User ImageOne might say it was very cliché for a 'gothic' Laegil to frequent a graveyard but it was one of the cliché that Vera enjoyed embracing. She found graveyard fascinating. Often she would wander the few graveyards she knew looking over the graves and wondering what their lives had been like. She found the graves beautiful, some of them had such detail to them and words that could make a strong stallion cry.

So on this warm spring evening the gothic Laegil made her way to a new graveyard she had been told about. As she drew near the stone and metal gate she was in awe. It was the biggest grave yard she had ever seen. Normally she just visited the small graves along old travel trails where unlucky Mearas had perished during journeys. She moved with a quiet confidence as she passed over the threshold. Her tri colored tail swaying as she walked along the graves. At her left arm she had a small basket with some items to entertain herself for the night. And it looked like it would be a beautiful night to sit with the dead.

Now all she needed to do was find the the grave that called to her to sit with them tonight.

Del scanned the grounds carefully, taking his time as he considered where to start for the night. He enjoyed to quiet and solace he found working as a grave keeper. Still personally he preferred his small graveyard to this one, but he was here as a favor to a friend. He had tripped into an open grave a few nights back and broken his leg, leaving Del to take over for him while he recovered and found a more permanent substitute.

As he glanced around he noticed a very lovely young lady just strolling in for a late night visit. Ever the gentleman he made his way to her side to offer to help her find the grave she was looking for. After all, it was easy to get lost or hurt in the dark, and he could never forgive himself if something were to happen while he was in charge.

Not wanting to frighten her he called out warmly as he approached. "Evening ma'm."

Vera was never one to startle at every little sound. After all nights were always full of things going about their own lives, this brought forth the music of the night that was so very beautiful if one just took time to listen to it. So when the sounds of hoof falls reached her ears she turned his silver gaze towards the sound only to be met by a strong male voice and the even more surpassingly handsome form that possessed the voice. To say that Vera was not surprised would be a line. But she turned calmly to face the male fully.

"Good evening sir. I did not see a sign on the gate of the hours so I hope that it would be alright if I spent a bit of the night here." She said figuring that maybe he was the grounds keeper of this large graveyard. She found herself a bit fascinated by what she thought had been grave markers were in fact patterns along his legs. Just based on that he had to be the coolest grave keeper she had ever met.

"That's fine. We keep no strict hours here. Are you visiting a loved one?" He smiled, the gesture warm with a hint of shyness to it. She was lovely, and he found her tri-colored mane and tail fascinating. He shifted his weight a bit as he waited for her answer.

Vera smiled at him and reached up to push back her mane with a red hand, "No I do not have any loved ones here. I just enjoy visiting graveyards and sitting with those who have passed on. I think it is sad that most people choose to ignore them and not come and visit them. We can learn so much from them." She realized that she had been rambling a bit and smiled stealing a glance to her basket to cover the bit of blush that kissed her cheeks. She could almost laugh at herself because she was acting like her sister. She took a soft slow voice, "If you are not too busy you are more than welcome to sit with me and whomever I share this beautiful night with."

Del smiled warmly at her as she spoke. "I think that's very sweet. The dead are very lonely. I think if you don't mind, I'd really like to join you." He offered her his arm and motioned toward the sky. "After all. It really is such a nice night for a picnic."

Vera could not help smile at his warm smile and then his offered arm. She was in fact a bit impressed that he would offer her his arm to her. She did give a nod and moved over to take his arm. "Thank you for thinking my actions are sweet and being willing to join me. It would be nice to have some living company as well." She looked up at the sky when he did and mentioned it, "Yes it is a wonderful night. Do you happen to have a grave in mind we should dine with?"

"Perhaps one of the older graves? No one takes time to visit them anymore." He placed his free hand on her hand as he carefully lead her deeper into the cemetery. "There's no reason to thank me really. It's you who is sweet. And I should be thanking you for inviting me to join you."

Vera gave a nod, "Oh I would like that very much. I am sure you know right where the oldest graves are here. I would love to eat with them." She said and her red cheeks darkened slightly as he placed a hand on hers. "Well I am sure I would spend most the night wandering without you." She smiled gently then sees a beautiful grave coming up. She let go of his arm to hurry over towards it and kneel down to read it. "Oh wow this one is really old." she turned over her shoulder to smile at him.

He laughed a bit as she hurried to the grave. "I wasn't need to lead you after all. That is old. One of the oldest here. Perhaps this is the perfect place for our picnic." He held out his hand to help her to the ground. "You really are a special woman Miss...." He paused before suddenly frowning. "How rude of me. I don't think we ever introduced ourselves. Such an uncouth thing for me to have done. I'm Del Phalar ma'm. Such a pleasure to meet you."

Vera shook her head her tricolor mane cascading over her shoulder as she looked up at him, "Oh no you did lead me over this way. I just happened to jump the gun before you happen to turn me the right way." She smiled and turned back to the grave to brush her hand softly cover the cold stone.

When she heard him move closer she turned back to see his hand outstretched for her. She took it gently and allowed him to help her up. She laughed softly, "Well I can't let you take all the blame mister Del Phalar. For I never thought to tell you my name either." she let go of his hand and moved to open her basket to pull out the blanket. "My name is Vera. And I must say the pleasure is all mine. I have never met a stallion such as yourself." she spread out the small blanket next to the grave making sure not to have it on anyone else who was burried near by and then sat down looking up at him again. "I think tonight shall be a wonderful night with the best company I have had in a very long wail."

He joined her once the blanket was spread and things were set. He watched her as she spoke and moved enchanted by her. "Its a similar feeling then. You are truly unique Miss Vera. So strange but in a wonderful way. Do you do this often?"

Vera smiled and shook her head waving off Del's comment. "I am not that unique Mr. Del Phalar. But thank you for the compliments. Yes I do this often. As often as I can actually. During the winter it is beautiful at the older grave sites, like the travelers' graves. Even though it is often colder than I would like it to be sitting outside. I wish I had tried when I was younger to get a job as a grounds keeper at a place like this. Though I guess since my sister disapproved so much I let her guide me from that route." She turned to look at him as she offered him a glass of a subtle wine, "Do you think it would be too late to start now?"

"Its never to late to start doing something you love. If you'd like I could see if it would be alright for me to train you. You see, I'm not normally the gravekeeper here. I have my own small graveyard I look after. A dear friend of mine looks after this one and recently broke his leg. He's looking for a more permanent person to replace him while he heals."

"That is very true Mr. Del Phalar. It is never too late to do something your love." Her yes went wide a bit, "You would really help teach me? I would be very glad to help you both out by learning and taking over the ground keeping here wail his leg mends. And maybe once he is healed and does not need me any more I can find a graveyard to tend too. I do try to clean up the traveler graves when I visit them. But they are hard to find anyway." She smiled and took his hand, "I will do my best to learn quickly for you so you don't need to keep working double shifts. Of course if it is okay for your friend. "
