In the sweet rapture of Halloween left Bul to count his blessings. Despite the rocky start to the Academy, and the struggles of the future still to come, there was so much he loved about Halloween Town that made him grateful to be a monster. Proud even. Because that pride was what the hunters could never hope to take away. Narrowing down their survival and giving them the greater desire to live? Worst mistake they could ever make.
Though today he may find however, they made an even more ridiculous call.. as he stalked the halls, passing his favorite teacher's office.

She had no idea how long she had been out, or when she had arrived back in Nurse Cricket's office. Her head felt like someone had kicked her with a steel toed boot. The rest of her body didn't feel much better.
"I'm Sorry."
Bang.
Freezing at the sudden flashback, Mei clutched the sheets she had unconsciously tangled herself in, holding them close as if for comfort. She had known the outcome of the battle when it had started. She stood no chance against him, especially when she was this weak.
Weak..
Did she even improve in the last year? Or was she still just dead weight? She couldn't even defend herself in that battle. "Jack dammit..!" Tears stung at the corner of her eye, as she muffled a sob. Here she thought she was actually starting to make a difference, but when it came down to it, she couldn't do squat!
"I..I can't do this anymore."

Bul's senses stung in his sinuses, the heart of his FEAR that wasn't his.. heart. The door to Cricket's office drew near and the half beast had the strongest urge to peer in and see who had just apparated into the infirmary. Much to his surprise and horror, someone very VERY familiar and special to him was laying in one of the freshly dressed beds. Bul's heart lurched into his throat but his entry into the room was slow as molasses.
So much for those nervous mind battles.
"M..Mei?" Bul stuttered softly upon entering. The lights were dim, nearly out completely, and the boil watched his feet for Cricket's bugs. "Mei what happened-?" he asked. Obviously she was stirred.. he had to be careful with that. Still, he rested on his knees, at practically eye level with the cot. Not the best condition to find his ghoulfriend in.

Lifting her hand to her cheek, she felt the cut still on her cheek from the first shot fired in the battle. So her wounds hadn't healed yet? She must not have been out long, otherwise her fear healing would have kicked in long ago and most she would have was a few cracks. Well that was just great. On top of everything, she now needed to spend her time recovering from that failure of a battle.
"M..Mei?"
Her eye widened at the sounds of his voice--almost embarrassed that he had found her in such a sorry state.
"Mei what happened-?"
"I--" Gripping at the sheets again, she swallowed. Jack, she didn't want to start crying in front of him. Not like this. She could lie to his face and say she fell down a flight of stairs and then some. Its not like it hadn't happened in the past when she had not been careful where she was walking. But would he buy it? Not likely. Its not like she would be sitting here bawling her eye's out over something that either.
"I lost."

"..." Bul was forgivingly silent after she admitted her failure to him. He wasn't an idiot (or was he) so the pieces of the puzzle had fit together when he realized she meant in a fight.. and judging by her volume and the mood that radiated from her weak FEAR... it wasn't anyone from Amityville.
His spines hummed as they quivered against one another, the rattling not quite picking up yet as he leaned over her tummy and reached up for her face. Bul could see the injuries she'd sustained, quite different from the cracks her body generally presented. He really didn't know what to say to her, he was so mad but rationality had the better of him for the time being. "Who Mei?" he asked, and scooped an arm underneath her pillow to sort of give her some support. It had to be weird laying straight beneath him.. errrr.
"Where did it happen? Was it uhm.. off campus?" he asked with the slightest tilt of his head. His hand by her cheek now pulled strings of hair one by one away from her skin.

It wasn't like this was the first battle she had lost. She lost more than she won to be honest. But this battle..it stung. The fact that she had lost, and so fast, it just made her want to hide away from the world until everyone forgot.
Biting at her lower lip, she stared down at her hands that still clung to the sheets.
"Who Mei?"
She didn't answer him right away, she was still mauling over the right way tell him. What could she tell him? I found a corridor, and was dumb enough to explore it, and walk into a battle with a hunter? Yeah, that would go over well..
"Where did it happen? Was it uhm.. off campus?"
"It--" Finally locking her gaze onto his as his hand brushed away strands of her hair. "It was in the same place Red had taken us to before she.." She swallowed again. "The haunted mansion. I found a corridor--the one students had been talking about. I don't know how it happened, it just did! And because I didn't think things through, I kept going!"
If only she had used common sense! This whole damn incident could have been avoided!
"I met a hunter there. In one of the rooms. He was already waiting there, and.." Her voice trailed off as she shuttered from the memory.

Being calm when angry was not so out of character for Bul as one may have thought. He was fortunate to have a lot of patience for being the rough and wild boil he was. However, the longer Mei waited to tell him, the more worried he got. He was actually scared even especially after calming down from the trials so healthily.
As she told her story Bul tried to imagine it play out in his head. "Mei.." he cooed gently. He was not mad at her how the hell could he be? Was he mad at the hunter? Sure, but.. wasn't that what hunters did? Reason completely ceased to exist after their mission in SEEDs and the trials vision. "Oh the mansion-" he muttered nervously. That was the breeding grounds of trouble for Amityville despite the urge to use it for their advantage.
"No, you kept going because that's what that house does," he tried to assure her. He was too scared to bruise her already beaten body to hug her, but he did leave a gentle kiss at the corner of her brow. "Tell me about this hunter?" he requested. "I want to know. Because when I see him I'm going to give this right back to him.." Though he was feeling that stifled anger rise, he wasn't going to act irrational.. otherwise Mei might protest.

It was true that the mansion had this strange control over one..but she still felt like she could have walked away? Or could she? After all, countless students had already been in her situation--some, multiple times. The thought didn't bring her any comfort. She felt like a moth to the flame.
Bul being here with her relaxed her more than she would have believed anyone could. She felt safe with him here, happy even that she was still alive to be here with him.
The hunter..Gale Gentry as he introduced himself as..He was not like the other hunters she had seen before, that was for sure. She had never seen someone so conflicted. "He..we argued after." She laughed at the thought. "I don't know how to describe him. I don't know if even he could. I tried to convince him what he was doing was wrong, and he even questioned his actions. I thought I was getting through to him, but.." She gestured to herself in the cot. "I guess Gale Gentry chose to stick to the path he had chosen."
Pausing, she stared at Bul for a moment. "Your not planning on going after him, are you?" Not that she was upset that Gale might get a thrashing of his own, she was more concerned of what might happen to Bul. Bul was more than capable of taking care of himself, she knew this. He was a better fighter than she was, but still..what if there were more than one hunter there? If something happened to Bul, she wouldn't be able to cope.

"Argued?" Well there definitely wasn't any mistaking that. Hunters loved to justify what they did as something RIGHTEOUS. "You tried to convince him maybe that violence wasn't the way.." he summarized from her soft musings. Gale Gentry. So that was who he had to remember. Sounded stupid enough of a name.
Bul was silent for a long pause, his eyes shut. "No. I'm not going after him. But I will scout that Haunted House any time that I can," he finally sighed. "Nox has told us we can't deal with these hunters by ourselves. We KNOW this.. after fighting them before," he seemed to be making sense until- "But they should know better than to pick on Halloweeners when they are alone too. They neglect to remember we have numbers here at Amityville. And they need to know that they're not as safe as they elude themselves to be wandering the Haunted House alone. That's OUR haunted house now.."

Mei smiled weakly as he replied. "Tried." Not with much success, or at least none that she had witnessed. She should have realized that it would be harder than a few words to sway the hunter. But even still..what would happen if they ever met again? Would he be fully committed to his job? Or would he still be stuck in between?
The thought of Bul scouting that mansion at any given chance didn't make her feel any better. It was just as bad as going after the hunter, Gale. Worse maybe. But its not like she could stop him either. Especially not in this condition.
Nox..she had heard of him before, but she didn't recall ever really having met the man.
It was true--whatever forces the hunters had, they had just as many, if not more. Most of them students, they were still equipped to handle battles, and were even improving so at a fast rate. Well..most were.. "Your right." If the hunters couldn't be reasoned with, then what other choices had they? If Gale made a choice to stand with his kind, then she would do the same.

With a saddened smile, Bul pressed his lips again to her forehead, then down along her nose, and then to her lips, but he actually pulled back with a very light chuckle. "Maybe not for Cricket's office right?" he whispered. Mold. Mold. All the mold. He wasn't afraid of it but the powers that be would be stupid not to mold-ify them.
Either way, the boil was still frustrated with the condition his ghoulfriend was in. If they had any courtesy as HUMANS they wouldn't have near destroyed her.
"Do you need anything though?" he asked, dropping the subject of vengeance for now. "I don't know if Cricket's around but I am free from any class or homework right now.."

Closing her eye, Mei smiled as he kissed her and pulled back when he reached her lips. All she could do was laugh lightly in return, and shake her head. "Probably not."
The room was fairly quiet--a change from the last time she had been in here after the battle when hunters had invaded their world again, disguised as their own. Nurse Cricket's office had been swarmed with students barely clinging to life, and some who had re-spawned there. But right now, it was peaceful.
Looking back to Bul, she shook her head lightly. The only thing she needed was rest, and for her FEAR to regenerate so she could focus on healing. Not an easy task at the moment, but she had time. At least this got her out of classes for a day or so. "I don't think so. You don't have to stay here if either. Your more than welcome too, but I'll probably just dose off or something. If my healing kicks in, I might even be well enough to move back to my dorm tonight, or early next morning if I'm lucky."

Time and time again Bul felt wretchedly guilty for whenever Mei suffered like this and he didn't stop it from happening. True, there really was NO WAY he could've stopped her unless he knew she was going ahead of time so he tried not to beat himself up over it.
"Well.. I'll stay as long as I need to," Bul chimed and nuzzled her with the end of his nose, pushing himself back up to go and grab a chair to sit beside her. "I wish I'd had taken more classes on healing, yanno?" he sighed. "Might've been able to help you out. Maybe you could help me learn sometime right?" he smiled.

When he announced that he would stay longer, she responded with a nod and smile as he nuzzled her. "Alright..thank you, Bul." Truth be told, she was glad for the company. Waiting until he pulled a chair over, she reached for his hand, giving it a light squeeze. "Its fine. Its not even that painful right now, and my healing should kick in later."
"Heh heh. I'm no good at teaching, but I could try and teach you what I know for healing. In return, maybe I'll have you teach me better fighting moves or something." Jack knows, she needed it. It was a shame that Red wasn't around anymore either, what with the hunter threat growing more troublesome by the day. Just something they would need to make due with on their own.

"We can do an exchange of wisdom~" he smiled. For some reason all Bul could think of was when and Tahki worked on learning their FEAR. If Bul and Mei did the same, she would surely put him in his place... that's just how it seemed to work. Tahki had practically obliterated him on total accident.
"For now though, we'll just fantasize about it. I'm not into hardcore just yet," he grinned.
