that she could use if she ever could find such a Soquili on the beach. The chain on her hair sticks tinkled ever so softly with her movement of tossing her mane back. She stared longingly at the sand beyond the waves; her keen eyes drinking in everything that she saw.

An incessant grumble broke through the mare's lips. She was at the ocean again? The scent alone confirmed this fact and Lavinia felt her lips curl in disgust. Just because she was a kelpi it did not mean that she held an affinity with the giant expanse of water. She could tolerate no more than one would tolerate an individual with inconsiderate manners. The water stung the open sores on her legs and she could never spend more than a few minutes in the salt-laced liquid before racing onto the shore. The mare was at a disadvantage as her eyes were, at least to her, deemed totally useless. It hurt to open them fully for even mere seconds. They wept blood continuously and she had to wonder why it was that she'd never attracted unwanted attention. Maybe it was because she'd taking to hiding in deep pools of fresh water that she stumbled across to throw off her scent.

Grumbling even more loudly Lavinia let out a silent hiss of pain as her hooves splashed water onto her legs. She was trying to build up her tolerance to pain via this unusual method and nothing was going to stop- ... what was this? A different scent was on the air and suddenly Lavinia knew she was not alone. "Who's there?"

Her ears swiveled and caught a sound like a small chime and she homed in on the direction it had come from before charging forward.

Miracle almost squealed in surprise as she observed the much larger Soquili venture into the swallows. She had swam a little nearer to the shore in order to be a silent witness. Her gaze quickly tracked back towards where Argent was still tethered. It seemed as if her familiar was actually sleeping. She rolled her eyes at the behavior before turning her attention back to this stranger. The wounds on the other Soquili's legs worried Miracle. Was this stranger injured? Kelp made for a nice bandage wrap. It was pliable enough. Miracle was almost in the process of turning around to swim back and locate some before the sound of a cold voice made her freeze. Her head turned slowly as she took in the visitor at the shore. The mare's position was that of a wolf scenting its prey and as soon as the words were spoken the other mare charged blindly in her direction.

Miracle dove under the waves and felt the waves thrown up from the other mare as she stopped her charge and began stomping around towards the deeper water. The little seathi swore she could feel her heart beating a rapid beat as she remained still. Only the smallest ocean currents jostled her lightly back and forth. Why was this mare so aggravated by her presence? Miracle risked raising her head above the water and squealed in fright. The mare had apparently been waiting for this moment. Teeth found purchase in her mane and she felt herself being dragged out of the shallows and onto the beach. She couldn't stay out of the water. Uselessly she tried finding traction on the sand to wiggle her way back to the beckoning waves. It just didn't work.

"What are you trying to do little fish?"

Miracle froze. The mare's face was inches from her own. Her own voice came out in nothing more than a whisper. "I'm not doing anything. Please ... I need to get back into the water."

Lavinia had almost given up on locating whatever it was that had created the chiming sound before she heard it again. She spun around in the shallow water before cracking her eyes open. There. A little blue head had just risen out of the water and Lavinia felt her muscles bunch as she darted forward. Her teeth caught on something rather sinewy and she waded backwards towards the shoreline. She had definitely caught something. Perhaps the source of the chiming. The weight on the other end provided no challenge and Lavinia sneered dismissively at the rather puny animal that she dragged onto the beach. The creature was trying to wriggle its way back to the water and a well placed hoof stopped any success that it was having. Her lips curled up in disgust. What exactly was this thing?

She lowered her head to try and get a better visual and at the same time she spoke almost menacingly towards the little aquatic thing, "What are you trying to do little fish?"

Lavinia was of course just a little bit interested in the thing's reply. It needed water to survive. Hmm. How long could she keep it out before it truly became distressed? Maybe she should conduct an experiment. First of all though she wanted another question answered. The creature had said that it wasn't doing anything ... but now Lavinia was convinced that this thing had been spying on her. "You aren't doing anything now ... but were you doing something before little fish?"

Miracle was frantically trying to think a way out of this mess. She couldn't get to the water on her own. Her first encounter with a land dweller was not at all going according to plan. Her bracelets caught on a rock and made a pinging noise that caused her to flinch. The figure above her had asked her another question. The seathi winced as a drop of reddish liquid landed on her before realizing what the liquid was. She squirmed in the wet sand. Would it be better to admit the truth to this much larger being? Her hooves flailed desperately as she thrashed her head back and forth. "Please. I can't stay out of the water. I need it to live like you need to breathe air."

Miracle floundered a bit more before falling still. Her sides heaved in and out as she looked up at the face peering down at her. "Please ... I'll tell you anything if you just put me back in water."

Lavinia smirked. So maybe this little fish had something to say after all. The mare considered the request made of her before scanning the horizon. She couldn't risk losing this little fish if she was going to talk so that meant that dragging her back to the ocean wasn't an option. A quick dunk though would give her enough time to locate a small tidal pool though. Lavinia once again got ready to transport the little fish. "You best not try anything fishy little fish. I'll drop you on the sand and leave if you do."

With that said Lavinia grasped the tail of the creature and neatly picked it up off the sand. She strode swiftly back into the waves and dunked her muzzle towards the waves in a thorough soaking before backing back out of the water. The warning she had given must have cowed the smaller creature as it made no attempt to free itself. Lavinia broke into a canter as she spotted a low outcropping of rocks in the distance. Waves were soaking it regularly and perhaps it would be the perfect location for an interrogation.

She reached the rocks just as the creature began to flail about again. It was making an occasional sound of pain and Lavinia dropped it unceremoniously in a small pool of water. The fish or whatever it was quickly ducked itself under the surface and continued to stay submerged. The pool was far enough in as to not afford an avenue of escape and shallow enough for Lavinia's easy retrieval. She lowered herself to her knees before opening her eyes to observe whatever it was she'd dragged out of the water. Interesting ... it had fins and hooves.

The sudden movement jarred Miracle. Pinpricks of fire lanced through her tail as she was picked up roughly. The dip in the ocean soothed her frayed nerves and allowed her to breathe normally for only a brief moment. Soon enough she felt the dryness of the air once again as she was jostled repeatedly. Her eyes had closed early on in the nightmare she now found herself in. A quick peek through slotted lids gave the little seathi an idea on where she was being taken to. The mare that held her tightly seemed to be heading towards a large outcropping of rocks. Miracle let out a small whimper of pain as the striding rhythm that the mare set out changed. Hooves struck stone and Miracle felt the hold on her tail loosening.

The sensation of falling caused Miracle to open her eyes just in time to see water rushing up towards her. She landed with a giant splash in a very shallow tidal pool. She quickly submerged herself in the pool in the hopes that she'd be out of reach but a quick circle around the diameter of the pool proved that theory unlikely. The water was too shallow to avoid the grasping reach of a predator and too narrow as well. Reluctantly Miracle gazed upward. The other mare was looking down at her with an unnerving gaze. The image was distorted but it almost seemed as if the other mare had blood streaming from her eyes. Checking her tail Miracle was surprised to see little pinpricks of red welling up from the appendage. It seemed as if this mare had quite a bite.

Lavinia frowned. Redness covered her vision as she continued to stare down into the little pool that she had dropped the little fish into. Was it going to stay down there forever and risk her wrath again? It wasn't a wise move on its part that was for sure. She raised her hoof and inserted it into the water in an effort to stir up some trouble. Lavinia smirked before withdrawing her leg and stared back down into the water. It looked as if the little fish had gotten the point. It was rising to the surface and while it seemed to contemplate its tail Lavinia smirked.

As soon as the head cleared the water Lavinia broke the silence. "So what are you little fish? Why were you spying on me? Do you even have a name? You'd best answer or my earlier threat remains."

Answers - that was what Lavinia craved at the moment. She'd not been near the ocean for so long of a period. Being away from the source of misery and pain seemed to be a good idea but since she was also alone in her travels and preferred things that way she did not pick up on that there could be other aquatic species of Soquili. Droplets of blood dribbled down her face and fell into the water. It stayed on the surface for a brief moment before being pulled apart by the liquid.

Miracle shivered as the water level rose in reaction to the mare's hoof entering it. There wasn't a lot of water to begin with and the displacement meant that more left the pool. She sensed the water's rise and fall and knew that the point had been made. She was stuck in here for the time being and at this other creature's mercy it seemed. Gradually, but slowly she rose to the surface and stuck her head out of the water. Her eyes opened and closed a few times in response to the change of atmosphere.

There was a moment of silence before the other mare's words filtered into her head. Miracle looked at the much larger Soquili with a little bit of fear before giving a small shiver. The chain attached to her hair sticks chimed softly as the wind caressed her mane. It was that noise that had spelled out this scenario. Miracle gave an infinitesimal shake of her head before speaking. "I didn't spy on you. I was observing. As for what I am ... I am a seathi. My species are only found in the waters of the oceans. As for whom am I, I am called Miracle."

Miracle plucked up the little courage she had running through her at the moment. "Who and what are you and why are you doing this?"

Lavinia stared down at the seathi. The word bounced around in her head before she glanced more sharply at the creature. She had been observing her? Lavinia frowned at Miracle before she stood to her full height. She gave a powerful snort before trying to relax the tenseness that shot through her. The thought that anyone had been watching her made Lavinia see red - in more ways that she was used to. She settled herself before peering down at Miracle. "Well then Miracle. Did you learn anything about me during your observation? Hmm."

Lavinia's voice went cold as she asked her next question, "who set you up to do this? I don't think that you'd throw your life away so carelessly. You might have noticed that I am not the most kindest of strangers to stumble across. I, Lavinia, don't take kindly to those who try to nose their way into my life without permission." Lavinia paused and gave the little seathi a smirk. "But perhaps you can be useful ... little fish. You say you were observing me. I could use someone to be my eyes for me. Maybe I'll even leave you alone afterwards. This is my only solution for the mess you find yourself in Miracle."
