Sometimes he just couldn't escape his room and at night was one of those times. It didn't make sense to just go meandering about like a ghost though for whatever reason his door was open just a crack as he sat at his desk quietly as he ignored the box that sat near his bed. As of yet he hadn't opened the box but he didn't really want them to incinerate it yet. Just one more day.
He'll look through everything tomorrow and yet another tomorrow still after that he was sure. Procrastination had a nasty way of snagging him up in its claws as of late.
Jude idly doodled something in a small black notebook that he had procured - it was all he could think to do for now as he sang in a soft quiet tone, "Never gonn'a fill you up. I wanna be the one who gives them all the world...And gives 'em all the feel of it, just a little taste of it~..."

Eva's sleeping schedule was still rather spotty these days. In fact, she had practically become nocturnal, staying up all night and snatching only a few brief hours of sleep when it was bright out. She found that the nightmares were easier to avoid when she was surrounded by people. In fact, she had taken to catching an hour of sleep during lunch time, sitting in the semi-crowded cafeteria and dozing off to the buzz of voices around her.
It was kind of...sad, really.
And at night? At night, she stayed up to read, train, or do whatever else it took to stay awake. The general emptiness and silence of her room would have made her feel more uneasy and lonely if not for the piles of plushies that Otto had purchased for her for Christmas. While they had once been scattered everywhere in her room--on the dresser, the desk, her floor, her bed, and so on--she had taken to piling all of them on her bed lately, nestling herself between them like a child.
And just like a child, when she decided to venture out into the hallways so that she could grab a late night snack, Eva chose to bring one of her biggest and fluffiest plushies--a plush Eevee--with her, clutching it to her chest. She rest her cheek on her Eevee's head as she made her way down the dark hallway, and--oh?
The light from one of the dorm rooms made her blink in surprise, and when she stepped closer, she could make out a faintly familiar voice singing. It took her a few moments to process who it was, but when she finally recognized the voice, she reached out to rap her fist softly on his door.
"Jude? What are you doing up at this hour?"

He paused when he heard someone knocking and then recognized Eva's voice he sat up a little setting the pen down as he gazed over, "Rebelling against all normalcy. How about you?" Jude was trying to sound happy and cheerful as he said all this - for the most part it worked. "You wanna come in or something?"
Normally he was bashful about letting female types into his room but it seemed life had rung the bashfulness right out of him for the time being. He was curious about why Eva was still up and even meandering through the hall like that.
Though he could probably say he would do the same if he hadn't just resigned himself to just sit in his room instead of creeping about. Eva? Totally wasn't creepy.

Still cuddling her eevee plush to her chest, Eva offered Jude a small smile, pushing the door open wide and slipping in at the invitation. "Can't sleep?" She asked, her voice tinged with both curiosity and sympathy.
She herself looked rather exhausted, dark shadows beneath her usually bright blue eyes. She gave Jude's room a brief scan before her gaze fell back on the man. Moving towards him, she plopped her plushie on his head. "Want to borrow Eevee? He's been keeping my nightmares away for me. Maybe he'll do the same for you."
That being said, Eva was curious why Jude was still up. Considering how late it was, most of the trainees were passed out soundly in their beds by this point.

He reached up to take the plush off of his head simply so he could take a look at it quietly not really answering her question other than to shrug at least at first before he finally spoke up, "It isn't the nightmares so much as memories, how about you? You look like you're being dragged through the gates of Hell."
It wasn't that she looked bad she just didn't look her usual happy self. She looked like she needed a rest at some sort of normal time. It sort of surprised him that he was concerned about Eva's welfare as far as sleep went.
Sometimes he told Susannah little stories to help get her to sleep when she had trouble but he didn't feel comfortable offering the same to Eva at least not right now.

"Memories?" Eva echoed, cocking her head to the side. Though she make no attempt to pry further, there was clearly a curious tone in her voice. After a moment of pause, she shook her head and smiled dryly.
Hell, huh? "I...I guess I kind of have, in a way," She confessed, lifting a hand to brush her fingers over the dark circles beneath her eyes, "We were sent on a mission, and...god. Every time I close my eyes..." Eva trailed off with a grimace, a little shudder wracking her body. God, how close had she been to dying? Probably only minutes--seconds?--away had the Hunters not shown up to save them.
Something told her that she wouldn't be able to look at insects the same way for a long time.

Jude nodded his head a bit, "Memories," he said in response but not really going into it unless he was otherwise prodded.
The young man gazed over at Eva and his expression softened a bit. She seemed to be wrestling really hard with what had happened. Then again everyone had issues now and again depending on the mission and how much it put them through their paces. He gestured over toward his bed, because he lacked any other seating, "Feel free to have a seat."
There was a pause as he went over what he wanted to say to Eva, "You know it is pretty safe around here, right? I mean I won't let you get hurt and I am sure there are others that would help you..."

There was a moment of silence, and then Eva smiled wryly, reaching out a hand and resting it lightly on Jude's arm. "Well...I won't prod if you don't want to share, but I'm always here to listen if you need to talk." God knows that the first thing she did when she got out of this mission was go and talk to whoever was willing to listen to her spill her guts. It had made her feel better...but unfortunately, talking it out didn't help with her sleeping problems.
She smiled slightly at the invitation, moving towards the bed and slowly sinking down on it. What caught her off guard, however, were Jude's sudden words. There was a long pause, and then the girl's smile grew slightly."I...I know. Well, I mean...I do feel safe here, with all you guys so close by--" It was comforting to have her friends just a few rooms down, "--But outside of this place..."
Eva trailed off with a shudder. "I can't stop thinking about that mission. There were those monsters that captured us. Reine and I came so close to..." Another shudder.

"Don't want to bore you with details of my dramas," he smiled a bit at Eva despite 'forcing' her to tell him her problems. He just turned his chair so he could face her and watch her quiuetly as she explained what was up with her. His fingertips touched each other and then pulled away only to tap together again, "Well...Outside there are no promises, no guarantees on anyone's safety. As much as we want to promise each other that we'd keep the other safe."
He tilted his head to the side as he stared more toward the floor now, "But the point is, you and Reine survived. You guys are alive and you should revel in that rather than fearing the next time."
Jude looked up at Eva and smiled a little, "If you worry about the 'what ifs' then you might get distracted and do yourself more harm than good."

Eva was happy to sit there and soak up the advice, especially since lately all she did was sit in and stew in her own thoughts and memories of the incident. She knew that that wasn't a good idea, and she knew that it really only made things worse...but she still couldn't stop herself from doing it. Thus, hearing someone else's thoughts on the matter was a nice change of pace.
She did not speak, simply listening to him talk until he was done. Even then, there was a small moment of silence before she finally let out a long, drawn-out sigh...but she was smiling, even if it was a small smile.
"You're right. I keep telling myself there's no point on dwelling on the past--and that's what the mission is now, a part of the past--but my brain likes to betray me." She made a face, and flopped back on the bed. "The fact we survived this time just means that we have to work hard so we survive next time too."
She turned her head to look up at the blond then, her smiling growing slightly. "Hey...can I braid your hair?"

"That's right," Jude said in response offering an encouraging smile of his own - at least as encouraging as his smiles could get. It seemed always more difficult for him to offer good advice to a lot of the others but with Eva it was different. He wanted to help her but not out of desire to coddle her but because she was simply dear to him somehow.
He blinked a little bit at the request and actually gave a small laugh, "I am surprised you even asked," he teased a little bit as he moved to his desk and got a brush out for her as well as a couple of simple black rubber hairties as well. He moved to settle on the floor in front of the bed after placing everything on the bed that Eva could need.
"...You know...You're one of the few people I let braid my hair or really do anything with it," He observed with a shift of his shoulders.

It was comforting, she found, to talk to Jude. He was patient, a good listener...and there was just something about him that allowed Eva to feel comfortable spilling all of her secrets and troubles. She wasn't sure what that magic of his was, but the girl was definitely grateful for his presence.
Her small smile split into a wider grin as he agreed to her request, and she pulled her legs up to sit cross-legged on the bed as he moved around to gather everything that she would need. Picking up the brush, she waited until he was settled comfortably in front of her before carefully running it through his hair.
"Haha, is that so? I'll definitely consider it an honor then!" She laughed lightly, pausing briefly to rest her cheek on the top of his head. Drawing back, she continued with the task of brushing his hair, doing so in slow, even movements. Whereas her mind had been filled with a turmoil of chaos not even an hour ago, she was now feeling surprisingly at peace. After a minute or two passed in silence, she uttered a quiet, "Thank you, Jude."
The next few minutes were spent in relative silence and peace. At some point, Eva decided that it would be more comfortable for her to braid while sitting on the floor, so she slid off of the bed and settled down behind the man. Although her movements had already been slow to begin with, gradually, the motions of her hands began slow even further as she leaned her head on the back of Jude's shoulder.
Eventually, her hands stopped moving altogether, sliding down and dropping back into her lap as she finally dozed off.

"It is a high and glorious honor given to but a few souls," he laughed a bit and for the most part he sat still. There was no complaint or tension when she suddenly slid closer and sat more behind him on the floor; in fact he scooted forward a bit for her to do so. His expression softened a little, "Welcome," he said simply as he sat there quietly. Jude almost wished he'd bothered to bring a book - maybe he could read out loud for her and...
Her motions slowed and suddenly there was pressure against his shoulder signifying that she must be using him as a pillow.
He blushed a little in spite of himself, "Eva? Hey?" What was he going to do? The young man started to shift a bit, maybe if she let him he could move her to rest on the bed and he could sleep on his chair or something. He didn't want to disturb her if she finally had gotten to sleep after having so much issue doing so.

There was no reply. At least, there was no intelligible reply--the girl mumbled something in response to Jude, but it was impossible to make out just what it was. After that, she just fell quiet, completely silent aside from the steady sound of her breathing.
Eva would probably be extremely apologetic whenever she woke up...but for now, she was out cold.

Jude just sighed softly. He wasn't going to just sit on the floor with her for the rest of the night. Carefully he began to get up his arms moving to catch her from falling over - or at least he tried to. He hoped that she was light as took her into his arms and tried to move her onto his bed so she could rest more comfortably. He put her on the bed gently shifting the covers so she could be warm and comfortable, even went to the trouble to make sure she could hug onto her Eevee plush that she had brought into the room with her. Once she seemed to be reclining peacefully - hopefully without waking her - he started to move back to his desk.
"Night, night Eva," he murmured softly as he started to settle down at his desk.
