If they transform into a specific thing, that's fine, but only if their transformation are limited to three specific things. In other news, we understand that your characters' lives suck, but please, please, PLEASE don't rain on everyone else's parade. Just because Bob has a splinter doesn't mean that Mary has the right to go on a tirade about her father beating her and being abandoned in a forest with nothing but a scar on her forehead and a piece of paper saying 'We never wanted her'.
