Stirring from his slumber, the large white male lifted his head with a start. It was pounding, and he could hear the blood rushing through his veins. "Ugh." He groaned loudly, quickly lowering his head to lie down in the dirt once more. From his new position on the ground, he could detect a familiar scent, Mezlijin was somewhere nearby. Though not in the immediate vicinity. Clutching his front paws over his head, Mlnzi tried to decipher exactly what had caused his huge migraine, but he couldn't remember. Not a thing, it was like he'd been conked on the head or something. But, he knew this wasn't the case, if it was Mezlijin wouldn't be near.

Frowning his face in consternation and pain, the lion could tell it was nearly noon. Although he couldn't see a thing, the light still shone brightly on his eyes causing a burning sensation that quickly spread into his head. "Dammit all. What's going on with me today?" He whined, lowering one of his paws, to cover his sensitive eyes from further damage.

Rakuree had been passing by when he heard the sound of pained whining, and paused to detour his route to intersect the owner of the noise. It wasn't every day that he ran across someone that might be in trouble, but when he did, he always wanted to help. What was life worth if we didn't help each other!

His nose had been smelling something strange about the area for awhile now, but he had mostly ignored it, thinking it was probably due to all the crazy flowers and grasses and herbs and things he'd seen growing around. I mean seriously there must have been hundreds if not thousands of different types of things in only one square mile! At least from what he had seen anyway. So he figured it most likely that the weird smell was from all the plants. After all if flowers could smell good, there were surely weird plants that could emit these noxious scents.

As he padded closer to the white lion, the scent got stronger, but so did the ground cover of strange plants. He started treading a little bit more lightly, a little worried that some of these might be poisonous. Was that what had happened to the lion who he'd heard moaning in pain? Had he stepped on a thorned thing, or eaten something bad? The green leopard made himself a stern mental note not to eat a single plant in the area. No way, no sir, it just seemed like a bad idea.

Getting even closer, he let out a huff, sniffing and catching the scent of another big cat. He was probably close enough to be heard then, even if he didn't immediately see the source of the noise. "Hello? Anybody there? I heard someone groaning... are you hurt? Do you need help? You sound like a lion... I'm a leopard, but I'm friendly, I can help you if you need?" His voice was eager, but hey, he liked playing the hero!

He'd heard his visitor far before he'd opened his mouth. But being a gentle sould, he saw no harm in allowing the creature to find him. Rather than the other way around. He'd always been the way, able to see no wrong in anyone, even the darkest of souls. Because he just knew that they hadn't always been that way. Obviously some lions were always that way, but his way of thinking helped to give others a brighter outlook so why not let him think that way?

He could tell as the creature drew nearer that he was a cat, though being from a mostly male pride he had no real clue what others smelled like, much less how to tell them apart! The crunching of the grass got nearer, and then came the voice. Egads it was loud, and he quickly cringed at the voice. Not particularly to be rude, so much as to show his pain. Ha! It was just as he'd suspected! A leopard, well that was sort of what Mezlijin was ... perhaps that's why now that he thought of it - the scents seemed faintly alike.

Closing his blind eyes tightly, the male lifted his head so that his voice would carry better and spoke up. "I-I'm here, i'm not hurt though. Well I am - but not in a way you can help with!" He shouted back at the voice, fussing at himself for answer in such an odd way. "I am friendly as well - a lion. I don't believe I need help. But you are welcome to come closer if you so desire. I won't be of any danger, I assure you.

Rakuree titled his head, swiveling it immediately in the direction that the responding voice had come from, and then he saw him. A white and rainbow colored lion - what an interesting pelt!! He must be popular with the ladies! - laying on the ground, with his paws on his head. "Ah, I see you there now...

He'd claimed to be uninjured, while at the same time saying he was? The green leopard was immediately confused at the explanation. That just didn't make any sense at all! Okay, well, maybe it made a little sense... as he got closer, he could see that the lion didn't seem to be clawed or cut or maimed in any visible way, so maybe he was hurt inside? That seemed likely. "What's wrong? Are you hurt inside, is that it?"

The leopard stopped a short ways off and sat to consider the lion in front of him. If it was in fact an internal injury, he probably couldn't help...

The male leopard's voice became louder as he drew nearer and it took everything the male had to be respectful and not recoil at his words. After all it wasn't as though he were intentionally trying to agitate his migraine. Sighing heavily, and nibbling on his bottom lip he pulled his paws from atop his head and stared in the voice's direction.

"Yes, it's an internal injury." Another sigh wrecked his body as he waited for the male to say more, but he never did. In an attempt to break the deafening silence, he once again spoke up. "It was quite commendable of you to come out here, seeking to help another. I thank you for that. I"m only sorry I wasn't what you were expecting!" He let out a small laugh, letting on to the fact that he had been joking. "I'm Pumbaa'Mlinzi my friend, and if there is anything -" He paused, cringing in pain for a moment - "Anything I can do for you. My ears are open."

Rakuree's expression shifted from curiousity and worry to concern, a frown on his otherwise easily smiling face. He didn't like being told someone was hurt with something he couldn't help with! Although... maybe if it were an illness he could get him some... plants or something. Wasn't that what his mother had always told him? To eat plants when you felt ill? He guessed there were certain kinds that were right, but he didn't know what they were....

"I always want to help, if I can. I mean what's life worth living for if we don't help each other and enjoy it!" He smiled, but winced and lowered his voice when he noticed that the other male was cringing at the volume of it. Oops... he did have a tendancy to speak too loudly... he didn't even think about that...

"My name is Rakuree. It's nice to meet you Pumbaa...I'm loud... sorry... I'll try to keep it down. Does your head hurt? What happened?" he paused and blinked at the strange words that came out of the lion's mouth last.

"Help me? But you're the one who's hurt, I'm perfectly alright! I want to help you, Pumbaa...." he frowned gently. This guy was too nice... in such obvious pain but offering him help!

"That's - a very noble stand. You sound a lot like myself." Mlinzi's fading smile returned brighter than it had been before. "I have heard it's rare to find such caring souls in this world..." It was true, Mezlijin had warned him of those who would do him harm, and those who would do for themselves above others.

"Well, it is a pleasure to meet you Ra-ku-ree. And no worries, you aren't too loud. It's just this headache, it seems to be amplifying all the sounds around me! I'm sure you are nowhere near as loud as you sound!" He laughed, "But if you are - toning it down might help just a tad bit." To further prove his point he rose a paw to the air and placed two claws together. "As to what happened - i'm not so sure I can answer that. I woke up this way." Mlinzi shrugged it off matter of factly and moved on

"No need to worry over me, i'll be fine. It's nothing that can really be cured. I would know that is my job. Even the most complex herbs at my disposal would only dull the pain. But I thank you for your sentiment." Forcing himself to his feet, Mlinzi groaned as his bones creaked a bit. Nothing out of the ordinary just stiff due to his lack of movement. "What brings you out here Rakuree? Surely it isn't the wonderful scenery? And I don't believe either of the prides located here, welcome leopards.."

"Oh, is it? I didn't know it was such a rare thing to be kind...." The leopard looked genuinely confused at this information. "Is it really rare?" That just didn't seem possible to him! Surely most everyone cared about one another! That was just the right thing to do! He guessed maybe it wasn't the case, but he always preferred to be hopeful and look on the bright side of life.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Pumbaa." He smiled, then grinned with embarrassment. "Sorry for being a little too loud... I get excited and don't realize I'm doing it. I'll try and keep a lid on it... so your head hurts? " He tipped his head from side to side to look at the lion in curiosity. "That seems a strange thing to wake up with... maybe you slept badly? Sometimes my head hurts a little if I don't move at all in my sleep... or have a paw under my head..."

"Ohhhhh, you're a herbalist?!" his voice rose in excitement and he winced and hunched his shoulders in shame as he saw the lion cringe in pain from the volume of his voice. "Sorry.... but that's so cool... knowing all those things about plants and stuff... I don't know anything about 'em. You're sure there's nothing I could get you to make it hurt less...?? I mean you could tell me what a plant looks like and I could go find it and bring it to you, I wouldn't mind...."

He watched as the lion in front of him stood and stretched out his aches from sleeping. Looks like he had had a hard long night of rest if the way that his joints popped was any indication. Maybe he'd just slept badly... it happened. "Oh, I'm just traveling. And nope, I don't belong to any pride~"

"It's a sad thing isn't it?

That isn't to say there aren't nice people out there - you'll likely run into a ton of those. But to find someone, who will go out of their way, and possibly place themselves in danger, all for the sake of another? That is rare.
Mlinzi nodded again, thinking back to the many stories Mezlijin had told him of the outside world. Most of his stories involved kind lions, but none that would have the heart to rescue him if he were in any real danger.

All these questions were piling in on Mlinzi's closed brain, and it began to throb dully. So naturally he did the only thing he could do. He laughed - his motto was that laughter was the best medicine so perhaps it would do it's magic in this case. As he laughed, he held no bearing on whether it would bother or unnerve his new friend. He was just laughing.

At the mention of herbalism, he calmed his laughter, to a dull roar and commented through smaller giggles. "Well, I am an herbalist, but I am also an alchemist. I enjoy what I do, but it is a tough job." Mlinzi paused for a moment, thinking over where he had last found the medicinal herb Rakuree so anxiously wanted to find for him. From the feel of the ground, and the scent in the air, he was nowhere near them. "I'm positive. Besides if my other senses are correct - we're not anywhere near their habitat and I wouldn't dare force you to do my bidding. Besides, it is slowly subsiding. Another short pause.

"Perhaps just your company is enough to put the pain at bay." Mlinzi smiled an very awkward smile, he didn't want to chase this poor guy away by thinking he was weird, but he was rather enjoying the company. He'd become so used to Mezlijin being by his side that the idea of being alone was not a welcome one.

"I thought as much. You should be perfectly safe traveling between these two lands. While neither accept leopards into their ranks - neither are very violent either. So long as your intent to travel is as pure as it seems you are welcome to roam here.

"Oh yes, I've run into alot of nice lions and leopards and cheetahs. I especially like cheetahs... they're so much fun to race..." Rakuree rambled slightly as the lion spoke, but he was listening too! "Ah, yes, someone who will risk themselves for you is kind of rare, I guess...." He agreed.

The green leopard just tilted his head to the side in confusion, a smile growing on his face at the laughter. What was he laughing about? Must have been a sudden happy though, was the only thing Rakuree could figure. Oh well, he always enjoyed the sound of good laughter! And this lion didn't seem to have a bad nature. He'd have liked it if he let him in on what made him laugh like that, but didn't hold it against him that he didn't.

"Oh, Alchemy? That sounds amazing! I've never seen alchemy..." This time he made a point to keep his voice down. The lion's head was hurting, he came to help him, not make him hurt worse after all!. "But... you wouldn't be forcing me... and I like running, so if it's far, I wouldn't mind a bit, I could just run there and run back... I'm glad to hear you say you're feeling better though. A lion in his youth such as you, it's a shame to feel ill!"

The bright smile reappeared on the leopard's muzzle at the suggestion that his appearance and company had made the lion feel better. "That's a kind thing to say... maybe you just needed a bit of rousing, maybe it really was a sleep-headache." He nodded "That's good to know, I don't mean anyone any trouble at all, so I'm glad to hear that~ Are you sure I can't get come herbs for you Pumbaa?"

"Oh-ho no, I know a thing or two about burdening others. It's just not in my nature to lean on others. I'm sort of a stubborn lion when it comes to that. But your thoughts are so kind, it will bring you good karma someday!" Nodding again matter of factly, Pumbaa took the opportunity to stretch his legs. His throat letting loose a slight growl as he did so.

"You know, I think you may be right - about the sleep-headache. I mean I can't remember much but perhaps I had a rough sleep." Mlinzi paused to think it over, but all her came back with was a blank yet again. What had gone on the night before that he couldn't remember? Well hopefully Mezlijin knew.. he'd have to ask him when he returned home.

"I'm absolutely positive Rakuree. But if you would be so kind - it might be nice to have some company on my way back to my pride's borders. Would a certain leopard be interested by chance?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 29, 2012 8:30 pm

Rakuree pondered the comment about good karma... he didn't know what karma was, but figured he wouldn't bother the lion by asking. Instead he just smiled and nodded happily anyway.

"It happens to me sometimes, when I have a rough sleep I mean. So it could be that." he offered helpfully. Maybe you need to find a more comfortable position to sleep in. He laughed softly.

"Sure! I wouldn't mind going with you, I always like company!" he agreed readily enough, getting up to walk alongside the lion as he headed back to his pride. Rakuree probably wouldn't ever see this lion again, but he was happy to have met him, he was really nice!
