Mng was very excited for the journey that she was to have with her new acquaintance, Vigo. She'd already grown rather fond of his company even though they hardly knew each other. It wasn't hard for Mng to grow attached to another though, it was mostly in her nature to be trusting and carefree and she had a certain energy that was appealing to others.

She wasn't sure where they would end up, and even though they'd not run into anything quite so interesting yet, she did not find herself bored or deterred from the thought that adventures were things of fights and exploring new places and such. The land was just beginning to cool, which meant it was the end of another day. Mng quite liked the stars out in the rogue lands, somehow they seemed different than those of the Kusini sky. She enjoyed waiting for them to come out each night, to see which ones she recognized.

"In my lands," she said suddenly, glancing to Vigo. "We believe our ancestors have become the stars and are watching over us. It is an interesting idea..." She paused, trying to gather her thoughts before grinning. "Though it would seem then that many ancestors rest in the sky, yes?" She knew that other lions, not of their pride, must have also had their ancestors watching them from above... but sometimes lions guffawed at such 'foolishness'. She wondered a little what Vigo would think of the matter.

He was genuinely surprised to realize what a pleasant traveling companion Kari was. He had traveled alone so often, and met so many others he'd never savor enduring for any length of time, it hadn't really occurred to him that it was possible to spend this much time in one individual's presence and still enjoy it. They got along well, sharing both comfortable silences and animated conversations. It never seemed to get dull, at least not so far. It both puzzled and pleased him.

His eyes were scanning for a good place to settle for the night when she spoke up. He cast her a sideways look, his expression unreadable. Now under normal circumstances, he'd have agreed mellowly while thinking to himself what a crock such an idea was. But whether he was aware or not, something was changing within him as he spent more time with her. Rather than inwardly scoff, he paused to give it some thought. He certainly couldn't say where the stars came from, or if there were more or less one night than the last. He cast a speculative look upwards, even though the sky wsn't dark enough for stars just yet.

"I had never considered the idea before," he answered honestly and slowly, letting the gears turn in his head. That was another thing... while he was with her, his mind wasn't always dwelling on how to get her interested in him in a physical manner. Not that he didn't entertain the idea of dabbling in more intimate situations with her, but most of the time, he found himself simply accepting her as who she was. It was a novel thing for the notoriously flirty male. "But yes, I suppose that would mean a great many ancestors were up there." He paused to consider them having watched his own antics, but shook off the vision. No, that would be just too weird, and entirely too uncomfortable. Old dead lions observing his conquests? No thank you. "I've always seen them as lights to guide my way, dancing across the sky to their own rhythm so that I never quite go the same direction each moon." He cast her a sheepish look, feeling foolish for his own summation.

]It had been a long time since Kari had been comfortable enough in another's presence to share her thoughts and ideas like this. More often she just spoke of minimal things that would have to be agreed upon; the state of the weather, the temperature of the day or even the migration patterns of the herds usually found in the Kusini lands. Vigo made her happy, though that was not a hard accomplishment. He also made her feel... energetic. He made her want to share her ideas and stories of her life, wanted to see how he reacted and wanted to gain some sort of recognition from him. But at the same time she also felt sure that no matter his reaction to her it would be positive. She suspected it was thinking like this that most often got her hurt... what if one day he did happen to turn around and tell her he no longer wished to travel with her?

She was determined, at some point, to make some female friends. She was sure they discussed things like this all of the time, and they helped each other with inner problems like that. It sounded lovely, really! As for the present? She would just have to hope each day she woke up with Vigo beside her. She giggled at the thought, her mind moving somewhere less appropriate for the briefest of seconds.

Her tail gave a little flick and she nodded when he began to speak. Not many lions had given such an idea a thought, especially if they had not been raised in the manner. It was strange how easily she accepted that answer considering when she was younger she might have been shocked to hear such, how could anyone believe something different from the Kusini'mwezi pride? She smiled softly. She looked up again when he spoke of there being many ancestors, even though still they could not see the stars. "When the stars fall we are reborn into new lives, that is why the sky is not flooded with those pretty little lights." She'd stopped watching to stare up, thinking of her grandmother. She thought of what would happen when her father would grow old... of her siblings. She shuddered and looked over to Vigo. The sudden sadness and yearning for her family that was beginning to settle in instantly disappeared at his words.

She started to giggle, the smile back on her maw. "That sounds a lot more light-hearted than out beliefs. In a good way... I mean, I think that's maybe why we see them as our ancestors in our pride. For guidance... for comfort." She was moving toward him, and when she got close enough she gave him a playful bump of her head against his shoulder. "...May we stop soon? To watch the stars?" Her eyes had grown large and pleading, even though she would not be entirely too upset with him if he decided they were going to travel wall into the night.

His heart gave a little thrill at her simple physical contact. It was so odd, so different from the other times he'd spent around girls. He'd actually begun to drop his smooth, debonair facade in favor of presenting her with a more honest and genuine representation of himself. The whole situation was weird and exciting and gave him chills on a regular basis. He tried to keep this awe and wonderment from her most of the time, fearing she'd be put off by it, or that it would somehow ruin the camaraderie they'd developed. Instead, he enjoyed it privately, deep within himself, marveling at her uniqueness.

"Of course," he replied, smiling indulgently down at her. He found it nigh on impossible to tell her no for anything at all, in fact. "I could definitely go for a bit of star-gazing." He gazed into her eyes as he said it, trying to still the surge of affection and other things he was attempting to avoid with her. Unspoken were the thoughts of the stars in her eyes being so much more enthralling than the ones that were slowly appearing above them. But this time... this time he had to do this right. Not that he was at all certain what the right way was, but he was certain it was entirely different than what he'd been doing all his adult life.

He turned away and cleared his throat. To distract himself, he brought up another thread of conversation. "So, what family do you have in the Pridelands?" It was a valid question, since they were angling that direction. He'd been careful to watch the stars to keep their path straight, marking the ground when they stopped so that they wouldn't go in circles. "Do you know if you have many relatives there?"

She grinned and seemed to do a little jig, excited. They walked for a little while longer before Mng declared, "Here! Right here seems like a wonderful spot, don't you think?" She laughed and instantly sat herself down and rolled onto her back, paws resting on her chest before he could say that it wasn't a good spot to watch stars. It seemed she would not be taking no for an answer, this time at least. Her tail gave a few flicks and she purred with contentment.

As he asked about her family in the pridelands she started to laugh again, paw moving to tap at her maw as she thought about it. "Well. Let's see... this is all from my father's side of the family... my uncle Denahi had a litter or two there. My aunt is mated to a direct descendent of Mufasa and Sarabi, isn't that cool?" She figured anyone who knew about the pridelands must have knew about the royalty there too, right? But she wasn't really sure who was the king anymore. "He's not that nice really. Big grump... kind of funny though. I think he's been missing my aunt... she's been gone. A lot of the members have been.." She said this softly, slightly saddened by the words. "Uhm. Besides that I guess a lot of my family relations branch into that royal line. Way too many members to name, I'd say." She gave him a sheepish smile. "My family is kind of... huge... even my immediate family!" She gave a little shrug and rested her paws back on her chest.

"What about you? Any family in the pridelands?" She was curious about his family regardless if they were part of that specific pride or not. She didn't really know any lions with families quite as large as her own... but she thought it was a special case or something.

He sprawled next to her, though he didn't roll on his back just yet. Instead of gazing upwards, he smiled at her expression. "Oh yes, very wonderful." He was enthralled with just watching her face until she laughed and answered him. Snapped out of his reverie, he relaxed onto his side, watching her more attentively and less adoringly. He listened with growing amazement as she rattled off more and more people, and ended by declaring there were too many to name! He stared at her in wonder that had nothing (or little, anyway) to do with how lovely she looked in the growing starlight.

"Me? Family?" For a few moments he was too stunned by the realization just how big her family apparently was. When she'd said she had family in many prides, he had imagined one or two here and there, not whole great sections of relations. "Ah, no. I have no family." It was said matter-of-factly, though he was wondering if this was a good thing or a bad thing, in light of her situation. What would it be like, to know you had someone you were related to nearly everywhere you went? He wasn't entirely sure this was a positive thing, but it didn't seem to bother her, so he laid his head down to gaze up at the stars, still mulling.

"To my knowledge, I have no siblings running about, no aunts or uncles. My parents might be somewhere, but I wouldn't know where, or if they are even still alive." He huffed a faint breath. "They could be up there in the sky, for all I know," he added, remembering the original path of the topic. "They headed off without me one day when I was just old enough to catch my own small game." He hadn't thought about it in years, and it was no more comfortable to think about now than it had been then. He opted to change the subject, if possible, turning it back to being about her. "Your family won't mind me showing up with you, will they?" Though he supposed he could send her in on her own to visit, he found he disliked the idea of letting her out of his sight. How could he ensure her safety if he couldn't actually watch over her?

Mng frowned just a little when he admitted he did not have any family, even though he himself didn't sound very sad about it. She thought that family was a wonderful thing, even though they could also be troublesome and chaotic at times. She knew that different lions would have different take on these sorts of things though... she wondered if Vigo's views on family were similar to her own, or if perhaps he was completely content with his situation. She had the sudden thought that perhaps he was content with it; that was how he grew up, that was what he knew. Right?

But the more he talked the more she couldn't help but feel for his situation. His parents seemed more the traditional type, or something. She wasn't entirely sure, the concept was foreign to her. She didn't know too much about her extended family, but her immediate family at least all lived together. Some moved off to new lands, but usually by then they were adults and it was their decision and it was both a sad and exciting event. Just like she'd left, though she had all intentions of returning to the lands. "All families are different." She said softly, as if somehow this made his story fine. Besides, he didn't seem to want to talk about his family, because he turned the conversation back to hers.

She rolled to her side to watch him, smiling a little. She looked at him, really looked at him. The odd and some-what silly thought of suddenly wanting him to become part of her family entered her mind, but she wasn't sure if it was the kind of thought a lion mentioned out loud. "Why would they mind?" She asked slowly, again her naivety shinning through. She seemed to really think about his question, tail flicking. "I don't think they'd mind. I mean, a lot of my family I haven't even met..." She admitted slowly. "But I figure most of them would probably be pretty friendly." She had heard stories about her grandfather and her uncle being quite over-protective though. "I think they'd like you. You're very easy to like." She laughed lightly at this, happy.

At her question, his face heated. Maybe he was wrong, and she didn't return his growing affection on quite the same level? Either that, or she was innocent enough to not understand that her relations might not want her wandering about with a rogue like him. He bit his tongue, deep in thought. Should he just cool his jets? Perhaps for now, that was best. Yes, he'd just play the doting guard, and let things develop if they did. For once, he didn't care to rush things, not even realizing what an astonishing change this was. Instead, he was merely focused on what was best for Mng'kari.

So when he answered her compliment, it was with a light-heartedness that masked his growing longing to be more open about his feelings. "Why thank you, my lady!" he grinned and gave her a deep but mischievous bow. "I shall attempt to charm them with my wily ways." He ducked his head and shifted his eyes back and forth, as if charming them was something sneaky he wasn't supposed to do.

She laughed at his antics, tail flicking contently. She didn't think he'd need to try too hard to actually charm them, he'd charmed her fast enough. "I'm sure they'll be purring in minutes of meeting you." She replied, grinning still.

She suddenly rolled to her paws, stretching a bit before moving and bumping her head into his side, half playful and half just fond and gentle. "Want to walk a while more?" Maybe they would even hunt soon, or perhaps just find something amazing to look upon. The rogue lands hadn't proven to be so different from her homelands, but that didn't mean that there weren't amazing corners of the savannah.

He beamed at her like the big round moon, all brightness and mellow joy. "Sure!" he replied, jumping to his paws and reaching to tug her up after him. "The night is beautiful, the sky is bright, and the company lovely." He smiled warmly at her, hinting at the intimacy of the compliment but stealing any suggestiveness from it with his boyish manner. "I'm sure we can find something to do!" He caught on to her desire to move, to do something, to find delight in the world. In fact...., "Let's run!" he suddenly cried, giving her a playful n**, rearing up on his hind legs, then pivoting in a random direction and breaking into a lope. It wasn't an all-out run, allowing him to romp and pounce as if he were a cub again.

"Catch me if you can!" he called back to her, laughing and dodging about, then bounding in a circle around her before once more taking off, this time at a more challenging run. Though what he wanted most was to catch her, he'd suffice for letting her catch him... eventually! Echoes of laughter and running paws fell into the soft night as they capering off together into the darkness.
