Few knew of the days when Ridley actually remembered to stuff the bottom of her backpack with cat toys and treats. Really, it would be hard to with how often she forgot or how well she hid them. ********* probably knew, but she was a little bit of a different story.
But today was one of those days when a small ziplock bag of Friskies Tender Treats at the bottom and a few strings tied to one of the zipper pulls of her backpack. And well a laser pointer. Her family had gotten her one to see if Priss would like it and well, the Maine Coon was unimpressed by it so the youngest Pendergast put it on her backpack just in case she came across some other cat that would like it.
So, right after school, the little orange haired girl skipped her way on her usual way home unsure if she wanted to take a few detours on a hunt for her favorite animal along the way. The park usually had a few she could play with and there were the ones in her neighborhood, but new ones to come across were always welcomed.
New cat friends. So, so tempting. The little girl didn't realize the sudden turn in the streets the idea lead her down with strings dangling behind her.

Laoise was queen of the prowl -- the low-sunk crouch of a hunter, a predator, chasing down her prey. The gold of her body should have been a flash at the corner of her soon-to-be-victim's vision, yet somehow it was not. If you moved slowly and carefully enough, nothing but a lean shape in the shadows, even the sharp-eyed wouldn't see you coming.
The string trailing Ridley was not, in this moment, a brightly colored flash of ribbon. No. In this moment it was the sweep of a monster-rat's tail, and Lee's eyes tracked it, followed it, all of her body tightening into a small bunch.
The girl would feel it when she pounced, catching the string. A tug on her backpack, almost forceful enough to drag her back a step. The weight of a cat behind.

Woah, woahwoah. Ridley's arms immediately shot out trying to keep her balance as she felt her body begin to move backwards. The orange haired girl tried not to fall and only managed it barely; arms out, knees bent awkwardly... maybe falling on her butt would have been more comfortable.
As much of a hot lead she thought she had on a feline, the strings of her backpack were telling her otherwise. Had they caught on something? She didn't think they were that long to get caught on like the sidewalk or a random wall or passing object. Or well, she was wrong about that too.
Ridley's knees couldn't really take much more of how she was squatting - even if it was only for a few seconds - and she slowly found herself sinking to the ground. This was at least giving her a chance to finally see what the problem was. Her eyes turned to the source, and then grew wide as did her smile.
"Hey kitty-kitty!" She squealed, hand instantly shooting out the feline's head.

All four of Laoise's paws were tangled in the string, claws sunk deep and teeth piercing the fabric. It meant that her reaction was slowed, her instinctive response drawn up short. Instead of bringing those sharp claws up to catch Ridley's hand, as well, they were stopped before they could reach flesh. Instead of long canines being bared in a hiss and a snarl, she gurgled around a mouthful of string.
Instead of dodging out of the way, she had to just put her ears back and submit to the brush of a hand over the top of her head.
Laoise's eyes narrowed and a low grumble rattled in her throat, something warning, even as she struggled to uncatch her claws.

The hostility from the golden furred cat did not go missed, Ridley simply chose to ignored it like she did with any angry cat she came across. There had been many before, and scratches and thin faded scars as proof, and Laoise wasn't going to be the last. The little girl moved her hand to scratch the tangled feline behind the ear, knowing it usually worked in calming cats down.
"You're so pretty," She cooed, rubbing her fingers gently at the base of those golden ears. This allowed her to really get a better look at who she cad caught. The color of her fur was obvious, as well as her being a short haired cat. She seemed to have feathers around her neck, which was an interesting thing to see for a cat. But then, she noticed it.. and wondered how she missed it.
The star.
"Oh!" Ridley beamed, scooting herself just a little bit closer, "you're a guardian cat! How neat! I don't tend to meet a lot of you guys very often, only on patrols and stuff! Do you know *********?" Her guardian cat had told her to be careful, but she could at least divulge a little bit of information to get a little bit herself. Right?

With a shudder, another growl, Lee managed to spit out the string and get at least her hind paws free. With that done, she wriggled and shifted to settle on her back -- pale tummy tempting and hind legs curled upward. From this angle, should Ridley reach for soft fur, she could kick out hind feet and rake fresh scratches down the sides of her arms. That tummy, though, was rather tempting... She watched Ridley through slitted eyes as the girl shifted closer, and flicked her front paws back and forth, trying to work them free. But trying to do it subtly. It would never do to admit she was trapped. "...you mean the stupid kitten who thought I was some kind of human shifted into cat shape?" Her tone was sharp, biting, not the friendly bubbly cat Ridley was probably used to from *********, other order animals. Laoise sniffed. "We've met."

Rubbing the cat's belly was indeed a tempting thought, though one that Ridley often hesitated with unless it was clearly okay to do so. Seeing as her own cat Priss didn't like it, was lesson enough to wait and make sure.
And there seemed to be a little more pressing matters at hand, that even Ridley could see them. Laoise's front paws were still stuck in the ribbons. And as amusing at it was to watch her struggle a little, it didn't look pleasant. "Here, let me help!" The little girl chirped, moving her fingers from the feline's head to start working on a few of the knots that had been created.
"********* not a stupid kitten," she told Laoise in a defensive tone, pausing in her work to give the cat a good stare down. "A lot of people were turned into cats and stuff, which I'm kind of jealous of, but of course it would be an easy mistake and all." Her ideals of ********* were always high, given how much she had done for the senshi of herbs.
With a scrunch of her nose, she went back to work. Of course the thought of leaving the cat tangled up came to mind, as she had bad mouthed precious *********... but she was a cat and that would be terrible. "I'm Ridley, by the way." She announced, her happy tone back.
