User Image So much to do. So much so much, so very much to do. Harvest had herself into the harness and was pulling with all her might. Some Soqs might be content with grass and wild carrots, but she liked a variety of vegetables as well as grains. So she had to plant her own. This field would be for oats, the turnips were already planted. She liked the spot she had found, and saw no reason not to set down roots here. There were a few shady apple trees, and plenty of tractable land. But this field was being obstinate. She had a strap of the harness over her back, another across her chest, and a grip between her teeth like a bit. She pulled, straining against the plow. The last patch of earth went well, and the first half of this one, but suddenly she couldn't move. At all. She was pulling harder and harder at the plow, but it was not moving. Her withers were soaked in a sheen of sweat and her forelegs trembled. She had been working this spot for hours now, it was getting near to sunset, and she hadn't moved more then a half inch since noon. But it would come. It would. She just had to try harder, work harder. She knew she could do it.

The little mare had been wandering for hours now. How long had it been really? Technically it had been days since she had made it to this land, yet she was never able to find the right spot to settle down it seemed. Sure there were a lot of nice places, yet some just seemed to be too crowded or too desolate. There were certainly some places that had just seemed uninhabitable to be certain. Eventually, the little mare knew that she would find a place of her own. It was only a matter of time after all.

Looking up to the sky, the mare groaned. It looked like she had been traveling an awful lot longer than she had thought. Perhaps it was time to start looking for food, water, and shelter for the evening? The first night Akiko had been in these lands, she passed by the first suitable place that she found, and quickly found that to be a mistake. It had been hours more until she had found another place to rest after that.

Taking her gaze from the sky, Akiko spotted what appeared to be another soquili not far from her, this one, however, was much larger than she and appeared to be pulling something. Quickening her pace, Akiko stood before the mare in a matter of moments. As she drew near, Akiko could see that the mare appeared to be pulling a plow. Or rather, she was trying to pull a plow. Beneath the device, stood a rather large looking rock. At least large enough to have gotten in this mare's way.

"Hello there!" The pixie called, smiling as she came up to the mare. "I believe you might have a problem there." She nodded to the rock beneath the plow.

Harvest twitched, ever so slightly. Yes, clearly she was having difficulty. Did it really need to be pointed out? She plowed the rest, she could plow this part. She knew she could. She strained against the straps, feeling the handle bite into the back of her mouth. "If fow," he said around the bit. "Fi'e gew iw."

Akiko sighed to herself as the mare spoke to her. She hadn't the slightest clue what the mare had just said to her, but she figured standing here wasn't going to do any good at all. Quickly, the mare trotted over to stand beside the plow. Nodding in the direction of the rock, she spoke once more to the stranger. "It won't move because there's a rather large rock here. It doesn't look as if it will budge either. Perhaps you might have to cut your losses and just plow around it?" She suggested helpfully. It certainly wouldn't do for this mare to continue on like this for hours and to not get anywhere. After all, it was only a small patch of dirt that she would be losing.

Harvest tried to turn as the smaller Soq moved around behind her, but the stiff rods in her harness hampered her. She had been angry, at this other for interfering, and was trying to figure out how to turn and tell her so when the small Pixie spoke. She blinked, taking in the words. A rock? When the Pixie finished speaking, Harvest carefully stepped back, trying hard not to accidentally kick or trample the smaller girl. She got the handle out of her mouth and worked her jaw. "Step back, if you would please, I need to unhook myself from the plow in order to see this stone." She had no intention of plowing around it, but she did feel better knowing that there was a reason other then her own laziness or ineptitude that she had made so little progress since lunch.

The pixie gave the mare an odd look as she stepped out of the harness. While she was much closer to her, Akiko could see that the mare was quite large in comparison to the pixie. She guessed that the mare could easily crush her with one hoof is she wished to. Although she doubted that she meant her any harm, Akiko quickly stepped back out of the mare's reach anyway. At least she had been given a reason too and wouldn't pass off for being rude or anything. Once the strange mare was out of the harness and examining the stone, the pixie came to stand beside her, leaving a bit of room between herself and the mare. It wasn't that she was afraid of her or anything, it was just that her sheer size was a little daunting to the much smaller mini. Even if she didn't remember a whole lot of her past, Akiko was sure she hadn't met very many creatures as large as this mare was.

The mare studied the rock, and pondered for a short moment then nodded. "I see what you mean. But I will not abandon this area." She turned and poked around the trees until she found a dead branch. She picked it up and trotted back to the rock, ducking under the stiff part of the harness. She shoved one end into the dirt at the base of the stone. "Have you ever used a lever?"

Akiko eyed the mare and the branch wearily. What did she intend to do with a branch that she hadn't been able to accomplish on her own? Confused, the pixie shook her head no. She had not ever used a lever, nor did she know what you would do with one. She also wasn't entirely sure how a branch could be a lever. Wasn't it just a branch? Studying both the rock and the branch, Akiko was able to get a basic idea for what the strange mare might have in mind, but she was still unsure if the idea would even work. The rock looked quite large and she didn't believe that it would easily budge.

She sighed a bit and worked the branch into the soil, pushing it until it was under the large stone. She estimate about how far it needed to go. The branch was sturdy enough, and if the other would not help, well, then she'd just do it herself. She lowered herself with her front half over the lever until it began to push up, shoving on it until the rock began to wiggle.

From a small, yet safe distance away, Akiko watched the mare curiously. Did she think that by putting the large branch under the rock she could perhaps lift the rock up and out of the soil that it was embedded into? Perhaps, it was a sound theory at least. The mare supposed success would depend on how large the rock was, how deep it went, and just how much strength this mare had. Curious, Akiko took a few cautious steps forward to get a better look at what the mare was doing. At first, she couldn't see much of anything happening at all, but then, there was a little wiggle to the rock. Maybe this would indeed work after all?

She had all but forgotten that she wasn't alone, working as hard as she was on the stone. She stood off the stone, backed up, and pushed the lever further in. She stepped forward and rested on the lever again, bearing down on it with her weight. The stone moved more. She nodded. "Will have to dig out around the sides," she murmured. "Build a channel for it to be rolled."

Akiko angled her body so that she could better see the rock and what the mare was talking about. From this view, Akiko could start to form an imagine in her mind of what the mare might be talking about. However, she was still having some difficulty understanding. Her fist thought was, dig around it. There was plenty of land around here, the mare certainly didn't need to go to all of this trouble for one tiny patch of grass. Certainly it couldn't be worth this much work could it? Shaking her head in confusion, the little mare took a step or two forward.

"Excuse me, but I must ask. Why don't you simply just skip over it? You have so much land here that losing this tiny piece can't be all that much trouble?" She asked cautiously. Afraid that the mare might take some sort of offense to her words.

Harvest blinked, reminded suddenly that she had not, in fact, been alone this whole time. She stretched a back leg ever so subtly as she recalled the small pink Pixie, and her help with the boulder. A Debt, a help, and a potential friend, not a nuisance then. "When I work the fields, I have a definite rhythm that aids the work," she said. "Even lines, back and forth and back again. It not only makes the task easier, but also enjoyable. Further more, I would not loose just this small patch, but rather all the space from alongside the boulder to my other field, as my equipment is not built for agile turns. These things originally were made by two-leggers, and perhaps they better know how to control it. However, for me, the straight lines are the best, if not only option. And the fields to the south are laying fallow for the moment, so I could not plant there, this season."

The little mare considered the larger mare's words. She supposed that that made sense. If it wasn't so easy to maneuver than she would certainly lose much more land, Akiko hadn't originally thought of the situation in that manner. Well, if she was determined to get this rock loose, than the least that Akiko could do would be to help her. After all, standing around watching the mare wasn't exactly doing either of them any good now was it? Perhaps if she helped, the mare could tell her where she was or where she was or should be going? She supposed that it was worth a shot.

"Is there anyway that I can help?" She asked rather cheerfully. "Oh and I'm Akiko by the way. I don't believe that I told you yet." She continued on smiling.

She smiled warmly, both at the offer, and at the introduction. "I am Harvest, and thank you," she said. "I have not plowed to that side, yet," she said nodding her head, then flipping her hair back to get it out of her eyes. "We can carve the channel there to the water a ways off. It could help with irrigation in the future, even if the rock is taken away by the current. I can build a small dam by the field to keep it dry when I do not need the soil saturated." she tilted her head, considering that. That could actually be quite helpful if down the line she made the ditch deep enough to make her fields down stream. This could work very well. Very well, indeed.
